Food was delicious. If you want to try Shanghainese dishes, a good place to go. Price is a bite high compares with other similar restaurants.
Authentic and civilised Shanghaiese cuisine. Flavors are not too overpowering, mild but impactful. Enjoyed it very much. So many celebrities came to this place and they are not shy about it.
Taste-wise Its not bad but not impressive either. But I will come back to try other dishes. Amount of food for each dish is large, so be mindful of how much you order.
Shanghlander is located in Arcadia. Its very nicely decorated. This place has private room for party, or company gathering.They serve authentic Shanghai dishes. I love all dishes. The service is courteous!

Food was good. Favorite dishes- sauteed green beans, pork belly, spare ribs (be careful of the bone shards). Service was spotty. Traditional plate service, one dish at a time. We ordered sautéed fish with peppercorns. It took an hour and a half to be delivered to the table after we asked about it twice. People who were seated after us received their food, including the whole steamed fish, and finished eating before we received our last dish. The manager told us it was because it was Christmas. He then took the charge for the dish off our bill.

Avoid the big banquet table party time when you get in seat, we had wait 40 minutes to get first dish on the table, because the kitchen was busy in big banquet, we did complaint to the manager it looks like she could not do nothing, we were starving and wait, one friend suggested that we should change to another restaurant instead but the waiter and lady manager kept on mention your order will be ready soon. the worst was they even forgot our last dish until we remained the waiter. The food was delicious but the timing.... When we checked out non of service people showed apologies about the delay, it sounded you had bad timing, you deserved.
Those famous dishes still remain tasteful, however the portions are smaller (inflation?!).Worth to go back.

A great apot for Shanghai cuisine. Its been over 5 years since Ive been back, but this place really helped bring the taste of home to the States. Especially recommend the sweet ribs and the salted pork fried rice. Just so delicious and authentic.

The servers are so lazy, they cant be bothered to place your dish at the center of the table, only at the edge. The dishes are overpriced and poorly flavored. Their rice is toughly cooked. What kind of Chinese restaurant doesnt know how to cook rice properly? The waitstaff chats with each other loudly standing right next to your table. 👎👎👎
Very authentic shanghai flavor
Shanghai Restaurany is fancy on the atmosphere. Very nice interior decor and modern looking. We like their xiaolongbao. the ham in aspic appetizer was also very good. Being pampered buy Vietnamese fresh shrimp restaurants in LA, we were disappointed with the size of the shrimps in the shrimp stir fry. All in all though, felt that the taste of the dishes were average...

