Mandarin Noodle House
701 W Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91754, United States
A friend and I came here on a Saturday around 5pm, and it wasn't too crowded. Both of the outdoor tables were open, so we sat down and the other one wasn't taken the entire time we were eating. (The outdoor seating is FCFS)We were helped by Denny and Kelly, who were both so incredibly nice & welcoming!!?? This is a family-owned restaurant and for the price you get huuge portion sizes (see pics). I ordered the Zha Jiang Mian & my friend had the Beef stew, I think each bowl was like $9, but a bowl that size in west LA / Santa Monica would easily cost like $12-16?We also had the scallion pancakes, steamed dumplings, & a side of pickled Cucumber Salad and Seaweed Salad. So yummy! (Just remember, this is a Chinese restaurant, so if you're used to Japanese-style seaweed salad, like what you get with sushi, that's more stringy/thin and lighter green, that's not what you'll get— this seaweed is darker in color, and cut thicker)? The food came out extremely fast, and I also loved that the menu had every item in both languages (1 column in Chinese, 1 column in English) which made it super easy to navigate. Not that it's a big deal, but I hate menus that try to cram both languages into 1 line, it makes the whole thing hard to skim quickly.A con about the experience was that because the restaurant is right next to a busy street, there's a lot of noisy traffic / honking horns, and this is just my germaphobic side coming out, but I would assume there's dirt or dust from the busy street that gets blown into your food (esp at the speeds that cars are whizzing by lol)?

When you encounter a restaurant that serves Vietnamese AND Thai AND Chinese AND Japanese cuisine and is open until late at night, that should seriously raise some eyebrows regarding the quality and authenticity of the food. I dont care what you people say; I am sticking to my opinion on this one. I came here with a few friends at night. We waited around 20 minutes for us to get seated, and we waited another 15 minutes or so after being seated to place our orders. We ordered two orders of Spicy Pan Fried Noodles and one order of the garlic spare ribs.I know this is a restaurant that specializes (and I use that term VERY LOOSELY...) in noodle dishes, but the garlic spare ribs was seriously inedible. It was more gristle than anything; I ate about a third of my dish before disgust finally set in and I gave up eating it. The Spicy Pan Fried Noodles was mediocre at best, your choice of chicken or pork with a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and peppers with a copious serving of oil. The only upside to this place is that the portion sizes are quite generous. But who wants to eat a large quantity of unsavory food? Not keen on returning here unless someone REALLY wants to eat here, and Id still try to talk them into eating elsewhere.
Daikokuya Monterey Park

Daikokuya, the power house ramen shop in LA. When we talk about ramen, its the benchmark for any noodles that touches soup. The best part I love about this location is its location. Dont have to drive all to the way to little tokyo to eat a bowl of noodles. And parking is free here. Its a win win. Second thing I love about it is its happy hour. They have Japanese beer on draft. I think its Kirin. And its only $5.50 for the pitcher during HH.In my previous review, Ive stated that their food is great. But I wanted to follow up on that review with a new one. It seems that its been my go to ramen shop for some time now. Yet every time I think about eating ramen, I have to think about that aggravating wait in line. You simply can not coming here and expect to eat immediately. It seems that its almost impossible to get a table for 4+ during rush hour. This place is super small, they should really consider doing take out orders or get a permit and start setting up tables outside. This is [A]-Murica...you cant expect everyone to just eat and go like in the busy life style of Japan. People here are more kicked back. And they want to take their sweet ass time. So do us all a favor and start doing take outs. Ps, we still love your ramen!

Plenty kinds of noodles. Its authentic restaurant. You can pick up the slides and take out. The flavor of tomato soup is rich and sweet. The beef inside is soft and tender. And the volume is soooo big and full. The lamp kebab is also good. The dining experience is good and the food delivery speed is fast. The environment here is clean and bright. It is a large noodle shop with many types of soups to choose from, such as braised tomato soup with oil, pork bones and golden soup. waitYou can choose the type of noodles from thin noodles to wide noodles similar to shaved noodles. There are also a variety of side dishes and drinks to choose from.Tomato Beef Noodles have a strong tomato flavor. There is a lot of beef and it is very tender. The overall portion is so large that two people can eat one bowl. The oil is a bit oily but very fragrant. The mutton skewers are very fragrant and the dipping sauce is also very fragrant. The environment is very clean and bright, and the food is served very quickly. Its a small shop in the plaza but the have great ingredients for shabu. They carry soup base, seasoning, meat, noodles, and other misc items. They dont carry vegetables though. Luckily there is a market across the street for that. The store owners look like a mom and pop and are very nice and helpful. It didnt seem like they spoke much English but enough to be helpful.

