This was a gift from friends. We normally dont go here. We had an excellent meal and drinks. People were lined up at the door at opening time. Fortunately, we had a reservation. I had mixed tempura which was good. Had interesting cold sake in these wooden boxes. It was good but a bit pricey.

A perfectly comfortable yet classy place to have the most fresh sushi. Service is quick and impeccable. The sushi chefs, if you sit at the sushi bar, will recommend the freshest catches. The live scallop was a pure delight! The bluefin Toro was like butter.

Honestly… the sake was delicious… smooth. The sushi was okay nothing too fancy. They offer different kinds of fish you would not find everywhere. So some of their dishes they offer regular or premium fish. We got the regular, but you could tell some of the items were not as fresh and while they make the plate look nice some of the better fish cut is way smaller in size. So it definitely pricy for the quality of food… but the selection of fish kinda compensated for the price/portion size… definitely not the quality. The toro was ok. The food presentation was great, gluten free option…. Servers were amazing. It was a bit loud… definitely had to raise the voice to hear your party.

The fish was good, but he gave me rotten avocado. And then I ordered some ribeye steak appetizer and it was off. It wasn’t rotten, but it Had gone off a little bit and they still served it. Their portion size is very small for $22. You get about seven little scraps of fish in the Hawaiian pokey and the whole meal was over priced I barely got anything and it cost me $50 with tip that is so horribly overpriced and the food was not even worth it. Very disappointing. I even told him that The beef was off but he still charge me for it.

Great low key sushi spot! Friendly staff, energetic vibe but still mellow. The sushi chefs know what they are doing! Its hard to find fresh seafood so I appreciate that my seafood was fresh and presented clean and beautiful. First time for but will definitely be back. Overall: A+ only one trip up...the poke bowlFirst pic is the poke. It was just a mess in flavor. Big miss. BUT the rest was amazing.Sashimi plate, toro tuna sashimi, chopped toro and rainbow roll. Everything was very fresh and clean flavor. Will definitely be going back.

Koi is my go-to sushi spot. Ive been dining here since 1995 - 27 years! Theyve been around since 1980. Cant believe I missed out on 15 years of this fantastic restaurant. Family owned and operated. Fresh fish, not frozen. Scratch made sauces. Best sushi chefs around. Dont know what I love more - the food or the staff.

Fresh, flavorful and fast. This was our first time visiting Koi, although weve lived nearby for most of our lives. I can see why theres always a line coming out of this restaurant during the weekends. The soft shell crab and shrimp tempura and vegetables are some of the best Ive ever eaten. The batter is wonderfully light and crispy without the grease. I found the bluefin toro melted in your mouth and was a favorite. The salmon was perfect. The only complaint I have is on the poke, which is how I feel about almost every one Ive tried that isnt Hawaiian. I thought it was a tad on the bland side, but still rather good. I would go back to this restaurant time and time again for sushi.

Although this was my first time here, this was my guests go-to Japanese Cuisine. The restaurant was packed but we were lucky to get a booth fairly quickly.Food:Sashimi Dinner plate was filled with fresh cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, whitefish, and clam. It also came with a bowl of miso soup, salad, and rice. This was more than plenty to fill me.Teriyaki Salmon plate was delicious! Just the perfect amount of rice, salmon, and veggies. This meal also came with a bowl of rice, miso soup, and salad.Appetizers:Baked Mussels was delicious! The sauce was creamy and abundant. Personally, it was a little on the salty side for me, but the extra sauce made for a great dip for the fried calamari we ordered.Fried Calamari was lightly coated in tempura batter and deep fried to perfection! It was the best fried calamari Ive ever had.Chawanmushi was quite delicious! This had to be ordered first since it takes about 10-15 minutes to make, but so worth the wait for!

Fun, authentic feeling, smaller establishment. The sushi bar was the center of attention and rightfully so! We werent able to sit at the sushi bar but the chefs were hammering out delicious rolls left and right! They had sake that was served in a wooden box, I cant remember the name but it was very fun and unique!

