Absolutely loved the food here. The owner still runs the place after 30+ years and brings the same energy to every table. We with the owners recommendation and it was amazing.The kind of innovation with very old ingredients from India that are forgotten is just mind blowing.I didnt like the dessert as I dont like artificial sweeteners taste.Definitely recommend.

Modern Indian cuisine with a twist of Mexican style cuisine. I enjoyed the traditional style as well as the twist of the dish enchiladas.It’s flavorful and delicious regardless for those who are adventurous to explore a little twist in Indian Cuisine.

Their soup came with paratha and that paratha seemed like it was homemade and fresh 👌. Mushroom appetizer was flavorful and tasty. Shrimp appetizer was cilantro flavored and was ok.Jamaican jerk chicken with rice was good and was a tad tangy. Jerk chicken enchilada was so cheesy. The Italian fusion spinach fettuccini pasta looked healthy and was a good try.Mango lassi was so delightful and fresh.

I think the first time I stepped into Avatars was more than a decade ago. Since then I have left the Bay Area but whenever I am back, I try to make sure I stop by. The quality and creativity you see with every dish has been consistently high in my experience from that first time I got to sample Avatars offerings. The flexibility is great too - whatever you want, they will create for you.Go check it out if you havent - youll enjoy it!

I opted to give this restaurant a try due to its positive reviews, but regrettably, I found myself thoroughly disappointed. The restaurants strong emphasis on customer service seemed to take precedence over the quality and quantity of the food, resulting in a less-than-satisfactory value for the money spent. The only exception was the Lassi; however, the overall food experience failed to capture the authentic taste of Indian cuisine.

Came here after a nice day out in the Marin.Good:- Superb service - what a kind staff here!- Food came out SO QUICKLY - it was honestly so impressive how quickly they were able to bring out each entree as soon as we ordered.- The mango lassi here was incredible - really good pair with the mild spicy food- The best samosas Ive had in a while - the texture of each bite was impeccable- The enchilada was so so tasty and the sauce it came with was really good- Tasty soup and paratha - loved just picking and eating at the parathaBad:- Wasnt a big fan of the chicken curry - it was a bit dry and also really just chunky- More of a causal ambiance so nothing special about the interior designOverall this was a great place to go and so happy we found this on Instagram reels!

This was my second time here after many years. We tried curried sweet potatoes enchiladas and it tasted amazing and spicy. We also tried their ravioli which was vegan.The owner and the staff are very friendly.Highly recommend them if you are in Sausalito

Spice, flavor, citrus, and everything nice!Having read some of the lower reviews (because I was shocked to see them), I want to clarify that Avatars is not STRICTLY an Indian restaurant. They are #fusion, and explicitly and proudly say on their menu that they are the proud purveyors of ethnic confusion since....I forget the year, but it always makes me grin.The owner and his whole family are an absolute delight! I have been going here for about 6 years, never once had a glutening, and always have incredibly delicious food and excellent service.I would tell you what I order, but I dont know, lol, I often just left Ashook (sorry if I am spelling it incorrectly) surprise me. Which is a strong testament to the amazing perfection of everything on the menu. This is the only place where I would let someone choose my meal for me lol.Their new outdoor patio area is super cute and spacious.

Chef is really welcoming and accommodating. He was able to make Jain (no root vegetables) dishes like Enchiladas, Ravioli, Stir Fry and Samosas. All of them tasted great. Dishes definitely are on the expensive side but worth going once in a while

Wow, the service was great, loved the vibe, but not a fan of the uneven picnic table tops because we kept spilling or nearly.I was so excited about this place because its obviously made with love but it just didnt have enough balance for me to say anything we tried was something that would stick with us or have us come again.I loved the ambitious fusion of everything but it just didnt seem to hit right and it was very carb heavy where I was hoping for some more vegetables to go with things.I really wanted to try the dessert but the meal itself just wasnt enough to promise that Id be excited about it so we skipped it. Thats not a thing for me usually.

Amazing service great fusion food. Being an Indian its difficult to vouch for good Indian food but I’ve to say i wasn’t disappointed a bit. The food had great flavours and great mix of different veggies and proteins. The host is amazing and a great entertainer. One of the few fusion restaurants with no egg vegetarian food!!

