No one in Monterey county doing it quite like Julia’s! One of the best places doing veggie/vegan out here. Also, I believe almost everything can be modified to vegan.Every time I come I always get delicious food & amazing customer service. Today’s waiter (I unfortunately didn’t get his name) was so attentive and sweet! He is new to Julia’s but left a lasting impression on my family and I. Definitely a local gem that must be supported!Can’t wait to be back when I’m in the area.

This was a surprising discovery on our visit to Monterey bay. The food was delicious. The yellow curry dish was mildly spicy and a great combination of flavors. As a vegetarian its great to get tasty and well prepared dishes. I am definitely dining here again any time in the bay.As an added bonus there is an electrify America ev charging station right next to the Safeway nearby.

This place is just AMAZING. We absolutely loved everything that we ordered here. I especially liked the fried mushrooms, yellow coconut curry, roasted artichoke pizza, hot chocolate, the psychedelic kumbucha, brownie (vegan).The faux orange chicken was also good, but maybe I didnt particularly enjoy it as much as other things. Definitely try the fried mushrooms with lemon.

What a lovely little place in PG inside of a strip mall. We went there for dinner on Friday 11/24 and the place was full (recommend making a reservation through yelp). It is a relatively small restaurant, but great homey ambience (with live music on weekends) and a very friendly wait staff. This is an all vegetarian menu with lots of vegan options, so if you are either this is your place. Even if you are not vegetarian or vegan, the food here is excellent and you will not miss meat during the meal. We got the cauliflower wings and their California pizza and both were excellent. They also make fresh desserts at the restaurant which looked delectable (we were too full to try). Also, dont forget to visit their jungle themed restrooms... apparently there is a scary one and a more fun one. I only tried the fun one ;-)

Found through a Google search — entrance felt a bit simple, and the bathroom was definitely very unique — but the food is definitely worth noting!! The squash soup was amazing — we considered purchasing some to take home. The cauliflower wings were Gluten free and delicious — the sauce was next level. The salads were huge — a bit overdressed — but the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The pizza was “next level” (as described by someone in our party) — cut in to 8 slices it was something two kids could share (though the price tag was a bit high). One note is that the huevos rancheros were the one dish that we would not recommend — everything else was so amazing that you should try something else.

Some of the best Vegan food I’ve found in the Monterey/Santa Cruz region! The pizza is phenomenal and the salads filling, fresh, and beautiful. Great service and live music made for an excellent atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back :)

It was so stuffy in the inner dining area and they claimed they didn’t have the remote for the small ceiling fan. So if it’s a warm day try to sit outside or in primary dining area. The entrees (yellow curry and cauliflower chicken) tasted really good. For my taste, the chilaquiles were bland and not crunchy at all. The restrooms are so interesting and unique. Definitely a place you must try :)

Been here a couple times now. Food does not disappoint. And Im not a vegetarian either. Make sure to order their pizzas as I still think about it to this day. Food does take awhile to make after ordering, but its to be expected during dinner service. Parking is tight and gets filled fast in this small plaza. There is only 1 restroom in the restaurant so be aware but it does have a cool cave theme that you have to check out if you get a chance to.

All the dishes revolve around mushrooms!! Very cool restaurant with interesting twists on dishes, we learned a lot about new mushroom types from our servers. The lions mane mushroom was delicious. Highly recommend the pumpkin curry and the arugula pizza.Pro-tip: check out both of the bathrooms when you go here, they are an experience!!

Pleasantly surprised the food was very good, enjoyed the fried egg 🥚 sandwich 🥪 with one regular and one vegan egg. Faux orange 🐔 chicken was tasty too. Sauses were done really well. Prices were ok, parking was easy, service was good (did take a bit of time between ordering and arrival).

