I would drive 3,000 miles (and nearly did when I moved away) for this sushi. Its consistently excellent, fresh and the people that operate and work there are always so pleasant. During covid its the only place weve been getting takeout because we trust it.Highly recommend
A simple/great lunch buffet. Its been open with multiple, but always great owners for over 20 years. Wow... Where does the time go?Its a place to get lunch, when you want a fresh buffet option, that is easy and priced great. Its the simple rolls, and tempura veggies, fried pot stickers, etc, but its nice, and EASY.
They have authentic sushi offerings and offer nightly, creative Specials.They get busy in the evenings...They are open 7 days a week for dinner and offer lunch specials.Family-friendly environment, fairly small, so they fill up fast.They also offer beef, chicken, pork and salmon for non-sushi lovers.
Sushi was fabulous. However I never got the sake I ordered, food was very slow to come and a bit on the pricey side. Normally places will give complimentary miso, here I think they charged 2 dollars per tiny bowl. They did have soy beans complimentary but I dont find those appetizing. They are child friendly!
Probably better at the restaurant, I would not door dash this place again. Not worth the $, none of the fish tasted fresh, there was still skin on the fish on some of the rolls (don’t know if that was intentional?) the seaweed in the rolls tasted really old and pungent (I understand some people might like that but I tend to like clean fresh flavors). Sorry, I didn’t eat more then 1 bite of each roll. 😞
This really is one of the best sushi places in the Santa Cruz area, sticking to a more traditional approach, without diverging into new-age fusion nonsense too much. You can easily personalize your order of course, if you like. Weve been coming here for 15+ years, its very kid-friendly, and the owners are super nice. One small ding might be turnover rate in serving staff, yet staff is always on top of things and very courteous, so are hired/trained well. So, after all these years, in our household, sushi is still synonymous with Miyako!
Ordered Lion King Sushi Roll, salmon teriyaki bento box with veggies tempura, and udon noodle soup; ALL were of excellent quality.Service staff is not attentive.Good spot for everyday japanese food influenced by CA tastes.
Always have drive past this sushi place and never have tried it until the other day we decided to go for lunch. Pretty awesome they have a lunch buffet during the week for very reasonable pricing. Everything was fresh and delicious.the service was very friendly and fast. Def a small.gem . I would recommend to anyone in the area. Plenty of parking.
I came here for the lunch buffet on a friday.The restaurant was not crowded, and the service was quick (drinks only).The buffet was good but not the greatest I have had. It had several options and they were fresh. I wish the sushi bar and food was better labeled.I would definitely come back
The wait staff was nice. The young white girl who was not our waitress was particularly kind & helpful. The sushi chef said goodbye as we departed which is always a warming gesture. On the down side, the sushi rolls seemed wet. It was weird and affected all 3 of our rolls.
It’s a new favorite of mine. My mom and I both got the Chirashi Special, and we tried the Hamachi Kama this evening. The chirashi is so delicious. Presentation is nice and the fish is really fresh. The meal came with miso soup and salad. The dressing for the salad is sesame based and (I believe) not made with mayonnaise. I really enjoyed it. And the edamame is complimentary.
Great weekday buffet lunch 11-2:30, and always excellent cuts of fish. Their quality of food and service is consistently the best in Capitola. The lunch buffet is a bargain. While the sashimi will set you back ($$), you wont find better quality this side of Hwy 17.

Ive been going there for more than 20 years now, since I was a small child. The staff has always been friendly and endearing. The food has been the best Ive had. I cannot recommend this place enough!
I love this restaurant. The food is absolutely excellent. After eating sushi here for a around a year I went back one evening to another local sushi restaurant that I used to like a lot and did not enjoy their sushi at all since I have been spoiled now on very fresh fish at Miyako. There was a noticeable difference in freshness. I had heard this about Miyako from others but now I know it from experience.Plus the owners and waiters are all very friendly and knowledgable. By far my favorite sushi restaurant in Santa Cruz.
Teriyaki was cold, sushi was plain and lukewarm. Brother ordered a drink that never came. Ordered it again, still never came. Poor experience. 2 stars because our waitress was very nice
This place had come with high reviews, But when I saw the stripmall environment I was not excited, just really hungry. So we went to see if it could transcend the sad middle america aura. Oddly we could not tell if it was opened until my partner actually got out of the car and went to the door to see if there was a sign with hours posted, or if the door was locked. He reached for the door & lo & behold it was OPENED ! Since there was no sign, or lights that you could see while driving by, it was amazing to us that there was anyone in there. But there were a number of other seemingly happy and satisfied customers...The vibe inside was a little awkward, and we looked at each other with a shrug saying Lets just push onward.Ordering was an alright experience, even if the staff was a little distant. So if the food had been great we could have chalkd it up to Miyako being a little si-fi & twilight-zony... But the food was as awkward & dim as the environs. The miso soup was weak & the tempura soggy. The sushi rice was so gummy & the fish in the rolls all sort tasted the same....Perhaps it was just a bad day for the Chefs... But the depressing location was something that wont change even if the staff has a good day... However YOU may find it emo & charming. Dont let our thoughts stop you from loving Miyako !!
This little place serves truly delightful Japanese cuisine. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious. It is easy to see that the owners and employees take pride in their work, and I would visit again in a heartbeat.

Been going here for the lunch special for like 20 years now. All you can eat sushi rolls (only rolls), teriyaki chicken gyoza (potstickers . . kinda), tempura veggies, rice noodles with beef, tofu with sweet sauce, cucumber and carrots with sweet vinegar, bean sprouts, other stuff . . . all for $10.99. Not bad. Served buffet style.
I have finally found the best Japanese restaurant in Santa cruz. Very fresh sashimi and authentic Japanese sushi. My husband loves their salmon skin hand roll. He said its very flavorful with crispy salmon and large portion. They also have toro sashimi, too.

2018-12-29 03:38:24A pearl hidden away.. The place Is surrounded in darkness from the outside but once youre inside the light engulfs the place and brings a cozy atmosphere to the room. The room itself has simple decor that gives it a nice feel.The waiter and waitress were patient and thoughtfull when presented with questions regarding the sushi. Shortly after I anticipated a long wait but to my dismay it was brought swiftly. It was presented beautifully on a gaint planter. Throughout the meal we were checked up multiple times.The food itself was heavenly, I got the Dragon roll and the shrimp tempura (deep fried). The presentation was neat and the taste was a whirlwind of flavors and textures. The shrimp tempura had a nice crunch to it and mouth full of flavor coexisting with one another. I only wish they would have drizzled more sauce upon the rolls as some needed more than others. Overall, I expect myself to come here again as my first time was a great experience.

2018-03-20 00:31:23They have the authentic and fresh sashimi in town, salmon, uni, and tuna.. They also have the best salmon skin hand roll compared to others. I also like to order combo tempura with vegi and shrimp. Quality is pretty consistent ever since I have been there more than 6 times!

2022-02-22 04:16:51We enjoyed the atmosphere. There was a calming ocean view on both televisions instead of noisy sports. The chirashi dinner was excellent and the jalapeño appetizer was really good. The staff was very polite and attentive.

2017-11-16 01:58:38This is for their lunch Buffet. This place is very nice. They keep fresh sushi constantly cumming out and have a very sides. My favorite is the pineapple beef and chicken.Missing a star because the price is high enough they should have a better selection of Sushi out. Usually only three choices and they are very plain.Besides that, they constantly run the exact same TV shows every day. Its really odd. But still a nice lunch!
