A quaint place to eat sushi but definitely one of my favorites! We come all the time. Never disappointed in the quality of food that is served.

Extremely disappointed. This place used to be so good. What happened? Granted its been some time since we ate here, but it went downhill quick!We were a party of five, who sat at the big (6 seat) table when you first come up the stairs. We were there February 8th, from 6:30pm - 7:30pm for dinner.This place is a RIP OFF!!! Full roll price but the rolls are way SMALLER than they used to be. The photos of the food portions in the menu DID NOT match what you were getting, you got way less. False advertising.My husband said the sushi was OK, used to be really good. I got chicken teriyaki for my daughter, the meat was low quality, and half of the meat was fat, it was gross, it tasted like frozen chicken.Our waitress was horrible. This woman was rude, unfriendly, and we felt rushed the entire time. She rolled her eyes at my husband when he said he needed more time to decide what he wanted.Normally you would order more than one roll after eating one, but by the time we were done, she rushed us with our bill and didnt ask us if we wanted anything else. We even left a bowl full of edamame because she rushed us out of there so fast. The restaurant wasnt busy to be rushed like that.I will say, the waitresses who were downstairs, all were very friendly and said goodbye to us as we were leaving.I regret not sending the food back, getting a refund and just leaving. We spent $70 (we split the bill with our party) at this place and walked out hungry.Its not just about going out and eating sushi, its about the experience as well. Needless to say, this felt like fast-food sushi and the waitress made this experience horrible for all of us.We will never go back.

Everything was tasty, service was on point as well. Lunch ends at 2:30 or so and dinner starts at 4:30 Google will say theyre open straight out to 9pm but if you go in between 2:30pm and 4:30pm they wont be open. Just wanted to mention that here for people so they dont go there on accident while they are closed since Google hasnt been updated with those hours. The side salad they serve was something new for me and loved the miso sesame dressing on it.
It was my husbands 76th Birthday he loves Sushi. Our son Darin had eaten at Hanami and reccomend it!! Ron loved it and Loves to watch them fix the food!! It was a win win and we will be back and Will not wait for his next Birthday!!! The waiters and Sushi chefs were very cordial as well!!

