Aria Korean Street Food
1531 Main St Unit #3, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Second time trying this Peninsula location. It was much better this time around, but still a far cry from the City. The glaze on the chicken tasted right this time, but it didnt really have that sticky glaze like it should, just basically swimming in sauce. The chicken itself was lacking on the batter, changing the flavor profile completely, and had NO crisp at all, just mushy chicken swimming in sauce. It was also really small compared to how they stack it up in SF.The Bulgogi Fries on the other hand were a total disappointment. Ive eaten these in SF at least 100 times, and while theres always a range depending on whos cooking and how the meat is cut, this was totally different. The fries were thicker krinkle cut, there was hardly any meat, cheese, or sauce, and the bulgogi steak was a completely different cut, more like crumbles than strips, and had a different flavor all together. When these are prepared correctly you have meat, cheese, sauce, and fries with every bite, and usually finish the fries before you run out of anything else. The first two pics are to show how sparse these were today on the Peninsula, and all other pics are from Aria in SF for comparison.
Seoul Kitchen
2639 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Looking for some Korean food in Redwood city and stumbled across Seoul Kitchen. This place is very casual - not an up market restaurant, but this is reflected in the low prices too. There a very satisfying number of Ban chan selections with the usual proteins, and happily purple rice. The rice can be swapped out with a veggie base if you desire. All this being said, while the food is not super authentic, I was super happy with my choice (Spicy Pork) and I was unable to finish the bowl as the portion size was huge. So to sum up; quick, simple, fresh and great value. I would highly recommend this place for a quick lunch and or a simple evening meal.
Vons Chicken Redwood City
2090 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Ive heard such good things about Vons Chicken, so this place has been on my list of places to try.As much as I want to love this place, I have to be honest. The cashier was very friendly and helpful, which made the service 5 stars. The atmosphere here is quaint and comfortable. They even have an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your meal. Depending on weather conditions, this could be quite enjoyable.Food. I must say that fried chicken is my all-time favorite food ?After perusing the menu earlier in the day, I decided to ha e the crispy fried chicken. Be advised that this takes approximately 30 minutes to cook, per order.Orders are available in half and full size, and you can choose from drumsticks, thighs, combo (drums & thighs), or wings (drumettes and flats).I went with the full order of wings. I added on a mini salad, fries, extra ranch, and honey butter.Total: $54+Salad: nice and freshFries: crispy and tastyChicken: hot and crispy, but super bland. It was truly a disappointment. A touch of salt after frying would go a long way.Honey butter: is in a powder. Way too sweet for my liking.Ranch: Really tasty. Please note that there are other chicken options that come with added sauces drizzled on top.As a fried chicken enthusiast, I opted for the regular crispy fried chicken so I could taste the unadulterated version.I will say that chicken was cooked nicely, but it was just lacking so much flavor. Especially for the price. As mentioned, a touch of salt after frying would work wonders. Brining the chicken overnight would put it over the top.Well, thats my take on Vons Chicken.Oh, if youre eating by yourself, a half order is more than enough.~Chefmattketoish@Friday_night_bites_209
SushiPlus

Very disappointed. A Japanese restaurant operated by Korean. Taste is no good. Shrimp Tempura is just deep fried shrimp, not using tempura batter. Rice for the nigiri sushi was hard, maybe a bit under cooked. My daughter ordered 2pcs of toro sushi, but they came in as aburi toro (fatty tuna lightly browned by flame). Totally different things. If you are looking for real Japanese food, this place will not be able to satisfy you.

Updated review:Came back and its nice to see that they fixed their growing pains. Ordered quick and food and drinks came out in timely manner. Ordered fried chicken sandwich which turned out to be buffalo style which I dont remember seeing in the description. Strawberry cruffle for the kid, a biscoff cruffle for dessert. My sister and friend got the fish and chips and they both really liked it. The cruffles were great. The chicken sandwich was ok I think if I knew it was buffalo I would have ordered something else. Ube milk tea was pretty good too. Overall food is still good and better service now.Original review:Saw this come up as new place on yelp and food looked good. Came here with some friends to try out. Ordered strawberry cruffle, all day burger, kimchee burger, Korean fried chicken, and loco moco. We all loved the strawberry cruffle, that was super yummy, kiddo liked it a lot. I would definitely order that again, not as dense and more like croissant like. The all day burger had a hot link in it which I dont remember from the description but it gave it a nice smokey flavor and the garlic fries were delicious. Kimchee burger was ok, it had fermented kimchee so was a bit sour for me and little hard to bite through. I prefer the all day burger. Loco moco was pretty good too. Fried chicken surprisingly had a kick to it, which I liked. Overall food is good.I think they still have some growing pains since they havent been open that long so theyre not that consistent with cooking things. All of our wagu burgers were cooked differently, med, well, and medium rare. The gravy for the loco moco was to thick. Mind you they didnt ask how we wanted it. I think they are little understaffed as the cashier kept leaving to serve food which left people waiting to order. These all can be fixed and hopefully they iron it out cause the food is good.

Timber & Salt
881 Middlefield Rd, Redwood City, CA 94063, United States
Timber and Salt is a small restaurant in the main pedestrian thoroughfare of Redwood City. It's a little bit more upscale than its fast casual neighbors (though no need to dress up). There's not too much space inside and the decor is timber themed. The bar is very pretty though quite crowded.I have been there a few times now and it is usually pretty good. The smash burger is excellent - sweet, spicy, creamy and salty with a great blend of textures. It's the only burger I've ever had that makes good use of bread and butter pickles. The candied bacon adds a rich decadence. Of other things I've tried, the gnocchi is unremarkable, and the apple cobbler dessert is very comforting. The olives are too salty for my liking.I most often sit at the bar, and the bartenders seem quite experienced. They chisel their own ice, and the cocktail menu is extensive and adventurous. The bartenders are very busy and are not conversationalists - some are somewhat friendly and some are more transactional, but none of them tell stories about the food or drinks, or seem that interested in getting to know people even if they are regulars in the neighborhood. It seems like they are trying to rebrand as a steak house to charge premium prices (you'll notice that the menus in images are quite different than the menu on their website given the shift) - if you are looking for a steakhouse experience, I don't think you will find that here. The restaurant is too small to be grand and too casual in my opinion to merit a “steakhouse” title. My guess is that they're trying this angle because Arya, their steakhouse neighbor, just moved to Palo Alto, so they may see a gap in the market. But I would never buy their $150 steak, because this does not feel like a celebration style restaurant. It doesn't have special occasion vibes - it's a little too dark, busy, and cafe-like - and the service while attentive is not five star.If I could break it down, I would give:Three stars for serviceThree stars for ambianceThree stars for wineFour stars for food
