Roll & Bowl
2302 Encinal Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Originally: ⭐️1starAs much as I tried looking at the positive side I just couldnt.1. They took over an HOUR to make 5 ice cream rolls (okay, not a major issue I wasnt in a hurry and I know its because of Covid but thats not all). 2. There was 3 orders after us, they all got their food before us.3. After that whole hour waiting, we went home to enjoy our ice cream until we noticed we didnt even get what we ordered. They got half of our whole order wrong and the rest had missing ingredients/toppings. And this didnt happen just to me, it happened to a lady before us.4. And finally, I was still going to eat the ice cream because we paid for it, but the toppings had an odd taste. Like if they were old.Overall very bad experience. I never do reviews unless the food is really good (or good service) or If I had a terrible experience. Yall should go to Freezing Point Creamery in Oakland instead (for rolled ice cream and teas)!!! They have Excellent service, its fast, and you get more for what you pay. The food and drinks are soooo good. Sadly its closed but when it opens up, definitely going there again.‼️Update‼️Sept 23rd 2020It has been a month since they contacted me but I just saw their reply to my review. They read my review and responded and were so nice. They offered to replace my entire order for free and I do believe that it couldve been a busy day that day and overwhelming orders. Today it wasnt as packed and busy as it was the day I had went. I called 20 mins prior to order the rolled Ice creams and when I arrived they diligently gave me my order.Overall I take back what I said! This is such a great place for rolled regular or VEGAN ice creams and for quick yummy plates.

The best little NEW udon noodle place in LA. Clean new shop design themed in handsome blue indigo. Menu is noodles galore with exotics. The full range from simple to super deluxe. Nice service staff. Clean satisfying and wholesome dishes. You cannot choose wrong here. Adding shots of their unique decor.Note: the flavoring is Kansai or Western Japan style. Lighter on the soy sauce and more flavorful of the fish broths. Delicate and smooth. Gotta go again and soon!

Alameda Island Brewing
1716 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Alameda Island Brewing Company has a good rotating variety of beers (and a barley wine) on tap. Personally, my favorite (which isnt always on tap, but always available canned) is Sea Haggis, a Scottish Ale. Its a spacious space, so good for larger groups as well as individuals or small gatherings of friends. The brewing process and tanks are clearly visible through large glass windows from the sitting area. They take cash or cards and their bathrooms are impeccably clean (and even have fold out changing tables in the stalls if you bring the little ones). Staff is courteous and friendly and able to answer any questions you may have about their brews. Taste flights are also offered in case you cant immediately make up your mind about what you might want to drink. And...theyre right next door to a good food place and allow you to have the food delivered to the brewery. Bonus! Internet is available and free, so you can bring your work if you want to sit at a table with your laptop/tablet/phone. Theres always some background music playing over the speakers, and its never too loud to overpower your own conversations. My recommendation: come down and check it out, I dont think youll be disappointed. (Mask is required to enter and order... and they clean tables after anyone leaves. )

Speisekammer
2424 Lincoln Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
I was sat by the window in the cozy interior. Lots of tvs show sports games on the walls. A bit loud from everybody talking, and adequate service. The menu was oriented towards pork and potatoes.I started with the pretzel and beer-cheese sauce and kleine nurnberger bratwurstchen, or little sausages on sauerkraut. The sausages came out in 6 with a side of Dijon mustard. They were sized as breakfast sausage. A snappy bite revealed a juicy, oniony interior. The sauerkraut was mildly acidic and sweet, and soft. The pretzel standard in tast, like others youve had before, but was enlargened and airy and pillowy. The chewy pretzel was dipped in a thin cheese sauce, and you should dip your sausages into it as well. The sauce was bittered by the beer, and tasted as if its cheese had been aged: pungent!I ordered the jager schnitzel with spatzle, which was a pork cutlet covered in mushroom sauce on a bed of egg noodles. I got the small size, which I found to be great value and well portioned - not too much. The spatzle and the mushroom gravy were the real stars. Chewy, bity egg noodles were made into a variety of shapes and sizes, giving visual and textural interest. The schnitzel was thin, juicy, and remained crispy underneath the mushroom sauce - very porky. The chunky mushroom sauce was like a gravy cooked with large cubed mushroom. The smaller variant, compared to the main, was one fewer cutlet and half the spatzle, and no side pickled salad. I believe this is the right choice, and its a great value at half off the originals price. I borrowed my friends salad which was an assortment of brined vegetables, including beets, carrots, and cucumber. The pickling was short as the vegetables were sweet and tart. The few and simple ingredients distinguished their own inherent flavors. The jager schnitzel dish was quite varied, and very good.Good atmosphere and simple food to be found here. Id recommend anything with the very substantial spatzle. If small is an option, choose that

BB Bowl

The food is SOOOO DAMN GOOD!!!! The spicy tofu ramen is my go-too order(incredibly flavorful broth, delicious toppings, and noodles were perfect!!). My pregnant baby mama is obsessed with the spicy sweet garlic wings(which also comes with a side of fluffy white rice?).And you gotta try the curry bowls!! Whenever Im sick, I crave their curry bowls since it always make me feel better, are very filling, and highly nutricious!!!Their serving sizes are generous, the prices are great, and food quality is incredibly high!! The dollar-to-flavor/portion ratio is easily the best in Alameda. The owners are a very nice Korean couple and are always friendly and polite to explain the menu!! BB Bowl has quickly become my favorite foodie spot in Alameda. Theres a reason why BB Bowl survived the pandemic while many others have closed down. Its survival of the fittest and BB Bowl is FIT, my guy. No cap?

