Panera Bread
600 W Huntington Dr, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
As usual, in my opinion, the food is very good and the menu selection is amazing. The pumpkin squash soup special was as good as Ive ever had anywhere in the best of restaurants. And I love the toasted bagel with chicken salad. Unfortunately the place was busy and the kitchen staff must have been overworked because we waited 30 minutes for our order. The atmosphere is fine, nothing fancy, but certainly comfortable and more attractive than just rows of tables. Panera is one of my favorite places.

I love this place! It looks like a little fast food place that wouldnt be that great but i was very pleasantly surprised. The fish tastes super fresh and its good quality. Ive had some bad quality Sushi before so I know. The salmon is super buttery and just melts in your mouth. I also love how its really casual and you dont have to be scared of the prices like any other Japanese restaurant. Last time I came here I ordered the teriyaki chicken and the salmon and avocado roll... And it was bomb! This time I tried the sushi combo bowl which is salmon and spicy tuna over sushi rice and I ordered a miso soup on the side which was great as well. I would definitely come here over and over again if I worked in the area.

K-Chicken & Beer

Check in: Check in on Yelp if youd like a free choco-pie!Parking: Parking can be tricky on the weekend, especially during dinner times. There is free street parking. You can try your luck with parallel parking, but we parked in the Vons lot and walked over.Ambiance/Environment: We came here to celebrate one of our cousins birthday. We wanted to dine somewhere casual with a fun ambiance. Music isnt too loud. This restaurant is also great for large groups. They have plenty of tables and bar seating.Service: I failed to catch our servers name, but he was amazing. He checked on us a couple times and constantly refilled our waters. I asked if they did anything special for birthdays, and unfortunately they do not. But at the end of our meal, our server surprised my cousin by decorating the choco-pie with whip cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Such a thoughtful gesture! What we ordered:1) Boneless chicken half & half lemon pepper and honey garlic - The boneless chicken was cooked throughly. I felt the lemon pepper couldve been seasoned a bit more. It tasted as if it was slightly seasoned with lemon pepper. The honey garlic was delicious; it tasted exactly as it sounds and not too sweet.2) K-spicy ramen - I was very shocked with the price $11.95. This is a good amount for one person. This is very basic ramen with the usual garnish and add ons. The soup wasnt too spicy in my opinion .. depending on your definition of spice.3) Bulgogi Fries - Id prefer more bulgogi, but this was my favorite dish! The fries were crispy, the egg was cooked well, and the bulgogi was savory!4) Sweet Potato Pizza - My cousins completely devoured this pizza, so I didnt get a chance to try it. But since it was gone in 5 seconds, I assume they enjoyed it and it was their favorite.5) Mozzarella Sticks - If you never had fried mozzarella, this is your chance. Fair warning on the endless cheese pull.Pricing: Prices are pretty $$$ average nowadays. We were excited for happy hour @3-6, but disappointed to find out they dont honor happy hour on holiday weekends. We visited on a Saturday of Memorial weekend. Other than that, we were able to share everything we ordered. Portions are large enough.

Jakes Roadhouse
622 S Myrtle Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Arrived 5:35pm on Sunday 19 DEC and it was moderately busy inside. staff were all masked and other than taking orders and delivering meals maintained their distance from others.I was seated promptly (table for 1) and the lady immediately took my drink order before she left the table. Moments later another gentleman asked if he could get me a drink and I indicated the lady took my request for water just moments ago but could I also have a Passion Tea. Sure enough it was on the table in minutes. My server came a minute or so after that and took my order, paying close attention to my requests and repeated my order back to me to be certain…spot on my friend…(1/2 rack baby backs w/sauce on the side and a baked potato w/butter & bacon bits if they had them, and some coleslaw, please and thank you).Dinner was on the table, exactly as ordered in 11 mins from ordering!Dinner was delicious! Ribs done just right; easy enough to get them off the bone and full of good charred flavour. A touch of sauce on the side and they were perfect. The “bacon bits” that went on my baked potato was nothing shy of 2 thick cut strips of bacon…no complaints here! Coleslaw was tangy and creamy…if I have to eat coleslaw this is the way I like it!Service was incredibly attentive throughout my stay with water/tea refills being offered frequently and regular trips past the table had various servers and other staff asking if everything was good. A+ for attentiveness to the customer.Meal was moderately priced (quite reasonable for what I received) and I'm glad I ventured away from a typical chain restaurant for dinner. My fist time in Monrovia and my first dinner out in this area…definitely did not disappoint.Well done Jake's Roadhouse … I'll definitely be returning. Thank you and merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!