For foodies like me, this place is paradise. Totally different kind of fusion food. The owner has been in the gastronomy industry for 33 years, he told us. The ingredients used in his dishes are only healthy and good stuff. The starters had three kinds of sauces in different flavors. The enchiladas with chicken & also prawns were flavorful. No sugars or white flour used in their cooking. The Avatar’s Dream dessert is phenomenal. And the service is very hood. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes. Fast & efficient. Indian food with a twist!If you are looking for fusion food with Indian flavors, its a superb place to go. We have been here several times over the last two years. They have both indoor/outdoor dining. Their owner/staff Ashok is a very friendly guy. If you are vegetarian you must try their Mix-Veg Enchilada. Be very careful with the owners marketing tactics.He said hell surprise us with some special dishes, brought us three dishes - enchiladas, cauliflower potato curry, tofu spinach curry, and charged us for $150 plus tip. This place was recommended by a good friend of mine 10 years ago but never had the chance to come here. Finally, I had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant today. The items I ordered were mouth watering and delicious. The curried mushroom starter and the lentil soup were very delicious and perfectly seasoned. The Punjabi enchiladas (both the rock shrimp and the Jamaican Jerk Chicken variety) were excellent and flavorful. The fusion enchilada sauce with the Mexican/Indian flavor combination was a treat with the healthy tortillas made from millet and healthy grainsThe Avatar’s dream dessert looked like a cheese cake but had a totally different taste and was divine with mild sweetness.Finally the sugarless masala chai was the icing on the cake to finish an excellent lunch.The lunch service was fast and the owner was very friendly. Overall, I would give a five star thumbs up to this place. I will definitely visit again to taste other menu items.

I visited this place with family and friends 07/28. We were greeted well by the owner who mentioned that he has been running this for 37 years with fusion theme. No money to be paid if you dont like. We went in with his recommendations for chicken curry, new Zealand Lamb curry and one more dish. The taste was lower than average. Lamb was not well done. Curry was.more like Sauted tomato base gravy which was too blend. We had Tea in the end which again was more like warm water .While we did not request for waiving off per his statement earlier but we did not enjoy the food at all. Ambience and services are good. Only recommending if you may like to try your luck and in for some surprises.

We discovered Avatar’s quite by chance on our way to Mill Valley. The food was flavorful and delicious! It was interesting to hear that the dishes were prepared without butter, cream, sugar, wheat, or all-purpose flour. This place was pleasantly unique in terms of service and ambiance. They had an elaborate menu but the server recommended a few dishes based on our dietary needs. We had the Jamaican Jerk chicken, a prawns dish and vegetarian enchiladas. Apart from the portion sizes being small, I didn’t quite enjoy the chicken too much because personally I’m not fond of eating sweet tasting food for lunch. The rice that accompanied it also had raisins which made the food even sweeter. Went there expecting Indian dishes but ended up with something else so was a bit disappointed. They have only one dessert which is also decent.

My wife and I dropped in here for a late lunch. Restaurant was not busy at all. We were greeted by very pleasant wait staff and were guaranteed that our food would be the best. :) Wife and I split the Jamacian Jerk Chicken with spice level 7 and we were not disappointed. They ended up charging us more than what the items costed and didnt give us a printed break down in the receipt (the bill had some scribbled notes and we didnt double check as we were in a rush). The reason I say all of this is because not just the food but our entire experience at this restaurant was amazing.Ashok, the owner cum chef of the restaurant was very welcoming, walked us through his specialities and why he used certain ingredients and why he did not. Amazing twist to conventional Indian cuisine. I like going here after every 5-6 months (mainly because it is a bit far from South Bay) to revisit this innovative way of mixing up Indian dishes. The best thing is that there is no compromise to the taste at all. The dishes are well thought of and the final outcome is delicious. Enchiladas were best. If having an amazing meal in a quick time is your metric, you’re going to love it here. The owner is enthusiastic and provides lots of inputs, but can hurry you into ordering at times. Well, I know lots of people love this place, but do be careful of what you order. Food is quite rich by American standards and too less by Indian standards. That said, service is ultra quick and the owner is very polite and helpful. Would be nice if they stock more varieties of beer, instead of the Taj Mahal brand they stock....Which incidentally is not available in India! They also have just one sweet dish.... no choice available. Seating is congested and you do have to wait for sometime to get a place, even during less busy times.