First time visiting the alameda location! Highlights: service, ambiance, tea leaf salad, coconut rice, samusa soupLowlights: pork belly mustard greens, nan gyi dokTea leaf salad is seemingly good at all locations, the noodles were very bland and texture was off. The samusa soup was delicious...love the lentils and broken falafels. Coconut rice was creamy and pungent, perfect complement or to eat standalone. Pork belly mustard greens just didn’t do much for me. The wait was long but they were friendly about it. Drop a name and number, walk around Park (as there are excellent shops everywhere), and they’ll text you when your table is ready.

Aria Supermarket

Fun little grocery store. They have a few corner shop type mainstream foods, but this place is primarily geared toward Balkan specialties. They make their own meat (and potato) pies on site. They sell sweets from Europe like Milka from Germany as well as a bunch of odd ball ex-Yugoslavia chocs and sweets and Turkish delight (lokum.) There are a variety of interesting savory goods like various types of feta, sausages, olives, egg noodles, sardines etc. Good place to visit for a snack if you live in the neighborhood and get an idea of what they sell.

As a ABC SGV native, this is reping SGV proud. My husband, grew up in LA and not Asian, also LOVED it, said it was his top and favorite restaurant hes been to.This is a 2-3 Michelin Star Level Experience + Food, exactly what I was looking for a birthday dinner.Technically a 1-star for now because chef Jonathon Yao and his chefs are gunning for their second star and it shows in their new menu.To point out Chef Yao is actually there, running the kitchen, prepping/and helping staff, unlike many founder-less Michelin star restaurants weve been to. Hes hands on, and man it was so great to see him there. If it doesnt break your bank, try their dining experience. We came here for my partners birthday. There was a gradual crescendo of feeling warmth through taste not temperature, a round feeling similar to a baritone sound, that built up as I kept tasting their curation, this feeling would stay with us between changes. Maybe its too philosophical, but the feeling reminded me of my parents soup and the warmth it would bring us during difficult times. It was a way they showed love. My husband equally enjoyed this unique warmth feeling in this experience. Its hard to explain but thats what we felt that made it unique. You just have to try it.Plus, each dish felt very creative, flavor explosion, executed very well, and honestly I couldnt imagine this taste experience from even pictures and the menu alone. If you take even the cultural elements away from it, which itself was beautiful, the technique alone was impeccable and very competitive to many 2-3 star Michelin experiences. I didnt know our food can be elevated this way, and it was a very rewarding experience to be able to taste this. My husband loved it all, and the sweet gesture of the card and birthday hamburger!Props to Jonathan and the chefs. There are two add ons available for additional seat, if want to try anything, I highly recommend the Wagyu one for $55. Elevated Char Siu and Elevated Taiwanese Marinated Beef (like the one from beef noodle shop). My non-Asian husband had a very intense positive reaction from the Taiwanese, and I had an intense positive one with the Char Siu. Add on it you can.Another prop, the service staff is amazing. They all have great personalities, professionalism, and seriousness/joy to their own craft. I appreciated everyone. The attention to detail— insanely well done. Finally, a place that has Chopsticks available all times. I didnt have to ask for it. Everyone had it available and it was presented in the center. Some bias to address when I did my research prior and now that lve experienced it first hand: You do not have to be Asian to enjoy these dishes, the food technique alone competes and supersedes many Michelin restaurants weve been to. Dismiss the othering that occurs. I have enjoyed Italian dishes, without saying I had to be Italian to enjoy the food. This applies to many cuisines that I didnt grow up with. Thats why my non-Asian husband loves this place, even though he didnt grow up with this food. Were casual Michelin diners, because we know Michelin has a type, its western, and if there is preference for Asian, its always sushi. Then KBBQ now.Yao and his chefs has opened a door for us in this space, and they know they deserve a spot. They executed. We know that trying to figure out the balance of being Asian American is not only a challenge, but least understood and dismissed. Taiwanese food — amazing! It’s a beautiful country.Historically racist america has looked down on mandarin speaking cuisines in America as cheap, weird, unhealthy, or plain othered all while continually coming back to eat more of our food.Modern times, its changing with our generation. Im glad to see it, and Im glad to see so many allies who understand and are apart of the story. This place invites our culture to be seen in the way it deserves. Elevated. Celebrated. Open. Welcoming. With love. With community. Thanks to all for the wonderful experience.

Lees Donuts
660 Central Ave # B, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Did you know that the proper spelling for a ring-shaped cake made of dough that is fried is doughnut? Apparently someone found the ugh in doughnut to be too long and it was shorten to donut. Well now you know, youre welcome.I come to Lees Donuts for the stuffed jelly donut holes and stay for the breakfast bagels. The shops donuts are like most fried sugary dough, freaking delicious. The fact that the donuts are great is not a big shocker; the fact that Lees Donuts make a great breakfast bagel is awesome. Lees donut places the majority of its focus on its donuts so dont expect a large selection of bagels. I personally enjoy their Everything Bagel with bacon, egg and cheese.Lees Donuts is a small mom and pops shop that carries your standards donut selection (see list below), a large selection of beverages (sodas, juices, milks, coffees, espresso, teas) and of course cigarettes (I dont get the cigarette and donut connection). If you happen to be in the area and in the mood to gain 10 pounds give Lees Donuts a shot.Selection:Cake DonutsOld FashionButtermilk barsFrench CrullerPeanut Topped AssortedFrosted Raised BarsGlazed Raised TwistCoconut Topped donutsCinnamon Crumbs donutsCinnamon RollsDevil food cakesTriple Chocolate donuts
