Taihei Sushi Restaurant

Old school real Japanese restaurant prepared by Japanese chefs. Sweet shrimp comes with deep fried heads!
Sakura
574 Lighthouse Ave, Monterey, CA 93940, United States
I can honestly say that I think this is the best sushi and Japanese restaurant in the Monterey Peninsula region. The chef paid close attention to detail and the sushi was perfectly served, cut, and sized. The Nabeyake Udon was delicious. We had to wait a little long because it looked like the restaurant was having trouble hiring during the post pandemic time, but that was completely understandable. Would highly recommend eating here!
Shinano Restaurant
1106 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
AS THE STORY GOES, IF ANYONE REMEMBERS YAMAS ON MAIN IN ALHAMBRA. WAS MY FAMLIES FAVORITE JAPANESE RESTAURANT. SADLY IT CLOSED. WE TRIED MANY OTHER RESTAURANTS, BUT TO NO AVAIL. CAME ACROSS SHINANOS IN MONTEREY PARK. DELICIOUS! NOT YOUR HIP MODERN RESTAURANT. VERY COMFY & WELCOMING. ITS GOING TO BE OUR GO TO JAPANESE RESTAURANT. THANK YOU ALL WHO WORK THERE. SEE YOU SOON.
Kaiba Japanese Restaurant - Monterey Park
816 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Friendly staff, parking can be tough at times, small dining spaces and the restaurant offers a wide variety of Japanese food selections. We would love it more if the online waitlist is available for use. Currently we can only join the waitlist at the door. The kitchen-made items feel chewy, dense which was probably overcooked. Sushi bar items are decent. They have counterparts in Pasadena, Anaheim and this review is for the Monterey Park location. Kaiba has just opened a new spot in La Verne and we’re planning to try them all.
Toribashi
487 Alvarado St, Monterey, CA 93940, United States
Although the family running the shop is Korean, they brought real Japanese ramen restaurant atmosphere with self-ordering touch-screen machine, individual eating spaces, counter spaces, tables for small and large groups. We have been Ramen fans and have had Ramen at many places including Japan, this place brought real authentic Japanese Ramen flavors. We ordered Shio-Spicy, and Tonkotsu-Spicy cuz we love spicy food, and let me tell ya, they are REALLY REALLY spicy. I was sweating while I eat. But theyre sooooo good.We found this place unplanned and so glad we did. Its on my Saved places to revisit.
Benihana Monterey
136 Olivier St, Monterey, CA 93940, United States
The food wasnt that great and costly. They seat to many people at a table. Everything was served by itself. Gave you your rice and maybe 15 minutes later you meat another 10 minutes for or veggies and another 5 t0 10 for mushrooms. Ill never go back. Much better Japanese restaurants for much less. Also their cooking show was very disappointing but them again Im a cook.
Sapporo Sushi & Steakhouse
3 Municipal Wharf 2, Monterey, CA 93940, United States
THE MOST UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE at this restaurant.I visited with my husband and my service dog last Friday. We were visiting Monterey for our business trip from DTLA and chose this place because they advertise outdoor seating. Before our visit, I called to confirm that outdoor seating was available and that my service dog would be permitted. They assured me that it was fine, but informed me that reservations were not accepted and seating was on a first-come, first-served basis. We agreed to these terms. This arrangement was satisfactory for us. Although my dog is a service animal, I always confirm with the establishment to ensure there are no issues.Upon arrival, it became apparent that the restaurant did not actually have proper outdoor seating. I inquired again to verify this and was met with rudeness from the receptionist. Haha. When we were shown the so-called outdoor seating, it was clear that it was not truly outdoor. There were only two tables positioned behind a door leading to the marina, which did not qualify as a proper outdoor dining area. The worst part of the experience occurred when our server arrived. She did not greet us and immediately and aggressively instructed me to remove my dogs paws from the table.I understand and respect regulations concerning pets indoors. However, my dog is a service animal, and I had confirmed twice with the restaurant about bringing her. Moreover, she was in her stroller the entire time.It seems that some employees believe they have the authority to control customers, but before exercising such authority, they need to be thoroughly educated on the relevantThe server: Do not blame customers why you work weekends and not me. Confidence doesnt come from fake eyelashes and make-ups but from knowledge and education.
Sushi Kuma
414 Alvarado St, Monterey, CA 93940, United States
Decided to give Kuma Sushi a try. The place is pretty crowded and somewhat noisy. Customer service is not the friendliest and it took sometime before being noticed. I dont eat seafood so I opted to try vegetable Sushi rolls and the Tempura. The Sushi is pretty pricey and the portions are on the smaller side. The taste was not what I am use to from eating Sushi in authentic Japanese restaurants. The rice didnt have any flavour and was plain white rice. The Tempura wasnt anything special and I wasnt overly impressed. This restaurant seems popular with a younger crowd and theres definitely a lot of drinking taking place. Even the staff here seem to participate in drinking. As for me its not really my type of vibe and I would not return. But the young people seem to have been having a good time. Two stars is what I am giving them.
Kokoro Japanese Restaurant
2207 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Better than I expected. I dont usually go to Monterey Park to eat sushi, but just happened to when I visited Kokoro recently. This is a casual Japanese eatery that has sushi and other Asian foods, even Korean-inspired dishes like bbq short ribs. The food was tasty all around. I give them big props for using high quality fish for their sushi and sashimi. For the most part, it was melt-in-your-mouth, flavorful, and fresh. It definitely felt more elevated than what the casual atmosphere is like.I think the raw marinated crab and shrimp is also a winner here. Its pretty much like what you find at Korean seafood restaurants, but the difference is that it is reasonably priced here compared to what Korean spots charges these days. I mean, $35 a crab. Not terribly bad compared to market value.Yes, this spot is safe. I would definitely come back again.
Tokyo Fried Chicken
122 S Atlantic Blvd, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
Triple - fried chicken with homemade ponzu sauce and creative side dishes like candied carrots with bacon and cheese crumbles over Brussel sprouts make this Japanese/ American fusion a winner! Another great Monterey Park restaurant!