Every now and then, you experience a small business who you can’t WAIT to give your money to at the end of the experience. You WANT to fund whatever goodness they’re providing and you know you’ve been given something far beyond what money can buy. This was one of those times. We stopped in for a late lunch after a rainy day of hiking and we were welcomed as if we were family. These people LOVE food. They love to host you and guide you and include you in a true tasting experience. We just kept saying to each other as we tried hard not to inhale everything at once, “this is just beautiful food.” We don’t mean the presentation (although it IS lovely) and we don’t mean the ambiance (although it is perfect!) - we mean that it’s just beautiful, thoughtfully crafted food. Intentional flavor profiles. Colorful combinations. Clean, whole, nourishing. The place will be a hit in a Gordon Ramsay episode. the service staff is half the USP, they really know how to push extra product.the food is in extraordinarily inconsistent between dishes. almost as if the owner and chef fought over the menu.some of the food is greasy. An absolute Bay Area favorite! The owner is definitely one of the highlights of this restaurant. If you are a new customer and are unsure on what to order the owner is more than willing to surprise you with some dishes according to your taste preference. This place is the perfect balance of Indian and fusion flavors. Make sure not to miss the enchiladas! The last time I visited I had the spinach fettuccini that was amazingly delicious. The pasta made in house with spinach, millet flour and mustard greens, so creative and tasty!

Nice Indian restaurant with a twist. We went after it was mentioned in the Check please (KQED) program. The offer a couple traditional Indian appetizers, like Samosa. The entrees have both a Mexican twist, i.e., chicken enchiladas but the spicing is all Indian. The Italian style entrees are Indian entrees served on a bed of zucchini spaghetti, etc. But the kicker is actually different, the chef/owner of the place asks if he can bring entrees of his choice. Three vegetarians on the table went with that option - they were quite happy with the selection. I went with the chicken enchiladas, very good interesting flavors - Indian, plus traditional Mexican flavors and the side rice is Indian style. The owner makes a fun game out of the chefs choice entrees - he asks you to guess what the vegetables are, if you get all of them right the entire meal is free! I dont know if anyone got all right, we gave up about 30% of the way.The place is a bit small, so cozy is the word. It can get crowded. Note in Google maps directions - it asks you to take that last right and claims.youve arrived... Not really you have to turn into the strip and the 3rd place is Avatars.Bottom line, worth a visit.

Ridiculous! Also, a chai drink was ordered and they never brought it till finally came around to us and we asked for it again. They offered us bread/roti as if it was complementary and when we asked for more they never said it was extra. Noticed untill they gave the bill. They include the tips for 5 people when they barely came around. Only good things were the flavors of the curry sauce and the samosas. But aside from that really bad experience. The owner greeted me promptly and was friendly -- however -- the same hands that was handling plates and money, dirty cash money, grabbed a somosa without washing his hands. The mango lassi was so unique and incredibly tasty.Lastly, we chose to get the one dessert Avatar offers, which is a slice of gelato cake with a biscuit crust garnished with whole pistachios. Avatar’s online menu prices are dishonest and will leave you paying more than you expected when you walk in. What I expected to pay was close to $25 for the Trio Curry dish I ordered (on their website it states that it’s $19.95), what I was told I had to pay when I walked in was $40. And the dish itself had barely any of the lamb, chicken and prawns that this curry is named for. It was mostly vegetables. Overall, not a great experience. I will not be coming back. Rated 2 Star because the taste is decent.EDIT: Dear owner, in response to your reply it is still your responsibility to communicate to your customers, before they go to pay, how much they are expected to pay. I called you over the phone, and since you knew your prices had gone up you could have notified me of it at the time I was making the order. You did not. When I came to pickup my order and questioned the price, only then did you tell me. To me that is dishonest. If you want to keep customers, do better by them.There is no excuse for false advertising when you have ways to inform your customers.

I heard about Avatars from Marin Magazines Best of Marin Restaurants where Avatars was featured as the Best Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant in Marin County.While Im not vegan or vegetarian, I really enjoy healthy and thoughtfully prepared food so as I was driving by and saw their signage, I decided to stop in for a quick bite. After reviewing the menu, I quickly discovered this isnt your average Indian restaurant. The dishes are a unique fusion blend of Indian, Mexican, Caribbean and Asian influences.I couldnt really decide what to order, as Im a creature of habit and always order the same thing at Indian cuisine restaurants. I told the kind female server that I usually order Palak/Saag Paneer and she said they could make it. It was the best and most flavorful rendition I have had in the bay area. I frequently order from Lotus and have ordered from Bombay Grill and Amber Kitchen on delivery. I also order from Indian Palace sometimes as its a convenient location on my way home to Tiburon. Avatars version was the best.I ordered it with a medium spice level, accompanied by slightly blackened fresh vegetables and basmati rice. The rice was perfectly cooked and not over-flavorered with too much saffron but just enough to get notes of its vibrant flavor. Ashok explained that in their version of the curry doesnt include dairy or cream and is oil based using bean products. Totally wow, a healthier version of the dish that tastes better!Normally Indian restaurants put curry in an oval shaped dish that makes it appear larger, so when the plate first arrived with the curry and rice on one traditional round plate, I thought it was a smaller preparation, but it wasnt and the portion was perfect.Ashok also just prepared a Daal Curry for a takeout guest and brought a small sample for me to try it the next time I visit. He explained that all dishes are made-to-order and they dont pre-cook large portions to serve like many other Indian restaurants do. The curry was also excellent, but I like spinach curry over cauliflower/lentil curries (re: creature of habit). I ordered the same dish again to-go to enjoy for dinner.I was surprised the restaurant wasnt immediately packed at 11 on a Friday like other restaurants in town with the food and service being so excellent. Check out the kitchen before you eat. My wife and I stopped by on Tuesday 2/22 for dinner. I stopped at the restroom first, which passes the kitchen entrance. The kitchen that the public doesnt see is beyond filthy. The walls were grimy from what looks like years of neglect. If the visible parts are that dirty I am very concerned about food safety.We left without eating.

