Panera Bread
1348 Bison Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
My friend N.P. was craving Paneras flatbreads, so we headed here for lunch along with her mum when I went to go see them. Located in a large plaza, theres plenty of parking, but not necessarily near the entrance if youre going during a busy time. In case youve never been to a Panera Bread before, you order at the counter and they give you a table number. You display that number at your table and when your food is ready a server will bring it to your table along with utensils. The staff here was quite nice and friendly, so that was good.I utilised their YOU PICK TWO combo, where you get to select two of the following: Half Pasta, Cup of Soup, Half Sandwich, Half Salad, One Flatbread. I opted for one flatbread and half salad. What they dont mention in the menu is that this combo comes with either a bag of potato chips or a portion of a baguette. I went with the baguette since I miss bread (so good!).BBQ CHICKEN FLATBREAD SANDWICH: Antibiotic-free, smoked, pulled chicken, frizzled onions, mozzarella, smoked gouda, fresh baby spinach and cilantro with BBQ sauce on freshly baked flatbread.-- Sounded so good, but the execution was lacking. There was just one dollop of BBQ sauce in the flatbread, and that was in the very middle bottom of it, so all but two of my bites were BBQ-sauce-less. As if the dry chicken wasnt enough... so this flatbread ended up being super dry for me.STRAWBERRY POPPYSEED & CHICKEN SALAD: All-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, romaine lettuce, fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and mandarin oranges and pecans with fat-free poppyseed dressing. (I got mine without pecans)-- The chicken here was also dry. They just dont cook the chicken well here it seems. But the rest of the salad was good. I appreciated all the fruit in the salad and I really liked the poppyseed dressing.BAGUETTE-- What can I say? Bread is delicious. This baguette was great. Just had to ask for butter, which I thought was weird. Who doesnt like their bread with butter?NP and her mum both got flatbreads and had the same complaints. NP said their flatbread last time was really good, so the kitchen must just be having an off day. I hope so... giving them the benefit of the doubt raises my 2.5 star review to a 3.

FABULOUS SERVICE ! My wife and I are big fans of Siam Station so another visit to this new location was on the cards. We arrived just before 2pm and parked right in front. Straight after we headed inside we met Emma the manager and Ellie one of the chefs. WE WERE STARVIN ! Emma brought us menus and we asked for cold waters. We kicked things off with a Potsticker Appetizer ( love em ) and a Thai Iced Tea to share. MAINS ! My wife had to have the Pad Woon Sen ( glass noodles, stir fried with garlic sauce, egg and mixed vegetables ) with Shrimp ( $3 ) and I ordered Kua Kai ( flat rice noodles, stir fried with egg, bean sprouts, green onions ) with Crispy Pork ( ($3 ). Our Potsticker Appetizer hit the table at lightning speed followed quickly by our Thai Iced Tea to share....nicely divided into 2 large plastic cups. And it all tasted great. Soon after our main meals arrived...huge beautiful looking serves. I had never tried Kua Kai before...very soft flat noodle. Sadly the Crispy Pork add on was chewy pork belly...not my thing ! On the other hand my wife was over the moon enjoying her glass noodles and huge shrimp. HARD TO BEAT !

5 stars isnt enough. I was walking with my grandma to go to the nail salon down the street but it was closed so we decided to stop for some food and this place was open. We went inside for something simple and were greeted by very friendly people who told us a lot about the food and helped us decide on what we wanted. We sat inside and quickly given water and a lentil soup that was delicious. The restaurant itself is very nice and Im a little upset that it was so empty while we were there because of how great the food was. We ordered the vegetable mo:mo (dumplings) and the rice pudding. Both were delicious and the dumplings were very filling and came with a mint sauce and a citrusy sauce (I dont remember what theyre called). Rice pudding had coconut and Im not usually a coconut person but I loved the pudding and the coconut wasnt overpowering at all. This is definitely going to become our go-to place when were in the area, especially because the prices are so good for what youre getting.