Wouldve given 5 stars, if not for the head sushi chef, who appeared to be demeaning and nasty to the lady servers and hostesses. Food was good, service and efficiency were top notch from all servers who were super friendly.Perhaps owner should have a chat with this sushi chef, and remind him that hes not in japan where women may be subservient, and treated poorly. Hope to visit again and expect to see ladies get treated better.

One of the worst Japanese places Ive been to. Food is bland, boring, and expensive. The sauces taste like instant ramen powder mixed with water. Salads are 90% cabbage. Heres a photo of the big entree that is called salmon something something with sashimi that was around $22. Sashimi was store sushi section quality. Dont get me wrong - it would have been a fine meal if only every other Japanese place around wasnt ten time better.

I am visiting from Texas and Koi remains my favorite Sushi/Japanese restaurant!! I havent eaten there since November but service and quality of food remain consistent!! Koi has manyP0 of my favorite food items! Stuffed Shitake Mushrooms, Tuna Tataki, and crab filled Shrimp boats my favorite!! Which we order, 5 orders at a time! Our waitress was on top of our table and our many orders all night!! She even recommended the Ocean Trout which none of us had eaten before and it was excellent, one our future must haves! I had the combo sushi dinner and it was great.However, my wife got sick (gastrointestinal issues) after having the sukiyaki pot.I called the restaurant to let them know. A manager wasn’t available at the moment and was supposed to return my call, but it’s been a few weeks and I’ve not heard back.

This place is great! Definitely on the pricey side, but you definitely are getting what you pay for. The wife and I are big sushi lovers, and this is one of the places we go to when we want to splurge on higher quality fish. The carpaccio way over priced for what you get. 2 people 4 small rolls and a carpaccio $85 with tip $100. If your loaded and dont mind being overcharged this place is awesome.

Way too small, me and my friends had to get McDonalds afterwards cause we were hungry. I do want to get full for the amount I paid (12-14 per roll). The service was wonderful too. Just hate walking out a place still hungry.

I love the food and comfortable atmosphere. The service is friendly but a little judgy feeling if you dont know what you want or are unfamiliar with what youre ordering. But not to the point of ruining a good time. I bring family and friends when they visit because it never disappoints. Also if you are feeling adventurous this is the place to try something new because its probably the best youll have it. Youre sushi hating friends wont believe fish is not fishy tasting.

The Sushi was excellent and the service was nice - but sadly a bit unorganized when we were there. They forgot to give us a menu and came after 10-15 minutes to take our order, which was our first chance to ask for the menu. We ordered crab cakes as a starter which took more than 30 minutes. After that, the sushi came fast and was delicious. One of our orders didnt get through and was then sold out when we asked, but we just ordered some other sushi which was again quickly on our table and almost as fast in our tummies. I can definitely recommend this place - just bring some time.

I have passed by this Japanese restaurant for years and finally decided to try it. It has been family owned since it opened and has both table and sushi bar areas. The sushi menu is pretty extensive and the dinner menu has all of the normal Japanese restaurant entries. It was full with people waiting, and the staff was friendly. They still have plexiglass around the tables, and all of them were in use when we visited.

Best Japanese restaurant in HB/Seal beach. Everything on the menu is amazing. The quality of the sushi is as good as it gets and the prices are suprisingly low. I recommend any sushi dish and make sure to get the side salad, it is delicious. There is an outdoor patio that has around 10 tables with heaters in front of the restaurant.

Koi is a truly exceptional sushi restaurant in the Seal Beach area. Not only does this restaurant feel authentic, but they actually use real crab meat in the rolls unlike other restaurants. My Favorite Sushi Place in SoCal - this place is the place to go for fresh sushi - the kind where they dont need to add a bunch of mayo or flake nonsense, because the fish is actually delicious. I cannot wait for them to reopen to dine-in. This is my favorite date spot, and we went a couple of time a month every month running up to the whole COVID thing. Im GF (celiac) and they are always so knowledgeable and accommodating. I have never been glutened here. YAY! Great, quiet restaurant - usually not to many kids here.

