This is my familys favorite place to eat sushi. The food is excellent and so is the customer service. We have come here for a couple of years now and have gotten to know the family that runs this place. They treat our family as family. Luv this place, I highly recommend it.
Ive been going here for quite a few years but when I went today I found out theyre under new ownership. The new ownership and staff are really cool.I decided to try something different today so I tried the Korean Chirashi and the Yasmotos roll. Both were really really good. Whatever the sauce is on the Chirashi its really good, I took some home. They have a new menu with some Korean dishes so Ill be trying more new things next time I go back.Theyll be updating the online and in store menu soon. Im looking forward to trying some of the new menu items. They also have $1 & $2 sushi pieces every day so check them out.
This is my favorite place ever. I usually go 2 times a month, ill try something new each time and Im never disappointed!
Beautifully decorated with the utmost detail, quick and friendly service, and the food was incredible. Most definitely recommend, and will absolutely go back.
Wowed by Aurora’s great and attentive service, even during a busy lunch crowd. (Always a good sign) This was the most delicious boat we’ve had .While the cream cheesed, avocado stuffed, deep fried rolls are great, it was tasty to enjoy all the different fish in a fresh dish. Gluten free friendly. Theyll make substitutions to their rolls to accommodate a gluten allergy. Great service and friendly.

Although the waiter was very kind and friendly, he could have been a lot more attentive. I watched him help the young girls at the table next to us, but he never asked if our table was OK. I had to grab my own napkins and anything else I might have needed on my own. My table spent over a $150, the girls next to me each bought a cheap roll and made disgusting puke sounds while they ate it. Apparently I need to be under 24 yrs old to get any service from this particular waiter. On an positive note, the cook was was impeccable with his sushi rolls and the food was phenomenal. They accommodated weird requests made by my mother in law and child, and did not make us feel like we were being a burden. I will definitely go back, I will just be a lot more vocal about my displeasure with the waiter next time. Honestly Ill probably just get my food to go.

This restaurant used to be my favorite until the new owners (Koreans) took over. The food quality has gone down hill. The portion became smaller. And the prices have gone up. In other words, the value is terrible. If the poor food quality doesnt turn you off, the service will. It takes a very long time to get your order. The dining area is very small and uncomfortable. So, overpriced menu plus poor service plus uncomfortable seating arrangement have earned this restaurant a negative 5-star rating. So, the one-star above is there only because negative 5-star isnt available.

We had the Lion roll and Philadelphia roll and they were both phenomenal! The salmon literally melted in our mouths. The sauces werent too overpowering and the rolls were both very well balanced in terms of ingredients.Staff were very friendly and polite and service was super quick, despite it being relatively busy - we had our rolls on our table within 15 mins of ordering. What a gem of a place!

My hubby and i stopped in for the first time today. We ordered to go and waiting a very short about of time. They staff didnt over while reading the menu just kept a eye for when we looked ready i loved that. And one bit and i will hands down day it was the best tasting salmon iv ever had and will refuse to go any where else now. The decor was amazing too. So clean so refreshing.

Food is really good, been here several times before, but for some reason last two times I been walking in to place an order, they told me they weren’t taking order at the moment, I walk in a little before 6pm when they close at 8pm according with their sign. If they are only taking phone order because pandemic I will completely understand it if they have a sign at the door or say that to me, but walk in to order and have services denied when still a couple hrs for them to close with no reason make me feel unwelcome, great food a little pricy but is worthed. Maybe my luck who knows but to get services denied for a third time better look some other place. Thank youI keep trying to give it a chance to this place, on a Wednesday afternoon, waiting time for pickup is 45 minutes.?, they don’t have a friendly website to do online ordering, neither a menu where you can place your order with at leas 2 hrs in advance to make sure it will be ready, i guess they should put delivery and dine in only because for take out is always 40 to 1 the estimated time they give you, they either want you to give up and walk away or they are that busy giving priority to deliveries and dine in. Maybe excellent food, who know I hasn’t be able to try it anymore, but terrible guess services.
The food quality isnt here any more. It looks like the new owner has cut corner too much. This restaurant is now run by a young Korean man with a very bad attitude. Poor customer service and low bang-for-buck ratio at this joint will keep me (and my friends) away. This restaurant used to be good. But now rudeness and Korean-styled Japanese foods make it an undesirable place.
Lunch was delicious 🤤 This place has some amazingly flavorful Sushi super fresh exactly the way I like it presentation was very creative Jacob has such a passion for his Job! Definitely will be coming back for lunch! Even ordered some to go!
The food was so good! The kiss of fire roll was AMAZING! And the guys working were super chill! All the decorations were cute and the stuff on TV was good too! All together it makes for a really friendly atmosphere. I had never tried this place before but me and hubby decided to check it out for date night. We had a wonderful meal & we’ll definitely be going back!

