Cha-Ya
1686 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94709, United States
I went to Cha-Ya tonight and was very excited to find a place that has vegan and vegetarian food.Looking at the menu guessed there will be sesame seed in some of the food they makeAsked our server before ordering if they could keep an eye on the ingredients and watch out for any sesame seeds or sesame oil as I am deathly allergic to it.Our waitress assured us that there will be no sesame seeds/oil in any of our food since we were all sharing...3 out of 4 of our food came first and when finally my food came in to the table we were all done with our food and I found so many seeds in the food :-|When brought to the waitress attention she acted very annoyed and careless and then let us know that there is no way they could separate the seed from the food and that probably there are seeds left on the cutting board...I am very disappointed and upset for the fact that they couldve let us know from the beginning. so I could decide about staying or leaving before ordering so then l wouldnt have to deal with my allergies and having to go to ER ( apparently the food we also shared had sesame seeds in it )The service was below average and the waitress was forgetful... we ordered extra ginger and we never received it and we waited for the bill for over 20 minsVery disappointed- wont come back to this place ever again...

Long Life Vegi House
1725 University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94703, United States
What a great restaurant. The employees are so.nice and always remember the customers. The veggie meat dishes are fabulous. I t hard to tell this is not real meat. So many options. The lunch specials are so reasonable, the soup is great and the lunch specials are available seven days a week. Dinner is also reasonable with a side of soup and rice added for a dollar each. What a great place to take your vegetarian or vegan friends. Because the fare is either veggie or seafood it is a good place for guests the have a kosher or halal diet. I love the clay pot nappa cabbage and the veggie Mongolian beef. The restaurant recently relocated to a sharp new location a block and a half below Martin Luther King. This is a fun place to eat. Some of the best vegetarian food around.

Pleasant atmosphere. Delicious REAL food. It is vegetarian ? my recommendations are the THALI assorted platter, it is #13 on the menu under Udupi specials & the Mango juice drink. I got my grub on and they did not disappoint at all! ???Best restaurant I’ve ever went to on the holidays?❣️

sweetgreen
1890 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94709, United States
I have been ordering from this sweet green for about two years now, mostly on DoorDash but recently I started going in person. This place is the bomb, its always fresh, every blue moon I get a watery avocado but mostly every single ingredient is flavorful and delicious! Now that Im going in to pick up I noticed how nice and welcoming everyone is, They all have great recommendations too so I can keep coming back without getting tired of getting the same taste over and over again. I think Ive eaten there 4 or 5 days in a row now because this is one of the very few restaurants where you actually feel better after eating the food.A lot of people tell me that its over priced but if you ad meat and get the free bread, this usually lasts me two meals throughout the day, but some salads are lighter than others. And if you havent noticed the entire bay area is overpriced if you want to maintain a healthy nutritious diet. If I knew everyones names I would shout them out because they all deserve it. Going here to grab a meal is something I look forward to every time.

Ajanta
1888 Solano Ave, Berkeley, CA 94707, United States
I went to the restaurant with a female friend. My food arrived barely warm and when I told the waiter, he put his finger into my rice to check the temperature. His attitude was arrogant, that perhaps I was lying, he did not believe me.The plate, of which I had taken one small bite of rice, was returned to me after microwaving. UGGGG he had touched my food. I was fearful of returning it again since the waiter acted so rude. Was it because we were females???? Was I a lower cast???Also the chickpeas which are served with the vegetarian meal were hard, a bit crunchy and I my opinion undercooked.Servings were small and even with an appetizer, I was able to finish my full meal (I weigh 110lbs and am a small eater, often not able to finish even half a meal at other restaurants.Needless to say, I will not return.

Sliver Pizzeria
2468 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
Pizza of the day was a one of a kind. Although the pizza was vegetarian, coming from a meat eater, it tasted delicious. The pizza had a nice gooey, hotness to it and the restaurants green sauce was a great supplement to bringing out the pizzas flavors. Definitely would recommend!