An absolute gem for vegetarian and vegan people. We had dinner on two occasions and breakfast once in a span of two days and were not disappointed at all. This place is incredible! The food, staff, and space are amazing. They know their mushrooms, too! Everything we tried was fantastic! We had the porcini scallops - the mushrooms really did have a texture reminiscent to scallops but I could drink the sauce. Divine! I had the spinach and lilacep calzone and my husband had the curry. Both were delicious. Everything can be made vegan and many things can be made gluten free. The vegan cheese is high quality. Highly recommend!!

What an amazing restaurant and experience!The people working here are amazing - friendly, hospitable, fun, lovely and super energetic. The menu is lovey and a vegetarian haven. Loved the food here! We ordered one of the brunch entrees - Huevo Ranchero, simple salad with cilantro dressing and a chai kombucha. Out of all the three items, I’d specially recommend Huevo Ranchero as it was pretty satisfying and had the best crispy paprika potatoes. If you’re not a fan of regular eggs then you can opt for vegan eggs too.

WOW! Yellow curry is AMAZING! Bursting with vibrant colors and flavor, it’s a must have for the curry fan. Also had some of my wife’s lilacep mushroom calzone and was blown away with the flavor. We ended the night with a warm triple chocolate brownie and bananas foster. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable of menu and it’s ingredients. Wonderful breakfast! I had two real eggs, and it’s chef’s choice so I got sunny side up, delicious! The avocado 🥑 was perfect and I pair it with mushrooms the Lions mushrooms soo goood! Fantastic breakfast. Nothing bad to say about the food or service. We had pretty much everything on the breakfast menu and everything exceeded expectations. I had the Egg Sandwich with potatoes and the flavor from the first bite was impressive. Recommended for both meat and non-meat eaters.

We found Julias while searching for gluten free options and man are we glad we did. The food was excellent - my only complaint is that we couldnt try it all. We loved the buffalo cauliflower and fried mushrooms, and my partner and I shared the yellow curry and tamale pie - both flavorful, and with the perfect level of heat. The group with us also tried the California pizza and raved about that too (though they didnt get the GF crust, so I didnt try that one).All in all, an excellent stop for anyone who needs vegetarian or gluten free options, or just loves delicious food. Highly highly recommend.

We loved this place, finding it after driving from Cupertino. We are vegan and delighted in the mushroom sampler, had the mushroom pizza and the dessert was all fabulous! I dont understand the high praise for this restaurant. We must have caught them on a bad night.One meal turned up cold. After pointing this out they remade the meal. It turned up hot but with about 3 times the amount of sauce as it originally arrived with. They did remove this from our bill.The artichoke pizza was so-so. The gluten free base was alright. But too much arugula. And the sauce overwhelmed the artichoke.Kombucha was good. And glad to hear it was brewed by them rather than out of a bottle.This wasnt value for money, even with the meal removed. So we wont be returning.

This place made me want to move from New York to Monterey. Their food was SO good, the mushroom pairing thing is such a cute idea - The whole mushroom theme was great. The vibe of the restaurant was great, their bathroom decor is PERFECTION (make sure to use it before you leave). Staff was all very very friendly. This place was great! I am an omnivore but went to dinner here with my vegan friend and we were both happy. The cauliflower buffalo wings were so delicious Im having dreams about them and their salads are great. Their jackfruit tamales were indistinguishable from pork ones. We love this place, drove from Morgan Hill to have lunch here on a lovely day in February 2021! We started with the fried oysters mushrooms that are similar to calamari but BETTER! I had the Lavender kombucha and my husband had mango lemonade, both delicious and refreshing. Well this place was vegan and rated well. Visited and had Thai green curry, Tamale pie, Empanados, California Pizza and French Toast with ice cream. The last dish was a great dessert. The ladies taking care of the place were too good... both of them. One serving was quite enthusiastic and the other lady was meticulous in taking care of dishes and spoons. The lady with a grey sweater hand wiped spoons with a towel. They also had a glass tumbler drying machine. Overall worth a visit for vegans.Thai curry and pizza were better of the four main dishes.

