They have great options of sizzling plates. The food is always fresh and delicious, even better with their amazing sauces! They also have other types of traditional japanese food such as donburi and udon. The place is not that big but it is worth the wait.

Decent food. Ive had the Pepper Lunch in Japan and this doesnt come close to that. Its good for what it is. You have to pay for water so drink lots of water before you go. You have to ask for all utensils and any other sauce you need.
Walked by this place and saw a really big line. Waited maybe 45 minutes to get a table. I recommend coming early, this place opens late and closes early compared to other restaurants in the plaza and is very hyped right now. The food itself is very instagram-worthy but the taste isnt extraordinary. I recommend coming at least once for the picture! I got the regular but after seeing what my friend got, I actually prefer the chicken sizzling plate more!But honestly, maybe my review is skewed, but I do not like teppanyaki. The food comes and half my meal is burnt and stuck to the plate. :ll maybe its cuz i took too long taking pictures? but it is pretty annoying when all your noodles/rice turn out black
Couldnt call in, left on a dead ring. No online orders from what I can tell as of 06/12/2021. It is crowded around 5PM and I think they might be understaffed only one person seemed to be taking orders while others were cleaning or setting up tables. I ordered a Chicken Katsudon which I enjoyed, but the service makes it a bit trickier to access and order and go. I would only go if I plan to dine-in.
The smells that come out of this place.... yummm. Get prepared for a crowded parking lot and about an hour or so wait to get a table. I definitely recommend dropping someone off to put your name down and then finding parking. But once youre in there the food comes out pretty quick and the portions arent huge so you finish pretty quick. I got the number 5 which was ramen noodles and beef with corn and I added an egg. Not a bad way to spend 10 dollars.
The food here is very good and full of flavor. I got the unagi pepper rice with egg. The only downside to the food is it comes out on a skillet so it is piping hot. The service on the other hand is terrible. I would give zero stars if I could. I asked for water with my food and they brought out a tiny glass of water. The food was so hot that I kept having to drink water so I was out of water very quickly. Our server took awhile to come back to the table for me to get a chance to ask for more water. I did so and my friend ordered a diet coke. Our server brought my friend the diet coke quickly, but did not bring my water. I got up to use the restroom and noticed our server carrying a tray of water, so I thought one of them forsure had to be for me. However, when I returned from the restroom I still did not have more water. The food had cooled down enough for me to eat by now and it was delicious. Great food bad service.
Prepare yourself for a long wait during lunch or dinner time. Always crowded. The food is quite oily for me. I have sore throat after eating the food. But THE FOOD IS STILL GOOD, especially when thug wanna done hot fried udon & beef (and you dont wanna cook@home)
Was expecting more here in terms of flavor. Got the #1 beef pepper and it was just a really basic rice with beef & very salty flavor. Not bad, but nothing really that makes this stand out or a reason to come back. Adding mushroom and egg helped a little, but you could get something similar almost anywhere that serves beef with rice.
1. Menu is mislabeled..2. They serve too much rice and too little protein.I ordered #15 beef curry. The picture on the menu showed pork katsu, however, next to the picture it said “Rice, beef, curry”. So I thought the picture shows beef curry. And turned out it’s not. And I didn’t even find beef in the curry, until carefully “investigating” it.

I love the #9, the pork katsu on the sizzling plate. I feel bad for the guy below me who doesnt know how to eat. Whenever I order it I include add ons and extra sauces. My favorite add on combo is mushroom with cheese, it melts so beautifully on the pork katsu. If I want a little more flavor I sometimes add extra meat with a side of garlic butter to add more flavor to the meal. I also dont dump the rice on the plate like a noob because I like to add my corn and spinach onto the rice bowl it comes with. There are also other ways of adding more flavor to the rice which compliments the meal, like adding sriracha sauce to the rice, or their spicy vinegar sauce, or mixing their spicy mayo sauce with the teriyaki sauce in the rice bowl. *cheffy kiss* muy delicioso

What really kicks this up a notch is their garlic butter, it adds so much flavor to the dish.I usually order a 2nd portion of meat and its tricky to cook the extra meat the way I want. I found the best way is cook all the meat is to sear it on both sides quickly and then stick it under the rice/noodles.This place is always crowded and sometimes it takes a while to get your food after you order. Still, People are willing to wait for good food.

Was introduced to this place by my friend a couple months ago. I go here every time Im near San Jose. Closest thing Ive had in the US to the pepper steak meals Ive had in Japan. Really good. Not a fan of curry powder on it (I think #2?) but thats personal preference. Gyozas crispy and yummy. Noodles are alright but I prefer the rice mixed with the sauce.My only warning is to be careful going to this place on Saturdays. Its located in a heavy Asian restaurant area and when its busy, I swear its like people in that parking lot forget how to drive. Consistently happens to me every time Ive gone on a weekend and too many close calls in my experience. Place is lovely, though.

