When we walked in, we were skeptical because the smell of the area is awful. It’s very distracting. We then went to order and it was a little overwhelming, but Kevin was so kind and walked us through the menu. We ordered and the food came out, and the taste was top quality. The flavors were amazing! We’ll definitely be coming back, but hopefully the smell is better by then..

Not sure what happened to this place. Used to have pretty awesome ramen. I did goto Japan for a few months so either my taste buds evolved or this place went a bit downhill.The broth tastes like salt water. The meat is not good. Noodles were ok. Overall its just not how I remembered it to be.

Great Ramen, with many choices to customize! Even as specific as firmness of noodles. Love the fried oysters as well. They forgot our second fried oyster last time but just a minor mistake. It is a bit small so there is a wait at times and you can’t always check in on yelp if they shut check-ins off. I really wish they would bring back the black sesame ice cream!

I had early dinner on a Saturday night so the place wasn’t too crowded. Fast and attentive service by the staff! I like that you can customize your ramen bowl by selecting different ingredients and flavors on a paper. I had regular ramen and salmon bowls. Soup stock was great as expected but toppings were limited to pork slices. Additional toppings were available for few dollars more. I removed one star for limited toppings.

Great place, great food! Line is usually long, but it goes pretty quick since its a ramen shop. I would recommend checking in with Yelp prior to your visit. That way you can kinda skip the line. Also, parking can be super tricky. So do carpool if youre with a bigger party! Wait is usually 20-45 minutes depending on the party, the day of the week and the line. But I think its worth the wait! Usually the boba shop next door offers free drinks anyways ;)

I always prefer Shin Sen Gumi (Rosemead store) over Daikokuya. Their broth, noodles and service are always excellent. The noodle firmness is on point. The soft flavored egg is a must order item. I strongly recommend you join the wait list before you head over. Its ALWAYS a line waiting line.

Food, fantastic. Service almost always 10/10. Since the lock downs I can only assume they changed owners. Food has definitely changed slightly, they have removed the RGB bomb as well as a few smaller items from the menu 😓. They used to cover the walls with events and specials, even had a beautiful chalk mural on the chalk board all while blasting anime music. This was peak Shin-sen-gumi! Since the lock downs they erased the chalk mural, ditched the classic dive look, and I have not heard anime music once. Food and service will bring me back again and again, but the atmosphere I have come to know and love has gone way down hill over the past few years.

We came in with low expectations and didnt know this place would taste so good! Their ramen here is truly Japanese ramen style. They cook it so simple but yet so sophisticated the broth and noodle tasted amazing. Its better than some places in Japan and that is my honest opinion. If I was working near by, I would come here for lunch quite often. I ordered their normal Tonkutsu but selected the broth to be intense in flavor. It was a bit more salty but I didnt mind. Its great they gave the option to choose how strong you want the broth to be. The only thing I wouldnt recommend here is their gyoza. It didnt taste that great and very mediocre. The staff were very polite and attentive. I definitely would come back here again and again. Please dont closed down.

A small ramen place that opens till 11pm. The house ramen is great and it’s less than 11 dollars if you get the basic one without additional toppings. That’s what I ordered as I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes before closing. Service was very fast. The ramen soup was very tasty. The noodle had a great texture and was enjoyably elastic. The waiters were very friendly. It was a great late night light meal. Highly recommended.

Every time I come to LA with family, we always seem to go to this ramen place to eat at least once. We love being able to specify the softness/hardness of the noodles and the oiliness/saltiness level, and have control over what ingredients (green onion, ginger, egg, corn, etc) go into the ramen - even how the egg is cooked! The lunch special is a really good deal since you can get a big bowl of ramen + a decent portion of some side, like a rice salmon sashimi bowl. The pork chashu could have been softer in my opinion, but the soup smelled and tasted quite good, and we were all very full after all the food was served.

Its s place to Get decent noodles however I was misinformed and got miso broth which I did not care for but that just might be a matter of taste.. You pay by additional ingredients into your soup. This place appears to be very popular as you have to electronically sign in on the waitlist outside. On this particular day it was half full which made for faster service. Overall, it was decent but I will get a different broth the next time.