Kokiyo - Newport Beach
4525 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
Geez..... what do I have to say about this place. I was really excited to try this place out due to some buzz on TikTok, boi this was the biggest let down I have ever experienced. We went on May 15th around 7p.Upon arrival we did not receive a greeting or nothing; although they did have a substantial line and were pretty busy. To order they expect you to place your own order at a kiosk, which is no problem I dont mind but if thats the case orders should be flying out to the customers. Nah nah nah nah...... they thought a 45 minute wait was okay. No apology or acknowledgement of the wait, okay Ill take it. But if you are going to make me order myself and wait 45 minutes this food better be bussin bussin. Nope DOG WATER. There were a total of 4 workers working but only 2 struggling in the kitchen 1 of which was the owner. Im just saying but if I have a line out the door and were are in the middle of a rush wouldnt you want all hands on deck and not 2 workers in the back doing god knows what?We ordered 1 Creamy Ramen w/ Chashu and 1 Clear Ramen w/ Chicken, and finally potstickers. To start with the Creamy ramen it was not creamy..... and the broth tasted bland and like pork water. No depth of flavor and barely any salt. Im sure dog water probably had more flavor than this. Noodles trash. Ramen noods are supposed to be nice and curly with some chewiness to allow for the broth and aromatic oils to be scooped up as you eat. Bruh these were like spaghetti noodles ahhh heck no!!!!! Clear ramen was worse. This ramen was on another level of bland. Now on to the potstickers; I wouldnt know how good they were since they ran out. When we placed our order we didnt know that they were sold out if I knew I wouldnt have ordered them. Upon recieving my order we were not told as well. So they were going to take our order and not offer an apology or acknowledgement hmmm sus. On top of that when I brought this up to THE OWNER he said he would refund and continued to apologize profusely. I dont want an Im sorry I want you to be better. It is May 22nd and I have yet to receive my refund on potstickers. Im not pressed about the money, Im pressed about the experience. The last point I want to make is that this place has a total of 3 items on their menu. If thats the case you would think these 3 would be exceptional. We tried both types of ramen and they were lackluster and we didnt receive potstickers so if 2/3 of your menu was not great then what does that say about your establishment and at that point what excuse do you have for a 2/5 stars. This place has potential to be a great hole in the wall which I see from the great review but suffers from poor organization, lack of customer service and flavor. Plenty of my concerns would be disregarded if the ramen was bussin bussin or the customer service was amazing. But nah. 2/5 Ill be back May 15th 2025 to give them another shot but until then I stick with Hiro Nori and Kitakata Ramen.
Molo
251 Shipyard Way, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
We just found out that Molo opened last week on Tuesday as we talked to Andy, our server. What a great find of an authentic Italian restaurant in Newport Beach.Last night’s dinner was sooo wonderful. From the two owners to the wait staff.Lots of parking and the tables outside had heated lamps everywhere. Never felt cold. Now the food is beyond good. I was just in Italy last year and it is so authentic and delicious. The food came out hot - not just warm. Such a pleasure when that happens. The chicken parmigiana was crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. The red sauce is to die for. Delicate and flavorful. The braided short ribs were sliced thin and did not taste overly rich. They hit the perfect balance of light and rich for the gravy. I never knew you could do that for short ribs which is always too rich. The tiramisu was also perfect.I liked the vegan soup very much. Plenty of vegetables. Do ask for some shaved cheese on top because it really elevated the soup. The flatbread and pizza, we are told, are the same thickness. It’s just the shape of them! Their version of the margarita pizza had shaved cheese that melted in your mouth. Again the perfect balance between creamy and rich. The meatballs were also perfection. The right texture and so flavorful. And the sauce with some peas were perfect too. This place is over the top excellent. Highly, highly recommended. We had a blast. Staff were so polite and the two Italian owners and the Italian chef really hit it out of the park.
The Dock

It was a very good meal. We always share everything and usually get a few first course dishes, one or two seconds, depending how we feel after the few firsts and then one dessert. We started with the Japanese Hamachi Sashimi, which was really fresh and had incredible flavor. Loved the passion fruit miso dressing. We then moved onto the Crispy Kurobuta Pork Belly The flavors were really good, but the pork belly itself was overcooked. I personally would of executed the cooking of the pork belly differently, but keep everything else on the plate the exact same. The combo of the coconut foam and charred pineapple was awesome. I think it could use some macadamia nuts for texture, but it was still a great tasting dish. The Charred Little Gem salad was a nice precursor to our main dish. Our main was the Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast. The duck was tender and perfectly cooked. The gnocchi was a little mushy, but pairing it with the Davao beans help balance the texture. Like the balsamic figs and the slight sweetness it gave the dish.We finished with the Brioche Bread Pudding. We were planning on getting the molten chocolate cake as well, but we were so full that we had to decide on just one dessert and we definitely made the right decision going with the bread pudding. It was the best thing we ate all night. All the components were simple in theory, but they were perfectly executed. Could if eaten a couple of these if we weren't so full. To bad you can't really come here for an espresso and one of these.Overall, we really enjoyed the meal, service and amazing location.