Well, the owner is really warm & will greet you with open hands. He made custom dishes for us & promised that we will be having the best meal of our life. Thus raised our hopes. 5 of us went there over the labor day weekend. Overall Id say the food is good but not great. The concept is interesting... its basically Indian fused with classic Mexican and Italian dishes. The owner certainly tries his best to provide a memorable experience, but he came across as a bit overwhelming at times and perhaps oversold his ideas.If youre looking for great Indian food, there are a number of other places in the bay area that are beyond amazing. As a novelty experience this is worth a try.

This place not only had delicious food, but the staff was super friendly. My party had someone with a dairy and gluten allergy, and the wait staff was very cognizant of that and the menu offered several options for him. We left extremely satisfied and happy with our meal. If only we lived here, wed be at Avatars all the time. Will definitely come back if were ever in the area.

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. Amazing owner who really has a passion for what he does. Creative approach to authentic Indian food. I have no doubt that everything on the menu is going to taste great. My friends from SF showed this place to me when I was visiting from Virginia. I was so disappointed with this place. It had such good reviews but the food was bland. We tried several different dishes and none was good. And the service was mediocre to say the least. The atmosphere was decent though the bathroom was pretty dirty. Definitely not going back and would not recommend. It’s not worth the price.

The server seemed super nice and said the food we would eat here would be the best food ever. He ordered food for us without actually telling us what he was bringing to us... When the food arrived, the quantity was SO little, my family looked shocked. It was simple raviolis, really small enchiladas, and rice and saag. The food all seemed like leftover, and when we asked for more he simply said that the kitchen was closed. At the end when he brought us the bill, it was $60 for three people! It was outrageous. The food was average and the amount was poor and it was way too expensive! Never going there ever again. Hope they read this and get better with their food amount.

Before going there please read a few reviews between 1 and 3 stars and TRUST them! We ordered vegan food, dirty place with lots of cross contamination. We asked for recommendations for our little kid and he said he can just share with you. Luckily I read a few reviews while he was working on our order and ordered a small side for my son. Samosa was cold on the inside and hot outside. Server/owner touches food while taking orders. We are used to bad Bay Area Indian food and this food is very much on par or maybe lower. Just drive a few miles out to SF.

Love this place. We heard from the owner that this place has been in this location for 30 years. We had some co-workers visiting from Singapore, they loved it so much they came back at least 4 times during their stay, and yes, I tagged along. Tips for people who hates reading the menu (like me), just tell them what meat or veggies you like and what to avoid, they will whip up something amazing.

Stumbled upon this gem after doing tourist things at Golden Gate Bridge. Indian curry in an enchilada isnt a combination that I knew I wanted until I tried it. I made a reservation in advance before arriving. Encountered a small place with very limited seating. I was seated at the counter right in front of the kitchen and stove where all the meals were prepared. This was very interesting to me since I was able to see food cooked and plated, and the extraordinary amount of coordination this operation takes. I was disappointed by how eagerly patrons were admitted into the restaurant even when there seemed to be no space, not to already mention how it seemed there were not enough staff to handle the patrons they were already feverishly serving. It was something to experience once but I will not be back unless they either acquire a larger venue or develop a process to better handle the flow of seating and serving of patrons.

#overpriced #scam We asked him to recommend us food he brought 7 dishes for us 7 people the food was decent but the quantity was so less and the final bill came out to be 180$ that too after pointing out some mistakes in the bill. We tried to duplicate the order by checking online and it came out to be 130$ by that time he shut down the restaurant and left and we tried to contact him and he eventually paid us the difference.

Love this family run Indian fusion restaurant! We didnt know exactly what to order and the owner totally took care of us with a good range of dishes that covered different varieties to share! Their dessert was the bomb! Definitely a must visit in Sausalito!
