The librarian at the Cambria Public Library recommended this place to me and I need to go back and thank her, because Mezzo Italiano provides such a warm, intimate dining experience.The owner designed the menu herself, and was more than happy to customize my meal to my specifications when I was torn between three appealing entrees. Granted, I came before the dinner rush, so I dont know if this is a service the restaurant provides in general or if I was just lucky. Either way, I appreciated the thoughtful gesture.The atmosphere is also top-notch: warm lighting, dark woods, and a light sandalwood fragrance permeating throughout.

A fun little place with a cool owner, a good vibe, a good atmosphere, and delicious food and wine. Very accommodating, whether it’s with regular cheese, vegan cheese, or no cheese at all, as well as in other ways too. The owner has a great attitude and will make it work for an enjoyable time.

This place is really cute, like, really cute. I wish I took photos of the interior. Perfect for a date night while on our road trip. They have home-made vegan cheese (cashews and sunflower seed base) and a vegan meatball. I had the stuffed pepper and my wife had the eggplant and pasta. We had the privilege of the owner as a server and she was lovely to meet and very accommodating of my wifes allergies. Overall an excellent experience and would heartily suggest you stop here. Call ahead to reserve a table if you can. They have a couple of outdoor tables with a heater too and the patio seating is dog friendly.

MEZZO ITALIANO is a cozy, organic, Italian ristorante. Seating just 18, it offers a wonderful gastronomic experience.Dining at Mezzo Italiano is like having a cooked-from-scratch dinner at Nonnas with no dishes to wash. (Nonna is Grandma in Italian.)Victoria, the owner and chef, visited our table. As she described the menu, we learned about her experience with conventional and vegan cooking.Mezzo-Mezzo. (Mezzo translates from Italian as half. A popular Italian colloquialism is mezzo-mezzo or half and half.)Since its opening in June 2018, Chef Victoria has used organic ingredients, whenever possible, in her vegan, gluten free, and animal derived dishes. The talented chef creates delicious, cooked-from-scratch meals, (just like Nonnas) and still has time for interesting conversations. (When was the last time you talked with your professional chef?)Let me use my meal as an example:Dinner begins with a crisp, properly chilled, lightly dressed, vegan, Caesar Salad, In place of croutons, the chef served mini toast slices.Ciabatta Garlic Bread, smothered with house-made vegan cheese, soon arrived. The soft, slipper shaped pastry, loaded with nooks and crannies, is just plain delicious.Next, Eggplant Parmesan is presented. The eggplant slices, coated with breading containing house-made, vegan, parmesan cheese, are baked, then gently placed atop cavatappi pasta, highlighted with par-cooked mixed veggies, and dressed, with the warm bite of puttanesca sauce. (Several sauce choices are available.) Absolutely delicious.Dessert: A scoop of vegan, vanilla ice cream, and a scoop of vegan, lemon sorbet, are placed on a generous bed of fresh blueberries. A perfect palette pleaser thats large enough to share.The others at the table enjoyed dishes containing animal proteins. All found their meals terrific.During her visit to our table, the chef told us of a guest who claimed theres magical powers in Mezzo Italianos elegant, cut glass window display. The guest was partially right. Theres magic here, but its Chef Victoria.Stuff to know:Reservations are accepted. The small patio is dog friendly. There is no childrens menu or highchairs. Free street parking. The eatery is wheelchair accessible from the street.The ADA compatible bathroom is at the far end of the hallway on the left side of the eatery.A free parking lot, located behind the building, is not wheelchair accessible and requires several steps to enter the restaurant. Quaint little unique organic Italian restaurant. Reservations highly recommended but we lucked out dropping in. Food is made to order and will take about 30 minutes from ordering so have a glass or bottle of terrific Italian organic wines they have. The Rose was wonderful. Absolutely get the mushroom appetizer!! The sauce and bruschetta are wonderful. The vegetarian lasagna was all I hoped it would be. My wife loved her chicken park!! The owner/chef came out and chatted with everyone, a very nice touch to a very nice evening!

