Chins Szechwan - Encinitas

This is an overdue review. My sister and I got off from work one Friday evening. On the way home, we thought why not have date night since it’s a Friday. We were craving Asian food, so I yelped and this place came up. My sister only heard good things about this place, so she recommended this place. The location of this location is somewhat hidden and on a somewhat of a hill. The entrance into the restaurant was so darn cute. A red door. Once you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you’ve entered into another place. The interior decor was very fitting and intimate. I loved it. The food was delicious and delectable. Whenever I go to any new Chinese restaurant I always want to order my favorite dishes to compare. The favorite dishes are eggplant and beef noodle soup. There were two other dishes we ordered, but I cannot remember what it was. However, they were also very good.I recommend this Chin location if you are craving Chinese food in this area.

Oh my God this is actually the most amazing and delicious restaurant in San Diego. I was walking by it one day and decided to try it and Im so happy I did.Ive Only gotten the Mongol pot (I think thats what its called) and its so good. All it is is a bunch of vegetables, some meat of your choice (they also have vegan options and you dont even need to order meat), white or brown rice, and an egg. You can also substitute the rice with kale and add or take away anything you want. They serve it in a really hot bowl that keeps the food warm the entire time youre eating it (its what makes the food so delicious). However, you should take their advice and never touch the bowl under any circumstances ever unless you want to burn yourself. Anyways, so on top you can add their sauces and some Sriracha and it all melts together. to be honest Im not even the biggest fan of vegetables but they become so tender and flavorful that it would be a shame to eat the bowl without it.In terms of the restaurant, its very rustic and clean. The waiter that works their is really chill and cool so Ive never had a problem with the service. The price of the bowl is around $9 with no meat and with beef (which is what I highly recommend) its around $14 after taxes. You get so much food and its so delicious that its really worth it in my opinion.Tl;dr If you are looking for a healthy place to eat thats extremely delicious and unique, I highly recommend eating here.

FOOD TO DREAM ABOUT ! My wife and I love good Indian food and we get even more than that ( Indian, Nepal & Tibet ) at this amazing restaurant. Of course it helps that we know Ishwari the owner from Himalayan Kitchen in Encinitas which he previously founded and co-owned for a number of years. I phoned Ishwari on Friday to make sure we could get a table inside on Saturday at 5pm...no problem Ishwari said. We arrived just before 5pm and parked in the parking lot behind the restaurant.....in the shade and so convenient. Ishwari was very happy to see us..it has been a while as he had been back in Nepal for a few weeks caring for his Dad until recently. We found a table near the front entrance and settled down. Glasses of cool water found their way to our table within seconds courtesy of Ishwari himself. An appetizer of Momo ( dumplings )...4 x Chicken & 4 x Vegetable sounded like a good start. A kind server named Satish brought me an ice cold glass to go with my ice cold Sierra Nevada Pale Ale ( not a beer I drink much but quite a refreshingly good beer ). My wife has become addicted to Shrimp Tandoori as of late ( probably after seeing me enjoy it many times here and elsewhere ) while even though I wanted a shrimp dish...I wanted something with a sting in the tail plus rice. Ishwari suggested Shrimp Korma kicked up to about a spicy 5 level ( my suggestion ). Its not even on the menu...hows that for great service ! Oh and we had to have a serve of Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread. Satish our server brought out our Mixed Momo appetizer...so delicate and so yummy. My ice cold pale ale paired perfectly with the dumplings. And then it sounded like fireworks when our mains arrived.....my wifes sensational looking Shrimp Tandoori was still sizzling away as it was placed on the table. Our Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread and my Shrimp Korma incl huge serve of Basmati Rice came out too. My wife was in GOURMET HEAVEN ! Not to be outdone my Shrimp Korma and Basmati Rice blew me away.....with the mouth watering Garlic Cilantro Naan Bread. We pretty much got through everything in front of us...much too good to waste. Before we left for home we ran into our good mate Laxman who had been running the restaurant while Ishwari had been away. Amazing cuisine with top quality ingredients prepared by expert chefs and friendly service that will make you want to come back again and again !

