Genwa Korea BBQ (Beverly Hills)
170 N La Cienega Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
Ive only been to this Beverly Hills Genwa location, and it was often for b-day occasions with family. If there is any Korean bbq restaurant that matches the quality of Ktown bbq outside of Ktown LA, then this place is it. Yes, its in a pretty rich white neighborhood, but the food here is very authentic tasting. And the meat quality used in the bbq is top notch, right up there with Quarters and Baekjeong. The only down side is that it is pretty pricey, so you will be spending a lot of money if you come here. But for a special occasion, such as a b-day or a group dinner, it is fun. Its a nice, elegant and spacious place. Did I mention the banchan selection is amazing? Go here just for this!Genwa is one of the k bbqs that I cover on my YouTube channel called Rockstar Eater, under the video 10 Best Korean BBQ restaurants in LA.

A cute fusion, farm to table restaurant in Beverly Hills. We parked on the street right in front of the restaurant. We came during off-lunch hours on a Tuesday afternoon so there was no wait. The interior was nice and spacious but it was fairly empty during our time there. I can see it being a bit cramped and chaotic if it were to be packed but that might be a vibe too. They had a few tables outside in their porch area.Service is exceptional. Attentive and very kind. Loved the vibe the servers created. They had fun conversations amongst each other and that was really cool to hear/see. Seemed like a fun & chill place to work.Food- 2 Korean galbi tacos with tortilla soup. The tacos were stuffed with meat and veggies. Loved the chipotle crema. It was a yummy burst of flavors. Tortilla soup was a good combination with the tacos. Easy to eat. Good flavors and seasoning!-Garlic noodles with scallops. I was very impressed with the noodles! They were good on their own. The perfect amount of garlic. So many places go over or under with the garlic but these noodles were garlic perfection. The scallops were juicy and elevated the dish.-Parmesan fries. These were sooooo crispy! I love when the outside is crisp and the inside is soft and thick. We will definitely come back to try the burgers and truffle fries *drool*. Another customer had ordered the Blasteran burger and it got everyones attention.
Gourmando
107 S Robertson Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
Went here for Dine LA last night and was excited because it was my first Dine LA experience. My gf said last time she was here the food was great and it was worth coming back to for Dine LA. We had reservations and we were seated upon arrival. Everything was great so far, our waiter was very nice. Found it odd they were out of the duck confit, in the first hour of dinner service.Drinks:Chef special cocktail (bourbon and absinthe mix) it was okBanshee Pinot Noir (a bit fruity, slightly dry, and smooth)For appetizers we ordered:Grilled Spanish Octopus (pretty tasty would recommend)Chile con Queso Truffle Mac (also another tasty option, truffle oil was very light)Roasted Butternut Squash Soup (great soup, loved how the pepper and spices cut the natural sweetness of the butternut squash a bit)Entree:Wild Pacific Shrimp ala Plancha (tasted good but was Abit salty)14oz Angus Ribeye Steak Frites (steak was tasty and fries were nice and crispy. Ive had better steaks but this wasnt bad)Dessert:Chocolate Ganache Tart (yummy)Reason for 2 stars:Appetizers took quite a while to come out, 35-40mins. Entrees took about an hour to come out. Our ribeye was sent to a different table and had to cook another one. The shrimp came out but was missing a portion of the entree (crispy paella rice which imo was integral for giving contrast in texture) we had to ask our waiter why it was missing a part of the entree. Food overall was good, but waiting for about 40mins minutes for appetizers and a little over an hour for our entrees sucked to the point I wasnt even hungry or had the appetite to even eat half my entree. Our waiter comped our drinks which was a nice gesture, but most likely will not return.Note: no picture of rib eye steak frites because I was IDGAF at that point to almost not care anymore.