My wife and I had dinner here on a warm summer day and the sushi was awesome but we sat upstairs which was too warm...best to sit downstairs in summer...other than that the restaurant was very clean and beautiful..highly recommend as its in a beautiful area of downtown Auburn
The sushi is good, but the prices dont align with the product. I ordered a baked roll and it came out lukewarm. We also ordered extra sauce and they didnt tell us that they charged us up the ying yang for it.
I have heard numerous good things about hanami and honestly it has to be some of the best sushi Ive had in ages. I had their red dragon roll and a glass of plum wine and it was delicious. They put so much into making their food and atmosphere the best possible and everything tastes phenomenal. I had a lovely time and think I found my new favorite sushi ever
I had heard good things about this place. I was so disappointed. The service was horrible. Server was not friendly, handed us the menu and never said a word. The food did not taste fresh and was horrible. We had ordered sushi rolls and took only 2 bites. The worse part was when I went to the restroom there was a cockroach. So gross!!! I will never go back.
Great spot in Auburn for Sushi! Fish seems really fresh and the rolls are done very well. The two chefs (especially the older gent) are great personalities and the eldest is also damn good at what he does. My only qualm is that it can get a bit pricey BUT for a quality spot, its worth the price.
TERRIBLE. My husband and I made a special trip to include a visit to this sushi establishment for our 8 year anniversary. WE WAITED 30 MINUTES....NO SERVICE.When we first arrived we were seated outdoors directly in front of the front door, well within view of the several employees that walked right by us and served other patrons who were seated AFTER us.The kicker? When we first arrived, a woman who Im assuming may be an owner or management (assuming by the way she was dressed differently than the servers) sat us down. We asked if she could turn on the patio heater beside us. She claimed she didnt know how to work the device and asked my husband to try to turn it on. As he was attempting, a female server ran up to him speaking VERY loudly and in a disciplinary tone, demanding that he stop touching the heater telling him, he should have never touched the heater. We explained that the woman that sat us down ASKED him to turn it on but she continued arguing that my husband, at the ripe young age of 58, apparently has never seen a propane heater in his life.Id like to hope that management would see this account of our horrible experience, but somehow I sincerely doubt they would care. Would give zero stars if possible.
I tried this place again for the third time.. I must say, the food is good, but not excellent.. and the service... the owners are clearly running the place, and why they can’t have a smile and a hello when you walk in the door is shocking. I give three stars for the food, and the server Sonny.. Sonny, deserves 5 stars, she walked up to the table with a smile and was happy to take care of us.. As for the rest of the place, I mean, the little things are the difference between going there and going up the street to Ninja Sushi, where the food is great and the service is great! I hope the owners will read this review and appreciate Sonny, who was the only reason we stayed. Honestly it felt like they just didn’t even care a party of three just came in to spend $100 on a dinner that was just alright..
This is a gem in Auburn. The crunch role is the best. They are good with kids and very friendly. Never had a bad meal here, highly recommended. It can be busy so call for reservations ( few do so it makes it easy to get in)
Fantastic service! Ordered togo and the hostess was so friendly and made it a very enjoyable experience ordering ahead. I can appreciate how easy everything was. Even more satisfied with my food! It was wonderful and everything was made so fresh. I would recommend anyone in the area come here for lunch or dinner. Very cute area too!
We love this place! Amazing food and service. We had lunch there today and while we ate they closed after lunch like usual. We have a newborn baby and he started crying while we finished up eating. The owner came over and stood by our table as she bounced with our baby. He stopped crying and was very happy with her. Thank you for being so kind and caring about your customers. We will forever be a customer.
I would have given 3 1/2 stars if I could. Their sushi has gotten better the longer theyve been around. But its still not as good as a high end sushi restaurant. That being said, it still taste pretty good. Restaurant is a kind of small, service was decent. For the price and the location I guess I cant really complain. Still worth eating at on occasion.
The green mussels are amazing. Make sure if you are ordering them, you order them first because they take awhile, but they are definitely worth the wait. This place is a hole in the wall, but definitely a good place to have sushi in the Auburn area.
My family has been going to Hanami Sushi for nine years and we havent cotton tired of it yet. Its really hard to find affordable and good quality sushi, but Hanami fits both criterias. The food is great the restaurant has both seating outside and inside which includes an upstairs. I highly recommend it🍣🍤🍢💞
We usually go to another Sushi place in Auburn, which is closer to home. They were closed Monday, so we thought we would try Hanami Sushi.....we now have a new favorite!! Food was delicious!!..Great staff too
I got a Philly tool Togo. It said 13$ I payed out the door 27 with a 4 dollar tip that they did not earn. It was aweful. Im greatful for Safeway sushi after this. Just a noviltie for kids to do sushi bombs. Dont go
Thank you Hanami for putting together a delicious lunch feast for our office! From start to finish our experience was fantastic! Friendly and accommodating customer service followed by a flawless sushi lunch brought smiles to our entire staff.
The food was decent but they were training a new server and when she messed up our order and our dinner was served poorly management did not take care of correcting our bill to reflect that mistake. Our miso soup was server along side our meal very hard to enjoy that way since the dinner plates are quite large. Also do not order their tea it was horrible my sons was so over steeped as to be undrinkable. Would I return noooooo. We love sushi but though the food was good it was impossible to enjoy when treated that way.

We were recommended to come here since I ruined my glasses and needed it repaired. While I was waiting on it to get fixed, Anna from Wattswerks Optical across the street told us we had to try the food here.she was spot on with her recommendation!Oh my gosh the food here was fantastic.their miso soup was great too! Nice to say it has been the same owners and quality for many years. The other 2 sushi places in town are only open because of the good will created by the previous owners. Basicly, if you want sushi in Auburn there is only one choice.

Hanami Sushi has been a family favorite of ours for the last 7 years. The service is always prompt and friendly. The portions are good as well as the prices and the food is excellent.

