Spice & Rice Kitchen
7734 Girard Ave C, La Jolla, CA 92037, United States
My family and I were visiting San Diego and went to Spice & Rice for dinner. I used to work here when I lived in San Diego from 1997-1999. The food was great back then. However, it was a different story when I took my family this time around. We order 2 Thai Teas and a Thai Coffee. Those were fine, it was the entrees that were the most disappointing. My 3 kids orders 2 Pad See Yous ($10.95 ea) and a Pad Thai ($10.95), my husband ordered a bowl of Tom Kha chicken ($5.95), and I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Salad ($14.95). The Pad Se Yews and Pad Thai were grossly bland. All you tasted were the rice noodles. Thai food is supposed to have a good balance of saltiness, sour and sweet, and at times, some spice. These entrees did not. It didnt seem like they used any fish sauce at all in the noodle dishes, which in turn made the sweetness from either the sugar or the sweet soy overpowering. As for the soup, it tasted like pure coconut milk and nothing else. Thai soups especially are supposed to have bold flavors. The Tom Kha is supposed to be sour, salty, spicy and sweet at the same time. All I tasted was the coconut milk, and the sweetness from that. Not much else. My shrimp salad was probably the only dish that had any flavor, but the shrimp was extremely overcooked. Grilled shrimp should still be tender and juicy. These were tough and rubbery. Overall, I was extremely disappointing. We paid $186 for an extremely disappointing meal. I did not complain to the waitstaff about the meal because after he took our order, he was pretty absent. He came back maybe once to check in on us. I had to flag down other waitstaff to ask for more rice and to get our waters refilled. As a rule of thump, you should at least check back at your table right after they take their first couple of bites, so that you can attend to whatever concerns or needs they have right away, then maybe a couple of times later to ensure that they acknowledge your presence and know that you are available. We had to flag other waitstaff down to get our food boxed up and to order our desserts. We ordered 2 Sweet Rice and Mangos. The pandas flavored sweet rice was alright. They obviously microwaved the rice again after having prepped it ahead of time because there were areas of the sweet rice that were over cooked and tough. It is fine to rewarm sweet rice in the microwave, I do it all the time at home, but dont do it so long that it causes the rice to harden in certain areas. All in all, the food was bland and the service mediocre. I would not waste my money at Spice & Rice. Everything here is pricey, so think long and hard before you end up spending $12 on a sub par noodle dish or $15 to eat overcooked shrimp.
Blue Pepper

I dont understand why this place had such bad reviews. Look down at those comments - Nobody didnt say which plates or what kind of food that they got. I work here for 5 years and Hithai is the place that I go eat with my friends almost everyday. Pork Chop is the best. Panag curry sandwich is the best too. Also, Thai Tom Yum Noodle Soup and Egg Noodle BBQ pork are my favorite ones. What are you complaining about the price or service? These are only 5 bucks dishes and togo order only.Do not say anything if you have just ordered Pad Thai with your limited knowledgeable about Thai food and you didnt like it. This place has so much things that delicious and healthy. If expect to get great atmosphere why dont just go to La Jolla- Garnet st or Pearl St there are lot of Thai food restaurants there and youll end up spend $30-50/person. Pad Thai dishes there, average prices are $9-$12.Ill vote this place for 5 stars for their delicious food and friendly service - Stan- He is the great manager and his staffs are very friendly.

Macys
4333 La Jolla Village Dr, San Diego, CA 92122, United States
This review is for Tag a longtime sales associate in the UTC Mall who works in bedding.I went to the mall to return pair of shoes that I ordered online inside to pop upstairs to check out the hotel linr that Ive been eyeballing for years, but is way out of my price point even on a regular sale. Black Friday they had a 65% off which was itself was great but still getting all new bedding was going to cost me about $900. I was eyeballing the duvet when Taj asked me if I needed help oh, I had a couple of questions and he answered them honestly and offered me more information than I expected. Then he then talk to me about the sheets and the differences and sheets and took me to multiple brands that were different prices, then he led me the down comforters and answered all my questions there. I was more than sold but had decided I was going to go home and think about it. He also told me if I didnt have a Macys card that I could get one and Ill get an extra 20% off. The next day I went online calculator my cost and could purchase everything online but decided he had been so helpful I was going to go back and buy from him. As soon as I walked in to the store on Monday he was the first person to greet me. I told him I was happy he was there intern he told me he was happy I was there. He took the exact same amount of time to grab me the things that I wanted in the intern Associates ask him to help other customers. He was able to get those other customers help without disturbing you in a moment of our time together. Of course I knew that buying everything that he suggested and an extra pair of sheets. He was fast and helpful informative and while he was checking me out another man got in line and said that he was specifically waiting for Taj help him and that Taj was great and he deserves a raise, I couldnt agree more. If it had not been for Tosh I would have not purchase the hotel collection. I was able to get everything that I wanted just about $600, I couldnt believe it I finally have my Hotel Collection that aint that I wanted for years at a price I could afford. I would not have purchased the wedding had it not been for Tag. He knows his bedding and is so helpful. I hope he does get a raise. If you are wondering I went home with pillows he suggested and I dont think Ive ever slept so well in my entire life. I woke up once and realize that Ive gone to bed and my body hadnt moved the entire night. I am more than grateful for his help in his insight.
Lemongrass Southeast Asian Cuisine
9700 Gilman Dr, La Jolla, CA 92093, United States
Easily the best place to eat on campus. Its all about the lemongrass chicken and the peanut sauce. Thats what made them a hit at the farmers market and its what they do best.I always get the wrap with chicken. Plate is also good but I prefer the tortilla to the rice. I wouldnt recommend the Pad Thai. The Thai tea is great. I dont bother with the other menu options, which seem to generate the most complaints.Been eating here for years. I enjoy it every time. Consistent quality, and it never gets old.Big thumbs up solely for the grilled chicken with peanut sauce and the Thai tea.
