What is not to love about Chester’s?! Best Chinese food in Ventura County. The walnut shrimp is my favorite. We have tried many different dishes and have loved them all. The decorations and also make this place very special.
Awesome Chinese restaurant! Great little place to eat. Its usually crowded but the wait time is decent. Its festively decorated. The food is what brings people back year after year. It opened in 1963 by the original Chester and been owned by family members ever since. Its been at the same location for 60 years. Open for lunch and dinner. Its a must try if you enjoy good Chinese cuisine!
Went on Christmas day in the evening ad it is mother in laws birthday and weve been doing this for years. We made reservations for 530 and were seated at 620pm our egg rolls came out quickly but they were cold. The balance of our food took over an hour to come out. People were waiting 2 + hours for their food. I think they need to rethink their service and food cooking because this was the worst ever. We made reservations hoping it would be better but it was horrible. Food was good as always and hot but took way too long we didnt leave until almost 9 PM!
They dont take reservations for parties under eight, so, when we got there, there was a line out the door as they had two parties of six that they were unprepared for. There was nobody greeting or seating guests as the ONLY two employees in the place were scrambling to set the two tables for six. There were about twelve additional people standing in a line outside of the door and no seating for them as they waited. Our party of five walked out as did another party of four. With this type of management theyre losing customers due to them being understaffed and disorganized. And, this was on a Saturday night so, no thanks Chesters. If you get your act together, maybe well try you again, but you obviously need a normal reservation system and more employees.
Best Chinese restaurant in Camarillo! Great decorations by owner Keith based on season and great food with a personal touch. Going there for 33 years and counting. There was a small queue to get the table.Our last visit, the food was absolutely the best one can ask for. We ordered 4 items. Hot and Sour soup, sizzling chicken with black bean sauce, green beans and veg. Pan fried Noodles. We came back so full and, fully satisfied! Chesters Asia is the best.I have seen some comments about the cleanliness of the plates and oily water, I carefully checked and saw nothing. Will keep going to Chesters Asia!
Our first time going there with my 2 year old daughter and my nephew. The food came quickly and was nice and hot. Everything was absolutely delicious. The waiter, David, was probably the best waiter I’ve had ever. He was attentive, accommodating and absolutely amazing in every way. He brought my daughter a few “chicken strips” and her own Shirley Temple that we didn’t even order. David was the sweetest. He also made sure we had plenty of drink refills. The food was superb. We’ll be back every few weeks from now on!
Live this place!! Owner is so nice and takes the time to chat with his guests. Decor is always changing and is so pretty. Food is delicious. Ordered cashew chicken, orange chicken and pork fried rice. All were served piping hot and tasted great!!!!
I brought my 2 teenager boys to enjoy a lunch together and was sadly disappointed by the food.The service was excellent 👌 👏 Prompt refills on water and soda without having to ask. Very attentive service.The food was not good.My kids ordered orange chicken, it was bland, a little tough and chewy, like it had been fried a few days ago. Couldnt taste the chicken at all.I got the lemon chicken. I was confused by the texture of the meat. It looked like many thin layers of philo dough squished together to make a chicken patty, odd flavor. It was drowning in the lemon sauce dressing, this was not appealing nor appetizing. I only took a few bites, I couldnt eat more even though I was hungry. I left hungry and lil nauseous from my plate.I remembered this place differently. Idont know if the chef changed, food or recipes but I will not spend my money here again.
Had reservations at 5 were seated at 620. Went on Christmas as it is my mother-in-laws Birthday and its only kind of food available. Egg rolls were cold, we had walnut shrimp which didnt have pineapple and were cold. It took over an hour for our food to be received. We had to ask water, so disappointed for her birthday♧
I love Chesters. Been a loyal customer for over 30 years. Only 4 stars because they only had 2 waiters and we had to wait a long time to order. But the food was great as usual.
The orange chicken and walnut shrimp are my favorite. They even threw in some free egg rolls! Fast service
I had compound shrimp and Orange beef and their famous hot and sour soup. There is nothing better when you have a cold than Chesters hot and sour soup. Service was great although there were very few people in the restaurant. Chesters has been around for a long time and although some people like other places better it will always be my favorite for Chinese food.
We were treated very rudely. It took one and a half hours to get our lunch. Most of the food was cold. None of the staff communicated with us at all. I will never go back. I cant recommend this place to anyone.