This was an incredible find for my wife and I while vacationing in Pacific Grove. Ive been vegetarian for many years, and Julias has become my favorite vegetarian restaurant! The food is fresh, very flavorful, and presented wonderfully. The locally sourced wild mushrooms were the star of the show. The staff was so friendly and knowledgable and we felt like we were visiting at a friends house. The location is very small, so at peak times expect a wait!

The place has a shared parking with other shops, so parking can be tricky.Overall the restaurant has a old look, so it was nice experience. They have seating plan both inside and outside.Their Yellow Curry was really tasty. It had a lot of flavors and was properly cooked. Albeit pricey for the quantity but something to try.They can take some time to process the order; although it wasnt really a long wait, but when asked for the wait, they said that they process To Go orders so that adds up time. Maybe something for the management to look into.But overall a nice experience. Would recommend to try!

Julias is some of the best food on the peninsula, let alone vegetarian food. I have tried about half the menu here and every item is incredible - fascinating flavors, great textures, lovely and rustic presentation. The prices are good and the staff are humble and sweet. We saw this place and thought of it as excellent place to go for lunch as it has really interesting menu items. Well we were disappointed. First the staff was friendly so all the Stars are for them. The food - we didn’t enjoy much. We ordered roasted artichokes and the main entree that we wanted to order wasn’t available so we had to go with what the staff recommended- yellow curry. Well it was okay- no spice - not enough rice compare to curry proportions. We also ordered a orange juice and they gave bottled juice in glass for 3$. The plates were looking dirty in the sun. We were very disappointed with the place in general and we paid 40$ for this lunch. Overall we would not go there again.

I really liked the direction they are going with the mushrooms as I’m a wild forager but there were a few misleading parts about the meal I didn’t appreciate but I’ll start with the good!The appetizers were great, we had the artichoke dip & squash fungi soup. The drink we got with candy cap mushroom was also awesome.The parts I’d be conscientious of are the portions of added mushrooms you can add to your entree.I got the Mexican tamale and added the $9 chanterelle option which I can tell you with certainty was a misleading sized portion and most definitely NOT more then a few chanterelles, mainly comprising a mix of just run of the mill cremini mushrooms.That felt like a massive rip off and the sever who wasn’t really all that friendly even when she dropped something and we picked it up for her without even a thank you (clearly overworked) didn’t give it more then a quick comment towards it saying there were a messily 40 grams of chanterelles in the add on....Why are they saying you’re getting chanterelle when it’s actually a mushroom melody with nearly any chanterelles?Definitely misleading.The other entree we got was the squash pasta de fungi and it was very watery vs. rich and creamy sauce like you might expect for a pasta. Both my girlfriend and I thought it was actually a ramen, not a pasta. It wasn’t all that great for the price being $21.Again I like what they’re up to here with vegetarian and mushroom options but I’ve travelled enough, eaten at a ton of awesome restaurants and actually forage mushrooms professionally and I can tell you that the price for the mushroom portion was far from fair.I would eat here again, and give it another shot but I wouldn’t get added mushrooms to my meal and would be more weary of the entrees.

THEY LOVE MUSHROOMS! This was a delightful spot with great service. It was too cold to take advantage of the outside seating - 2 wood bench seat nooks each with a personal heater wrapped in trellises and ivy. The food was delicious - perfect, fat roasted artichokes with delicious vegan aioli & a Mushroom truffle Flatbread with arugula and a tasty crust flavored with truffle salt. We ate at Julia’s twice during our weekend in Pacific Grove because it’s just THAT GOOD. All of their food is vegan with the exception of two menu items. For dinner we had the tamale pie and yellow curry (which is the best curry we’ve ever had), and you must order the brownie for dessert — so decadent. We also went for brunch on our way out of town and the food continued to amaze us — the breakfast sandwich was unbelievable, as were the fried porcini mushrooms. Most importantly, the service was outstanding. Renee, our server, was so delightful and made our two dining experiences that much better.