This restaurant has multiple locations all over Los Angeles. This location never lets me down. Though, during the weekend there is always a long wait that is well worth it. The prices here are affordable. Aside from the amazing ramen served here, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They are always on it and provide superb service. I highly suggest dinning here. I had a chance to taste Ichiran ramen in Tokyo a couple of years ago, to me, that was the best ramen that I have ever tasted. (FYI, Ichiran has recently opened a couple of places in NY). Back here in CA, I was in search for a similar ramen taste and I found Shin-Sen-Gumi. Although it wasnt exactly the same taste, its close enough. Lol. I like its soup, very tasty and creamy, texture of the noodles is excellent, not too soft nor too firm. I chose lunch combos which came with ramen and gyōza. It was perfect to fill me up. Another thing I like about this restaurant is theyre not looked or sounded fancy, just simple menu with good food, good service and good price.They have multiple locations from LA, to San Gabriel Valley and OC. Give them a try and you wont be regret.

I decided to try this place out with a friend. Having tried ramen in Japan before I had some high expectations with the positive reviews. I was quite disappointed with the flavor of the broth and also the complex selection of choosing of noodle your noodle would be cooked and thickness and quality of the broth. You can add an egg for $1.50. It would be better if the egg just came with the ramen for presentation purposes.I definitely probably wont go back here again.

The ability of customizing your own ramen is very rare. You can custom the softness of the of your noodles the saltiness of your soup and many other options. The most important part of ramen is to have a good broth and the right type of noodle not the cheap one. The service is incredible and the people are friendly. They say welcome when you come in and thank you for when you leave. In todays society money is hard earned get the price at this place is very reasonable. The noodles and broth were outstanding. I loved all the individual sides. Each bite could be different! We added in an egg and some dumplings. Everything was so tasty!We also split the appetizer octopus. It was excellently seasoned and crispy. Very tasty!!I would highly recommend this place. Lively and fun with great food.

The food here was amazing! There are a lot of options on the menu and the options were pretty affordable. I went during lunch time so there were also lunch special to choose from. The food came out quick and at a good temperature. The ramen wasnt too salty and had great flavor. The ramen also came with a choice of a side protein and rice. It was a nice addition to the email. The reason Im taking off a star is because of the parking situation during peak hours. There is a relatively big parking lot but it is really packed during lunch hour. You have wander the parking lot like a shark or wait at one aisle for around 15-30 minutes before a spot opens up. The drivers could also get pretty aggressive in trying to take your spot even if you are signaling for it so be careful.

Tucked away in a strip mall this Ramen joint is an excellent hidden gem. I ticked all the regular options for my bowl and added an egg and beanprouts. Very satisfying on a hot day after work. The service is very fast paced which can make your eating experience feel a little rushed, but they will make it a point to keep the noodles flowing and your cups full. This place never fails when it comes to Ramen! I always come here for the Overload Ramen, firm noodles, normal oil, and strong broth! And of course I cannot forget those ginger!!! Wished I took some pictures but its just hard to with COVID and all. One thing that kinda worries me is that the space in between each table is very minimum... and it was packed here. I would probably order togo next time even though its not gonna be the same. Still, they are getting a 5 star just because Ive been eating from here for over a decade!

Great Service, thank you! But I was really disappointed coming back to ShinSen after a few years of not having it. I remember it being super tasty and satisfying. I used to go to the Little Tokyo location, and had did come to this locations once in the past with no complaints. This time around, it was a letdown . The broth had no depth of flavor, and honestly tasted stale. Thanks to the FOH staff for great customer service, but I would have rather much enjoyed making my instant Ramyen at home for 1 dollar.

Hakata Ramen is Amazing! I dont know if its because I love ramen more than the average person, but Im so glad I found this place after searching so many different places. The many different topping possibilities and quick, but hospitable, service makes this a 5-star Ramen shop. The wait would be long for someone who doesnt have patience, but their queue system is practically flawless with multiple text notifications, including a 5 min warning, to reassure you.You just have to experience it yourself... Holy cow! First I must say, if youre in a hurry and you are really craving ramen, this is your place. We were literally in and out within 30 minutes. We only had to wait a few minutes to sit at the counter, ordered our food a little after, and not even 10 minutes got our entire order. Albeit, we only got ramen and a few toppings, but we devoured the entire thing within minutes after getting it. The ramen is great and being able to customize it to your liking with toppings makes it even better. I liked to GGC bomb to give it that heat while adding some garlic to the broth. Im not sure if its specifically this location, but I finished my bowl feeling like I needed more noodles which I did end up getting. It made me wonder if they skimp on the noodles just so you order more or I was just super hungry. Either way, its a great ramen place, that Id go to every so often.