Went to this restaurant for my sons birthday celebration. Walking in, I noted the ambiance with dimmed lighting. The place has a very Italian atmosphere, interestingly. The food was very good, no complaints there, but service was slightly slow as they were extremely busy & maybe a bit understaffed. We were without drink refills for a time, reminding our waiter, who remedied this with a friendly attitude. I mentioned it was my sons birthday, so at the end of our meal the waiter brought out a special fruity drink & we sang HB. Restaurant customers even joined in, very nice! Giving the benefit of the doubt, I would go back to this restaurant again :)
Tasty food! Had Kung Pao Chicken (good flavor) and my wife had Honey Pepper Beef (excellent). Both were yummy. Ive had better hot sour soup, but that was my only tiny niggle as the rest was great!
Outstanding food every time so far.Been there 4 times. The cream cheese filled wontons are really good. Full of cream cheese. Egg rolls were very light and crispy. Lunch dishes are delicious. Egg drop and hot & sour soups are great. But, I personally dont like the round soup noodles. I prefer crispy ribbon noodles instead.Getting the crispy duck soon.
Best Chinese food I had in a long time! Our family stopped by Chesters Asia restaurant on the way to Santa Barbara. We had bbq pork, sautéed vegetables, chicken chow mein, shrimp with walnut, honey pepper beef and orange chicken.Every dish was seasoned to perfection, every ingredients were fresh, sauces were well balanced not overpowering, a sign of true master chef. The staff also provided excellent service making our dining experience even better. What a gem this place is! I strongly recommend this restaurant and would definitely visit again!

Would have given them no stars but thats not allowed evidently. They ruined our Christmas dinner! We placed our order at 11am for a 5:30 pick up. Waited in a line of 30+ people for an hour, decided to leave having nothing for dinner as nothing in town was open, ridiculous! Read other reviews of people getting undercooked food and wrong orders. I guess it was just as well we didnt get our food, someone would have definitely gotten sick!