Second time back with our vegetarian mom and it felt like the restaurant leveled up even more from our first visit which was already so great. I don’t have photos of food because we gobbled them up as they came, but the First curry on the menu was bomb.com as well as the faux chicken (reminds me of Panda but like not authentic Chinese but not in a bad way you know what I mean.) also Julia’s Cacao was really interesting without the milk and made the hot cocoa experience fancier and different dimension.Loved our giggly server Diane (a?) and the manager Anthony for allowing to bring Little Bear in cuz it was too cold outside for us.LOVED the bathrooms. I saw this place on Google and was impressed by their reviews. I visited on a Sunday at 1.45pm, alone. After a 15 minute wait in the sun, where other larger groups were seated first (reasonable), I was asked to sit at the bar. My first impression is that although the place is small, 2 wait staff (one of which also doubles as bartender) is still insufficient. Tables were left uncleared and I could see people waiting for orders to be taken.I was then further ignored for another 20 minutes (despite informing the server I was ready to order once I stepped into the restaurant).One thing I noticed was the server explaining dishes and recommendations to everyone who stepped in, except me (Im a Singaporean Chinese, but my native tongue is English). I am not sure if this was a norm or maybe it was because I already knew what I wanted to have, but I would have liked to know they had watermelon juices, mushrooms were their specialty etc. In any case, being ignored did not feel good. I noticed the same happening for the Indian and Chinese parties seated behind me too. The server also consistently advertised their fresh watermelon water which was simply watermelon juice. I am unsure if fresh watermelon juice was a rarity in the Monterey, but it was slightly amusing to listen to.When the food finally arrived 17 minutes from the time I ordered, I was not impressed. I had ordered the highly-raved yellow curry with an addition of lions mane mushrooms. It was served hot at least, but the taste was rather monotonous and not spicy at all for a curry. The ingredients were plentiful, but none of them carried the curry taste beyond the initial first taste.FYI, I was seated at the right corner of the bar (there were 4 seats at the bar), which had multiple fruit flies due to the tomatoes they left out (as decoration?). I had to shift before my food arrived, cos god knows what would happen if I ate at that seat.My water was also not refilled for the entire meal (thank god I had some in my car).All in all, it was a disappointing experience. The food was average, service was poor and made me feel discrimated against, and you could do better at another restaurant for the same price. We had a great time with each other, as it was a family reunion of sorts, and enjoyed our food. I had just landed at MRY from Iowa through PHX, where there were zero hot food options for vegans on my layover, and was ready to get down to food business. We arrived and were greeted by the Owner, who got us set up at a table and we got some waters, then the specials were conveyed a few minutes later. The service was frantic and we seemed to be forgotten about for a time, which seemed odd for a place that seats around 20-26-ish people, but we had good company and Julias was providing live music that Thursday night and the mood at the table was chill. When we did finally get to order, our food came out hot and perfect. We had a seitan calzone, seitan pizza, BBQ seitan, and I had the Tamale Pie, which was a great mixture of beans, rice, and local roasted veggies over a polenta cake covered in a red chili sauce. We enjoyed our food very much, and despite the service delay the staff was really nice (and a little apologetic, it seemed like we may have shown up at the same time as every other table, and they were trying hard to get everything taken care of)Bottom line: a quaint vegetarian/vegan spot with a solid menu, friendly folks, and a very California feel to it. The one star is only for the waiters, who were outstanding, and the ambiance. The food (the main event) is fake. If you get swept up in the service and ambiance you may not give a though to how mediocre the food is. We ordered the faux orange chicken, tamale pie, a vegan cheese pizza, brownie, and donut bites.Faux Orange chicken is just battered cauliflower, overly sweet, there’s no protien on the plate. For the price I would expect a fresh tasting orange sauce, this taste like it was pulled out of a Trader Joe’s frozen chickenless pack. Also an oily unbalanced meal (no protein) that leaves you feeling sleepy after eating it.Tamale Pie was neither a tamale or a tamale pie. The four small slivers of tamale on the plate tasted like tamales, but traditional tamales more flavorful and stuffed, now they said tamale pie, which is usually a corn bread pie over latin inspired flavors. This was neither, I make tamales and the way they make those slivers is not that hard, stuffing tamales is the time consuming part, and steaming (they probably cut down on that time make such small slivers to cook through). The flavor was very simple and too overpowering, like eating a can of spicey enchilada sauce and canned pinto beans. At least there was a little protein on the plate.Vegan Cheese Pizza: the flavor was’t bad, but it was probably the oiliest vegan pizza I’ve ever had.Brownie: It was okay, the texture wasn’t the classic chewy brownie, it had a bit of a powdery taste. The sauce on the brownie was pretty good.Donut bites (the square dinner menu bites): these were actually really good. They tasted just like a churro, and the little square shape was fun. Maybe I’ll add a 2nd star just for this.Though I liked the ambiance it was all very dimly lit like a bar, even in the bathrooms. The bathrooms were like emersive art pieces which was cool.