Lawrys The Prime Rib
100 La Cienega Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
Last evening we went to Lawrys to celebrate my husbands 80th birthday - reservation under Coyner for 5 people at 6PM. We were escorted to a booth where a couple of male staff members pulled out the heavy table for us to be seated - 5 of us in a booth meant for 4. As the restaurant was crowded with no other seating available, we had to make do. To make matters worse, the table was set for 4 so additional setup had to be unceremoniously added piecemeal first with a napkin & flatware. Had to request a wine glass and the water server came with 4 glasses & had to get another. Not a great start and we all would have had more personal space flying coach. Our server Dea presented herself. Her friendly demeanor helped rectified that bumpy start and all went well until the meat course. My husband ordered a filet minion medium rare. Said steak was served medium well. The overdone steak was returned, without issue, to the kitchen and its replacement (perfectly prepared) was served at least 10 minutes before the carving cart showed up with the remaining 4 Prime Rib dinners. All main courses should have been served at the same time. What was served was delicious. Now it is desert time and I even had an80 candle to put on Maxs desert. We requested the desert menu twice from Dea - once when ordering coffee, tea and espresso. Again, the 3 beverages were not served at the same time - first came Maxs coffee in a mug; then Dennis espresso. Linda had to request her tea twice and it came as a mug of hot water with a tea bag in it - a very mundane presentation. The desert menu was requested a second time and after at least a 15 minute wait, we gave up on birthday desert; packed up the 80 candle and requested the bill. It was like Dea moved onto other people. Said bill arrived in due course; credit cards and bill picked up. More waiting. Young man presents a second duplicate bill and now a third person arrives table side with the original receipt and the credit cards. It was like keystone cops. The Bill is settled and our husbands pull the heavy table out with no help from male staff so we three ladies could get out. Not a very classy exit. Not to pile on here but I went to the ladies room on the way out - what a mess with toilet paper on the floor and the sink counter all wet. Either your female clients are slobs or ladies room attendants are not doing their job. The food was delicious but the service went from excellent to dismal in the time we were there. What was to have been a celebration after theatre among friends of a milestone birthday, left much to be desired. I guess the best term to describe the dining experience is uneven. Some additional training is in order, in my opinion. K
Bodhi Kosher Thai
9198 W Olympic Blvd #3540, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, United States
Hi,my recent visit to Bodhi Kosher Thai left much to be desired, casting a shadow on what I had hoped would be a delightful dining experience.starting with the pineapple curry, I found it underwhelming, akin to a concoction of boiled water infused with coconut cream, accented with unripe pineapple chunks, green peppers, and a smattering of leaves - a medley devoid of any discernible flavor. the tofu, an integral component, seemed as if it was merely lifted from its container and introduced to the curry without the courtesy of seasoning, contributing nothing to the dishs flavor profile.the crispy spring rolls, too, fell short of expectations. their resemblance to frozen offerings from Trader Joes, hastily deep-fried in seemingly aged oil, was uncanny. the exterior was excessively crispy, betraying the mushy interior where the distinction between vegetables, whether naturally crunchy or soft, was lost in a uniform mushiness, detracting significantly from the eating experience.the veggie dumplings were passable but lacked any standout qualities that might incite a craving or a return visit.culinary expertise appeared absent in the dishes I sampled. creating such fare in ones kitchen, armed merely with a list of ingredients and basic culinary skills, would not be a stretch. dining out represents a desire for more than just sustenance; its a pursuit of culinary delight, an experience that justifies spending beyond the cost of ingredients. unfortunately, the fare at Bodhi Kosher Thai failed to meet these expectations, leaving one to question the justification for such a markup without delivering on taste.in sum, while the premise of Bodhi Kosher Thai holds promise, my experience was one of disappointment. for a venture into the realm of kosher Thai cuisine, the establishment would benefit from a reassessment of its culinary approach to truly honor its price point and its patrons palates.
Prospect Gourmand
105 N Robertson Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
Great Food / Bad Service. It was about 7pm today that I walked into Prospect Gourmand. I had ordered over the phone a few times and this time decided to walked the 20 mins to order at the restaurant. The restaurant looked full but the environment was orderly. I went up to the bar and ordered fries from a young male wait staff. He asked which ones and whether I'd like to look at the menu to order anything else? I said no, just the fries, I've had them before. Then a young woman interjected and said they weren't doing takeaway orders, only orders inside the restaurant. The man said he'd go check with the kitchen then came back to say, sorry. I exclaimed, they're just fries and that I'd walked 20 mins, but he repeated sorry. I felt offended and told him I won't be coming back to have their burgers again, that I'm a customer just as much as these people (referring to the dinner guests), and left. It's a shame because I enjoyed their oat fried chicken burger and waffles. I would understand if they had told me no tables were available but refusing me service was a shock. I felt some type of way for the next 20 mins, until I found another restaurant in the area and bought dinner.
Spago
176 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
I remember this place being better the last time I came here 4 yrs ago. The restaurant is clean and organized. The atmosphere is dark and a bit hectic. Fancy and nice though, had a nice birthday here.Food was ok, good steaks and pasta but the schnitzel was bland. I am used to Korean tonkatsu so maybe thats how its suppose to taste.Overall nice its a nice restaurant but I remember it being better.P.S- Use the Valet parking, the parking structure right next to it is more expensive.
