Noodle World Jr.
14622 Ventura Blvd #101, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
Once before a time not so long ago Noodle World was an affordable eat delivering value-minded Asian cuisine. The junior locations are a scaled-down version for an even more casual stop.Dishes here are individually sized and served in takeaway containers no matter whether you decide to dine in or find alternate accommodation. Departure from a communal dining experience, dishes here are limited and really at an average pace for flavors. The simple pleasures of noodles both wet and dry come out of the kitchen quickly and that is really all there is. There is also an overly use of sugar in the dishes. Flavors are not balanced. Rice dishes can be equally discerning. For the neighborhood, this may do exceptionally well, but the value for the seasoned may leave you wondering about alternatives. The service is excellent. The staff is very nice. Most of the business seems to be catering for pickup and delivery though. Parking in the building is expensive, but there is a public lot just across the way from the side street. Otherwise, street parking is an option.
SanSai Grill Sherman Oaks
14350 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
Honestly, I have to begin with the statement that Ive been in the food industry for over 7 years, and I understand all aspects of restaurant culture. With that being said, this has to be one of the worst restaurants that I have ever had the misfortune of eating at. At no other time in my entire life have I experienced food that was so sad, neglected, not known about, or been so disappointed at it being prepared. When I asked about the dumpling soup, I was told it was dumplings and soup. When I saw it get prepared, I saw raw mushrooms being tossed into a bowl of warmed broth, that was then topped with store bought dumplings and then microwaved to lazy perfection. The soup tasted the like miso soup powder that had been warmed from yesterday. The dumplings had a very frozen fresh quality to them. They had no substance to them. The entire experience was not deserving of the title Japanese food. I have been to Japan, and they take pride in their quality and work ethic. This place is a very far cry from the ideals of its claimed original home.

Kinza Sushi Japanese Restaurant
4627 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
I went in following the bevy of high quality reviews. Id argue differently. I ordered four items off the menu, none of which were part of their large listing of Americanized special rolls. Seeing so many special rolls on the menu dissuaded me somewhat, but I stuck to ordering a few basic items: a bowl of rice, a spicy tuna hand roll, a spicy yellowtail hand roll, kampachi nigiri, and Spanish mackerel nigiri. The rice was ok, but it was just a little drier than I would have preferred, but not unsalvageable. The sushi on the other hand was just disappointing. The presentation of the hand rolls was such that the filling was weighted towards the open end, so the last few bites had no fish. The nori wasnt particularly crisp either. The taste was just ok, but it was a spice bomb; there wasnt depth to it.The nigiri shone a bit better because the kampachi was pretty decent. The yuzu/wasabi on it was nice and the fish was alright. The Spanish mackerel was disappointing, and lacked its typical umami flavor. Its especially disappointing because Spanish mackerel is one of my favorite fish. The location was alright, parking was acceptable. The restaurant was clean. The thing which stood out the most was the service. The wait staff was very attentive, and quick. This might be due to the fact the place was half empty on a Friday night. Next time, if I want sushi in the area Ill go to Crave or Nomura. Kinza only gets two stars because the wait staff was good; the food was disappointing in every aspect. Perhaps its better if you like western style specialty rolls; I couldnt say, I didnt try any.
Silverlake Ramen - Van Nuys
5608 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401, United States
Ive been to most all the popular ramen shops across LA.But Silverlake Ramen is still my favorite. ♥ ʕ•ﻌ•ʔTheir creamy broth is amazing. Making me seriously addicted to their ramen. It became my soul food because their unique rich&thick broth is super tasty. I drove to Van nuys from DTLA, getting super excited to try this new place. Of course, it was worth driving! Not only the flavor, Servers greeted us with warm smile . They were attentive, accommodating, welcoming and fast. Great hospitality! The food came at right time even though there was some waiting. I ordered truffle ramen with pork, gyoza, karaage chicken and mushrooms. They were all super delicious. Got me on cloud nine. The truffle broth was garlicky( I love garlic), creamy and rich. Plus, I felt like they put extra truffle oil than other locations. (Yeah, i could tell it)The karaage chicken was so tender & juicy in inside and crispy outside! The mushrooms were an unexpected treat too.I love their new interior design and awesome trendy vibe. o̴̶̷᷄ ·̫ o̴̶̷̥᷅It was a Fun dinner : )This will be the spot to fix my ramen craving!I sure know that Ill be back for some more yummy appetizer and ramen. ʕ•ﻌ•ʔ
The Poodle Puff
14046 Burbank Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401, United States
I honestly don't know who these 10 people are that are writing good reviews but they are not being honest. I have lived by this place for 12 years and have gone to it exactly 3 times and all 3 have been a horrible experience. I'm not someone to write reviews but sometimes you really have to try to help people avoid such a horrible place of business. I have two cats and have taken them both to get their nails trimmed. 1st time was about 8 years ago, the woman that helped me was so rude and asked me to bring my cat to the back and hold her..???? Umm! Why? If I wanted to hold her and help trim her nails I would do it at home and save the $$ I told her I didn't want to do that, please take her to the bck and bring her out when she is done. 2nd time she took my cat and made me hold her in the front office space while she proceeded to trim her nails and tell me how I needed to brush her more because she was sheeding (cats get stressed or frightened, rapid sheeding is normal) She was very condescending. Today after avoiding this place for the last 6 years I decided to give it another chance... maybe that woman was not there anymore, maybe she was having a bad day. I walked in and said “hello! I wanted to get my cats nails trimmed” she automatically gave me a look that I took as I was bothering her...okay! Really? She then once again asked me to open the door that leave it to the back (again, not what I wanted to do but okay!) I wasn't able to open the door because it didn't have a door knob or latch that I could see, she told me again “COME IN” I said “I can't” she walked up to me staring at me the whole way, when she got to the door she said “USE YOUR BRAIN!” ??????? Excuse me!!! Who speaks to a customer in this way??!?!? I said to “No! You do not speak to me that way” and walked out... this place smells bad and looks even worst. Please take my advice and DO NOT go there. This woman doesn't deserve your money.
