Akita Japanese Restaurant

Charming Japanese restaurant tucked in to a little shopping center in southwest Escondido that has awesome sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and other Japanese cuisine. The staff is very friendly; it feels like being back in Japan.

This was my first time placing an order online. Good thing I opted for leaving a tip.My order said that it was going to be ready in 30 min and it had my phone number and the page said it will notify for updates about the oreder.I went 10 before my order was going to be ready at. I pulled through the drive tru and there was 2 cars in front of me. The one in front of me had his car turned off which I called to confirm they were using the drive tru. They said yes so I waited 10 min on the drive tru.As I pulled to the window. You see all this man preparing with no gloves what so ever. Mind you I work at a restaurang where everone that handle foods have gloves at all time. The person to ask me for my name order was bad. He asked my name and then went to the counter to help another cutomer. Mind you I was there and why would he help if he was gonna keep me waiting. Took him another 5 minutes to finally give me my order. He handed me a tiny bag with a small bowl. I was shocked at the little amount the serve for the price they charge. I then touch the broth and it was lukewarm. I told him why is not hot. He then gets someone else thats rude and says that is being sitting there for a while. I was in disbelief. I did mention to him what his webapage said and that I didnt get no notification that it was ready. He rudely said that they dont do that and that they can warm it up for me. I am never coming back to this place. Worst service ever and take long and just ignore you
Mikko Sushi
231 E Grand Ave, Escondido, CA 92025, United States
Well, this location is a welcome breath of fresh air to Grand Avenue and easily the best sushi in Escondido. The space is high end modern and nicely decorated. The menu is extensive with literally all of the main Japanese dishes expected in fine Japanese restaurant. The sushi is very good to excellent. Prices are very fair and the service attentive. For those who avoid raw fish, there are many menu options for cooked/grilled fish, seafood, beef and chicken as well as tempura and tofu choices. There is also a lunch menu. So overall, a big upgrade to the local food scene.

I so want to love this place!!!!What’s amazing:The location…right next to the movie theater, so it’d perfect for date night dinner and a movie. The menu selections, they have great variety offering 4 pages of rolls, ramen, sushi/roll/sashimi combos, noodles, Korean dishes, and more Japanese dishes…tons to love. What was disappointing:I got the I love You roll. It was so/so. Small size and minimal tuna, but flavorful with the sauces. My date ordered the Yaki Soba with beef. It was bland, he asked for ponzu to enhance the flavor. That helped. It had tiny pieces of beef and maybe 2 oz max of beef (that’s being generous). Minimal vegetables (few shredded carrots, and pieces of cabbage), he specifically asked if it came with bell peppers and broccoli as shown in their menu photo. None of that :(. The noodles were tiny, like ramen, not thicker soba as advertised and pictured. Disappointing overall. The cleanliness of restaurant. The table was sticky and the window and surrounding area was pretty gross. They have tons of overstock stacked supplies next to tables that’s an eye sore as well.Would love to see improvement and have high hopes for a better future visit.
Surf Brothers Teriyaki and Catering

My wife, her family of 5, and I just flew back into town. On our way home we decided to stop into Escondido to change the baby, and grab a bite to eat. We discovered this establishment because it looked like a fun place to celebrate our first meal in California. We walked in to order food, my wife indicated to the employee that she needed to change the baby, and to my surprise the employee directed her to a McDonalds across the plaza. This was completely unnecessary to send her with the baby walking across the plaza to use another establishments facilities. None the less I quickly blew it off, and asked my wife if she would just go back to the van and change the baby, and I would order her food for her. As we all started ordering food it became apparent that there were few options on the menu. Basically rice, and meat. The food we ordered was approx. $10.00-$11.00 a plate. Which totaled nearly $80.00 for all 6 of us. Honestly I thought, for that price it had to be pretty amazing. NOPE! It was basically a knock off Panda Express with rice, chicken, teriyaki, or a mix of the meats. Oh and it came in the same kind of to-go container as Panda. But the restaurant went with black. Cool. At this point, I couldnt even stand being in there. But before I left I needed to use the restroom. I got up, tried to open the door and realized someone was in there because the door was locked. I sat back down and waited patiently. Not long after, One of my In-laws informed me that I had to ask permission to use the restroom. The employee must of seen me trying because when I walked up he had the bathroom key in hand, and ever so cooley handed off the presumably dirty key to me. I reluctantly used the facility, dropped the key back off on the counter, and got everyone back in the car. But out of all of this... What really irked me was after realizing I had to have a key to use the restroom, it explained to me why the employee directed my wife off to McDonalds in the first place. You have to give them money first. Bottom line, if you want more bang for your buck, more options, more food, pay less money, and not have to ask to use a dirty restroom key? go to a Panda Express!
Hajime Ramen

