The Local Peasant - Sherman Oaks Restaurant and...
14058 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
My wife and I are HUGE fans of another Antonia Lofaso joint, Dama, in downtown LA. So when we suddenly got great news on a random Wednesday and wanted to celebrate, we decided to give The Local Peasant a try. We quickly booked a reservation on Resy and headed north to Sherman Oaks.Dama sets a really high bar with its food, and for us The Local Peasant didnt get to that level. Id say its good, but not great. We started with cocktails and starters--if youre into whiskey youll definitely like the bar options. For a starter we ordered the Brussel sprouts, and they were good. Well charred so you got that crisp bite you want, but the balsamic glaze pulls the char back a bit behind the bitterness line, to make for a well-balanced plate.Moving on to main courses, we had a REALLY tough time deciding what to order, as there are many dishes that sound so good when reviewing the menu. Ultimately I settled on the turkey pot pie, because how often can you really get a good, scratch-made pot pie in LA? My wife ordered the fish & chips, and we got a side of charred broccolini to share as well. The fish & chips were definitely the better entree--thick-cut fries with some ENORMOUS pieces of fried fish. Probably the largest portion of fish in a fish & chips that Ive ever seen, honestly. Im sad to report, my pot pie was no bueno! If youre like me and eat with your eyes first, you see the server deliver the pot pie and youre like, Wow, this is gonna be epic! Crispy, flaky crust on top, and inside big chunks of turkey and carrots swimming in a creamy sauce. On point, right? WRONG. I couldnt put my finger on what was throwing the flavor off, but it was VERY acidic tasting, almost like someone had dumped like lime juice in the pot pie or something? The sauce inside the pot pie looked creamy but you got zero creamy notes when you actually tasted it. My wife confirmed, it tasted off to her as well. Also, the charred broccolini was anything but--there was zero char on them. Like, not not enough char, but literally NO char anywhere. It read more like it had been steamed than charred. It was still good, but its definitely a misprint to called it charred if thats how its usually served. Between the broccolini and the pot pie, we came away a bit disappointed.Service was a little slow at times, which I found odd considering there was hardly anyone there. But staff was friendly and accommodating for sure, especially the bartender with the big beard (I didnt get his name, sadly). He was chatting me up about our whiskey choices, and asked if I had tried one of the other kinds they offer, which I hadnt. He brought me a small amount of it in a glass, on the house, just so I could give it a try and we could compare it to the other whiskeys we had ordered. I thought that was really cool--definitely not something that happens every time you go out (especially in LA), so shout-out to that bartender! All in all, a good, but not great, experience, especially when compared to other Lofaso restaurant experiences. Although I would give it another chance on another night if I find myself in Sherman Oaks--there were many other dishes on the menu that sounded worth a try. Id say give The Local Peasant a try, just definitely avoid the pot pie, and remember to chat up your bartender!

Slowest order execution I have ever met in my life.I work in delivery, and when I arrived I have been waiting for the order for 20 minutes, which is simply unacceptable, not only it influences my job, but also the waiting time of the person who ordered the food. There are 2 possible problems, it is either the owner simply doesnt want to get more employees, or he has absolutely 0 idea about volumes at his own restaurant. It is not employees fault who work there, but arrogant behavior of the owner making this place inappropriate for online orders.Whoever you are do your research please.
Taco Bell
14115 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
This is the first time going to this Taco Bell location and will definitely be the last time.First, the one kiosk that I used did not have NFC for my apple pay. I am lucky that I had my physical card on me because it would not let me leave the screen to do my order on the other kiosk.Second, my food was absolutely terrible. I know it is fast food, but I have been to many Taco Bells and theyve been better. My nacho fries were VERY stale and the potatoes in my soft taco were stale and hard - I barely even ate it.To top it off, occasionally, I will go to Taco Bell to solely get a baja blast. It is their staple drink and I love it. My partner and I went to go fill our drinks with it. My partners drink was fine, but as soon as I got to it, the syrup ran out. After 5 minutes of workers staring at me, someone finally acknowledged me standing there and I let them know that there was no baja blast syrup and that it needed to be refilled.I kept going up to the machine and testing the syrup, but it never got better. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I went up to them and asked if they could fill my cup with baja blast with their machine for the drive thru. They said they didnt have baja blast. Instead of saying that, they just let me wait and not do anything to help me. Very very disappointment with my visit today and I will never be going back. Do better.
Georges Greek Grill
15301 Ventura Blvd P10, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
At first we wanted Cheesecake Factory or PF Cheng, fortunately it was late and they were closed. So, we saw George's Greek Grill open so we let's go here and try. But man let me tell you this place was amazing, starting from Ben and another staff I didn't get the name but great. Nice place and great food, everything yummy. So even the kids that wanted the other restaurants were happy they stayed. Due to pandemic we sat outside but it's because it's for everyone's safety. So, we are glad the other other locations were closed and we got to try this place out. We would refer for sure and will definitely come back.