Victoria was extremely attentive to details and questioned specifics of our orders, which was refreshing, given Im vegetarian but my wife is not. We each were very happy with our dinners and desserts. It makes the drive down from Marin County easier, given the knowledge there is going to be a great meal to cap the days journey.

This place was amazing. I took a date here last night and enjoyed it very much. The house red wine was great. The cremini mushrooms and garlic bread was amazing. I had the Ceprese Chicken and it was delicious. The atmosphere was very nice and homey. The owner (I forgot her name) was very friendly and personable. We found out everything inside was made or decorated by herself which I found to be pretty awesome and admirable. 10/10 would eat here again!

For starters, we both enjoyed a salad...I ordered the dinner salad and my husband ordered the spinach salad - both salads were fresh and the dressings were flavorful! I also had a Paloma Rose organic wine that was certainly enjoyable!My main course was the Cavitappi with Q-ball, a corkscrew pasta, with puttanesca sauce and a quinoa ball - the pasta was delicious, the sauce had a nice spice and quinoa ball was topped with their housemade vegan cheese and served with perfectly steamed cauliflower...it all went very well together! This was a generous portion of pasta...so I had plenty to take home! We also had a freshly baked homemade roll with our dinner. They also make a sourdough pizza there...I love, love sourdough so it would be great to add a sourdough bread or roll option to the menu. We were given wonderful service and the atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. I definitely suggest stopping by Mezzo if you are in Cambria!

Eclectic spot with interesting decor. I never really eat Italian away from home brcause I feel that I have some of the best Italian restaurants around me. Wrong! You could literally taste the love put into the dishes here. Every bite of everything we ordered was an explosion of deliciousness. What a hidden gem. Kudos chef! And our waitress was awesome too. Didn’t love my meal here. With a smaller establishment with not a lot of tables I would imagine that the service would be better. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and the rotini pasta was over cooked and the marinara wasn’t good either. The chicken was unable to save the dish. I was particularly appalled by paying $4 for a single can of coke. I’m all for a business making money but a 900% markup on bulk prices is exorbitant in my opinion. I don’t live in this area but I find myself wishing I hadn’t fallen for the hype of the reviews.

Amazing home cooked pizza! It was really open until midnight. The cookies were delicious. The owners were super friendly and the service was great! I highly recommend it. Delicious little hidden gem in Cambria. The homemade Italian food is top notch. They make everything fresh at the restaurant. Cozy spot that sits 18 people. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Their Rolioli (large ravioli) was very good. I had the chicken parmesan and liked it. The focaccia bread was awesome to start with olive oil to dip it in. Great eatery.

The eggplant parmesan was delicious! The restaurant makes their own vegan cashew cheese, and it is rich, creamy, and flavorful. So much better than the fake options usually available. My husband had the same dish with chicken and real cheese. He loved his as well! Any restaurant that can mail a vegan dish and a meat dish… well, that’s a treat!!!

Most amazing Italian food! They put their own twists on classical dishes and wow! So fresh and good. We got takeout late and they were si sweet and friendly. We’ve eaten here several times over the last couple of years - take out, dining in, by ourselves and with friends - and each and every time the food has been delicious, plentiful, and memorable. We love the fresh bread, eggplant parmigiana, stuffed pepper, chicken parmigiana, tomato soup, Caesar and mixed green salads, the tiramisu, and all the cookies. Oh and the wine list. They can accommodate vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free, meat eaters, everyone! We’ll be back soon.

Food was OK and I am also OK with the prices. but to be honest: We didn’t feel welcome. The first thing she said when we came in and saw me with a child, that she doesn’t serve children‘s menue, then I said that the pizzette would be fine for the children, and she grumbled something. I got the impression, that she wanted us go again to keep the space for somebody else.I know that she will comment this somehow, because she always justifies when somebody doesn’t rate her with 4 or 5 Stars. Advice: just accept the criticism.