Amazing food at unbelievable price. If you dont eat pork like me, you never feel completely welcome at a ramen restaurant. So when I learned theres a 100% chicken ramen place I just had to try it out, and I was blown away. What an amazing bowl of ramen. And for $12 only???? It was better than the ramen Ive paid $16-17 for at places like Tajima and Nishiki. Fantastic noodles (hand-made according to the owner). Perfect egg. Im actually worried theyll go out of business if they keep selling at such a low price. Its so good I ate 1 bowl there and ordered 1 more to go.The business is actually the owners house. Apparently this is legal now by some new law?!? Its take-out only but the owner said I could sit on their patio and eat if I take my trash with me. Its quite a unique experience. Highly recommended!!! Try this before they run out of business ***i really hope not***
Sushi Yama

FIRST TIME EATER!Went on a work lunch with 2 other amazing ladies to Sushi Yama today - first time ever going here even though its literally walking distance from my office. However I will TOTALLY be back.We had amazing service from Amber. She was super attentive and nice, quick, efficient and catered to any request we had.The food was AMAZING! I eat pretty healthy and so I am always aware that I could easily eat 15 sushi rolls and be stoked about it but I need to be strategic.Their menu is online and was available for me to check out prior to arriving. I knew exactly what I wanted and it came out even better than I anticipated.I am not sure why I havent been there before but it will definitely be a return. It was so delicious I literally just asked my husband if he wanted to go tonight on a date night!5 out of 5 would definitely recommend!- Masks to and from tables- Casual environment- Will be an epic summer eatery as they keep it really cold in their due to food that they serve (I recommend a jacket if you run cold)- No outside smokers air comes in- Split tab friendly- Great service- Very reasonably priced- Indoor and patio seating- Attached parking lot (its across the street from City Halls larger lot)
Sushi Nori

Amazing. The food was Fresh... Nothing fishy or wilted and the staff was extremely friendly. The hostess sitted us quickly and service was most attentive. I knew very little about the food, so the waitress helped me pick out things to try.... Udon noodle soup with tempora vegetables, Hawaiian Roll, Spider Roll and the Lemon Lover Roll, Beef Dumplings (more like a pot sticker) and finally Strawberry Mochi for dessert. The Suchi Chef compliment us with a Samon Ball...: salmon with crab, a dolup of cream cheese, Jalepino, deep fried to a crispy outer shell and dressed with spicy sauce. Im salivating just talking about it... LOLYou must try this restaurant even if you know nothing about Japanese Food. ☺
Tokyo Express

This was an unexpected stop we did. When you walk in its not much to look at. In fact it may make you turn around but I definitely recommend taking the time to try them out. The pricing for the food is amazing. Sushi between 5 to 10 dollars for 9 rolls. They were well made and the portions were amazing. We had the Fuji rolls, shrimp tempura, and the Philadelphia. We also order the bento chicken teriyaki. It brought a really tasty sweet and vinegar cucumber, rice with sesamine seed on it, California rolls and the teriyaki. The host who is also the cashier lady was super friendly. Very attentive. Always came up to see if we needed anything else. She added no extra charge 2 miso soup for us which was super nice of her considering we had our son with us. Only complain I can really have is that the amount of rice they give does over power the meal. Thats it. Aside from not looking like a 5 start restaurant the service plus meal was sure great.
