Love this place! Hole in the wall sandwich shop. Dont be discouraged by the look of it, sandwiches are amazing. CASH ONLY. I forgot during my last visit and had to scramble to the bank. Super affordable, sandwiches are around $7

I tried their #1 and it was pretty good. $6.50 for a sandwich and a coke. Cheap and filling! Love the cucumber slices in the sandwich, it’s crisp and refreshing. The jalapeños give it some heat.

Best Banh Mi in the bay!We frequent here often and are always in aw of how fast and accurate the gentleman gets our order (its just him!). Its very affordable for the quality youre getting. The bread is a little tough but still yummy and authentic.We recommend the #4 (pork slices) and #7 (BBQ chicken) AND the ice coffee is a must! Im ADDICTED!

This place has great prices on Bahn Mis ~6.xx$ each, and their food is great. The service is incredibly fast and even when a line forms. I usually grab an extra sandwich for later. Their Vietnamese style iced coffee is very strong and usually comes with a tiny straw which is great to pace yourself with. Theres also a wide variety of imported chips from Lays shipped from thailand, lots of flavors most people have heard of. Must try to the Boat Noodle chips, goes well with a #7 Sandwich.

Figured it was cash only.As I counted out the total and gave the cashier approximate cash and tip money too. I was putting my cash away.The cashier told me I was short on cash. Hmm I thought not but I wasnt going to make a fuss or a scene.Please be careful when paying with cash here and hopefully this business doesnt take advantage of folks who arent able to specifically count out their cash and speak up for themselves.& Hopefully if the owner is reading this they can hold themselves accountable.

Look, its the best banh mi spot we have in the area. I feel like google is forcing me to make a review for whatever reason. Prices have gone up significantly. Same as with everything in the Bay. If you go here enough, you would already know. The way you order is when you get acknowledgement. As soon as the owner says hello to you you order your food.

Authentic Vietnamese sandwich shop. If you know Banh Mi Ba Le in Oakland, then this place is the same. Owners are related. Variety of sandwiches made per your request. I requested the veggie contents separately in a bag because Im eating them the next day for lunch. I didnt want the bread to get soggy. They graciously accommodated. Parking may be tricky. Free small parking lot in front of the shop and there is street metered parking. Area is very clean. I spoke to the owner in Vietnamese so I cant really make comments about how fluent he is in English. Highly recommend if youre craving Vietnamese sandwiches!

If youre not Vietnamese read this review, because if you are Vietnamese in any way you already know this place is great... Friendly and fast folks working in this small store filled with Vietnamese / Asian snacks, drinks and the main focus is on tasty sandwiches! You know its good food and a great deal because its usually busy but the line moves very quickly. My favorite sandwich is the bacon, which is like a warm char siu /red around the edge of the meat, thick Sliced pork with the fat on it. Ive also had their BBQ char siu pork(red finely shredded pork) sandwich and their BBQ chicken sandwich, which is finely shredded chicken mixed with mild chicken like spices (dark yellow color). Those were both tasty but might not be what you think of as BBQ pork or BBQ chicken because they are so finely shredded. You can ask for the sandwich roll not to be toasted, which if youre eating it in your car I recommend because the crumbs will go everywhere if its toasted. Toasted or not its still a good and full sandwich with plenty of vegetables with the big bonus of having the sandwiches sliced green peppers not being too hot/spicy, unlike most Vietnamese sandwich stores. I havent tried the other sandwiches but the #2 seems very popular and as soon as I try others, I will list them here.A quick note about one of the other pre-made ready to go foods available besides the sandwiches, its their delicious raw young papaya (sliced thin strips) salad, because it is fresh and traditionally made, a very small percentage of humans might be a little bit allergic to the small quantity of natural latex like ingredients that can naturally occur in it. If you feel a tingling in your throat or breathing is affected stop eating it, even though it tastes So delicious.Lastly, I recommend everyone try a sandwich here. There are other food choices in this peppermint tree plaza strip mall but I think this is the best value for your dollar and it tastes delicious!!!

Randomly stopped by this place because we were craving just a quick bite to eat.. It this aint the best banh mi in the bay area, its definitely top 3. Also super affordable. Came back the next day to get another banh mi to make sure the first one wasnt a fluke of sheer deliciousness. Ill probably stop by again before flying home.