Tasty lasagna! Great pizza crust on the mini pizza. It was the only place open after 9 PM. But who would’ve thought that there’d be an Italian takeout with good Italian food. The people working there had the dining room closed with take out only. But I don’t exactly blame them with the BA.5 surge in California these days. It’s connected to a cute wine bar that looked open. Too bad we were just driving through. I would’ve liked to see a list in a semi-posh coast town deep into the tourist season. It was a bit too dark for decent photos. But the food looked good and smelled even better.

Mezzo is the best Italian food in Cambria and some of the best we have had in California.We were seated by a very sweet woman within a minute or so and someone came to our table with a smile. The service was great. They were all so nice, assisted me with the menu--of course I forgot my glasses-- and offered some great suggestions.Our food took a little while to come because they make it for you, no one but you and it is all fresh and ever so yummy. You order at the counter, but if you have a hard time standing for any length of time they are there to help you.I left there over fed, my fault, I could not stop eating and there was not one thing that was not just as great as any super expensive place I have ever been to before and, yes, it is not cheap eats, this is real Italian food and it is all wonderful. The prices are very reasonable.We had ravioli and I am sure they made that pasta. The meatball pasta is so good and the pesto, just oh my, anything with pesto get it, try it, you will love it. Their red sauce is also the best. It is all great.Their menu is great, it all looks great, and if I were Queen I would eat my way though it, but we had to go home at some point. There is just no better place for Italian food in Cambria or most of California than this place and I am counting the famous places in Monterey and Los Angeles.We were just so happy and relaxed and calm. Have a great time at Mezzo, the owners are there and they are super.

We arrived at the hotel late. We were very hungry! We called several restaurants listed as being open at 9pm. They were closed or very rude because we wanted to place a late order for pick up. MEZZO ITALIAN RESTAURANT was the last place I was going to call. I was ready to give up! Not only were they open, but they were absolutely the friendliest voice I heard over the phone that evening. We placed our order and they still made everything fresh. Everything we ordered was outstanding! Better than I would have made at home! I will always come back to this delightful place with people who truly have a heart for service. Those other restaurants will never see my dimes or dollars again. I will send every one I know coming to Cambria to this special place. Their kindness is first place in my book and the food is outstanding. You wont be disappointed.

The food was good but priced so far beyond its value or the value of the experience and ambiance that it simply boggles my mind. I wonder if the place has repeat customers. Surely not. Once burned is all it took for me. I was asked repeatedly if I wanted butter with the over-priced bread--as if it was a grand gesture on their part to provide it. Even in Cambria you can get two good meals for the price of one at Mezzo. I recommend you go elsewhere.

I can not get over just how wonderful Mezzo Italiano is. We came for food and received an experience in return. Linda and Victoria know what they are doing! Their menu is booming with confidence as Linda said herself “there is nothing on this menu that I would not recommend” and upon eating here, I would have to whole heartedly agree. We started our meal off with the chicken soup, hearty, and soulful, add a dumpling (savory with the perfect texture and hint of sweetness) and it would make a meal in itself. I had the ROLIOLI and my boyfriend, the lasagna, both of us interrupting our conversation several times to express to one another how this was the best meal we have had in a very long time. The service was personable, Linda even gave me a selection of her cookies to choose from as a sweet treat for my birthday on the house. It made my day! I picked the pistachio orange cookie and devoured them with my coffee the morning of my bday. Long story short, the food, incredible, the service, amazing. I was sad to leave and look forward to going back and SOON. I can’t wait to share my new love for this restaurant with every friend and stranger alike.