First time at this place. A friend recommended this place, albeit, he hadnt been to this place for a long time! My mom and I went for lunch at 12:30. I ordered sushi, my mom ordered chicken teriyaki plate ( she cant eat sushi) and asked if they would substitute the California rolls for something else, the waitress went to ask and returned with a no!So she changed her order to a chicken bowl, the waitress returns and tells us, sorry but we dont have chicken, its just marinating so we wont have any right now! Are you kidding me?? The karate kid behind the counter was super sweet and nice, apologized but the other big guy that looked as if he had just rolled out of bed was most unfriendly.We were trying the place out bcuz we were going to have them cater an event or just order food to go for this event. Whether they had chicken marinating at 12:30 lunch time or not is incredible to believe! First impressions count and we were stunned that they were unprepared. They lost out, we were prepared to pay a lot for our celebration so we decided to go elsewhere! Never returning!
Poor quality fish! Not at all how I remembered it! Will not be returning. Had soup, salad, calamari and sashimi. The only decent thing was the soup. Everything else was poor!
What can I say? Best sushi in town. You come in and are immediately greeted with kindness as if your family. The food is amazing and the drinks pair perfectly with the food. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. And the sushi. Oh the sushi such a wonderful experience! Come and enjoy!

We were excited to eat here cause the vibe was cool. Sadly, the rice was over cooked and mushy on both sushi rolls. The wait was longer than 30. When I ordered the tempura fried roll it was pretty gross since the rice was mushy with the mushy tempura. The only good thing was the waiter, he was really nice and had good customer service.
New owners but the sushi is still great !Edit: The waiting time was longer than 40 minutes for a chicken teriyaki bowl. The sushi came out fast, but everyone in the table should be getting their food around the same time. Half of my table had finished eating by the time the other food came out. The sushi is still really good though.
My family and I have been coming here for years. The food was always great when the previous owners had it. My daughter and I recently went for the first time in a year. We Were told it was under new ownership, so decided to try it out. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. Unfortunately it took way to long to get our food and the quality was not as good as it use to be. Hopefully things get better for them.