This place closes at 2:30 P.M to prepare for dinner service, which starts at 4:30 P.M. My girlfriend and I went in yesterday at around 2:00 P.M and were given a rude greeting, with the manageress coming to our table and saying We close at 2:30, so next time get here earlier. Thats already a bad start. She hands us our menus and leaves. One minute later she comes back, no water or anything, and asks if were ready to order. We were not, so we said no. She then impatiently and sarcastically responds Take your time, take your time! Her vile attitude put us off so much that we got up and left then and there.I dont think we came in at a particularly bad time; 30 minutes is ample for the kitchen to make us our food before closing. The manageress had no conceivable reason to treat us like that. Its a shame really because I used to enjoy going to this restaurant frequently, and now Ill never set foot in there again. The manageress should learn a thing or two about customer care before attempting to run a restaurant.
A small comforting restaurant. Very great tasting sushi! Great service and awesome sushi chef. He gave me a free side dish for ordering lots of yellowtail related dishes. Ive been there a few times and i would go back.
Weve never tried this place before, so this was our first time in and most likely our last. It took us at least 5 minutes to be seated.. we were not greeted when we first walked in, we had to initiate and ask for a table. After finally getting seated. We sat there for at least 15 plus minutes with no drinks, no one checked on us, no orders were taken. It was ridiculous! They need to figure out staffing.
My family enjoyed our lunch here. It’s located in beautiful downtown auburn. Beautiful during Christmas. Chefs are nice and I liked the food here very much. Would recommend.

Great sushi! Consistently fresh tasting with fabulous flavors. My absolute favorite is the old auburn roll, though I do have to say the new auburn roll comes in as a close second!
Service is slow. Two wait staff for a full house at dinner time. Thirty minutes and still no water. Took an hour to get the food. The nagiri and sashimi was warm and tasted a day old. Not going back.
Best Sushi place that I have ever been to! I love the small atmosphere and the intimate feel of the place. Sushi is always pricey wherever you go, but worth it for sure here
This place is great! They have amazing sushi, not over sauced like so many other sushi joints (Mikunis). They have just enough sauce to compliment the sushi itself. The ammount of food you get is HUGE for the price (rolls are somewhere between 8 and 14 dollars). Great Sake selection as well. Two thumbs up!

Great local sushi restaurant! I had ordered the beef and chicken teriyaki bento boat and I was served my food in a literal boat! Inside is very compact which could be a downside with annoying customers, however when I visited I was greeted with very friendly and hard working staff and great food. Will be returning with family soon.
Their prices are really on the high side. Their food is good but be prepared to pay dearly for it. To make matters worse the owner had the best boy come out and snag the cash tip we left for the waitress. Be careful because this owner keeps the tips your waitress will never see it.
This is by far one of my all time favorite sushi restaurants. Its a cutely decorated hole in the wall with fresh fish and competitive prices. I love that they dont over sauce their rolls, they have a little something for everyone.
I had high hopes for this place after seeing reviews. When seated I noticed how pretty the inside was decorated and I decided right then that this will be our new sushi spot. I ordered the caterpillar roll. Since the menu only stated sauce I asked the waitress if the listed sauce was the brown unagi sauce (being a person that cant stand the taste of mayo I always know to ask about any sauce) she told me it was so I was set, no gross white sauce. When the food arrived I was very disappointed to see that my roll was smothered in white. I hesitated to say anything. I really do not like being that difficult customer. But I was starving and knew I couldnt eat it. I mentioned to the waitress that I had asked about the sauce and she said it was unagi but this was not unagi. She then pointed out that the menu says sauce and that it comes with both. She was nice enough and picked up the plate to remake it but the boss interviened and said that they dont remake and then put us both on the spot and asked wells whos fault was it I definately did not want to get the waitress in trouble so i really didnt know how to respond but she was already picking up the menu and pointing to it letting me know it states sauce. So obviously I should know it came with both. She was very hesitant to remake it. I didnt press it but I told her Id pay but i cant eat that. She seemed irritated that i simply didnt like it and it wasnt because of an allergy or a real reason. Finally she reluctantly had them remake it. When it arrived I noticed I did not get the roll I ordered but a different similar roll. Whatever I guess. We werent really checked on from the original waitress after that and the whole experience felt awkward. We took it all to go after a few minutes of trying to eat. My boyfriend said the sauce did taste just like miracle whip. All and all the service was awkward and not a nice experience at all. We will not be back. Cant say much about the food since I didnt eat it. The sushi chefs seemed super nice though.
I ordered takeout. When I got home I discovered that I had been given salmon teriyaki, but I had ordered saba which is grilled mackerel. Dont get me wrong, all the food was tasty including the salmon, but I was in the mood for mackerel. I think this could have been avoided if they would have the phone somewhere more quite. When I called in, there was so much background noise that the person who answered kept talking over me. 4 stars for the food. 3 stars for the wrong order. I will probably order from here again.
I have visited this restaurant 4 time and only had one meal. It was good.. Sadly the owners apparently dont understand the power of keeping their social media advertising current.