Thai Thyme

Lovely restaurant in the heart of Monrovia. Large portions, excellent options, and authentic taste. The tom yum soup is fire, Thai teas solid, and the drunken noodles (spice level 4/5) were fuego. Don’t sleep on the green curry either! Reasonable prices too, and therefore I’ll definitely be back in the future.

Sushi NAKATA
108 E Lime Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Newly opened Japanese restaurant. Great sushi and Japanese with very friendly waitress and owner. Small gem tucked in downtown Monrovia. My friend introduced me to this restaurant and he told me that the sushi is best he had so far in the San Gabriel Valley. I had their special roll, Nakata roll which is a combination ell and California roll. I liked it as the sushi rice is done right and the flavor is fantastic. The chef also specially made a bowl of udon noodle with tempura for me. The taste of the soup is just out of this world and tempura batter is thin and crispy yet the shrimps and vegetables are moist inside. I will be back to try other dishes

SOMETHING HEALTHY CAFE
1014 S Shamrock Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Review from 2010.I decided to try this place for lunch today and Im glad I did! The restaurant is located in an awkward place where its in between Churchs Chicken and 24 Hour Fitness on Shamrock street. I didnt really take a look too much at decor and such only because I was famished and couldnt wait to get my grub on. All I remember was that it was clean. So I walked up and and asked the cashier what was good and she was helpful to give me some ideas. I ended up getting a half sandwich and soup. I really didnt want to eat too much since Ive been watching my portions lately. I ended up getting the Sun-dried Tomato Turkey sandwich and Tomato Basil soup. They were both really good. The Sun-dried Tomato Turkey sandwich had avocado, alfalfa sprouts, sun-dried tomato spread, butter lettuce on sourdough bread. Everything about this sandwich is just really good! It definitely tasted light and that was something that I wanted. I hate eating the heavy stuff and making me feel like *ish the rest of the day. The Tomato Basil soup was creamy and good. It was definitely the perfect portion for lunch. I do plan on coming back possibly even tomorrow and trying other items from their menu or I might just order the same thing because it was just that good! There is something that I recommend them improving and that is to put fun upbeat hip music to kind of get the staff going. They all seemed a bit calm and not as happy. Customer service would be even greater if they seemed a bit more upbeat and smiling more. Id also like to see that the cashier be a little more informative about what makes their store unique as opposed to other sandwich shops. I honestly didnt know that they make their own dressing, sauces, and spread. They should also mention that they only use cholesterol-reducing unsaturated oils. I think that is important to tell newcomers. I actually found out after bringing my lunch back to the office and looking at the brochure I took with me. This place has a lot of potential.