Seems to have had a massive overhaul over the past years because the food is now super flavorful, and the menu has expanded. I went with a friend this time and we both remarked how bland the food once was. But we were both shocked by how the creative menu options went beyond our expectations. The dishes were super flavorful, well seasoned, and extremely fresh. We both got some kind of tamale dish on a salad/ rice/ bean plate. The dressing, preparation, everything was super well executed. Generous portions compared to other veg/vegan restaurants.Also need to mention the renovation of the bathrooms…just go to the loo and you will see what the fuss is about. Parking is limited and can be a pain. Service was a bit frustrating….our server, Chad, mixed up our orders, and he seemed preoccupied with a conversation at another table, which delayed the arrival of our food. When we inquired about our orders, he became a bit combative. Unfortunately he also looked unkempt and had very strong body odor- not very professional behavior for an older server. We stopped here on our way back to Berkeley from Big Sur. What a perfect place. Super creative and delicious California fusion cuisine. All veggie of course. The vibe is also great. We sat outside amongst the flower trellises and mushrooms 😊. As a vegetarian who travels I’ve been in many excellent veg restaurants. Yet when I step into Julia’s I feel like I’ve been transported into another world filled with trippy cave-paintings. Many fancier restaurants try to give off an interesting atmosphere, but few succeed doing it as well as Julia’s does almost effortlessly. And of course the food is mouth-watering delicious. The ambiance is super fun, the bathroom is super unique and fun, and the service was wonderful. We already decided to come back here tomorrow morning for breakfast again. I’m so glad we came here! Spectacular menu with a focus on mushroom cuisine. Every dish is prepared with intent and composed of perfectly prepared ingredients. Visited here for dinner. There was live music during our visit. Pretty good singer was performing. This is a Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant. We ordered Buffalo Cauliflower Wings for appetizer. This was pretty good. For entrée we ordered Pumpkin Curry and Bianco Pizza with Truffle Oil. Pizza was very tasty, however Pumpkin curry was little bland to my taste. Service was good. Good place to visit if you are Vegan/Vegetarian.

No a fan. The quality of the food is poor for the price. Also did not tell me its $2 more for the substitute egg and they forgot the dipping sauce with the donut holes. I am always supportive of vegan places..but this was that bad for me. 2 stars because my partner liked his $20 avacado toast. I live in Phoenix,AZ and we have bomb vegan places that are half the price. Disappointing for sure. I get the rent is probably insanely high..but deliver a better food product. Enough said. I really wanted it to be good.

Cute little outlet. Went Whale watching at Monterey Bay and returned to dine in here. My sister is vegetarian and loved the variety. The servers were very friendly and accommodated all our requests. Parking on site too. Loved the experience. We ordered yellow curry and squash soup. Must visit.