Zabb Thai Cuisine
4001 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
Okay, Ive been eating here for over a year now and can still confirm that their soups and curries are top notch! Tom Kha, Tom Yum, Red/Green/Panang Curry - all amazing! I still do not enjoy their noodle dishes. While the food is amazing, they do struggle with some consistency issues. For example, they have not earned my complete trust when it comes to takeout orders. Ive gotten home one too many times with something wrong in my bag, so I always peek at what was packed before leaving now. Also, their spice levels are all over the place. I order Medium Spicy everywhere, but once we got a Ka Pow (Basil Chicken: medium) that was SO spicy I could not eat it. It hurt too bad. Im not sure if I was given the wrong one (i.e. someone else ordered a spicy Ka Pow and it got mixed up) or if they just had a heavy hand and made it crazy hot that night. Due to the disappointment of not being able to even eat my meal (again, I order takeout - was not in the restaurant to fix the issue), I have started ordering everything Mild. It works out because some dishes get home and still taste Medium, butttt others are completely bland (aka they actually made it mild). Thats why I cant give 5 stars. The food is great, for sure! But the inconsistency and mistakes drop it a notch. Also, their entree prices have gone up $1-2 (on average) since November. Ohhh, one more thing to note is they started valet parking. They have a lot right beside the restaurant (which is usually not full when Ive visited), but want to park cars as close together as possible in there. It seems really unnecessary and especially during Covid when we were wearing masks and sanitizing like crazy - they want someone inside your personal car...ehhhh. Just wanted to give that heads-up to all the introverts because Im sure youll find it as awkward as I do. Definitely recommend Zabb, but with some hesitations.
American Legion Post 291

The legion is awesome respect for the military men and women presented there is well-deserved there should be more places like this that being said the city is being very inconsiderate to this piece of property constantly trying to take it over and attack it. Theyve tried to build a hotel there multiple times with the city pushing Disneyland on Newport Beach and the people there to live there fighting it.City has turned parking over to a third party which is not allow 8 hour parking. Which means it makes it very difficult to go out sailboat racing after all this is a yacht club and one of their main things is sailboat racing but I cant park my car long enough to be able to make it out the mouth of the harbor do the race and come back without getting a ticket on my car this is so inconsiderate of the city or maybe its on purpose another way to try to drive the yacht club out of the area so that they can build what they want their draw your own conclusions. But living in Newport Beach for over 16 years now the new parking meters did not allow me to get 8 hours sleep and is starting to affect my health we need to draw together to make the city understand that what theyre doing actually could be against the law preventing me from getting 8 hours sleep seeing how they at put parking meters everywhere
Cafe Sakana
1703 Westcliff Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
Went here because a friend of mine recommended it. I love sushi and this place seemed really good.I think one of the people who served us was named Jay. He was super helpful and explained the menu to us. We ended up getting the Ocean and the Ocean Blessing sets, as well as the Salmon Fresca. The fish was very fresh and high quality. Our server also took the time to explain each of the pieces of fish. Presentation was amazing, you can tell that the chefs not only care about the quality of food, but also the way it looks, which I think adds to the experience. Honestly it was one of the best omakase sets Ive had in the OC. Ive had sushi in Japan as well and this place is definitely comparable. We also had hot green tea, which our servers were kind enough to keep our mugs filled throughout our meal. For dessert we got the green tea ice cream as well as the green tea mochi.Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Food quality and service were on point. It wasnt too busy but even if it were, you can tell that they emphasize service here.My friend and I even stayed late chatting and they didnt bother us even after they started closing. We were so appreciative that they were very thoughtful and didnt kick us out.Highly recommend this place for any sushi lovers.
Hook & Anchor
3305 Newport Blvd Ste. A, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
I had seen a review of the Hook & Anchor a few weeks ago, and since I was on my own this weekend (daughter was at church camp), I thought Id give it a try.As you enter the restaurant, you realize that you can order at the counter or just take a seat, and a waitress will get to you. There are only half a dozen tables and one super long table for large groups. This is a first come, first served setup. I intended to get my order to go, so I ordered what the location is known for, the lobster roll and fries, but then I added a side of veggies as well. The roll comes in two variations, the 4oz. Or the 6oz. Keep in mind, the pricing is based on daily fish prices, so its not cheap, $30+ for the 4oz., $58 for the 6oz the day I went. Id recommend the 4oz. for your first time unless you luv Lobster and dont mind spending that much for a sandwich. Since it was my first time, I went all out with the 6oz.The sandwich itself, I must admit, is pretty damn good. Its served not on a standard roll per se, but on what is more like a Kings Hawaiian roll for hotdogs. Its grilled, so they outside is crispy and a little buttery. The inside is so stuffed that its almost like they use an ice cream scooper to fill it. There is much delicious ? goodness. Now, they also offer a tangy mayonnaise style sauce, but Im not sure its needed.I was very impressed with the sandwich, but the veggies left me wanting by comparison. Maybe that side can be rethought so it does not diminish the sandwich. Now that I have experienced the sandwich I can say definitively that the 4oz is the call, unless your really hungry.I sit here stuffed writing this review, and Im content with the experience and the food ?. If you like Lobster and want to try something new, this should be a bucket list destination.