The Diplomat Eatery and Tavern
109 E Lemon Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Unfortunately, at 70 the way I see my birthday is with the usual disappointment. This year was different. My best friend Robb took me to an amazing dinner on the 22nd at Aqua Vita part of the complex I live in in downtown Los Angeles called The Grand LA. I wish I could tell you how delicious the food was because everyone was raising, but unfortunately, I was sick that day and literally had no flavor in my mouth. the food was. We went to see funny girl after that, and although I didn't feel my best, I was thrilled at the production and the cast. But let's go back to Monrovia. Robb thought it would be a nice place for us to meet and walk through the charming town that Monrovia is. It's like stepping into a different time not better or worse just different and I guess the difference is what makes it so special. We ended up eating at the diplomat, it was by chance. By then I was back on the road too, and could taste my food again. Head boy I was real. The place doesn't look that great but that this restaurant and the customers that make such a wonderful Ambiance to visit. Robb mention that the day we were there was an actual birthday and they went out of their way to make these feel special and it wasn't cheesy. all the food we ate was delicious and our server was amazing. Grounded at the end of the dinner they brought a plate covered in petals with two pieces of balaclava were flat by a candle. The staff sang happy birthday to me. What a wonderful way to spend your birthday. I don't take pictures of food, I think that's a function of my age, but if I were of that, I would be posting some really beautiful plates of food. I think the staff at the diplomat for making my birthday really special. And then there is Robb. He makes every day that he's been in my life a birthday. He has been an amazing friend, and I am always grateful that the universe brought us together.

TK Cafe & Hawaiian BBQ
158 W Foothill Blvd, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
TK Cafe Hawaiian BBQ in uptown Monrovia provided a satisfying experience all around. It's a small family-run counter serve operation with great Hawaiian inspired plate lunch comfort food, especially for meat lovers. The place is tucked in a corner of the Vons mall at the southwest corner of Myrtle and Foothill, so plenty of free parking. The chef and manager Ken took my order and was very friendly and helpful to recommend certain specialties on their menu.I ordered the Chicken Combo (BBQ Chicken and the crispy Katsu Chicken) and the Hawaiian BBQ Mix (BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, and substituted Teriyaki Chicken in place of Kalbi Beef). Both plates come with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of Mac Salad. See images.Their BBQ Chicken is definitely a specialty, flavorful, and both combos I received were a generous serving of the moist and flavorful chicken.I would go back the next time I'm in the mood for Hawaiian plate lunch and would recommend 5 stars compared to other local counter serves in Monrovia.

Le Roys
523 W Huntington Dr, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Leroys has an awesome vibe. Ive never gone because theres always been a line out the door on the weekends, but I finally pulled the trigger on a weekday. The place is definitely busy and cute, kind of old-fashioned and cool.I hate to do this but Im trying to keep it real. I am certainly not trying to bash this business. I was charmed when I first walked in the door.Having said that, the first thing I spotted as I waited to be helped, was a breakfast portion that was insanely large, a literal pile of eggs potatoes and chili on a plate. It was huge. The gentleman sitting with that breakfast was just about to get started to eat.We waited only a minute or two, for our table, and when it was cleaned we walked back, sat down, ordered, and ate our breakfast. A breakfast pancake combo and an vegetarian omelet.By the time I came back to settle the tab at the register beside the man I first spotted when I walked in, I look down and the gentleman, rightly so, had carefully carved out only 1/4 of his food, as clearly that was enough for his breakfast. 3/4s of the food remained after probably 45 minutes or more. it confirmed my feeling, and kudos to the man for knowing his limits and restraining himself from trying to eat more.Ive never seen such big portions. The sheer amount of food Leroys serves to individuals, and other old-school restaurants like it, is why so many people that are unhealthy in our society. As for my meal, it was heavy and I left feeling to full, even after making sure I didnt finish the whole thing.Leroys could cut their portions, easilt by 60% and reduce the price by $1, probably only a 10 to 15% reduction, and not only increase profits, but help their customers not to over gorge themselves in the process. Patrons would still feel full and satisfied.I also found the restroom to be filthy. If I owned a place like this Id make absolutely sure that every one of my employees pick up any piece of trash or clean up any mess they spot on-site....Maybe its because the restroom is located outside of the restaurant but I dont think thats an excuse. If anything thats more of a reason to clean it twice as often. My main beef with Leroys is the food portions, I dont expect them to serve the best quality ingredients, as its not that kind of place. If you continue to serve outrageous portions to the public, you are doing them more harm than good. And please keep your restroom clean and grafitti free. The main dining room was fine. However, I dont think Ill return again.