This is one of my favorite places to go. Im always happy with the #2 (curry lover). I also ask for the curry powder shaker cause what they put is never enough for me.The beef is flavorful and the mixture of beef rice and corn with the different seasonings go well together. I like to add the sweet sauce while the plate is still hot so it gets cooked in with the food.The only complaint I have is the last few times Ive been there is the rice was over cooked. It comes out too wet / soggy (hence the 4 stars).Will visit again.
For dinner, we decided to eat at Pepper Lunch USA because of the popularity. A fast-steak restaurant serves on a iron skillet. They also serve noodle, but thats not what they known for. Before the place was open at 5:30pm for dinner, a line already forming outside the restaurant and it was long. Fortunately, we got there early and were seated at the first round. I noticed some people didnt make it in and continue to wait. If you ask me to wait 45 minutes to one hour for a seat, I would have left to go to a different restaurant. I dont like to wait, especially for food. There are so many options in Milpitas Square. As for food, I ordered the number two thinly sliced ribeye steak with their special soy sauce and rice. It is pretty good, but not good enough for me to wait forty-five minutes.
Its hot outside. Please dont sit on the bench because if you dont have a long sleeves, you might end up getting a sunburn. And great service, they can be very busy around 3pm, the line take long like 35mins to enter in but first write you name on the notebook inside. Some people go left and didnt come back on time thats why it took long time wait. Mmm Im telling you the foods are great, delicious 😋. I was so full. Enjoy your food!
Had to try this place out, since it was recommended by a fellow food lover and only one location here in the U.S.A . So since I was in the area I just had to it. There are plenty of free parking, but can be a bit challenging on a weekend during peak dining hours .We got to the place around 2 pm and still a wait outside . But the diners are pretty quick so the wait was not bad at all. I ordered the rib eye steak and though it was delicious, it was hard to cut my steak while it was sizzling on the super hot plate . Maybe next time Ill ask them to cut my steak before they put it on the hot plate . So I can flip the pieces easier and have an even wellness done to my steak. Other than that the food and service was quick and awesome .
Really good iron plates. Curry beef udon and curry beef fried rice are super flavorful! 🍛 It fit my palette of strong, heavy flavors, but may not appeal to everyone.
There is a big hype regarding Pepper Lunch. The idea of a sizzling platter of meat, rice, and butter topped with insane amounts of pepper is very appetizing but the balance just isnt there. The food is overpowered with the pepper and garlic butter. The meat is tasty and the rice is flavorful but very greasy and they dont complement each other very well. I really want to like this place but it just doesnt taste as good as it sounds.
I came here after seeing pretty pictures of the food on social media. The first time I came here was a few years ago, and I went back a couple months ago. I didnt know what to expect my first time (other than a cool picture to upload on Facebook), so perhaps that is why I enjoyed it more? Getting served your food cooking on a hot metal plate is a cool experience (and photo op), so if youre looking for something different with friends, I recommend this place!This place is in a big, Asian plaza near a bunch of tech buildings. Parking shouldnt be difficult.
You get a lot of white rice and a decent amount of beef. But its not seasoned as many reviewers had mentioned, and thus not very good. On the table theres terriyaki, soy sauce, and red pepper seasoning.We also got udon. The noodle is good but the soup is mostly soy sauce. And again, lacking any flavor.For an extra few dollars there are many other options in the plaza with better value, and without the wait. Tuesdays have least amount of wait.Place is clean and service is friendly and fast.
Usually I love going here. But the last time I went, they brought my hamburger steak out, not even sizzling on the plate. I aksed them why, and they told me thats how it comes out? Really? Then why did it come out sizzling the last time I ordered it? Also, the egg is suppose to be sunny side up with a runny yolk, not overcooked to death to the point where they might as well be scrambled eggs.

The ribeye steak is not what it used to be. Its a thin piece of ribeye and it cooks to well on the hotplate. The garlic butter is still good though. Probably the beef udon or beef rice is the best option here.
I always forget to take a photo before I start eating! The food is that good. Service is great and the manager always has a smile on his face. Kids love it too. Definitely a place our whole family enjoys. Were regulars!
Decent meal but not the same as their original Japanese style. I had been to Pepper Lunch in Japan many times and it is not the same recipes. No placemat paper to block the oil splatter either.
I am usually cautious to eat at japanese restaurants in the USA, but this place was absolutely delicious. Try one of the sizzling plates and youll be very satisfied. I tried the salmon steak, it was great. And the staff is super friendly and polite, I do not know how they do it, may be they had a training in Japan?

