Sushi Kuu
1001 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002, United States
Great little Japanese restaurant in the Carlmont shopping center. The inside has 7 tables plus two counters for dining. The table staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is open later than other restaurants in the area. The goths here are the chicken teriyaki, the gal bi ribs and the four seasons roll.

New Japanese restaurant in local belmont. Saw they have Ramen on their menu. Woohoo! Ordered one piece of fancy imported sushi and a fancy roll, ramen and a hot sake. All good. Ramen, char shiu pork and soup were tasty. Not your traditional compilation. Hot sake tastier than expected. Ambience too hectic for my taste. A bit rushed considering how much we spent for dinner. Not sure if its because of new opening.

Jiro Cafe & Bakery
1094 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002, United States
It is remarkable that an authentic Japanese bakery exists in the Peninsula, let alone a quaint neighborhood between San Carlos and Belmont. Dont get me wrong - nothing wrong with this. Just that you might wonder whether the demand is there. Now imagine if your favorite friendly Japanese aunt had a hobby in baking. Shes quite good. And she puts a smile on everyones face whenever she serves bread. And one day, she decides she wants to try opening a bakery. Start small, sell it to those thats around her. Im not sure what the backstory of Jiros is but it absolutely feels this way.The breads here are nothing but love. You can feel the love and care theyve put into it. Yes, they taste quite good. Not your top notch Michelin grade but also not a factory-style super sweet sales-optimized production. They are hearty. To judge any Japanese bakery, you must try its Melon-pan. Its the primary staple of any Japense establishment. The crust must be crisp yet gentle. The insides airy. The melon scent is the key. Jiros does not nail this. I wished the bread was a bit more briochy and the crust didnt carry the melon scent well. Also, a hint of chocolate filling surprised me. It is definitely not your commerical classical recipe. But it worked. I enjoyed it.And now... the price. $4.50 for a Melon-pan is nearing the border of blasphemy. It is like charging $20 for a burger. However, this is what you should be wililng to pay to taste bread made with love.Im so happy that Jiros opened in San Carlos. Will absolutely return to try all of their menus.

My husband and I love Spanish food and looked forward to dining at Iberia Restaurant, Belmont, Saturday, August 31st. We invited my elderly mother as we know she also enjoys Spanish food. What a “huge” disappointment we experienced. First, there is no handicapped parking, so we had to park quite a way down the street from the entrance to the restaurant which was a difficult walk for my mom. When we entered the restaurant, we were not greeted. We approached the hostess/waitress to inform her of our reservation. She sat us at a table close to the kitchen area which was not very pleasant since servers kept walking back and forth by our table, not at all relaxing. The waitress handed each of us a menu. We told her we would like to start with a cocktail before ordering. After she took our order she scurried away and did not return until she brought our cocktails. She later returned to take our order. At that time, we told her it was our first dining experience there and asked if she could help us with the menu since it was a bit overwhelming. She quickly went through the menu with very little detail and said most people order the Paella and maybe four or five tapa dishes, and the Paella will take at least 30 minutes to prepare. We wished she would have mentioned the timing when she first handed us the menus, if we knew the length of time we would have ordered before having a cocktail since we knew the wait may have been a bit too much for my elderly mom. We thought it best to go with a variety of tapas dishes. The dishes came out one at a time by a server who, when delivered, did not say what each one was, so we had to try and figure out for ourselves each dish's identity. The red wine we ordered was also very warm. The wine itself was good but way too warm. The main thing we noticed was our waitress, as well as the rest of the staff, are very robotic; no smiles or enthusiasm from anyone and no effort to make the customers feel welcome.Overall, we felt very uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave. However, the final straw was when we received our bill. There was a 20% gratuity already included in the price. The tapas were very good, but the service was horrible! We felt robbed!!After we paid the bill we promptly left never to return!

Ryoshin Sushi
1602 El Camino Real suite c, Belmont, CA 94002, United States
This is a small restaurant on the corner of El Camino Real and fifth Avenue. There is no parking lot for the restaurant but there is plenty of street parking on Fifth Avenue. The restaurant can literally seat 4 couples and one party of 4 (yes it is small!) Most of their business is take out. What they dont have in size of the restaurant they make up on flavor. We ordered Baked Mussel and seaweed salad for appetizers. The seaweed salad was ordinary but omg the baked mussel was phenomenal. The mussel was baked perfectly and the sauce had the right mix of cheese and some type of sweet sauce...yum!For main course we ordered the chefs special-- Toro tasting and Hokkaido Scallop Oshizushi. The Toro special was excellent, perfectly cooked and just right amount of flavor. Same thing for the scallop roll. Neither one of them needed soy sauce so you can guess how tasty the food was.We topped off the dinner with housemade mile crepe cake. It is highly rated by other reviewers. It was indeed very good but not as spectacular as I had hoped for.The only negative I would say is the serving size in the context of the price. I understand we all eat too much so having a small meal is good. However the price has to be commensurate with the serving size. I dont think it was. Nonetheless a great place to get grub from. Loved it.

Carlmont Village Shopping Center
1049 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002, United States
Cuter-than-your-average-strip-mall in the middle of Belmont. Frequented mostly by locals, theres no standout anchor that brings em in, aside from perhaps upscale grocery Lunardis. Instead, theres a collection of seemingly competently-run restaurants (continental, mexican, chinese, japanese, pizza, bagels, etc.), specialty shops (kitchen design, dry cleaning, optometry, salon, chiropractor, convenience store with liquor license, etc.), and a couple of national/regional chains/franchises (Bank of America, Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, Subway, ACE Hardware, Verizon). The crown gem of this mall used to be Tylers nursery, a little Eden hidden one floor down from the main level, where a meandering stream ran through rows of interesting plants and trees, under a footbridge and next to a fountain. After over half a century, Tylers is closing in September 2015, and whatever replaces it will have a significant impact on whether the mall retains its unique flavor.