The food isnt amazing, you can find much better Chinese options in the area. The ketchup with the crispy noodle pieces they serve as an appetizer threw me off, and not much else elevated the meal past that.The interior looks like the place used to be a gaudy Italian restaurant at some point; with ornate ceiling tiles, decorative columns and guilded molding throughout, with still life paintings of wine glasses, cheese and grapes adorning the walls.Im not sure how well they clean this place or their dishes either, there was lipstick on the water glass they gave to my husband, and glancing under the table briefly I noticed a circa 96 mauve napkin that looked unlike the white ones they had on the table.
Pretty nice place! The vibe is part Roman Coliseum, part Italian coast.. if that makes sense. Its pretty tightly packed inside, but still feels open when you sit down. The service is great, pur server was by our table every 2 or 3 minutes refilling waters, bringing whatever we requested. We had a party of 9, ordered 7entrees and we have plenty of leftovers. Very large family size portions. Flavor could have used a bit of love, but not bad by any means. Maybe just use salt and pepper a little less sparingly? In a nutshell, I will definitely come back with my family!
This place is FABULOUS!! Food is super tasty and Staff is just so helpful and kind. I will definitely be coming back to Chesters, if you have not tried it yet, I encourage you to do so. You wont regret it 😊
This place has my favorite drunken noodles of all time. Im a meat-eater, but my fiancé is vegetarian, and the tofu drunken noodles might be my new go-to. Rather than stealing his Ill just order my own next time ;)The egg rolls are awesome too!
I love to go to Chesters for dine in or take out. The vegetable fried rice is my all time favorite of any Chinese restaurant. There are many well prepared traditional dishes. They have great lunch specials between 11am an 3pm. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit.
Got the beef and broccoli and the egg rolls. The most bland Chinese food I have ever had. Asked for the beef and broccoli to be made spicy, and it has almost no flavor at all. The egg rolls are really just spring rolls, and they are some what decent, but not your classic egg roll at all. Dont get all the hype about this place. I also called before the lunch menu ended, and they tried charging me the dinner price. 11/10 avoid.
I love the food but when you order to go they tell you 20 minutes and it ends up being an hour. This happens on the weekends. Just be ready to wait or just add 30 minutes to the time they give you cus it’s always late!
Its a confusing place. Definitely slow unfriendly service. One host was overly nice seems like shes in an abusive relationship with the restaurant. I had one really nice server once but the rest seem like they hate being there and never smiled once. Reluctant to give us whatever it was we asked for. The food is really good! Im a server and actually didnt tip because of how bad the service was. Its gotta be pretty bad if a server isnt tipping.
My family has been going to Chesters since my mother was a little girl and weve loved every visit. The owners and staff are polite, nice, and courteous, and the food is easily the best Chinese in the county. Their lunch specials are incredibly generous for the price, and their family meals always ensure you have a ton left over. Definitely make this one of your usual spots.
This is one of our favorite Chinese restaurant when we want to eat Kung Pao chicken, Orange Chicken, Pepper Steak, Walnut shrimp and Crispy Pork to name a few. Kids love the soft chicken noodles and will request to eat at Chester Asia!
Just ate there. Aweful service. Waiters were arguing with each other. Soup was good egg rolls were good. Then we got the beef and broccoli and waited 10 min before the rice and orange chicken came out. By this time the beef and broccoli was cold. The food was not much better then Panda Express but panda is much cleaner. We had to ask for water cups to be filled at least 5 times. We will not be going back. We like sesame garden and normally eat there but they are closed on mondays so we tried Chester’s.
Great Restaurant!!! If your looking for the atmosphere of the great Chinese restaurants mostly long gone...well this is it! Great menu, I had the Szechuan Shrimp.... Delicious! The hot and sour soup was a great starter to ignite my taste buds. Definitely going back! Enjoy!
My worst experience in a restaurant. I regret having accepted to have lunch there. I went with a group of 10 for my school farewell. We needed two more forks and cups and I went to look for help. One of the servers, a lady, started yelling at me to go back to my seat. Then the server, an elder Asian guy, who was to serve at our table was yelling at me for about three minutes because I asked another employee for two cups. He was very disrespectful in front of my friends. I was so ashamed that I just wanted to go but I didn’t want to make a drama especially that my friends were there. I won’t ever recommend that place to anyone. I believe that customers deserve to be respected and having a server yelling at you for no good reason seems to be what I will remember this place for. Food wise the prices are rather high for what you get. Yelling and disrespecting customers is on the house.
Chesters is great. Honestly when I go there I dont go to converse with the staff I go there for food. They bring out the food and leave me alone. If I need something I raise my hand and let it be known Im in need and they come and get me what I need. Once again I love Chesters its great chinese food and satisfies my American palate. If anything maybe its too authentic for some people... For those that complain Ive been coming here for a bit now and the service is to the point the dishes and utensils have never been dirty the food can sometimes be a bit bland when theyre busy, but ive been to P.F Changs many a times and there food taste like overpriced puddle water to me so I give Chesters a much deserved 5/5
Stopped in for some Hot n Sour soup. It was excellent. We eat there quite often and the food is very good. Sometimes you have to wait because there is a line, for lunch and dinner. They also do a lot of takeout so you can order over the phone and pick it up. You wont be disappointed.
Chesters Asia Chinese Restaurant is one of those local charms that anyone who likes Chinese food will enjoy. The decor is outrageous. When you go in for a meal you never quite know what colorful and creative display is going to amaze you. The food is consistently good. I always know that dinner at Chesters is going to be well-prepared and tasty. The menu is typical and does not contain too many unique/authentic dishes. The wait staff is always attentive and you will not be rushed. Enjoy! it is worth the few minutes you may have to wait for a seat!
First time here ordered the Chicken chow mein (soft noodles). Amazing!!!...what taste, brought me to you know where (gotta have a moment). I will come back again for that experience. Place has history written all over it. Owner is a hard working man!... impressed. This restaurant been here in Camarillo a long time and it shows. My Chinese go to place now.
Cheaters Asia had gone down hill. I used come here A LOT for take out. Came to eat here for lunch and the service is OK it took them awhile to sit you because no one is at the front to greet and seat incoming customers, food is so so... I am giving them 1 star because of the following reasons; the utensils are dirty and the dipping sauce tasted fishy (its not even for a fish dish). The utensils looked cloudy(not shiny at all, kinda looked like calcium from hard water but a little oily) so I tried to wipe it hard with the napkin and the cloudy look disappered and the shine that I was looking for appeared...yes I dont know if their dish washer wasnt working good, obviously they need to make sure their utensils are shiny clean! So I asked for chopstick, the chopsticks were greedy i have to clean it...again! I asked for sweet sour sauce for my fried noodles, while waiting for my food, and it had an after taste I couldnt pin point the taste but after my second try... it sure tasted like the sauce had fish in it. The water is also greasy, maybe its from the glass. I hope they address these issues because I used to like Cheaters but I would not come back if its still like this!