kai ramen sherman oaks
15030 Ventura Blvd #23, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
I HAVE OFFICIALLY FOUND MY FAVORITE RAMEN SHOP IN THE VALLEY!- Parking -For starters, it is located in the same plaza as some of my other favorites like Sushi Mac. The parking is free for one hour only and if its particularly busy, like lunch or dinner rush, it may be very difficult to find a spot.- Ramen -Theres a good selection of ramen to choose from and I did see tsukemen as an option, which Ill certainly have to order on my next visit! I ordered the Kais white ramen $10.50 and my mom ordered the Tonkatsu classic for $9.00.The broth is so rich and the noodles are thick and cooked to a perfect medium. What I like about their ramen is that there are already so many toppings included, such as a soft boiled egg, dry seaweed, garlic, green onions, and bean sprouts. You can always add more if you like. One gripe I have is that the soft boiled egg isnt as runny as I certainly enjoy having it, but it was still very tasty. The chashu cuts are so thick and juicy with a perfect amount of fat to keep that flavor locked in. Everything came out in perfect portions!- Special offers -On Yelp you get 7% cash back bonus if you have a linked card. They also have a check in offer for a free side of garlic or spicy pickle jar but these are both already free toppings, so I hope they change that promo. They do, however, give you a free dessert in exchange for a review. My mom ordered the almond tofu and I got green tea ice cream. The almond tofu comes in a small ramekin and the ice cream comes in a bowl that is perfect for sharing. The tofu seems to be homemade and it is absolutely delicious! The green tea satisfies a craving, but isnt too strong in flavor. One thing I really like is that they give you garlic cloves in a jar with a hand mincer for you to squeeze into your ramen.- Service -To be quite frank, it was alright. My server seemed to rush us very often even though she was very sweet. She was patient and a decent server so I have no complaints there.- Ambience and presentation -Theres something off about this place and I blame part of it for the lighting and the organization of their store. Perhaps if they invested in dimmed lighting it would work better. I also didnt like the way the store was organized. It felt very off-putting to see a table near the back stacked with cups and pitchers and some plastic shelves on the front. Not to mention that the light up sign for their entrance only says RAMEN instead of its business name. I think presentation and ambience are vital to a restaurant, so they lose a star for this.--Overall, I absolutely enjoyed my visit here. The food is definitely worth coming back for and with their to-go and Grubhub options, I know that they are only a phone call away!
Mulberry Street Pizzeria
15136 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
There is a lot of great pizza in L.A. of all kinds. (and a whole lot of mediocre pizza)...but there is only a very small handful of truly spot-on NYC Pizza joints...the ones where the dough is exactly right and its like you just got a slice in Brooklyn...Mulberry Street Pizzeria is one of those places that will not disappoint if youre looking for an authentic NYC slice (or whole pie!)The staff is always friendly, the pizza is flawless.Branch out when youre in a mood and try a rigatoni slice with actual pasta on it...okay maybe that slice isnt off the streets of Manhattan, but its pretty good anyway. There are a few other L.A. places that are just about as good (in terms of NYC style pizza) but, as far as Im concerned, Mulberry Street is the gold standard.I wish theyd open up a shop up here in the Santa Clarita Valley which is kind of a wasteland where pizza is concerned. Theyd own this area so fast.