Nectarine Grove
948 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
On the evening of 28NOV18 between 7:20 - 7:35PM, I walked into the Nectarine Grove (NG). I had just left my workplace, received some work emails, and decided to stop by NG to respond prior to heading to workout. As I made my way through the front door one of your employees asked, Are you here from DoorDash? I simply responded by asking, Are you guys open?. Given that NG closes at 8PM, I ordered a glass bottle Yerba Mate (wanted something with a lighter feel and taste than coffee) and added a $1 tip since the order was small. I sat down, opened my computer, and began answering emails. Since I have been to the NG on two previous occasions, my computer automatically remembered NGs WiFi network.Sometime later, the same employee that had asked if I was from DoorDash proceeded to ask if I had purchased something. I showed him the Yerba Mate. He then continued by asking if I was studying to which I responded by stating that I was answering work emails. As my email responses began to come to a halt, he came back again and asked the name of the company I worked for. I pointed to my backpack, which contains the logo of Clinical Research company in San Diego. I think your environment and decor are wonderful (the food is great too!). I also would have willingly purchased meals for the three couples that were sitting in the cafe at the time, if that was what was necessary to make my presence acceptable at NG. After the last encounter, I decided to leave. It was very clear that I was unwelcomed in the environment and it was 7:45PM. (Note: Id like to point out that all other interactions Ive had with your staff have been pleasant.)Why share this narrative of a near insignificant interaction? Because its 2018 and I was racially profiled in a Southern California town with supposed liberal leanings. I relocated from New York about two months ago. Us New Yorkers understand that success comes in various races, sizes, and manifestations. Thats not to say that racism and racial profiling doesnt occur in New York - it occurs everywhere, but there seems to be an air of openness in NY that I especially missed tonight. Im currently looking for a neighborhood in North County to make my permanent home and after tonights interactions, its very clear that the Encinitas/Leucadia neighborhood does not need nor want me. I apologize for having brown skin. I apologize for leaving my hair curled this AM. I apologize for not looking nor fitting the type/mold of your traditional clientele. Be well. Stay well.

CHIKO

Not impressed. This place encapsulates everything wrong with American tipping culture, and don’t get me started on the food. Apart from someone plopping your food in a metal tray on your table, everything is self service here- you seat yourself, order and pay first through a QR code on your phone and you have to get out of your seat to dispense and refill your own water. There’s another restaurant that does this- it’s called McDonald’s, and they don’t expect a tip. While I have no problem either serving myself, or with tipping as a reward after good service has been rendered, I find it fatuous and very rich to be presented with a suggested tip starting at 18% when ordering through my phone before any service has been given. Much less when I have to refill my own water cup. Furthermore, as we were eating our meal, I saw a notice that our bill automatically included a 5% gratuity to cover “cost of labor”. So I guess the proprietors aren’t really paying their employee’s wages- you are. Again, not as much a of a problem if someone’s taking your order, providing you with menu suggestions and refilling your water, etc. Now, on to the food. Suffice it to say, this place caters to western tastes- not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that. My wife and I chose this place as is was the only Chinese/Asian restaurant in the area that seem to feature authentic flavors, compared to the usual orange chicken and broccoli beef at typical American-Chinese restaurants. However, the dishes definitely were modified to cater to an American palate; very sweet with liberal amours of oil and salt- basically everything that makes makes Americans fat and unhealthy and which authentic Asian cuisines use more sparingly.I ordered the cumin lamb noodles. Cumin lamb is a classic sichuanese dish, but what I got was completely different. Very little cumin flavor and it was excessively sweet, like a cup of sugar was poured in and then drenched in oil.Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but don’t think we’ll be giving this place another try. I guess still nothing beats driving 40 minutes down to the convoy area….

I set up a celebration dinner here on 08/11 and after seeing the menu and pictures posted online, I was so excited to book a reservation. Reserved a table for two for an inside table (this was specified) three days in advance and was ready to go!Got a text message on the way to the restaurant that my table was ready, and I thought this was a great little touch and made me feel like my reservation meant something. It was all downhill from there.Once I got to the hostess stand, she grabbed the two menus and led us to our table, outside, curbside... Im not really one to make a fuss on these situations so I just rolled with it, but it was strike one in my head.We then proceeded to wait 30 minutes until we were acknowledged by ANYBODY. There were tables around us getting served, but we sat there getting passed up with empty glasses of water that were never filled waiting for anyone to acknowledge us.After the 30 minute wait, we finally got our waitress, who I will not name here, that seemed less than enthusiastic to serve our table and made me less than enthused to be here. She took out drink order and disappeared.10 minutes laters, these 2 absolutely beautiful drinks were dropped off without a word, and our waitress disappeared again to our confusion. After another ten minutes she did come back to take our food order and that was the last time our waitress came to our table voluntarily without us having to wave or hunt her down. At times we had to ask the ladies at the hostess stand for assistance regarding issues at our table which should never be the case. The food, however, was presented beautifully. Whoever is doing the plating and drink set up, I want to give you a big shout out! Keep up the beautiful work! The taste did not live up to the presentation. We order the calamari, the paella, and the lobster roll with the Mac and cheese. The calamari had some flavor but the Lobster Roll and Mac and Cheese were sadly lacking in that category. The paella was beyond salty for both of our palettes and ended up getting returned. The bread was fresh though and the pesto accompaniment was a great addition.Overall, I was looking forward to this dinner, but was wholeheartedly disappointed. The celebration dinner was ruined by an disheartening seating assignment, food that was decent at best and mediocre to non existent service.Although the presentation of the food and drinks was remarkable, I could not and would not recommend. However, quite a few people seated elsewhere in the establishment seemed to be having a great time, so to each their own.