Flacos
3031 Adeline St, Berkeley, CA 94703, United States
*A second chance.*The first time I had Flacos I was a bacon loving self professed carnitas lover. I still love bacon but Im now vegan/vegetarian and so Ive given up meat. I didnt like the tofu/fake meat in my taquitos then but now that Ive grown accustomed to plant based whole foods, I LOVE Flacos!Flacos has a parking lot so I didnt have to stress to find parking with the Berkeley flea market happening right across the street at the Ashby BART Station. The restaurant is dog friendly (no wonder a lot of PETA staffers like eating here) and so I brought my little chihuahua corgi who tried to his best to look cute for scraps. No luck. ;)I ordered the taco combo plate with pinto beans, brown rice and salad and a chunky fresa agua frescas. The wait was a little long but the food was worth the wait. The tables and chairs are a bit worn but the outside patio is charming. Next time Ill order the huaraches, which is basically a giant salad, and the taquitos with avocado salsa.

Easy Creole
1761 Alcatraz Ave, Berkeley, CA 94703, United States
Fairly decent place! So why not 5 stars across the board? Well, because the minuscule amount of hot link pieces in the red beans and rice was disappointing, to put it mildly. I can understand wanting or needing to shave down costs... Maybe they dont standardize the amount of hot links in that dish and my dining partner and I both just got unlucky? She mentioned the same thing.I did enjoy the powerful flatulence the next morning though! It felt like a windstorm cleansing my innards.Edit in response to the owners reply:No, I wont do that... Ive worked in hospitality and the catering industry for twenty years. Thus, Im FAR too familiar with the fact that calling something to the attention of your waiter almost invariably leads to experiencing passive-aggressivity at best. But what I CAN do is leave an honest review online- that way I can share my true experience without having to feel made to feel lame, dumb, etc....Im giving your business honest feedback- putting three or four pieces of sausage in the meal is poor practice. Youre saving a dollar at the expense of creating a happy customer. If youve ever read any less than 5-star reviews of any business every business owner replies the same way- why didnt you just call it to your waiters attention?Im calling attention to it now, via online reviews- for the reasons Ive covered.Stop taking things so personally and try accepting constructive feedback. I have nothing against you or your business.

Ikes Love & Sandwiches
2172 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
TLDR: Ordered a simple Jim Rome.1st attempt: added surprise pickles2nd attempt: no turkey3rd attempt: no cheese, no avocadoI give up.Ordered a Jim Rome from their website with lettuce, tomato, and onion. It was delivered and made with pickles. I called the store and explained the situation. They gave me a refund which was awesome.I proceeded to order another sandwich on their website. The exact same thing. Once delivered, I found it was made without turkey....I got in my car and drove to the store and spoke with the same employee, I think, since there were only 2 working. He was shocked that turkey was not included and offered to remake the sandwich a 3rd time. I gave him both receipts with the same order and received the correct sandwich. I did bring back both mistakes and asked him if they could give it to someone. He said u could leave it and theyll give it to some homeless people at the end of the night. I was glad to hear the food was not going to waste. My issue boils down to ordering delivery for the convenience. After 2 attempts of delivery, I still had to drive down to the store and have them make the sandwich a 3rd time. I get that mistakes happen, but come on, twice in a row with the same sandwich and customer. It doesnt end there. I got home and went to eat the third attempt of my sandwich. No cheese. No avocado.Im done. Should I tempt fate and ask for a 4th remake? At this point its a lost cause.

Little Plearn Thai Kitchen
2283 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704, United States
With the abundance of great Thai food in Berkeley, this one definitely was a downer. We learned only upon payment time that they only accept cash. There was no visible CASH ONLY sign in sight when I was there, so this caught us by surprise. The person at the table next to us had to leave his stuff (at the advice of the waitor) and run back to his place to get cash.Apart from the lack of communication about payment options, the food was also unimpressive. I ordered the pineapple fried rice, which comes with a meat of your choice. I chose chicken. Unfortunately, the dish came with one extra piece of beef - which would have been a big problem for some people with dietary restrictions. Luckily I dont have any food restrictions, and I mentioned it to the waiter as an FYI, but allowed it to slide. Besides that, the pineapple fried rice had little to no pineapple. The price was decent, and is about average relative to other places in the area, but honestly I expected more food for what I paid. The interior design is well kept, and looked clean. I didnt go inside the restroom (though a shabby homeless person barged through the restaurant directly to the restaurant as the waitor failed to get his attention and stop him). Im surprised to be writing this, as Im generally not too critical and very forgiving, but I most certainly wont be coming back.
