Pho Vung Tau Bay
5880 Antelope Rd Ste 200, Sacramento, CA 95842, United States
The restaurant is small at least 10 tables. Self seated. Meun it short with no picture. Our waiter was quick to take our order. He bought our chilly & pickling jalapeños/garlic which it was not great. Jalapeños/garlic was too blend & sweet. Oil chilly wasnt spicy enough or have favor just tasted more like fried garlic in oil.We ordered p1 & p5 plus side of fried calamari. Fried calamari was dried & overcooked, blend & no salt. The first vietnamese restaurant, in 20+ years, serves tarter sauce instead of sweet chilly sauce. Our pho came out quick. Broth was disappointing. It didnt taste like traditional broth. Lack in favor. Needed to add a bunch of condiments to cover the lack of favor. Careful put in your side of veggies. Thai basil had a tiny worm on one of the leaves I just pick it off and put it on the side. Portion of the noodles & meat were perfect. Meats was tender. Tendon was on the middle-tough side. Never had tendon tasted that tough in any vietnamese restaurant I had eaten. This is more on the white vietnamese restaurant than traditional vietnamese restaurants. Lack in favors, overcooked on calamari & undercooked on tendon. Price is right for portion, but it is not traditional enough for me to come back.
Dragon Tea Cafe
4400 Elverta Rd #180, Antelope, CA 95843, United States
I usually love this place. I placed a large online order (14 drinks) on the clover/google app. The app said it'd be ready in 20 min but I know a small place needs more time than that so I came 45 min after I placed my order and I added a tip. I walked in hoping to pick up my order to find out they hadn't even started. They said they were out of boba and that it would be ready in 10 min. I waited 30 min and asked and they informed me boba had just been ready and we're about to start. Mind you I was patient and was responded to with attitude. And other orders were being made and given to walk-in orders. I placed the order at 3:12 and received my drinks at 4:45. I asked to speak to a manager and their answer was to blame me for ordering so much and that the manager was no longer there and refused to give me a card to call. Their excuse was a rush and honestly I was very rudely talked to. Don't know what happened to them I hope this isn't the new normal for them. Very disappointed today.

Hotpot Express

[This review is based purely off of the hot pot]Man, me and my girlfriend DESPERATELY wanted to love this place. Ever since HL Hot Pot in South Sac closed (for our money, one of the best Hot Pot places in California), weve been searching for a replacement. We saw the amazing reviews for this one, and the next night we found ourselves here. We drove 35 minutes to eat here...it wasnt exactly worth the trip. With a nice atmosphere and nice service, the overall clunkiness of the experience, lack of decent options, and somewhat small portions take away from what couldve been a great visit. But this place has GREAT potential, and we liked a lot from it -- the broths and the whole self-serve aspect especially. This place has serious potential.Atmosphere: 3.8/5-- Situated in a slightly cramped shopping center, its nestled snugly next to a nail salon with a taco bell right across the way. Not exactly premium digs, but we easily found a parking spot.-- The inside is pretty nice; newly remodeled Im sure. It was shiny, so I like that. It was also clean, which you would think nowadays is a given, but youd be surprised.-- Its pretty small. Like, 6 tables and 1 giant table small.Service: 4/5-- When we got there, there was only 1 visible employee doing everything. He was really nice and helpful, but you could tell this was a little too much on his plate at times.-- When he did help us, you could tell he genuinely wanted you to have a great experience. Huge (+) plus!Basically, theres three tiers of plates you can choose from:Green $2.95 --- Vegetables, noodles, tofu (and chicken )Yellow $3.95 --- Meats, fish balls, etcRed $4.95 ------ Seafood, higher quality meatsPretty simple, right? And color coordination makes everything easier too, which was kind of like their version of a self-checkout line. Nice.Food: 3/5+ + The broths we got (house special and spicy beef) were delicious, and pretty intense. The spicy is pretty spicy. Be warned that these two are very similar. Also, both of them were inherently Thai broths. We werent really aware that this was more of a Thai hotpot place, but the menu suggests that.+ Shiitake mushrooms were part of the green plates, which is saying something because usually theyre not included in hot pot or very expensive.+ Meat was good quality, and the vegetables were serviceable.(-- --) The dipping sauces were....not very good. Two ladies behind us seemed to enjoy, but neither of us did. One was some weird Asian take on thousand islands, and it just seems totally mismatched with hotpot. The other was some overly spicy lime/chile sauce. Thats it.(--) Not a huge selection on veggies at all, I was disappointed. Basic cabbage, bok choy, broccoli, cucumbers...and thats kind of it. Was looking for watercress, spinach, etc.(--) The set up at the table was just...clunky. Something just kind of seemed off.-- Some things that we liked: Rice noodles (gave us so much more than the udon noodles plate), shiitake(!), lobster balls, and enoki.-- The seafood medley (frozen assorted seafood combination) was pretty gross, and it was $5.-- The plates that were available to us looked nothing like the plates from when this plate opened, so we were upset about that. Smaller portions and less options :(Price: 3.5/5-- The prices are a little steep than the aforementioned HL Hot Pot (R.I.P.), but we got a check of $31 for 2, which we could definitely slim down next time.-- Drinks are pretty expensive, with no refills for drinks. Thai tea for $3.50? Yikes.-- The meats are pretty expensive here for the small portions, which wouldve been okay, but there were little vegetable options.TIPS:-- Tell him the broth (or two for an extra $3) you want right when you sit down. That way you can just get up and choose your food!-- Rice noodle value is better than udon noodle value-- Stay away from the medley, please. This place could be great, but its not yet. I dont think well make the drive up here unless it improves, but I feel like it will in time.
Lumpia Ko - Eats And Boba
7893 Walerga Rd #105, Antelope, CA 95843, United States
Bad food, worse service. My mom insisted I finally come with her yesterday and try mango float drink. We had a large order for our family that consisted of two mango floats, a large order of chicken lumpia, a large order of pork lumpia, Korean steak, and palabok. When I tried my drink I immediately didn't like it. I informed them that it tasted watered down and my mom agreed there didn't seem to be any ice cream in the drink. We asked for a replacement drink, or a possible refund as this was my first time there and I didn't enjoy what I received. The girl at the counter turned to the girl behind her, who then grabbed another girl from the back who brought out a fourth girl that told us the manager said we could not receive a refund or receive a new drink. That didn't seem right. Normally at a restaurant when you order something that isn't to your liking, you can receive a different item, I thought. So I asked if I could speak to the manager. They told me not at this time. Then I asked for the managers name and the girl with the gauges in her ears said she didn't know the managers name. Then another girl came out and said she would have to go look for the managers name who they then said was “Mary.”After asking to speak with a manager, I was told they could replace the drink. During this time we had received our food, which was now sitting at the table. We waited an additional 15 minutes while the girls talked amongst each other, figuring out how to make my new drink which was a strawberry banana smoothie. After waiting about 20 minutes after we had received our food, we just decided to leave. Of course our food was cold on the four minute drive home. The Korean steak was chewy and the rice was overcooked. The palabok was super dry. As if that weren't enough, my mom, dad, husband and myself we up all night with food poisoning. The girls I spoke with said they're names were “Sally” and “Sarah”The drinks were bad. The food was bad. And to top it all off, the service was awful. We will not be returning.