The pork fried rice was the worst Ive ever had. It was saturated with oil making the texture greasy and heavy. There was even more oil at the bottom of the carton. So unhealthy and unpleasant to eat, yuck!To the manager &/or owner, I purchased the order of pork fried rice to go around 4 PM on 4/15/19 in case you want to figure out who was cooking at that time. Ive had it in the lunch special before and it was fine.
Chesters used to be my favorite restaurant - but what happened? We have been going to Chesters for 33 years, and its disappointing to visit it now.We went for lunch today at 1215 - restaurant 75% full. We were seated at a table that wasnt set-up event those around us has settings. The waiter didnt even acknowledge us for a full 12 min. As soon as he came to the table, we placed our orders. The appetizer came just moments before our lunches, OK, but they got cold as we ate our soup. Our lunches came just about as we finished the soup The entrees were wonderfully hot, but the rice was barely lukewarm and the egg rolls were cold.By this point, the restaurant was merely 1/2 full. The waiter never came back to check if our orders were OK. We had to go to the kitchen to ask for more hot tea, and they never brought the ice waters we asked for.This is the 4th time we have visited in the last 6 months or so - and its disappointing to repeatedly get such poor service.
Worst service ever! Went in here for a birthday lunch and the service was horrible. To start off our silverware was dirty and still had food on it. When we asked the lady to replace it she had a little but of an anoyed face but we shook that off.When we were ording, keep in mind we are here for a birthday so its a party of 8. When ordering the waiter was in a rush and again with an attitude said can u leave now? Now the waiter brings our food and rudely setting the food on the table arms right in your face. When we ask for sauce we get our sauce no problem. Now ask for more sauce and we get a snotty comment from the waiter, oh my god. Who does this!? And it was all down hill from there . It wasnt just me we all noticed they were being rude. Do not come here. Mediocre place. Ruined a lunch. Oh and at the end the waiter came out and argued with all of us. I have never seen or been treated like this anywhere. Even McDonalds has better service.

