Katana LA
8439 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
The price was high, the food was ok, probably you could pay less in some other Japanese restaurants.Plating was ok, nothing extraordinary. The ambiance was like 1 or 2 star, old and out dated. Smells like dirty, cheap old restaurant in Las Vegas. Dont be fool by the pictures on their website, nothing even close! actual food wasnt picture worthy. Not good for taking your date, just dont!Service was good though.

Ajisai

My family and I keep returning to Ajisai because of how good the food is and how kind the staff is. Their Mr. Trump roll is always a highlight, and I’m convinced that heaven is filled with an infinite supply of their salmon rolls. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in L.A, and I will always look forward to coming here.

Toku Unagi & Sushi
1106 N La Cienega Blvd #201, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
A very authentic Japanese restaurant specializing in unagi meals. This restaurant originated from the restaurant in Japan and offer Japan imported premium unagi. The taste is comparable to the one I had in Japan. Its a little bit pricey in terms of the amount of food but the taste is worth it.

Tenmasa Japanese Restaurant
9016 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
We r neighbors, they are good ones. I worried that restaurant food might not be moving/fresh, but we were dying for japanese. Rainbow roll, salmon teriyaki - couple basics for take-out to split w asian lady ( tough audience). Greeted by the family, the senora of the operation opened each one, described it like carol merrill on the price was right. Her hands glided along the perimeter of the styrofoam saying i guarantee this $hit. THE FOOD WAS GLORIOUS! perfect in every way she sold me a big japanese beer and no lie - nirvana. Go here - its like, really japanese.

Akuma Ramen & Sushi Bar
8267 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
Love this themed Japanese restaurant. The theme is anime and anything related to it. As an avid anime/manga consumer it was super cool to geek out about all their decorations. They food was delicious too. My fiance and I went there for the sushi and overall we had an amazing time. The menu is a bit hard to navigate (only digital menues when we went), but manageable. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Their garlic edamame is DELICIOUS (definitely get this). Bit on the pricey side.

Sachi Sushi
8730 Santa Monica Blvd # F, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Underrated small Japanese restaurant in a prime location. How could we be one of two tables during lunch hour?We enjoyed an excellently prepared selection of nigiris. The chef even included their special of whole edible crabs. The woman who served us was so thoughtful, to the point when I told my son to be careful of the hot soup, she said she added ice cubes to make it the perfect sippable temperature. I love this kind of care.

Sushi Ginza Onodera
609 La Cienega Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
This was probably one of the worst dining experiences Ive had for the price we paid. Service was chaotic while we were there. Even though it was an omakase menu, there was no progression to the meal at all. What we started off with, the diners beside us ended their meal with. It just felt very awkward since it was bar seating and we could see what everyone else was being served. At one point we waited 35 minutes for our next course. The servers were confused as to which courses we already had, and which ones were still waiting on. Unacceptable for such a highly rated Japanese restaurant. After reading such great reviews, this restaurant did not live up to our expectations. And at $300 a person, I could have gotten better service at another local Japanese restaurant. The food itself was okay. Fish was fresh, but weve definitely had much better quality at this price point. Overall, very disappointed.

Sushiya on Sunset
8650 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Im actually so baffled after my dinner at this restaurant… I was honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews after my experience…It looks vibey from the outside and I was expecting to have a pleasant experience with my friends on the iconic sunset blvd, but OMG what was up with the service?? Legitimately, who tf is running this place because someone needs to check their brain cell count! First off, everything took so unbelievably long even though the restaurant was far from fully booked. I got the rock shrimp and the crunchy rolls and I was so excited and soooo hungry… The wait for the first wave of food (small dishes and starters) was absurdly long, but the rock shrimp finally arrived and was honestly pretty tasty… All my friends slowly got their meals, and I was still waiting for my rolls. Even when my friends did get their foods, there was STILL complications. The waiter didn't even know which dish was what and seemed so disoriented; I was honestly concerned. After another significant amount of time had passed, our initial waitress who took our orders came to deliver (what I thought were my rolls), however, we had to send it back since none of us had ordered the dish she brought over. We deduced that she had put in the wrong order, which is fine, but the wait for the rolls I actually ordered from the start was so long that all my friends finished their meals and it STILL hadn't come out. I just had to ask for it “to go” which was frustrating since the whole plan was to enjoy a nice dinner out with my friends. If I wanted carry out sushi, I would've gotten it!!At this point I was thinking, what's going on? They were taking forever to do each little step, even just bringing the check, and we all needed to return our rental car by a specific time that we did not make because everything was so all over the place at this restaurant. We all had to pay a hefty late fee for our car on top of an already hefty dinner price. We didn't get any sort of reimbursement at the restaurant despite it being entirely their fault they messed up the order. I get it, everyone makes mistakes and that was fine until I overheard our waitress delivering a giant sushi plater to this other party of 4 next to us saying it was ON THE HOUSE. I couldn't believe it. Like hello???Anyways, I'm actually scared to go back since it felt like I was having a stroke in there. I would never recommend this place to anyone I like or care about. Night: ruined.

Simply excellent. Im worried that these types of Japanese restaurants are fading. This place totally reminds me of what Nippon used to be in Toluca Lake. High level of craft is what you need when the dish only has two components. The best part, no kewpie with siracha anywhere ;)
