San Sai Japanese Grill in Downey

Good size portions. The food was okay. Salads were tasty. Over priced. Staff was friendly.

First time visiting this San Sai location. Weve been going to San Sai in Pasadena for years and we love it! Its been our favorite Japanese fast food spot. So we spotted this San Sai on Firestone Blvd. in Downey, and decided to check it out. JJ ran in and came out, saying lets eat here. He said it looks likes the same menu as Pasadena, and the interior looked inviting.We each ordered our go-to favorites. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bowl with the Sumi (cabbage) salad, and JJ ordered his usual Tempura Plate with the Sumi salad, and instead of the second salad, he orders Miso soup.Prices seemed a bit higher from what I remembered from Pasadena (although we havent been there in awhile), but still reasonable. Service was good and interior was clean and cheerful. We didnt have to wait too long for our order to be ready.Food was very good. Presentation was beautiful. My only comment about the food was that the steamed rice was slightly on the mushy side but passable. Thoroughly enjoyed a nice dinner! Of interest was the fact that JJ rated his Tempura higher than the Pasadena location because he said that it absolutely did not affect his gastric reflux in a negative way, which was excellent!Recommended. Give it a try!

11:00 am Asian guy not friendly and rude and said they dont open until noon. I go back and he said they still arent ready literally a min later he took someone elses order. Gave my business to LEOS TACOS Yummy. My aunty and I had the chicken/carne asada tostada bowl. Yuum!!5 stars..

The food tasted like it was going bad. I ordered steak with my meal and it really upset my stomach. I even ended up vomiting shortly after eating there. Will NOT be going back. Overpriced as well.

Today, I purchased the unique package. Fresh, scrumptious, and very reasonably priced.My parents really enjoyed it and will definitely return. Continue doing an excellent job.

Ordered a spicy crunch tempura roll. Did not disappoint. Cant wait to try the rest on the menu. Couldnt get the camera out quick enough!

The food is always terrific here, were never let down. Ordered the shrimp and vegi tempura 🍤 plate. Excellent tasting and great service.

First time here and I like the food, I order miso soup and California sushi roll, very pleased with my selection, definitely coming back

Food came quickly and staff were polite and helpful. Dining area was rather pleasant. Looking forward to coming here again.

I ordered for pick up 40 mins before closing. I ordered a combo plate and was told their side options were rice, miso soup and salad I asked for one of each. When I arrived for pick up I was told they actually ran out of miso soup so if I wanted extra rice or salad. I asked if I could just get a discount since they didn’t tell me they ran out of Miso soup at time of order. I was told that wasn’t an option. Part of me wanted to just cancel the whole order, but I was starving and had other things on schedule so I just took it. Went home and I go three sides of rice🤦🏻‍♀️. They charged me extra for chicken breast (unrequested). Shrimp tempura was ok, but everything was cold. $23 for an order I wasn’t happy with. As someone who has worked customer service, #1 rule is do right by the customer; the goal is to have the customer come back multiple times not just that one visit. I will not be going back.