I like the food but the service and the attitude is just plainly the opposite. The waiter was very unprofessional. He was not very friendly, not even smiling and in a hurry to take our orders. When i handed the stub with only $3 as a tip coz thats what he deserved for being rude, he came back to me and complained why the tip was too small. He said he was working hard all day and if it is not $8 or more, dont bother to give a tip. I was so shocked but even though, I changed the $3 and wrote the tip to $8. I will not recommend this and surely will not go back there anymore!!!!
We had a group of 10 this evening and the food and service was a 4 star, maybe 5. However, when we went to pay and divided the bill between 5 couples we determined every couples contribution with 20% tip. 4 paid with cash and one with debt, one couple but in a $50 as part of their contribution. All of a sudden the $50 disappeared and we were being told we were short. We made up the difference and left. However I vowed that second I would never go back again and will share this experience with everyone I know. Generally we always use debt or credit and now I know it will never be anything but.
Best Peking duck around. I grew up going to this restaurant and loved it. I visited on Christmas Eve 12 years after moving away and the waiter recognized my family AND remembered my favorite dish there. Good people and good food.
I ordered the fried shrimp appetizer to compliment a meal . The shrimp were good sized, fried in heavy oil, not really crispy. The dipping sauce was watery and could have used a bit of chinese mustard for flavor. I burpee grease for hours. Order something else.
Our order was half cooked forgot to make are house noodles .so are sesame chicken wasCold and the sauce was dried up when we got home . They gave us some egg rolls for delayBest part of dinner. But disappointed overall.
Its ok. The chicken chow mein was good, orange chicken average. The fried noodles they leave on the table are kind of stale and smell/taste like everything going through the fryer. Pass on the fried shrimp appetizer.
After a year and a half they were finally opened for dining 8n. The servers were all new and very gracious and accommodating. It was a pleasure, and the food is always superb.

I know Christmas day can be crowded, but the crowds at Chester did NOT warrant the horrible service, lousy food: everything tasted like the SAME brown sauce whether it was Beef &Broccli, Beef Chowchilla Mein, or Beef & Scallops...the ribs were greasy,ect. When we asked for plates, our drink order...even water, we were met with rudeness. When the waiter brought the bill, he asked everything was, we said very poor. When we tried to explain, he shined us on, said Merry Christmas and WALKED AWAY. I made sure to tell several customers waiting to get in it wasnt worth the wait!!!
When I crave Chinese food, I immediately think of Chesters in Camarillo. The relatively plain exterior belies the colorful, eclectic and elegent interior. Staff magically appear when you close your menu, and are ready to order.And the food is not Americanized; the authenticity shines through in every bite. I am addicted to Shrimp with Lobster Sauce; Chesters makes a brown sauce, which is full flavor which compliments the yummy shrimp. Most Chinese restaurants Ive visited offer a white sauce, which is too bland and flat.Chesters hot and sour soup is hot and sour and oh, so comforting.I keep telling myself Ill try other dishes; too bad, Im hooked. This is the place to go if youre craving Chinese food; its been a favorite in Camarillo for 50 years.
When we dine out, we are hopeful that the server will come to our table at least once to ask how things are, refill water, etc. We thought the first time we were missed by fluke so we went again today. Unfortunately, the exact same situation occurred. Our server walked by us numerous times without making any contact until the end when he dropped off our bill. Never going back again. Very disappointing.

Possibly the best Chinese food you will find in the Camarillo area. This is a great place to go with a group, or even just 2 people. The shrimp with walnut is particularly delicious, remaining crispy while coated with a rich and creamy sauce.What was ordered: shrimp with walnut, chicken with Szechuan style, cashew nut with black mushroom and vegetable.
Every time I go to California, gotta eat here. Its delicious, the people is so kind, excellent service with a beautiful furniture. Definitely I love this restaurant.
One of the few, but decent Chinese restaurants in the area. I love their tofu dish (bean cake country style), pea shoots, dry sautéed string beans, eggplant casserole (a little too greasy though) and the spicy fried fish (might not be on the menu).
The server was incredible . Went on 6/30 . He was friendly, fast an always checking on our party of 7.
The vegetarian dish of Cashew Black Mushrooms was really delicious, as was the jasmin tea and crab Rangoon.