I use to come in here all the time and easily order the California roll, but the young male waited was very rude to me and treated me in a uncaring bad attitude like I was stupid. I ended up not ordering anything and walking out quickly leaving my card. My daughter really wanted sushi and was so excited. She was disappointed and shocked afterwards . I was sad I couldnt ger her sushi. Never has that happened before and I will never go back again.
I still love this place with the new owners! The food is always delicious, the staff is friendly and we love the updated look. Just be patient when they are busy but its worth the wait.
My Mom and I both enjoy the food and the staff. Our go to favorite rolls are the Your Mom, Caterpillar 2 and Spicy Tuna and would recommend them to anyone who comes in. The combination tempura is always a great start. The employees there are friendly and nice, especially the Mom and Daughter. They start preparing the Caterpillar roll when we walk in because they remember that we like it so much.
Samurai sushi has always been my husband and mine’s favorite place to go in Turlock. They recently have new owners and my husband and his family were close to the previous owners but we still wanted to keep supporting this business. The food is still amazing and the employees are always super nice and welcoming. This will continue to be our favorite sushi spot.
I have been skeptical about this restaurant for years... i have a personal favorite restaurant but my boyfriend loves Samurai Sushi. So being me, I’ve tried this place for the sole purpose of my boyfriend and let me please tell you this place is good. The atmosphere is great, very family oriented and friendly people and the food is great! I have continued coming here ever since and all I know and want is samurai sushi now!!!
I have eaten at this place 6-7 times over the last three months. Service is good the owners are nice, but the rolls are not good. Very very little fish and a lot of rice on the rolls. The only people that would like this place are the deep fried roll type with lots of sauce.
Ask yourself. Should you really be eating sushi in Turlock? I was on the toilet for a very long time. It was good though. Very good. I actually dont think you can get better sushi unless you head up to Stockton. The people are way too nice for you to not give them your business too.
The sushi here is OUTSTANDING. The I Love Yellowtail Roll is my favorite. N if you are a fan of ramen, try the Naruto Ramen- you will return with cravings like me!
Ive loved this place and eaten here since the mid 90s when they opened up in Turlock...they have new owners but still have the best service and best sushi Im slowly working on the new menu to discover my new favorites...
No objections, the food is great. But weve been coming here for the last 2 years or so and the service has gone to a horrible place. Which stinks because we LOVE the food. But I dont much like feeling ignored/avoided by the server. Today was only the 4th time we are served by her and it made me lower my rating on her attitude alone.
I am not a huge fan of this new to-go place... :-( I miss the 1st owners, their food was made not to be showy or impress, just easily leave me and my kids feeling satisfied! Back then it was simple, original and delicious!! I am unable to find another place like the old Samurai. Miss the real food, miss dining in seeing their faces SO much! but we know that the restaurant was not their WHOLE life - they always had much to look forward to w/o us! I am sure that the new owners thank them for their long successful work years getting the new business where it is now... !!!
The fish on sushi is fresh. The service was terrible!! I had to wait long time to be attended, my plate was in the bar for 5 min or more, waiting for the waiter. He came to my table without chopsticks or silverware or napkins. I had to go to the kitchen for them. The check was wrong (more than the menu said) $27, after correction was $18,98 for a California roll and a miso soup, I think is still expensive. The guy on the tables, doesn’t have 4 hands for a miracle! He takes phone, to go and table orders, wash the dishes, and waiter. I think they need more employees. The lady on the bar looks nice, but doesn’t help too much. The sushi maker looks clean, but didn’t use (PPE), no gloves or mask or apron. I don’t think so, I’ll be here in this place. Last Sunday was closed, and I visited an Indian restaurant next door, it was awesome! Today I’m doing generous with 3 stars.

This place use to my favorite sushi place since the original owners daughter was just a little girl. Now the sushi is not as good and the menu is different. My favorite items are no longer there.
Definitely my favorite sushi place around! I travel a lot for work and whenever I come to Turlock this is where I go to grab dinner. Same people have ran it for as long as Ive been coming (the past three years) and the food and service is always great!
Its an alright place, good for sushi but be careful about the mama mia I got it and didnt know there would be crunchy shrimp because they only offer one menu to look at when you walk in due to Covid restrictions ok restaurants, which made me only glance at the menu, but overall good price, great tasting
Staff is super friendly and even gave us some of their drink stash. With short staff and under pressure, they provide great service. Definitely will be coming back !!!
I don’t want to give this restaurant any stars but in order to write a review you need to give a star.Me and my husband waisted 35 dollars on the lobster roll. It looked like they took one order and split it in half. I don’t know what happened but as soon as I got home I got sick like something didn’t go well when they prepared it. Who knows long story short food sucked and I wish I could get a refund
Atmosphere is slightly lacking only because no music was playing in the background which is kind of awkward at times. But the rolls were great. I was a little disappointed because they didnt have yellowtail, but the rolls I got were fabulous. There are a ton of roll options. Fried and non-fried. I got the Rose and Samarai roll, they also have spicy indicators. And the spicy is actually spicy. The rolls were large with a lot of rice. They also serve an actual Japanese beer 🍺 not just Sapporo. They have daily specials and the service was great. I would go back. It is small and has a lack of music but everything else was great.