Whole Foods Market
14311 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
Poor experience at the bakery today. Placed an order for a cake for my toddler on Friday night for pick up today. Nothing special just a chantilly cake with “happy birthday “ and her name. Her name consists of 4 letters btw. Came to pick up the cake today around 2:45pm and the employee working in the bakery handed me the message written in chocolate in a container which was fine but my daughter's name was spelled wrong. When I told the employee she got argumentative and said well it was spelled that way on the form. I told her no it isn't because I made sure it had been spelled correctly. I asked her if she could just fix it, to which she said no it can't be fixed the “cake decorators” are only here in the morning. All that was needed was the chocolate piping bag to draw a line straight down to make a “c” look like a “k” but apparently that could only be done by the hands of a super skilled grocery store bakery worker. Incapable, illiterate and lazy is what it was. Horrible customer service.
Nomura Sushi Restaurant
14622 Ventura Blvd STE207, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
I was in the valley and wanted sushi take out. Found this spot on Yelp and loved that they had a 15% off coupon for checking in on Yelp so I tried it out. When I ordered on the phone the lady was very nice and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I got there 20-25 minutes later and it was not completely ready but they were very apologetic about it so I didn't hold it against them because it was short and I was able to check out the restaurant. The place is small and on the 2nd floor right when you get off the escalator. They have outside and inside eating. There were only about 4 parties (mostly outside) eating here. I was surprised it was so empty on a beautiful Saturday night. I ordered the spicy edamame, spicy tuna on crispy rice, and a salmon avocado roll with a side of eel sauce to go. I was excited to try the food, the salmon avocado roll was ok and very big. I normally like my seaweed inside of the roll not outside. The fish tasted fresh though. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was good, loved that it came with spicy Mayo and eel sauce. And the spicy garlic edamame was ehh. I'm used to more flavor with it, but maybe it was like that because I got it to go. All in all I'd give the service an A and the food a B. There was nothing special about this place but I would still come back and try something different because the people were really nice, food's ok, it's convenient, and quick. I'll make sure to update this post when I do.And P.S, if you park in the lot in the back, make sure to get your ticket validated. I was in there for 5 minutes and the cashier tried to charge me $3 after he told me I had free parking for 2 hours. But he gave me a pass and said he told me “2 hours free with validation” so now I know for next time
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar
14006 Riverside Dr Suite 24, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
Lets be honest, NOBODY who likes sushi is going to Kura because the food is high quality. Everyone goes for the experience and the novelty of conveyor belt sushi dining. Ive been to the Torrance and Cerritos locations multiple times and tonight was my first time at the Sherman Oaks one. In comparison to the other two locations, this one definitely has the lowest quality fish and also the most limited menu. I went with my best friend tonight and it was her first time experiencing conveyor belt sushi. When we got there and checked in they were on customer 171 and we were number 289. We waited over 2 and a half hours happily and never complained to the staff because its Friday night and understandably very busy. By the time we were seated, it was already way after 9pm but we were still very excited. We finally get seated and before we start with anything I asked our server if it possible for us to have separate checks and he confidently answered yes, they could absolutely give us separate checks at the end of our meal. Perfect, we finally start eating and my best friend is having a great time. Were having fun and finally eating after starving for hours. At the end of the meal, we ask for the check and our server seems to be having a difficult time with putting our checks together and he calls over a coworker (young, early 20s, red headed male) to help him. Let me also mention this is taking place out in the open LITERALLY TWO FEET from us. We can hear and see them. There are NO barriers or walls between us. If I stood up from my seat and stuck my leg out I would have kicked one of them on accident. Now, since another person is getting involved with our bill, it obviously catches our attention and we sit and watch while the red headed male server starts huffing and puffing, heavily rolling his eyes like his soul was leaving his body, shaking his head in annoyance, and complaining about us. After witnessing this literally 2 feet from us, we politely tell them if its not possible and too difficult then we are happy to just split the bill. So the coworker (not our server) comes over and says something along the lines of dont worry we have customers that ask for much worse and difficult tasks. The audacity he had to say that even after we asked to just split it to make things easier made us livid. Had we not been told BY OUR SERVER at the beginning of the meal that it was fine to have separate checks then we wouldnt have even asked at the end of the meal to do it! Even if he realized after the fact that it wouldnt be possible all that had to be said was Hey, Im so sorry but it turns out our system wont allow me to separate the checks that way, would you be comfortable with splitting the bill in half instead? Instead, we got eye rolls and sighs. I understand this is a new location, people are still training and employees are new BUT I would like to think its common sense not to do such outwardly rude things right in front of the customer. So now, we have long waits, mediocre sushi and a spoiled experience. This kind of behavior from employees should not be tolerated by this or any other establishment. I understand perfectly that work is crazy, stressful and Im sure there are plenty of very difficult customers but the complete lack of professionalism in this case is appalling.