Wow, Im glad I gave this place another chance. Its been what, 6-7 years? I forgot why I had such a vendetta against this place but tonight was awesome. The wait wasnt too bad considering that the staff flipped tables quickly. We were 12th in line and we managed to get a table with 35 minutes! Not too shabby.One of the waiters, his name was Willy was super accommodating to my crazy order of curry beef udon sizzling plate with a side of unagi don. Everything was pretty tasty. Curry udon was $11.95 and the added unagi Don was only $6.50. What. A. Steal. Its safe to say that I left fully satisfied with my meal! Willy was a true gem, he was accommodating, attentive, and friendly beyond belief. I will definitely be back.
Place was fine. The seasoning was lacking and the plates are basic. Like nothing wrong just not worth the 30 min wait and all the hype. I would come back but not if I have to wait like I did (and that seems no be the norm).

This Pepper Lunch is situated in a pretty big plaza, but its always hard to find parking unless you arrive early. Its a pretty small restaurant so there is usually a line that starts forming right before they open for lunch or dinner. They have a electronic wait list that you can join. Depending on when you come, the wait could be anywhere from 20-45 minutes.The dishes are pretty simple: sizzling plates with combinations of meat, rice/udon noodles, and corn. There is also udon soup, Japanese curry, and appetizers (edamame, croquettes, etc). Its pretty simple and they provide you with curry powder, teriyaki sauce, and other condiments to make your dish extra yummy.Would definitely recommend!
I seriously cannot understand why this place is so popular. The only cool thing about it is the sizzling hot plate. Its not even a new concept and not uniquely theirs. Vietnamese have had the concept for years. Its popular in SoCal, just not it NorCal. And trust me, its way better.About the food, they definitely do not season their meat at all. So youre telling me to pay to cook my own food?!? They literally do no work. All they do is put on the plates raw meat, cooked rice and some corn and you cook and season it yourself with all the spices on the table. Cant we all do that at home?Definitely a no for me.
Its a self-service teppanyaki plate dining experience.While they do serve bento plates and udon noodles, the main draw is the teppanyaki plates. It may seem odd at first, but the novelty sets in pretty quickly.The idea is that they provide the rice and protein and you cook it to the rareness of your preference.My suggestion would be to spread any meat not in contact with the plate onto any available spot so that the heat isnt wasted; shift around the rice and noodles if necessary. Let the meat sit for a good 30 - 40 seconds so that it can undergo the Mailliard reaction. Once a noticeable browning is visible upon inspection, flip the meat over to cook the other side. After another 40 - 50 seconds, use the garlic soy sauce and generously dress the protein and carbs with it. Season with pepper and shichimi and you are ready to eat.
Pepper lunch is definitely a lunch go to place but be prepared for long lines during the weekends and prepare to smell like delicious garlic butter meat after finishing that delicious meal. Go for any of the 5 original plates and make sure you ask for the garlic butter if they have the option!
This place is the OG of sizzling rice skillet plate. Ive been dining here for years and love the simple sliced beef with rice and corns. Place is always packed but it goes pretty quickly.
Our favorite place to go when family is in town. The sizzling plates are amazing, mix them quick or slow, your choice. Udon is tasty and the combo with unagi is great. Sad, but enticing that its the only one in America.

Everything is the same here for many years. Except when gets busy your hot iron plate may not be as hot that the raw meat will not be fully cooked. Make sure ask server and they will heat it up for you.

Waited 30 minutes for a table. Recieved text saying table would be ready soon. They skipped me and called people who signed list after me. Asked host why and he said Id be next. 15 minutes later and three tables seated later (parties of 2), I still hadnt been seated. Not sure if it was because they didnt want to waist a table on party of 1 or because I was the only white guy in line, but it definitely wasnt because I wasnt there to hear my name called. Then the guy gave me lip for wasting his time and not being patient.

The food was still hot when we got home, and it was cooked well and portioned nicely. Bonus is that normally I get an egg, but I got to save on buying one at Pepper Lunch and made one at home. Luckily I also had togarashi at home; but Pepper Lunch was kind enough to send along some of their garlic soy sauce with our order!!
When the food is put down on the table, stop talking, pick up those chopsticks and work fast or risk having raw meat! No worries though, theyll happily throw it back on the grill and reheat it.
Its an interesting experience. You get to cook your own food on a sizzling hot plate. Its good if you like grilled meat. Get an extra serving of meat when you order.
The best teppanyaki dishes in the area. The beef and rice plate are excellent but be prepared to mix them to cook since the beef is served raw and the hot plate cooks them at the table!

I cant believe this is an Asian chain that happens to be in mimosas, and their food is amazing! Dont be scared of the teriyaki sauce and asking for extra garlic butter, its the best!
Not sure what happened to this place. Since the pandemic the food quality has gone waaaay done. The meat is bland and not edible. Looks like they also changed owners recently.