If you are a female it seems like they dont wait or aknowledge you. If you are a guy they give you the royal treatment. It smells and the staff has the worst attitude. They should be put out of business. I do not recommend this restaurant.
Avoid this place at all costs. If you must eat here,make sure that Charlie is not your waiter and please ask for a different one. Very rude, asked for a larger tip than my friends could give and then called him out in front of the entire restaurant for it. He should be fired.

There are a lot of things that I want to tell you guys. The food in here is astonishing especially the dimsums and the fried noodles that they make in here. I ordered a lot of vegetable dishes and they are all crispy and fresh.

They gave the lunch special which we really like that comes with an egg roll, the choice of a soup a side of rice & the main dish, for a very reasonable price! 💰. Another interesting fact about this place is that they have been here since the 60s, the restaurant has had some remodeling & it looks beautiful from the ceiling to the 🎨 art on their walls 🖼 is really pretty a real inspiration, it gives an atmosphere of tranquility while enjoying your taste buds 😋 👌!!!

We feasted on this meal until we popped & lets just say leftovers fed us several meals.We got a seafood soup to start, 🥦 Broccoli beef, BBQ 🐖 Pork and green bean, Ginger 🐟 Fish, Walnut 🍤 Shrimp, Chow Fun, Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Rice, Har Gao and Sesame Ball! It was around $160 for our family of 4, and we each got at least 3-4 plates of food.If you get to dine-in, it is such a lovely atmosphere! Service is excellent, and the Decor is very Opulent with mood lighting. My family continues to order Chesters for 12+ years now. Its our go-to in Camarillo.

2022-08-04 17:01:34I am really spoiled by good Chinese food. Knowing there are several different styles, I have to say this wasnt my favorite. Never the less I really liked this place. You feel as you stepped into a different times. The service is prompt and friendly. For me the food had a mild taste but my girls were happy. I almost didnt have a chance to try the fish how fast it was gone. Orange chicken is nice and everyone liked the BBQ pork fried rice. Nice place to dine, thank you

2023-08-10 22:22:07Came into a crowded restaurant. Despite the congestion, we were waited in within five minutes or so. We ordered one of the family meals for two. Food—copious amounts of it—began flowing out of the kitchen within three minutes of ordering. Four appetizers and three entrees, plus soup, for about $21 each. Full platters of the entrees, too, not individual plates. Generous portions and the food was very good. Hot and tasty but not salty. The only disappointment was the insipid, lukewarm tea which did not improve when a second pot arrived. Still in all, a very satisfying dinner experience. Will definitely return if I’m back in Camarillo.

2023-05-18 19:01:25This is hands down one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. The prices mixed with the quality of service and the food is always top notch when I go. The place has a old time feel to it with various decorations making it feel like 1800s France. I always get the dinner special because it comes with a lot of food for such a good deal. There is competitive parking because the parking lot is shared with toppers pizza. The place has over 5 booths and about 8 tables and it does tend to get busy.

2021-09-08 19:09:56We had heard about Chesters when my wife saw that it was the number 1 rated Chinese Cuisine in Camarillo and it did not disappoint! The portioning was also much more than we had anticipated. We ended up having some of the beef chow mein and half the Wonton Soup the following day. Nicki the front entrance host and gentle man we spoke to over the phone was five stars in service when I went into their beautifully decorated in-door restaurant to pick up our order.

Fast forward to 2021, received coupon from Chesters, looked at reviews and thought Id give this place a try since its Chinese New Year and I was craving Chinese food. Ordered from chefs special - shrimp with walnut, crispy beef, lemon fish and asked for recommendation for a chicken dish and went with cashew chicken. Was told order would take an hour to be ready, was fine with it as we were planning to do some shopping before pickup. The host was very nice and gave us free egg rolls and also offered to give cookies. The entrees came with steamed rice which was nice. I enjoyed the crispy beef and chicken dish that came with vegetables but the shrimp was really creamy and sweet which was weird to me. Fish was battered which was also sweet, not to my liking. The four dishes came up to $65 with big portions
