KoKoLo Donburi - Milpitas

This is a beautiful Japanese restaurant located in the McCarthy Ranch in Milpitas. The food is okay in terms of taste. The presentation is not that appealing. I will give them credit for serving me hot food. I dont frequent Japanese restaurants so I cant make a comparison. The prices are comparable to other local restaurants. Expect to spend in the neighborhood of $20.
Juban Ramen & Tapas
1244 S Abel St, Milpitas, CA 95035, United States
A very good little mom and pop Japanese restaurant! This restaurant is definitely not all Japanese, it is Japanese with a Korean flare to it (I.e boneless chicken with Korean sauce). We ordered 3 different tapas and a ramen to share. The ramen was good but not great, but everything else was very good. All in all, this place is nothing fancy, but it is a excellent place to try if you are around the area and want something Japanese that is not sushi!
My No.1 Sushi & Tofu

This was my 2nd time coming to this restaurant and its very much safe to say, that this was my LAST!!!!!I very much encourage everyone considering to come to this restaurant to go across the street for better food and customer service. We arrived to the restaurant on a Saturday at 5pm (opening) with a reservation for a party of 8. When we got inside, there was only one other small family dining in. The lady (who is extremely rude, has no manners and poor customer service) showed us our reserved table which included a booth/chairs. Since our party has 2 pregnant women and a small baby, we asked the lady if it would be okay to move our reservation to a table that has all chairs so it would be easier for people to get in and get out considering their unlimited side bars and more importantly its much easier and convenient for our 2 pregnant women. The lady was not accommodating telling us that the restaurant is saving the tables/chairs for parties of 10+ because it was the weekend. This made absolutely zero sense - the lady was clearly on some sort of power trip and LAZY because she did not want to move some tables around for us. She even mentioned that we could go to a different restaurant if we wanted too! In hindsight, we absolutely should have, but eventually, the lady got off her high horse and agreed that we can move to a different table with all chairs. After putting in our order, we went to the unlimited side bar to see what they had. One thing I noticed was that they discontinued offering JAPCHAE, all of the provided unlimited items are a much smaller portion than when I went a few months ago, and they no longer serve ice cream as a dessert.Such a bummer! But also, not surprised as this was a very poor showing of the restaurant which is a clear reflection of the rude and unprofessional lady working there! The lady working was also so slow at getting us our water! We also had to flag her down for all of the refills on tea... yikes!Anyways, if you want to come to this restaurant, please be prepared to pay for OVERPRICED food (each food item is about $18+), mediocre side bar, rude customer service, poor customer service, flag people down to get refills on drinks, and oh - the kicker - THEY CHARGE YOU FOR TAKE OUT CONTAINERS!!!! They charge $1 for a big one which is a standard take out container, and $0.50 for a small one which can barely fit anything. What an absolute joke!Dont be a fool and support this restaurant. I wont be coming back ever again and will absolutely be telling all my friends and family to not come either. If anyone knows of any customer service type classes that I can send to the lady working there, please dont hesitate to message me as I can relay the link to her!
Sumiya Bento

Im a fan of SUMIYA YAKITORI in Sunnyvale. I do however like this concept...a sister restaurant... Well more like a little sister...lol. I hope they make it...the last few restaurants in this location didnt survive. This shopping center got hit hard during the pandemic...I remember struggling to find parking during lunch or dinner hours. Now there is plenty of parking, I reckon most of the surrounding companies are employing the hybrid work model... therefore the food traffic is not the same as before. Sumiya Bento is a fast casual venue, unlike its older sibling SUMIYA YAKITORI. Food is tasty and portions are a good size, but it does take some time to make. I think our food took about 10-15 min to come out and we were the first people in the restaurant. All the combos are custom...pick and choose type of menu. My biggest complaint is the the strong dislike for the all plastic packaging.Bento time:~ Bento B w/ Ontama Rice, Nasu Agebitashi & Ume Miso Dressing - 4/5I do wish the skewers were a little bit bigger though...I feel they are on the smaller side. Eat the beef on first...doesnt taste the same when it cools down...in fact its not good cold. Everything else was brilliant! the dressing and the sauces had great flavor.Ill be back...

Customer Service is garbage. No one acknowledges your presents until they want too. If you order Sushi dont bother them with questions. The specialty rolls only have the tuna filling from the California Roll on topas to charge $2-$4 more for them. Also, the condiment station was gross. Everyone touching siracha bottles and throwing them back on the counter with sauce split out. Food like Chicken and veggies littered the counter top left over from previous orders as 2 employees were just standing waiting for something to tell them what to do.
Sen Dai Sushi
224 N Abel St, Milpitas, CA 95035, United States
This place was fairly close to my hotel and had good reviews, so I decided to grab some sashimi and ikura nigiri for takeout. The prices seemed about average for the area, and the photos on Google Maps looked pretty good, but thats not always the best indicator of how good a place really is. I added a slight modification to my order asking for no escolar in the sashimi selection. I arrived a minute before I was notified my order would be ready and sure enough, they were placing it on the front counter as I walked in. The 10 pieces of sashimi were incredibly well prepared and presented and were as big as you can get before they start to be too large (the proper slicing and sizing of sashimi is a big deal for sushi chefs). They were served at a perfect temp and were as fresh as Ive had recently. The ikura nigiri was pretty good, but definitely nowhere near as good as the fish. Overall, this place was one of the better Japanese restaurant experiences I have had in the Bay Area lately, and Ive been eating a LOT of Japanese food around here. LOL. If you like fresh sashimi at a good price, this is your spot in Milpitas.
Ichika

Was skeptical with Ichika, a relatively new fine dining Japanese restaurant in Milpitas. Location is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Reservations are recommended. Decor and atmosphere is modern and welcoming. We tried the prix fixe menu for $168 per person. Value was okay considering some premium cuts like bluefin tuna toro and wagyu beef. Presentation was good as well, feels like they put some thought into the serving plates. Overall a good experience.

I am usually cautious to eat at japanese restaurants in the USA, but this place was absolutely delicious. Try one of the sizzling plates and youll be very satisfied. I tried the salmon steak, it was great. And the staff is super friendly and polite, I do not know how they do it, may be they had a training in Japan?

I recommend you order sushi, not the dish that I ordered (shrimp tempura with deep fried vegetables).I can never find a good Japanese restaurant in the south bay that knows how to use the right flour to cook shrimp tempura. I have to go to the City, SF, that is.Dont order any tempura. The couple next to me order sushi, and the dish looks very tantalizingly delicious. The place is small so sit at the yellow sushi bar.I rate it 3☆ (for the restaurant) to be nice but my dish is 2☆.