My boyfriend and I were in Cambria for one night and were so excited to see a restaurant that was open late on a weekday! We took a chance and ordered a bunch of dishes to go to take back to our room for a later dinner.We ended up selecting a salad, a meatball side, a greenball side, stuffed peppers, and a stuffed mushroom. It was a little pricey compared to more average restaurants, but for good, fresh ingredients, you just generally pay more for quality, and it was definitely worth it. The food was absolutely amazing, just the right amount, and very filling (both in the literal sense, but also in the soul-filling way that only a good, homemade meal made with love can do).While it was all delicious, the stuffed mushroom stole the show. Every bite I tasted something different, the textures were just right, and the richness of the dish was was *just* on the cusp of *almost* being too rich, but not so much that I didnt want to eat the whole thing.If and when Im back in the area, I am looking forward to returning and trying a whole host of other dishes!

Ive lived in Cambria for 25 years and i love this restaurant. Best pizza in town, the small 7 inch is made with 100 year old starter and the size is good for my waste line. My wife who is a vegetarian was very impressed by thier menu. She had plenty of choices. The establishment is run by three ladies that not only cook but also rebuilt the place. I was impressed. I would recommend this restaurant. Its probably not for valley folk with kids trying to get a quick meal. Its more for folks that want to savor food and enjoy each others company. Oh the rolls I had was to die for. Hrs 3 to 12 closed Wednesdays.

Well, they are open late. Wasnt impressed with the food. Chicken Cacciatore smothered in marinara and cheese. Couldnt taste the chicken at all. Had another spiral pasta dish that was tossed in the same marinara sauce...hugely overpriced for what you get. Funny thing....they serve wine but I had to gulp it down because their license only allows them to serve until 10pm. They actually have to pick up your glass-full or empty-right at the stroke of 10!I guess just not my style of Italian food. I like more of the Venetian or Northern Italy dishes and not so much of the marinara....on EVERYTHING. But, after 9pm they are the only game in town.

I’m happy they have a plant-based menu — that’s something everyone should have. I thought my food was a bit too simple to be $17 (pasta with plain marinara sauce), but it tasted good and you can tell it’s fresh. I should’ve gotten the stuffed pepper meal instead because it smelled super good from someone else’s table. Go there for a date night or special occasion because it’s not cheap food.And I noticed just now how the owners treat people who don’t give them five star reviews and instead give constructive criticism. It’s not cute to act so defensive over it. I understand how it’s organic now, but you can’t act like that over it. You’re treating people like they’re stupid, even if they tell you about their negative experience and it has nothing to do with organic foods. It looks immature and it’s not very becoming of a business to do something like this.

Okay first of all this is the first review I’ve ever had the desire to actually write. I’m lazy I hate texting, but this restaurant is literally my favorite Italian restaurant. I’m from Mexico have traveled to many places in the US, and nothing compares to Mezzo Italiano. My girlfriend and I initially stumbled upon this place because everything else in town was closed, and it was the only restaurant open, and we were immediately blown away. It’s cozy and homey, and it feels like all of the service and food is so personalized. Their signature pasta dish, Rolioli, is their own creation and is to die for. I’d personally recommend the spicy puttanesca sauce with it, but everyone has their own preferences of course. Months later we’d still talk about how amazing the food was and now that we are back to Cambria, we came here first thing, and I still stand by my initial opinion. There was a rush of people when we arrived, so we had a longer wait, but it was so worth it. You guys rock 🤙🏼

We enjoyed a delicious takeout dinner from Mezzo Italiano while on a short getaway during Covid. It was not cheap, but the best dinner weve had in Cambria so far - fresh, healthy ingredients, and creative menu items. The kids enjoyed the meatball, and I had the vegetarian version, the greenball with the sauce of the day, butternut squash. Unusual but delicious. I also had the stuffed bell pepper, which despite the melted cheese on top was not too heavy. My husband and sons enjoyed the lasagna and pasta dishes.