I came here recently with my family and we all really enjoyed it!Backstory is that my mom works at another Shanghainese restaurant in the area and a lot of her customers told her that they also frequent this place so we decided to give it a try. Were a Cantonese family and typically frequent the same HK cafes and Cantonese Chinese restaurants in the area for dinner. Dinner is always reliably good, but it gets a little old after awhile.Im really glad we came for dinner. We got the braised pork belly, Shanghai-style spare ribs, snow pea leaves, wined chicken, and pan fried buns. If youre a fan of pork belly... oh boy was the braised pork belly good. It easily made my dinner & I couldve eaten the whole pot myself. Unfortunately, there were other people at dinner too so I had to stop at 4 pieces. Snow pea leaves were good. We also enjoyed the spare ribs, though I think my dad makes it better at home. Wined chicken tasted a little too much like alcohol for my liking (but cmon, its WINED chicken). Pan fired buns were mediocre -- would not order again.Service was a little slow at times and the restaurant is a little crammed, but I would 100% come back again.
Shanghainese here. This restaurant is a gem. Most authentic, tasty, and cheap shanghainese food in the 626.Highly recommend the 桂花米酒汤圆 (sweet osmanthus rice balls dessert)
Ordered couple dishes here and all of them are very tasty: tradition Shanghai bamboo shot/salty port soup, soup dumplings, fried pork bun, braised pork, chestnut chicken, and couple desserts. Definitely recommend.
Wow, this place is surprisingly good. For a while Ive been very skeptical about trying this place thinking that this is just another Chinese place. Plus I read the review on Yelp regarding the bad service . However, Im glad I still gave it a chance. We come a bit early before the rush hour on monday dinner so maybe thats why we got decent service (at least for a Chinese restaurant standard ) . Food is a bit more expensive than what Im used to, but Ive seen worse place . But at least they give you a decently sized portion for what you are paying.The item we ordered are :1. Seaweed deep fried fish : my shanghainese friend introduced me to this dish on other place but this one is the best Ive had so far. You dont smell the seaweed / fish that sometimes comes with this dish. It doesnt feel as oily too.2. Shanghai chicken / cold white chicken : Im not sure why we ordered this dish as Im not a big fan of cold dishes, yet I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. The chicken itself is pretty bland but it comes with the sou sauce with a hint of some Chinese herb, which h give it a nice flavor. The Chicken itself has good texture that its not too soft / too chewy .3. Seafood tofu pot : I picked this one because this was one of the cheaper item they have, and my mom loves seafood tofu hot pot, which again is surprisingly good . And it comes with sea cucumber, even though only a little bit of it, for the price we are paying we do not expect to get anything special .Final verdict : Im glad I find another Chinese restaurant around Arcadia area that is pretty good and doesnt cost you and arm and leg for it.As we were leaving, the place was pretty packed and I can feel that the service is starting to lack. However, if I visit these place a few more times and Im getting the same service and quality Im getting today, Im revising this review into 5 star.Also, plenty of parking spot, so thats a plus .******Update as of June 28****Well, I am downgrading this place to 3 star, which is3.5 star for food2.5 star for service. I was wrong about the parking spot . It seems like its alot of space, but I have to park on the street coming on Thursday night . The restaurant is about 60% full.I come in and stand around for about 5 minute before anyone helping us getting our seat. That includes one Chinese lady who cut in line and spoke directly with waiter in Chinese (I dont speak Chinese ) which turn out because she have reservation with the place .Food wise :1 seafood hot pot. Still ok2. Seaweed fish : not that great since its not as crispy even though it just come out from the kitchen3. Sweet sour pork sparerib . Pretty ok, but it has alot of piece of inedible soft bone, or cartilage or whatever those thing called.The food quality overall is still good while definitely not as good as the first time I was here .Service :Well this place is a slightly better than other big Chinese restaurant that doesnt speak English. If you dont speak Chinese at all, i really suggest you bring someone who does if you come here, or you better have some good experience with rude Chinese restaurant. The server in this place are not rude (at least not all ) and theyre actually pretty attentive, they actually refill my water cup without being asked . Unfortunately however, I had to ask for that water 20 minutes into waiting for our food, because nobody offer us the drink.

Going in, I was somewhat jaded. There are so many new Chinese places popping up around Arcadia; Shanghailander Palace recently took over a Cocos diner location which was one of my familys favorites. I was certain this would be another of these EB-5 immigrant mills traps serving so-so food which would fold and close up in a year or two once the owners got their green card. --- so BOY was a surprised! The food is legit and high quality, not like some of the new EB-5 emporiums on Las Tunas.We ordered: Shanghai-style small pork ribs (crispy and tangy, not at all saccharine and gooey); seafood and tofu pot (filled with chunks of fish and seacucumber, a bargain for $10.99); soup dumplings xiaolongbao which, according to my picky daughter, were excellent; and seaweed fried fish (which was not greasy at all and had a strong earthy taste of seaweed).A little more expensive than other Shanghai eateries in the area (like Shanghai Gourmet or Changs Garden) but definitely worth it. I guess we still miss Cocos but this place seems a worthwhile replacement.
The restaurant is a disappointment. The dishes are all right, not superb, yet pricy. The space is crowded. Customers need to squeeze their way through.
Terrible service, was ignored many times while trying to get help from a waiter. Took over 20 mins with my hands raised up to get their attention. Food was mediocre at best. Will not be coming back after this experience.