I love this restaurant It is a family owned, husband and wife. Please cash only. I only found out about it a few years ago but I think theyve been there forever. He Makes all the sandwiches to order so theyre fresh and good incredible prices. He also has desserts and puddings in the refrigerator and if Im lucky when I go there he has Is great egg rolls and Delicious chickenNot hot but package to go in the front display case in front of the counter. Some lot of times Ill get A sandwich And get chicken and egg rolls or something for dinner. I dont know why it has taken me this long to write this review but better late than never! Ive been coming to this spot for almost 15+ years! Every single visit here has always been consistently good! Whether its the sandwiches, Spring Rolls, or papaya salads. You cant go wrong with whatever you order here.The same man who used to serve me here in high school, is still here and it is always such a pleasure to see him! Cash only so be prepared. We always stop by here before a long drive up north / before camping.It’s ran by an elderly couple, but we ordered 10 Banh mis and they made everything in less than 10 min. Rode the bus from Napa in search of a cheap Banh Mi in the Bay Area. Which is becoming like trying to find bigfoot. That is unless you live in a city that is heavily populated with Banh Mi shops then lucky you, but not lucky me. This shop has definitely surpassed its pricing with quality and taste, if you are in El Cerrito stop by get like 4 sandwhiches for $20 like i did support your mom and pop Banh Mi shop. Make sure you bring cash and an empty stomach. And there are no seating area so expect to enjoy the Banh mi in the car, on a drive or in one of the nearby parks. I should of bought more but i will be back soon! Enjoy!

I came here when it was first opened and the sandwiches have been delicious and continues to be currently. The only difference now is that the prices are a lot higher but that is to be expected. The selection of sandwiches is good enough and basic and thats a great thing because you dont want to be overwhelmed with so many choices that it gets hard to decide what to get and it compromises the quality of the food and ingredients. Its best to just stick with a small amount of food and specialize in it and that is what this place does. I forgot to mention that they offer other vietnamese food to like Pho and some ready to go rice and noodles dishes. They have a cooler case that has some interesting desserts and drinks. The unique assortment of snacks by the entrance piques my interest every time I go there. One thing I wish I could buy from them is the little french breads they use to make the sandwiches and the pickled vegetables. Overall great spot for a quick delicious meal or snack. Highly recommend them. I think they have a second place in the Oakland chinatown area too unless Im mistaken by the name.

I’ve been coming here since they first opened, back when bành mì was barely $2. I’m so glad to see they survived the shut down years of Covid and are still going strong.Their sandwiches have the correct balance of a crispy flakey bread on the outside but its still soft and squeezable, crunchy vegetables, just the right amount of meat, and pate.The sandwich in the photos is the #2 on the menu.

My favorite place now. I never knew how good they were till recently. Amazing food. The flavor in their chicken is bomb. I get the bbq pork sandwich and the bbq pork is just euphoric and with the other ingredients is perfect. I get their deserts in the refrigerator and they are delicious. Everything you get there is great. Their egg rolls are amazing. Their prices went up a little from since they first opened but i think they still have low prices. Thank you Ba Le. Wow!! Best pasta I think Ive ever had in my life. We saw pasta sisters on an episode of Worth it and had to try it. I got the bolognese w/ homemade tagliatelle and a big burrata on top. My husband got the porcini with tagliatelle. Omg one bite of either one was a nearly religious experience. I still need to go on Sunday to try the carbonara (my fav pasta) but I have no doubt itll be incredible. We have to drive 45min each way to eat here and its still worth it. BUT THE QUALITY is going downhill, the Vietnamese baguette is dry and the ingredients are way less than before, less pâtè, less pickled veg. Less meats. Love this place it’s always just the one dude working and it can get busy sometimes but the sandwiches are the best and priced super well. I always go with the combination but the grilled pork is super popular too. I’ve been going here for years and it’s always super consistent. The veggies they put is great and the meat is ok too. Fast service (unless there are 10 sandwich order ahead of you). I remember when they used to be $1.50 for a bbq chicken sandwich. You simply cannot get a better, cheaper lunch in the area, so ignore all those fast food chains. The Banh Mi are made to order and they are all great. Stray outside your comfort zone and order a sandwich filling other than the BBQ chicken, and you wont be disappointed. Evidently you can still get three dollars banh mi in 2019 just need to do some research and travel. This shop has markings from the 90s your typical viet deli cafe scene. It actually remind me of a deli in Tampa many years ago when I was living there. Seating is very limited to a few tables out front mostly take-out and parking is a challenge depending on your vehicle size. You might encountered some wait time due to one person working the front, but if youve already place your order theres no need to worry the guy wont forget. Grilled pork sando was a bit on the drier side, but tasty and flavorful baguette roll crunchy. Definitely a hidden gem in todays economy as you wont find anything cheaper and delightful as this place.

I love Bánh Mis (Vietnamese sandwiches), and his menus pretty affordable (especially in El Cerrito), but 2/3 of the time he always gives me STALE bread! Almost all of the time when I go he always has a big group of Vietnamese families or friends sitting outside eating-- I REALLY doubt he would be so popular with fellow countrymen if he was passing off stale bread to everyone! So maybe Im paranoid but it seems like just because Im an ABC and speak only English, hes being selective about who he give better quality ingredients to.

Some incomparable sandwiches in the bay area. After eating here once, it will be difficult to limit yourself to a sandwich.