When you are busy traveling on a road trip or for work, oftentimes you settle for whatever you can get. Sometimes you luck out, sometimes you end up in a bad spot. In the case of Cambria and along highway 1 in the Californian central coast, this place is a gem. The staff is fantastic, the food is made in a homestyle manner, with a lot of attention paid to the quality of ingredients. While we went in the first time because it was the only game in town, the next two times on a recent trip was because the place was so good that we chose it over the other dining options in town.The Caesar salad is to die for. Yes, it doesnt have anchovies in it, but most places in the US never use them, and it is not lacking in umami or depth of flavor because the owner uses (if I were to make an educated guess) 36 month aged Parmigiano Reggiano, high quality hand torn romaine, and a dressing that is light while vibrant, showcasing the flavors of the olive oil and the lemon. The house made croutons have the right texture, and are not overly oily. Hands down, wherever you are, this is a great salad.Polenta, parmigiano and the chicken noodle soup are all good options. I recommend, when given the choice of a sauce, getting the puttanesca. While not a true classical one as found in Naples (it lacks the anchovies), the sauce has a great amount of flavor with a nice balance between the capers and olives and tomato. Additionally, the polenta are baked triangles, with a crispy crust top and a creamy, well executed interior (no lumps or grittiness), showing that they took their time to make it right. The eggplant parmigiano features thinly sliced eggplant, cooked with a small amount of beading until crispy, then re-baked as if a lasagna to ensure it comes out piping hot and not soggy. The soup features a darker stock in which the color comes from them roasting the chicken and the bones, giving it a nice depth of flavor and, for lack of a better word, meatiness.The baked goods are in a homestyle manner--with fresh fruit that is seasonal--and nothing overwhelms the flavor of the fruit (try the raspberry muffins with the whipped cream [true whipped cream, not some sugary disaster]). The shortbread cookies have a delightful texture, melt in your mouth, and have a wonderful depth to their flavor. The pie is more of an Italian crostata, featuring a filling of fresh fruit with limited sugar, and a crust more reminiscent of a friable pate brisee than an American pie crust. One is enough for about three or four people.The fact you can eat here until basically midnight is a delight, especially since very few things are open in Cambria after 9 PM during the week. And personally, Id rather go to bed feeling satisfied and fulfilled without feeling an ounce of resentment towards some late night choice.

I ate here last night with 3 friends. We arrived and ordered, all their items sounded very good. We’ve visited Cambria and decided to try a restaurant we had never been to before. Mistake! After ordering, we enjoyed visiting. But after 45 min, our food still wasn’t ready! I’m going thru chemo treatments for breast cancer, so after 45 min, I’m just needing a piece of bread or something in my stomach. I asked them if I could get some bread or something. The lady says to me “well, we have rolls for purchase for $2 a piece”. I have never ever been to an Italian restaurant that did not serve bread with their pasta, seriously? We ordered a pasta dish, Rollioli? There was just sauce and cheese, no pasta that we could tell. Each plate seemed over cooked and the meatball was extremely dry. Another detail that was disappointing is we ordered round of ice water. They brought glasses of luke warm water with no ice. Yuck! And in addition they had a sign at front counter “no public restrooms available”, seriously? We just spent 80 dollars on dinner and you don’t provide a restroom? We did however ask to use restroom and they did allow us to do so thank God. May I suggest a sign that says “restrooms for diners only”. All in all, don’t dine here unless you want mediocre food at high cost, long wait, no bread with your dinner, and warm water in glasses.

The food was very good but very expensive. The pasta was pure sauce and the portion of the food was little for the price. The sides were not included with the entre and you have to pay for it seperate. You also dont get any type of bread or biscuits before you get your food. The food did not satisfy our hunger. Very small and quite dry chicken caprese for $13 (see photo). If the chicken had any moisture it would have been passable flavor wise but not by much. Girlfriend got a Cesar salad (a very modest salad which at most places would cost $5), together $28. I would not have batted an eye at the price were it a tasty delight, it was just depressing. Even for a late night eatery not quite worth it. 2 stars for being open late in Cambria, any place else a 0 star dining experience. Will drive for late night snacking next time.

Walked in this place with out my mask on which was in my pocket and what can I say, I forgot to put it on. I was then yelled at by a loud women who was later identified as the owner of this establishment to put my mask on, and didnt you see the sign on the door, in front of about 5 other guests.