2023-10-29 03:02:33Went in on Friday evening for dinner. Didn’t wait in line but there were enough people so only few tables were free. Cordial welcome from the waiter and the food came out fast. A combo sizzling plate was great to be shared between two people who were medium hungry. The sizzling pan was not only satisfying for audiovisual but was so tasty with the sauce. Definitely will be back

But dont worry, the wait staff will remind you not to touch the plate with your bare hands, unless you want to end up with some seriously crispy fingers. And lets not forget the garlic butter - its like liquid gold! I swear, I could put that stuff on cardboard and it would still taste amazing. But dont take my word for it, ask for extra and try it for yourself.Now, when it comes to the special sauce, I have to say its a bit like a first date - light and sweet, but not too overwhelming. On the other hand, the teriyaki sauce is like a second date - more bold and salty, but still leaving you wanting more. The atmosphere at Pepper Lunch USA is also super friendly. Youll feel like youre part of the family, especially when you take a whiff of the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen. And if youre lucky enough to snag a seat, you might even make some new friends while waiting for your food.But lets be real, the mushroom and egg might help a little, but the real star of the show is the sizzling plate. Its like a mini party on your table! Just be warned, the rice portion might be a bit too much for some. So bring your appetite and your stretchy pants, because once you try Pepper Lunch USA, youll keep coming back for more.

2023-03-11 05:31:28First time visiting Pepper Lunch, but it wont be my last.We stopped by for lunch around 11:45 am and were greeted and seated immediately. The place was completely empty so we werent sure if they were open yet. Three friendly waiters helped us get seated.For our party of three, we ordered the #1 beef with rice, curry beef with rice, and pork katsu with rice. We were immediately served soup and salad. Both were tasty and got our appetites going for our entrées.Our food came not long after finishing our soup and salad. The plates were sizzling and smelled delicious. We were provided with different sauces, garlic butter (a must try), and some chili powder.All of the plates were delicious, but my favorite part was how the garlic butter helped put a nice crust on the beef and got the rice nice and fried on the bottom. Definitely get the garlic butter and spread it over everything! It adds a richness to each bite.By the time we left, there wasnt an empty seat. There was also a crowd waiting, so we were lucky to beat the rush. Great spot for a meal!

Service was efficient and attentive, no mistakes on the orders.We ordered the following:Main Dishes:- Beef pepper rice: great staple on the menu which satiated my friends craving for pepper lunch- Curry Beef pepper rice: great meal with nice portion size- Pork Katsudon: good amount of fried meat, which was light and not that greasy. The fried egg was fluffy and complimented the texture of the meat nicely. However, there was too much rice at the bottom of the bowl, took the leftover meat as leftovers though.Appetizers:- Agedashi Tofu: excellent dish that hits the spot during those cold nights. Really warmed our stomachs.- Fried Calamari: nice flavor and char, crunchy and paired well with their Sriracha mayo sauceWould come again if I was in the area; thought, I would go to a closer place in my area that had cheaper prices for their sizzling dishes.

2020-01-04 23:44:04This place has been here in Milpitas square for a while, I remember eating here back in the day as a great place to get lunch and hang out with friends. It has not changed. The food quality is still great and so is the line. Prices are decent and the portions are fairly big. This place gets really busy and will even close thier waitlist if there are too many people, so I recommend coming here early. My wife ordered the sizzling rice and beef and I got the same except with noodles, they also serve donburi if you are into that. They have a pretty extensive menu. You have to request the garlic butter, as they dont always just give it to you. Teriyaki sauce is at the table, so you can add as much as you want. Our kids loveI come here often, so I definately reccomend it.

2022-07-29 02:45:53Went today with a friend and overall a good experience. Food was fairly priced and tasted pretty good. I ordered the pepper beef Udon and I liked the portion size and the flavor was nice. One critique I have of this restaurant is the lack of seasoning or sauces to put on the food. Ive been to similar restaurants that serve sizzling noodles and rice and they had a variety of sauces and seasonings that you can put on your food to make it even better. The complementary miso soup came with noodles instead of tofu and seaweed which was odd, but tasted pretty good. The customer service was really good. Overall a decent experience.

2022-04-06 21:19:16Tried this place for lunch on a Friday. The place was packed but the food was wonderful. I had the beef pepper rice and it came out sizzling and smelling savory. The garlic, butter, pepper and sliced beef with rice was so good that I had to go again the next week. This time I was there at lunch on a Wednesday. Practically had the place to myself, but food was still great. This time I had the curry beef pepper rice with a Sapporo beer, so good with the cinnamon spice in the rice this time. Overall a great experience. 👍

2022-10-01 20:34:15I’ve been to their competitors as well as their sister franchisees in LA. This one is old school (first franchise in North America) and still is the best. They give u so much beef and food that u do NOT need to add extra anything.Come early on weekends. Waits are more manageable now.