I am a local who normally has no problem coming to this place until today. The waitress (Taylor) who served us was disrespectful and unnessarily raising her voice when asking questions about the menu. Not only was she very impatient and rushed, she was giving attitude! She then expressed in a loud voice, that she was SO confused in front of everyone else around us when she should have been doing her job at explaining details better. It was my boyfriends first time and he said he would never go back again. The vibe and atmosphere was unwelcoming. Food was good but perhaps would have felt better had our lunch started off in a better, positive attitude. It ruined our time.

WORST SUSHI RESTAURANT EVER!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! From start to finish this place should not be in business. We got old menus with old prices and got a huge surprise when we got the bill that had more expensive menu items. On the menu we got the price for Salmon Nigiri was $7.50 and the bill charged $8.50 and rainbow cali roll on the old menu we got was $18 an they charged us $19. The service was like we never got any. The sushi chef didnt understand our order and gave us both a cali roll and a rainbow cali roll, when we only ordered a rainbow cali roll, so they could overcharge us. We told the sushi chef we only ordered the rainbow cali roll and not the cali roll and he rudely pulled the plate from my hand and took the cali roll off as he rolled his eyes. The owner was also rude and didnt care he served outdated menus and we didnt get a water refill for 20 minutes and had horrible customer service. On top of all this the food was overpriced and disgusting. The salmon nigiri had no flavor and was not buttery at all. Same thing with the cali rainbow roll. We couldnt even order more food because we had no server!!!!!! Save yourself the time and money because after I left here I had to go home and make dinner.

I come here every time when I am in Seal Beach. Great little sushi spot! Fish is always fresh and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I typically get the Brandons roll diced variety of fish over a roll. Their ikura nigiri is always very good, as this not too salty like most places. Be prepared to wait in line.The wait is always worth it though!

My kids love sushi so we came here and ordered some California rolls, and the Oregon Roll. Both were very good! I ended up getting the Teriyaki Beef (which is a steak) and it was perfectly Medium-rare and the teriyaki dipping sauce was delicious! We also got the vegetable Tempura- yum! We brought our 4 kids (9 and under) and 2 of them are very picky and I think we downed that entire meal! So good! Definitely worth the price, but the main thing i want to comment on is the staff- my clumsy child ended up spilling his sprite all over the table/floor and the staff immediately stepped in to help clean it up and it was so cute because he came back with my sons drink refllied- this time with plastic wrapped around the top with the straw stuck in it! An orange county staple for traditional style sushi for over two decades. The prices are not cheap, but when youre getting some of the best bluefin or yellow tail in southern California youll know why it was expensive. The daily consistency of this place is incredible, and over the course of the past 20+ years Im hard pressed to remember ever being served a substandard cut of fish. The sushi bar here is incredible and the chefs are all exceptionally talented. I believe that ordering a chefs choice sashimi dinner speaks volumes about a restaurants quality and this is my absolute favorite here. Some other highlights to the menu include the fresh live scallops (when in season), the Seal Beach roll, maguro, and one of my personal favorites, sweet shrimp. In addition to sushi and sashimi they serve a broad variety of fully cooked appetizers and traditional Japanese cuisine including tempura, calamari, kobe beef skewers, teriyaki, and sukiyaki. The sushi bar is always busy, but there is normal table seating here too. Come in, have a sake, and enjoy some of the best fish in Socal.

It claims to family friendly but because another table complained about the noise my children were making and the restaurant manager told us to leave.So if you have young children that may cry, shout or have a tantrum DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT or you will find yourself kicked out before your food comes too.The irony is Right after we ordered my husband took my toddler outside for a walk and I was carrying my 1 year old. My children weren’t making any noise when we were kicked out.

My wife and I are in LA at least twice a year and we have never failed to stop in at Koi.Even though we visit infrequently, the people who run it know us and tries to get us seated at the bar because they know were going to tell the chef Omakase!. We always make sure to come on a night where we can be seated with chef Taka or Daigo as both are attentive to our likes and dislikes. Bring sake and dont be afraid to pour a glass for your chef.