Ive eaten at the Rowland Heights restaurant before, and its quite authentic Shanghainese food, albeit slightly improved. The first time I came to the Arcadia store, it was indeed very popular and the hall was packed. The private room environment is good, and the overall taste of the dishes is good. The crispy fish is freshly fried and has an excellent taste. The oil eel paste is good, with a rich base of black pepper, and the eel shreds also taste good. It is a pity that live eels cannot be purchased in the United States, but the selection of ingredients for this dish is still good, even though it is chilled eel. Fish shreds. The old goose soup is quite rich. The goose meat is soft and tender in the mouth. It can be seen that the soup base has been cooked for a long time and has a richer flavor than the pickled and fresh soup.
I ate their anchovies on the beach at Arcadia yesterday at noon, and the taste is commendable. Sweet Shanghai taste, with fermented rice in it, half fish with head and tail. The lobster noodles are great. The braised pork is as good as ever.

The environment is good, with a bit of Shanghai beach flavor. The white-cut chicken and braised pork are good, and the service attitude is good, but not professional enough. The soup tastes good, but the lion head has no taste, the price is on the high side, there is still a gap compared to the same kind of Shanghai cuisine - Shanghai No. 1, and the expectations are a little lower

I made a self-pick-up order on the rice ball three days in advance, and I called to ask if I could add more food on the same day, only to find out that they didnt treat you as a customer, but treated you as an idiot. The order was not accepted at all. What a nice restaurant!
I had diarrhea the next day after eating. One of my friends felt very uncomfortable and the other one went to the hospital. Especially the braised turtle was so unpalatable. . . The food is served slowly and the service attitude depends on the person. Some employees are very nice and some have to look at their faces. Generally speaking, I don’t recommend it.

2023-12-01 19:45:36Food was not too bad. The pan fried buns are coated in sesame seeds on the bottom which adds to the crunch however the inside is very dry. Other dishes were okay. Took off a star for atmosphere as an employee was smoking near an open door.

It draws the sourness from pickled prunes, deeply fried so the whole fish including bones is edible, and finishes with a glaze of sweet and sour sauce. Yum! Best Shanghai restaurant in LA! The weekday lunch specials are of great value! We ordered a couple of appetizers afraid the $14 lunch meal won’t fill us, but we were surprised!

2023-01-30 00:14:19Our experience here was a bit out of the ordinary and perhaps elevated above what a typical diner would enjoy, as it was a private party in a separate room, with a pre-set banquet menu. Presentation and plating were top notch and fitting of a fine dining establishment. It felt like classic Chinese cuisine reinterpreted with a more modern aesthetic. I wasnt blown away by the flavors, and perhaps that was simply because the dishes were not ones we would typically order and were catered towards the palate of a more senior generation.My favorite dishes were the poached chicken, Beijing duck, vegetable rice, and lobster. I typically love whole steamed fish but I found this particular variety to have far too many tiny needle like bones which were hard to pick out and avoid chewing.

Then after sitting down, it took another person to swing by and take our order, followed by 30 minutes to bring one dish out, and the other was forgotten. So we had to wait another 20 for the second one. Longest lunch of my life!People were beautiful, well-dressed, they were nice. But that was ridiculously slow.The food was decent, but not worth the price or the wait. Granted, the prices arent that much different from most other Shanghai restaurants. At least this one we got a seat though.

This place is authentic.Though everything is on the sweet side, the ingredients incorporated into the dishes are what you will generally find in Shanghai.The seating is comfortable and the servers are all Shanghainese. This is probably as good as you can get in LA for Shanghainese food but it just wont be the same as if you were local there.

Surprisingly, the table and chairs were very comfortable and fits more than 14 each.The atmosphere here is very family oriented and bright. Very nice layout and decorations.The food was very delicious. The plating of each dish is inviting. One just cannot said no to the dishes. I took pictures of a few before they were eaten, but sadly. We just cannot wait to dig in.The service is very good, fast and very polite.Will definitely be hosting more dinner parties here in the future.

But honestly as a Shanghainese, only shrimps, jelly fish, white bamboo were good. I won’t blame the Crab Tofu cause it’s hard to find the same material. But the meatball was so tough, too much starch, with an egg yolk inside they tasted really weird. Shanghai choy rice with ham was food court level, I can do much better than them. I paid $150 for these, no worth the money. Won’t go there anymore…