I love this place. really good American-style sushi.My favorite has to be their Forever Samurai roll. I cant recall what sort of fish is in it (Its kind of rainbowey iridescent), but it also has shrimps and is drizzled with a sweet sauce. Its also freaking big. Like a damn sushi burrito of awesome.Very friendly staff. Nice and low-key. Great place to grab a roll, drink a beer, and relax.Now Ive got a craving... Also, they do phone-order carry-out! Which is what Im going to do right now.
Everything on the menu is delicious. Family run, very friendly. Everything is fresh, fresh, fresh! Only place we will go for sushi. And we dont live locally, about 45 mins away. Yes there is one in our town, ate there once, we all got sick.....never again. Samurai Sushi is the best😉

Not a bad place by any means but they just dont stand out. Unfortunately, they like to put the same sauces on every roll so they all end up tasting exactly the same despite being constructed with quite different ingredients. Maybe its just me? I dont get it.

OPEN EVERYDAY! Which is HUGE for a small town where people have different schedules. They have literally, EVERY roll that you can imagine and its never a let down overall! Searched for sushi, this place popped up with great reviews. Huh, guess well give it a shot.Pulled in to an ugly shopping park and already Im regretting it. Getting a serious abandoned shopping mall vibe to it. Cant be good. Must be friends of theirs pumping it up for them, right?Wrong. The sushi was great! Couldnt believe it. The guy waiting on us was super nice and the dude making sushi (his dad Im guessing) was talking in Japanese to his wife? How the heck did this family end up out here?Highly recommend if youre driving by.
Restaurant management has gone down since Moon left. I checked the place out after Walmart shopping and noticed the different owners, new chefs.. only the same sauces. Very tacky roll name choices. My roll had low quality fish.
Samurai sushi has my all time favorite roll,the Elizabeth roll. It was the first sushi I ever ate 7 years ago. The couple that own the restaurant are very family oriented and make you feel very welcome. By far the best sushi in Turlock.
They do NOT acomodate to vegetarians so do not go if you have a vegetarian diet or have one similar. They couldnt even substitute anything for asparagus in any of the sushi because apparently it was impossible for them to switch out something I couldnt eat for a vegetable. Will not be returning ever and the service was not good either very disappointed. I would rate NEGATIVE 5 stars if I could.

The restaurant is small and cozy. I like the quiet atmosphere. The prices are not expensive nor cheap. Dinner for two would be around $50, depending on your order. The service was great even though they are understaff. The food looked appetizing and it was delicious! We will definitely eat here again! 😊

Coming from the bay area I became very very VERY picky when it came to sushi. Ive tried several place around the area with no luck. I can honestly say that this place will be my go to spot from now on! Customer service was awesome, sushi was phenomenal but only constructive criticism would be that the sushi rice was a little too soggy. The body of the rice was just too mushy with that said everything else was perfect. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Fulll...... nap time lol
This was a really nice place to eat. It was our first time here. The server was nice and everyone that I interacted with was polite. As we were sitting there waiting for our food, we overhead a regular come in ( a couple) and the owner( I assume) and his wife were talking to the couple tand he was recommending sushi they should try since they knew what they liked. Seeing that interaction was little, but showed how the owners loved their work and care for the customer that comes in. They always said thank you to everyone that would leave. The food was really good. Will definitely go back.

First time coming here and definitely my last. Since when is hiding wasabi in the nigiri a good idea? And the fact the owner went and lectured me about telling them to ask for no wasabi because all Japanese restaurants do that is just, no. Ive been to multiple sushi restaurants AND to Japan, and none of them add the green paste of death in their dishes. Put them on the side, but never hidden under a fish. To top it all off they still charged me for the dish when I barely even poked at it. So yeah big disappointment, and watch out for the nigiri.

Ordered teriyaki chicken and edemame take out and for the price, the portion size was very small. Multiple places very close by that are cheaper and you get more. The food was tasty but I am ultimately unsatisfied.

2023-08-19 00:01:29I had some really great philly rolls here. They make them exactly how theyre supposed to be made with salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. The food here is excellent and the service is great. We love the atmosphere here and the people here are very nice.New ownership and new pricing. This is a great small mom and pop sushi bar.Fountain Coke products, beer, no veteran discounts.

2023-09-10 23:54:46Not a good place for regular sushi. All specialty rolls are deep fried, so hard to get something that’s not fried. Ended up ordering their classic tuna roll for $12 and this is what I got. 4 pieces all of differing sizes and cuts.