Muzen Roll & Boba
14834 Burbank Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91411, United States
This little “hole in the wall” Japanese cafe has the best chicken katsu in LA.Super fresh, light and crispy katsu breading with juicy white breast meat, served in the bowl on soft, warm rice with a side of lettuce salad and topped with pickled and crispy veggies with lotus root slices. It's so simple but so thoughtfully, well made. Truly a little piece of authentic Japan here in a random strip center in Sherman Oaks.I also had a nice warm cup of lightly sweetened Jasmine green tea on a cold day while waiting for my car at the dealer. It's a small storefront that seats about 12 total (4 individual seats + 2 tables of four) and provides a nice, calm ambience, with a very clean and tidy space. Nothing lavish but truly the perfect setting for eating some fresh Japanese home cooking. They also have an assortment of other sushi and Japanese dishes, along with crawfish here.I'll be back again for sure.
Ikes Love & Sandwiches
13535 Ventura Blvd Unit A, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
We ordered online to be picked up using my Apple Pay. It appeared to go through and we left immediately to pick up. We arrived at 15 mins before close and they said they didn't get an order. Confused we checked my apple statement and it hadn't charged. But they were still open, now 10 mins before close, and then my son tried to order the 3 sandwiches we had ordered online. The girl responded that she couldn't take our order because they were closing in 10 mins. Like WHAT?!? She was clearly being lazy, and really should lose her job so she can go be lazy at home if she doesn't understand how businesses operate and whats required of employees when they are currently open for business.
THE ORIGINAL COLEYS LLC
14056 Burbank Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401, United States
I recently visited The Original Coleys, and as a Jamaican familiar with the quality and standard of Jamaican cuisine, I was blown away by the warm hospitality and attentive service. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. I also appreciated the lively Jamaican music playing in the background and the clean environment they maintained.I ordered the beef patty, the oxtail entree with a side of jerk chicken and soursop juice. While the oxtail was a bit salty, the rice and peas and jerk chicken were flavorful and well-seasoned, showcasing the kitchens knowledge of Jamaican cuisine. However, I must say that the overall taste did not match the price they were charging. My total came to $53.65, which I found to be a bit pricey. One thing that bothered me during my visit was when my aunt was about to pay on the Clover machine, they made it sound like tips were mandatory. The owner said, We dont work for free, even though Im not certain what he meant by that. This made me feel uncomfortable, and as a Jamaican, I would have appreciated a more tactful approach to asking for tips.Overall, I was impressed with the genuine hospitality which is extremely rare in a Jamaican restaurant. Being Jamaican myself, I have high standards for Jamaican cuisine, and The Original Coleys understanding of the cuisine was evident in their food. I gave them a tip of $10, as their hospitality was exceptional. Despite the high prices and the awkward tip situation, I would still recommend them to anyone looking for delicious Jamaican food, great service, and a fun atmosphere.

Donna Jean
4720 Woodman Ave, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, United States
We have visted Donna Jean twice since their opening and I have to say that there are so many delightful reasons that make this a 5 star experience.Food: This is a scratch kitchen (everything made from scratch) and it is done RIGHT! The dynamic combinations and balances of fresh ingredients and homemade cheeses, sauces and plant based meats puts them in a category that is worldclass. You dont have to be vegan or eat plant based to know on your first bite that this place is legendary... and can easily compete or beat any top tier conventional italian inspired restaurant (Trust me, Ive eaten worldclass pizza all over the world)Service: Both times the service from entrance to exit has been very welcoming, personal and filled with passion and warmth. They hire great people (even staff that arent your server are super nice and helpful). Our most recent visit was a special one; it was my fiancé and Is last dinner out before our baby was born. Shannah made this dinner extra special by naturally being so kind, helpful and absolutely professional. We felt like we were part of the restaurants family and were treated excellently... and it wasnt just us, hearing and seeing her superb service at her other tables proved that she is a top tier server. If the food wasnt as good as it was, her service alone would bring us back.Atmosphere: The ambiance is great for anything ranging from a casual meal with friends/coworkers to a semi-fancy and romantic date. There is an exquisitely earthy feel that has just the right dash of fanciness to it.Price: $$$, I think the price is extremely reasonable for the quality of ingredients, time it takes to make everything from scratch and the high level of culinary skill it takes to perform the alchemy they do in order to create such balanced fresh food. The pizzas are sharable but getting a full pizza per person is a reasonable expectation. They all cost roughly 25 dollars each. I am on a budget and totally think this place is a great deal.5 stars doesnt cut it... this is now one of our favorite restaurants in LA. We have a newborn now but we cant wait to return as soon as we can!(I wish I took pictures but the food was so good, pictures were an afterthought.. next time!)Again Shannon was a rockstar!Id love to specifically review menu items in the future so stay tuned!
The Pastors Grill
4850 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403, United States
New spot I pass by here and there and stopped in one day. Tried the Al Pastor Bowl and my kid had a quesadilla. Both were excellent and flavorful. My teen said it's one of his favs as far as the quesadilla goes, I couldn't even get a picture before it was all gone! Everything was fresh even by a 10minutes drive home. The cashier was pleasant and friendly I forgot her name unfortunately but she is the one this review goes to as she was very knowledgeable in the menu and pick two fantastic options to try for the first time. She did rave about the Torta's but I'm not much for them. She let me sample the Homemade Agra's and the Chia Limon Pepino was THE absolute best in my opinion. Tried a cookie and it had the perfect combo of soft and chewy to crispy edge. Decent prices among other common restaurants. You can dine in if you want. It's very clean inside and cool from the outside heat. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is the parking is tough. Cash/Card/Tap payments accepted. Definitely recommend. Stopping by this new business.