Parking was easy during the middle of the week. They do have a lot in the back. Not easiest to see from Garfield but we were blindly following the GPS so thankfully it was correct. Loved our experience there. Billie Eilish on the radio made E happy, and the drinks we ordered being customizable and reasonably priced a Big Win especially with the Wednesday special of buy 2 drinks and get a pastry free. We brought home a chocolate chip pastry for Grandpa so he wouldnt feel left out. Meanwhile E got their Smokey Tea with Tiramisu Foam, Boba and Almond Milk 25% and I got the Unsweetened Matcha Black Sesame with foam, Boba and Almond Milk which was ?.
HiroNori Craft Ramen

The soy sauce ramen is very fragrant, traditional soup, simple and delicious. The barbecued pork and roasted pork are also delicious, the meat is fresh and the side dishes are also fresh. The spicy tsukemen has the flavor of sesame oil, and the dipping sauce is cold noodles with ice cubes dipped in water. The first time I ate it, it tasted very special. The noodles are very chewy and should be made by Kobayashi Noodles here.We don’t have Hakuta ramen at the moment, so I’m looking forward to seeing if the store will introduce new ones in the future. The owner is gentle, polite, and has a nice tattoo? It was the first time I went there and he took the initiative to introduce the dishes. Although there are not many choices at the moment, I will try other places to eat.ps, the shop owner played a song by Nujabes?I hope this store will be discovered by those little red book experts later, otherwise...
Kaiba Japanese Restaurant - Monterey Park

A nice space serving a decent selection of Japanese food. I was in the mood for ramen and didnt feel like waiting outside Daikokuya for 45 minutes. A couple of friends had raved about Kaiba, that it was amazing food and an excellent value. I did not have the same experience. We had some tempura as an appetizer, that was okay, but we anxiously awaited the ramen. Maybe true ramen shops have me spoiled, but a broth made from powder and noodles with absolutely no bite do not make for a quality bowl of ramen. I will certainly stay away from the ramen if I ever go back.

Friendly little noodle shop, lots of rice noodles and regular noodles option. Got the spicy pickled fish rice noodles. The fish doesnt have much taste but overall the dish was good.
Thai House

Ive been coming to this restaurant with my family for over 20 years and have always had a pleasant experience and the food has been excellent, but 2days ago, I had the worst experience ever and I am sad to say, I will no longer come to this establishment. I took my 2yr old and my 9yr old niece to eat here for a special lunch, mind it was really hot outside and we had walked almost 2 miles to get here, to get forgotten by the Asian server. It wasnt busy when we arrived and there were three Asian servers behind the counter and none of them moved a finger to sit us down until one girl offered us a seat. She sat us down and walked away, after 10 minutes she asked us for our drinks. At this point three other group of guest arrived including a white man and she rapidly offered them water and gave them salad before coming back and letting us order food without any drinks yet. I couldnt believe it, the server totally was helping other guest before offering us any drinks and she kept skipping my table. My niece notice it too and of course being pregnant and all I took a stand and told the waiter that she was helping others and had forgotten to give us water, she walked away and minutes later another waiter comes out with water. They had sent other different Asian waiters to serve us, but they all had bad attitude because I stood up. When the food arrive, it was real bad food, the salad had old leaves intertwined with other salad leaves and our rice was cold. I am very disappointed and upset at what has happened, not only that, Im 7months pregnant and if it wasnt for my group being hungry, tired and super hot at the moment, I would of walked out. Nobody apologized and they sent the other waiter that was attending me home or something so that they didnt have to deal with any scenes, horrible customer service, this establishment needs to manage their servers and teach them about customer service and how to treat people, regardless of their background and the way they look, its very expensive here, but its not all that great when you get treated like your not welcome, and Ill be taking my service somewhere else. I do have to say, the Latina server is really nice and she helped us out more than the Asian servers in this location and props to here for her great customer service. The others should learn from her or get a different profession.