2023-10-02 23:08:14First off, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. If this review comes off as negative, its because of the dishware and not the staff. The staff were excellent.On to the food. I asked what kind of tea was offered, and was told, hot green tea. Imagine going into an American restaurant and asking about their soda selection, and being told cold sodas, or a French restaurant with chilled wine. It is just not particularly useful to know when considering food pairings. Is it a sencha? Genmaicha? Jasmine?I didnt try the sushi, but ordered a bowl of udon. Flavor and composition-wise, I prefer my own homemade udon, being from an Asian background myself. But thats not important, I ordered the chefs udon, and that was his udon. I didnt order my udon. My problem was with the bowl. The edge of the bowl was slanted. Its hard to explain, and Ive never seen anything like it, so I included a picture. Now, go and Google slanted bowl. Do you see any pictures of the bowl containing soup? No. Because its not a bowl you serve soup in. And again, the bowl is slanted. Where do you rest your chopsticks when youre not using them? The chopstick rest, which wasnt available at the restaurant. Otherwise, across the dish/bowl with your food. Except the bowl is slanted, so the chopsticks roll right off. Where am I supposed to be resting my chopsticks?Seating was honestly fine, it wasnt a large area, but there was some single seats up front and a few larger tables. Its about what Id expect from the establishment.

The number of specialty sushi rolls is sizeable, from fresh rolls, to baked, or deep fried theres something for everyone.My wife went for a teriyaki chicken bento box and the three rolls we tried this visit were the caterpillar, the peter, and the kaisen. All three rolls delicious and fresh. Wasabi and ginger were on point.Weve found the best time to visit is during the lunch hour as in the evenings it can get quite busy, but always worth the wait. If we had to give one critique its that the rice consistency is not as soft/sticky as we like it, but we understand there are different blends of rice and preference differs from person to person. 2023-07-11 10:15:14This place is an absolute hidden gem. The restaurant is small, but clean and well kept. The service was very quick and the employees were very attentive. The kitchen is visible from the dining area and from what I could see, it was clean and pretty well organized, with the line being continuously cleaned and restocked between orders. The staff were all well groomed and the place was well staffed, which means a lot to me, personally.Now onto the food: 10s across the board!!! We tried a specialty roll and a deep fried roll. The specialty roll was so delicious; packed with flavor, texture, and layers upon layers of savory and spicy goodness. The deep fried roll was a surprising treat; the outer breading was perfectly golden and crisp, but the raw salmon inside hadnt been cooked through at all. On both of the rolls, the fish tasted delectably fresh. Both rolls were also served with a generous amount of spicy mayo and teriyaki, adding even more layers of sweet and savory flavor.This is our new favorite sushi place. Clean, friendly staff, incredible food, and great prices. I cannot recommend it more.

2023-09-29 08:56:15The best sushi I’ve had so far here in Turlock. Currently, I’m pregnant so I’m pretty limited right now but my orders are always fresh, tasty, and they are decently priced as well! I’ve ordered for pick up and via DoorDash. Even before pregnancy, all food I’ve had was great.

2023-07-09 00:28:05I am extremely disappointed at this establishment. When hubby and I entered, first I see is there are three guys in the kitchen area. One was wearing a cowboy hat and another wearing a baseball cap. Seriously??? Then it too them time to seat us till the cook w/o a hat pointed us a table and said take any seat. I understand that this is a local business owner with limited staff but with the limited number of tables for customers, I would assume they try to clean the tables as fast as possible for new customers coming in. There was only one clean table for us when we entered. And last but importantly, they don’t have bento box on their menu. This is the first EVER in my years of eating at a “sushi restaurant” when they don’t have a bento box on the menu. Hubby and I walked out and decided to go someplace else to eat. I honestly don’t understand how this place got such rating. I HIGHLY recommend Sushi Cuisine next to Safeway off of Monte Vista if you are looking for authentic sushi. 2021-07-22 15:18:28This is my go to place for sushi, and I dont even live in town. Really good food.Edit: I have to say that ownership of Samurai has changed and so has the flavor profile/menu. This review is no longer accurate to the current style of food, and it seems that you can no longer get the rolls shown in my pictures. As such, I will probably not be making the drive over to Turlock anymore.The food is still good and I liked it a lot, it just wasnt the food that I loved from the old menu. I wish the new owner well.