The food was absolutely spectacular. My wife and I are vegan/vegetarian and we found Julia’s in our last night in Monterey. The food did not disappoint. It can be hard to find decent vegan/vegetarian restaurants but this one is well worth the stars. They serve a variety of exotic mushrooms, we had the fried blue oysters which were delightful, Though cordyceps and lions manes are also available. We also had the orange cauliflower and tamale pie and both were absolutely to die for. A must try in the Monterey bay valley area for vegans/vegetarians.

We found this place online while on 17 mile drive. We love experimenting in food and saw wild mushrooms in their menu. We went and ordered the only 2 dishes containing mushrooms on their menu, neither of which came with any wild mushrooms. They also made our pizza without cheese by mistake and we had to wait for the correct order. We werent a fan of their pizza although the yellow curry was great (a bit too sweet albeit but pretty good). Garlic aioli was also very good. After we were done and about to leave, we saw that their fridge had a lot of wild mushrooms so we asked about it to our waitress. Turns out, she forgot to give us the second menu that had those even though we ordered only mushroom dishes. She didnt even tell us about it. Our experience would have been way different if such mistakes (not giving us a menu, serving the wrong order, making us wait a lot for food) were not done. The ambience was okay, a bit cozy. Their restroom is pretty hippie which was funny and cool. We appreciated farm to table execution and vegetarian based restaurant. Kombucha was also nice.

The vegan brunch is incredible, will make you realize how good candy cap mushrooms on french toast is because they know their mushrooms very well. The day before we got a pizza which was loaded with fresh vegetables. Lovely place. There was an indie artist singing there and they were fun to talk with. This place is a gem for sure. A friend and I stumbled upon this place coming North from Big Sur after a long day of hiking and I was absolutely delighted with the whole experience. Really bad for non pizza or rice dishes. The appetizers and salad are drenched in sauce and barely edible. The salad dressing is dumped on the salad. The garlic bread is burnt to hell. The rice plates are amazing though. This restaurant is severely understaffed and took them 35 minutes to get seated. After that, another 40 minutes to get a menu (I had to ask 4 times for it).The mushrooms are amazing. Everything is amazing here except the appetizers and salads. Mcdonalds makes better salads.

This place isnt worth the hype.The prices are exorbitant for the poor quality of food served. But most of all, the service was horrible, especially the attitude of the servers and the hostess. They were inattentive which is something I can forgive but they forgot to get our drinks, they took over 20 mins to get us a table despite a table being available. We love the food and the staff at Julia’s. If you love mushrooms, try the exotic mushroom sampler. Today there were fresh chanterelles as an added treat. The specials change with what’s available so I had an excellent salad of heirloom tomatoes with fresh basil.There is a brunch menu, available until 3 pm. We had the hash, which featured a delicious vegan “egg”. You can order from the dinner menu any time.The desserts are a great finish to the meal. Today I had the French Toast. Julia’s makes an amazing sauce from mushrooms that is used as a caramel sauce. If you are adventurous, I think you will find this sauce exquisite.

Such a great place for vegan food. The vegetarians get a little something too, but vegan is where its at. Molly, our server was super nice and knowledgeable. Some guy, who I think was the owner because he was covered in dough and flower kept checking on us and made the experience even better! He noticed we were lapping up our incredible carmel sauce on our desert so he brought more and dumped it on our ice cream and cake. Fabulous. Seemed like a nice cafe to visit. Food was decent but slightly overpriced. However, considering the location and the ambience, prices seemed reasonable.One of the staff members were particularly rude to us. Not sure what was the trigger but I guess he seemed disappointed to know that we were planning for a take out rather than dining in. Asked us to move away from a table saying that he was expecting some guests there. Post that when we went to pick up the food in an hours time(while I was informed the food would be ready in 25 mins), he informed that the food wasn’t ready and asked us to wait. In few mins while I asked another server about my order they seemed to pick it up from the counter as it was already kept ready. Hope they treat future customers much better.