Yazawa Japanese BBQ
9669 S Santa Monica Blvd #2, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
Allow me to preface this review by stating that I know Japanese meat. I grew up partially in Japan and have traveled throughout the country extensively. I've eaten yakiniku more times than I could count. My meal at Yazawa was an absolute disaster.I was in LA for a few days for a show and decided to seek out yakiniku, as there aren't too many places outside of Japan where you can get Japanese beef. A quick Yelp search revealed that my relatively-nearby options were Yazawa and Manpuku. It looked like Manpuku only served US “wagyu”, so I opted for Yazawa, as my entire quest originated from the desire to have Japanese beef. While Yazawa did serve Japanese A4/A5 wagyu (and the meat itself was good), the chef/restaurant/owners absolutely destroyed the meat with sickening amounts of non-optional sauce (the meat - ALL cuts of the wagyu - arrived pre-soaked in the stuff). The omakase began with a 3-dish appetizer, and from the very first bite, I knew I was doomed. The tartare may as well have been tofu or ground beef from Ralph's, because you literally could taste nothing but their nauseatingly sweet sauce - 2 out of 3 appetizer dishes were just hosed down with this stuff - they were indiscernible. An initial bite sets the tone of the meal, but whatever, maybe things would improve. No, no they would not. The first pieces of meat were inexplicably USDA cuts. Nothing special, but not offensive, either. These unremarkable pieces were salted and peppered with no sauce, which is absolutely ridiculous - they overpower the prized wagyu with sauce, yet serve the cheap USDA cuts with an understated salt and pepper, when it's brutally obvious that this should be the inverse. Then came our $200 meager platter of Japanese wagyu for two. And it was positively DRENCHED in Yazawa's Signature Sauce (TM). My partner and I each tried a single bite to give it a chance, and it was terrible. All we could taste was sugar, ginger, and garlic. The sauce was cloying, the meat was woefully undersalted (and quite literally untasteable), and the experience was just depressing. Wanting to salvage something out of this meal, we asked our server to explain this saucing decision and ask if we could perhaps replace the remainder of our meat with pieces that were simply salted and peppered. We were offered nothing more than a trite, bored response of “that's how the omakase comes”. We were never informed, via the menu or the server, that our meat would be sauced to oblivion, and never even given the option to opt for salt instead. We explained that we are well-versed in yakiniku, and the meat was being ruined by this sauce (which we were never informed of), and Yazawa absolutely REFUSED to do anything about it - they wouldn't replace our meat, offer us supplemental cuts, NOTHING. I honestly wished I had just walked out, but I stoically choked down the maple-syrup-coated meat and got the $300 check, whereupon they couldn't be bothered to do so much as remove our drinks from the bill, when we clearly had a horrific experience. They were so unapologetic, it was remarkable.Considering the price and my expectations, this may have been the worst dining experience of my entire life. Only dine here if you like the idea of a business that takes exquisite, difficult-to-acquire Japanese beef and absolutely saturates it in a foul, saccharine sugar-garlic-ginger-shoyu glaze, COMPLETELY obliterating and masking the flavor of the prized meat itself, and then selling it to rich people with no taste or palate, from a Rodeo Drive storefront. Oh, yeah, and they also soak the appetizers in the sauce. They must have buckets of the stuff in the kitchen and apply it to everything in sight with a fire hose.Between the food and service, for what they charge and promise, this was a legitimate 0/5 for me.
SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa
212 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
Quite simply put: The best sushi experience I have ever had!Is it expensive? Hell yes! $150/person + tax, tip & alcohol makes it not for the faint of heart. But it is totally worth it! Its not just a meal...its an experience! The adventure begins before you even arrive. A couple days ahead of your rez, expect an entertaining email that can only come from the Sushi Nazi setting expectations for the evening.Upon arrival, youll be huddling with the other 9 diners who get to be led en mass through Sugarfish to the secret restaurant nestled in the back hidden behind a door marked Staff Only. You cannot help but feel special and excited during this march. As you enter the room, the intentional intimacy is clear with 10 seats nestled close together around Chef Fujitas sushi bar in a sparsely decorated room that sets a clear focus on Chef Fujitas sushi bar.Without much haste, the 2 hour parade of amazing and beautiful food begins. While some courses change depending on whats fresh that day, I understand most of the 20 course menu stays the same day to day. Highlights this night included:Octopus: No question this was the best raw octopus I have ever had (which you get to watch Chef Fujita trim off a monstrously large tentacle...I mean Ursula from the Little Mermaid large)Scallop: I am not usually a scallop fan, but LOVED this! The yuzu sauce it was paired with made it divine!Lobster: A raw lobster nigiri with an amazing buttery sweet tasteKinmedai (golden eye snapper): Also my 1st time having this and I PRAY it is not my last. Amazing taste & texture combination!Chef Fujita is also very humorous and entertaining. He cracks jokes frequently and does a lot to add to the fun of the evening!WARNING: You really must have an adventurous palate to enjoy this experience because there will undoubtedly be items that you have never had before and/or that sound unappetizing and there are NO substitutions what-so-ever.My only complaints are:The wine/saki list could be bigger (only 3 sakis to choose from)The nigiri served on warm rice without compression falls apart too easily (yes...even when dipped properly...fish side down)The pace is a touch too fast. Id like an extra minute or two between each courseWhile it is damn pricy, it actually almost felt like a value considering how much food was served and the incredible quality and preparation of it. My wife and I both left overfull and very much delighted by the entire experience. Nozawa Bar certainly is not meant to be a regular go-to place, but it is definitely worthy of the occasional splurge or for a special outing! While I havent been to all the great sushi spots in LA, I would find it hard to believe that this doesnt sit among the pantheon of them.