Great sushi/Japanese restaurant. Of course their rolls are delicious, but their chicken katsu, potato croquettes, and gyoza are also favorites of ours. They also have the glass ball soda which is always never enough 😋
My go to sushi restaurant in Auburn since its do close.Bruce and the staff are family owned and operated. They give killer rolls and specials. Ive never been disappointed with this place my favorites are the monkey which is a deep fried apparugaus avacado sammon and the Alaskan double which is sammon appon sammon. Theres tons of options and make your own rolls and cheap alteraties along with veggie rolls. The meso soup is the only thing Ive never really liked but its because I like a lot of tofu but other than that everything is to die for.
Mama san was so friendly and welcoming. The staff are wonderful and very sincere. The food was AWESOME!!!!! Merry Christnas you guys!!! :)

The food is excellent I’ve been to more then 20 sushi restaurants and this one is by far the best on I’ve had my favorite is the Golden gate it’s a deep fried roll or if u like the cold rolls the I would suggest the tropic it has fresh mango on top and others but you’ll have to try for your self to see and then if u have kids who don’t like sushi yet then just give them a miso soup and a bento box the food their for me always comes out in about 10 to 15 minuets when it’s not as busy otherwise 20 minuets but they always try there busy to get u seated down right away which I love that and there appetizers are great they always come out warm same with the sushi like a baked or deep fried roll it always comes out warm, it’s a great place to have lunch or dinner and right after dinner u can get tangos which is a great frozen yogurt place.

Having lived in Japan for many years I can tell you this is an authentic Japanese experience. I visited on a very crowded night and witnessed the staff squeezing the best out of a very small kitchen. I had some nigiri and a bento box with tempura and teriyaki chicken. It was all very good. Ill be back

2023-01-08 04:26:00Our first dinner at Hanami and the service was great. The restaurant was quite full so we ate at the bar. We had calamari, 911 roll, Auburn roll, and New Player. All very good and tasty. The electricity went out because of a strong storm and they made our last roll in candlelight! Everyone there was so very nice and patient with the difficulty of no power. Well definitely be back!

2023-01-24 06:45:23This is by far the best sushi in Auburn. I have spent my birthday here several times, and they are more than accommodating. The owners are hands-on and super hospitable. Their upstairs loft is great for larger tables. Their fish is always fresh, and their rolls are great value. Try the oh my God roll. Itll knock your socks off.

2022-08-07 21:43:10So my first time at Hanami Sushi.I was very impressed.I always start by ordering a sashimi,The cut stakes of assorted fish is always how to tell if your eating at a good restaurant or not.I could tell by the taste of the Salmon and Tuna that I found a Good place.$127.00 for seven Rolls and one plate of sashimi and a Poki salad. I was pleased and very happy with all my orders.On the other hand I would recommend going a little after the lunch rush.

2017-08-28 03:38:19Absolutely one of the most incredible experiences Ive ever had eating sushi. Bruce, the man who makes the sushi, recommended the Red Dragon roll and the OMG roll. Both were phenomenal. Bruce was not only an excellent chef, but his manners and witty humor were beyond compare. I live around the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento and I will definitely be finding the time to return here soon.