One2Go Thai Kitchen
191 N El Camino Real #110, Encinitas, CA 92024, United States
I can see that this establishment is attempting to separate themselves from the average Thai places already existed. I drove to this nearby town of Encinitas to find its setting refreshing and, though small space, clean and pleasant. It is in a small strip mall off El Camino Real, easy to find. If I live in the neighborhood, I would spend sometime hangout here eating my favorite lunch or dinner and their variety of drinks, watching people come and go.I tried the Kao Soi (Chiangmai curry noodle), because it is rare to find it being offered else where. The broth/soup had good depth of flavors, a bit leaning on sweet side. I do hope they tone it down a bit. The egg noodle was similar to the one used in Thailand, so it was good effort. It should be barely cooked since the hot broth would further cook the noodle. The chicken leg, though seems generously huge, the meat was on the tough side, you must use your muscles to try to separate the meat from the bone, messy task. My guess, it was not stewing in the broth, but was simply boiled separately, then add to the bowl. I am hoping they would cook that leg in the broth until the meat fall apart, allowing the flavors to permeated into the meat. It would be so lovely. The other one I ordered was Kao Moo Dang. It came with Chinese sausage which I loved, and a boiled egg. The sauce has good flavor, rice was slightly overcooked, but it was ok, the BBQ pork slices was delicious, however, the meat was again on the tough side, perhaps need to marinade it longer to break it down further. Overall, I enjoyed the dish since it reminded me of my time in Thailand.I would certainly pay more visits in future, and try other dishes, perhaps, something that are more of sure thing. Kao Soi is not an easy dish to match what they have in Chiangmai, but good enough, except for the meat. I hope they make it available in other kind of meat instead of chicken only. The bowl that they use to serve the hot soup was plastic. I prefer soup/broth in ceramic bowls, dont you?I wanted to try their Thai coffee but it has already sugar in it. So, I passed. Nowadays, with some of us trying to avoid added sugar, I believe it might be prudent that they leave off the sugar and let the customers add it to their taste. Just a thought.I think for a restaurant just over one year young, it is a delight. Of course, theres room to improve, but I think they are on their way to become a bigger hit, and a positive addition to the community.

This is a great area, with a lot of kid friendly shops and places to eat. You can get almost anything you want to buy on this street. If you are looking for the recycling place, its around back and hard to find, there is a iline usually I just drop my stuff there and let someone else cash it in who is doing a hustle, I also think the pasta Italian place is super slow and overpriced, although if you wanna deal with all that and get the top shelf Italian fixings it got everything including the fresh pasta made on site- theres a Vons and the Starbucks is OK there, the Pep Boys did me right.

Been coming here for years and never expected this type of behavior specifically from two employees! My mom went in today around 3:40pm to buy our family dinner, an employee supposably named Amy was asking her for our 3 bowl and 2 plate orders too quickly that she couldn't keep up with what my mom was telling her! She was annoyed at my mom and telling her she was confusing her when my mom was clearly telling her what she wanted in each plate! My mom made a comment saying that the reason she was “confused” was because she was trying to serve the plates too quick!! clearly she can't multitask!!Mind you there was no one behind her in line so what's the rush? She left her unattended for over 5 min without telling her that one of the entrees wasn't ready yet!She and another employee supposably named Greg were making comments and laughing at her and ignored my mom when she tried to confront them! When my mom left the lady named Amy mocked her saying “byeeeee” making fun of her with her tone of voice! They were being DISGUSTING with their behaviors just like them as people! My mom had to ask another staff member for their names because they didn't have name tags and didn't want to give them their names so we don't even know if this third employee was being truthful!!This kind of behavior is not okay especially coming from fast food workers who think they're entitled?? Not only did my mom feel humiliated but it goes to show that those two humans don't care about their customers or people in general! Would love to see their moms or someone they care about being humiliated to see how they feel about it after! I will be contacting corporate non stop until they do something about it, people who are so low these days think that taking it out on others will make them feel any better, it's truly sad.. I already spread the word and we are all equally disappointed!!!Do better!!!