I like coming here for just plain ramen with a little bit of sides! I normally get the regular ramen with bamboo and flavored egg (I believe each side was $2 each). The wait is generally long (half hr to an hr) on really busy days, weekends and dinner rush, but on some occasions, the wait is less than 15 min! This place is good to catch up with friends and eat some good ramen.

This restaurant gives the customer control over what goes in the ramen. You can control the oil level, salt level, and noodle hardness using their ordering form and check boxes. Moreover, you can ask for extra green onions, and toasted sesames are in a shaker at the table.My only gripe is that the wait here is about 30-60 minutes during dinner or lunch. Also, a soft boiled egg is extra, and if you order the standard ramen it comes with only a few slices of thin pork charsiu – pretty bare bones businessman style lunch for about $10. Vegetables cost extra, woe is me.

We were in the area so we decided to try this place.Parking was easy as there is a HUGE parking lot.Service was friendly but they DID forget our appetizer and still charged us for it. You can order a little something with your Ramen like musibi or rice bowls. This ends up being way too much food but if you want to get your grub on...why not!I went with the Charsu bowl, it was really good.Shin Sen also has a sort of tick the marks on the paper style ordering system.I went with Firm noodles, normal broth, extra chasu, crispy onions. The Ramen was on point, some of the best Ramen in LA.The Kimchi is really traditional (very Fishy) because of the squid they add. I LOVE Kimchi but I cannot eat the Kimchi at Shin Sen. Expect a long wait, especially at night or during lunch time. But the wait is worth it in my opinion. They give you the option of a regular size bowl or a 1/2 bowl, which I usually get. They serve more than just ramen and you can add a lot of toppings to your bowl. This ramen shop serves hakata ramen so the broth is stewed in pork bones to give it that pork flavor, pretty similar to Kopan Ramen but this is by far my favorite ramen shop to go.

I come here a lot... This is a tiny restaurant that serves some pretty good ramen usually theres a wait even right before they close which is never too long...the ramen is really good you can choose various levels of salty oily richness and add on extra toppings. Each additional topping is like $2 to $3.50. Most of the appetizers are really good too. The employees are pretty respectful and quick with their service.Generally I have no problems with this restaurant, but one time the manager was there to take our orders and he was just plain rude... Theres a box where you can choose regular ramen or something else (i cant quite remember)... we usually dont mark it because we never noticed it but I happen to notice this time so I wrote RR down as regular ramen. The manager picks up the paper and in a condescending tone said next time you dont have to write RR on it...its automatically RR ...ugh it DOESNT MATTER! He knew exactly what I wanted just take the paper and put in my order... so what if I write an extra 2 letters ...He does a good job of disciplining of his new employee but I feel like he should of pulled him off to the side and told him instead of showing a sigh of annoyance that your employee made a mistake (he forgot to put ice in the soda) and correcting him right then and there. He was very apologetic to the customer and fixed it before the customer said anything about not having ice. But I think he was a little harsh on the employee. He also criticized him for not responding in Japanese when the hostess yells it a phrase when he brings in the customers to be seatedNot a very large restaurant ... It can get really busy here on the weekends so plan accordingly if you dont want to wait too long. The restaurant itself isnt huge but it is bigger than you think and with the bar seating theyre able to manage to fit a good amount of customers inside. Theres usually a sign in sheet outside on a clipboard so you write your name and party down and then the waiting game begins.You get to customize how firm you want your noodles, how much soup oil you want and also how much soup base. I prefer my noodles to be more on the firm side so it makes it more chewy. I havent really figured out the nuances of the soup oil and base so who knows, maybe some other yelpers have figured it out in their posts.There are lunch combos on the weekends too so youre able to get an extra dish to go along with your ramen which is a nice touch. I opted for the beef rice bow and I probably only ate a few bites of it since I was so full already. Theres definitely a lot of food. My friend that goes once every week said its a considerably cheaper at lunch than it is at dinner.The green chili paste and the spicy miso are a great addition to your ramen that adds a great kick to it.Service is great, the team here is constantly checking up on you and making sure you have everything you need.

I typically go to the Shin Sen Gumi in Gardena, but started visiting this one as it is closer to my boyfriends place (South Pasadena). There is usually a short wait, but they get you seated pretty quickly. The food has never disappointed us and the servers are very kind. Came around 8PM on a Saturday, and there was barely a line. It took maybe 20 minutes until we were seated. Since we werent that hungry, we ordered the half portions - they werent kidding when they say half portions, because its barely any food. Its about 2 bite of noodles and 1-2 pieces of pork. It doesnt have much of a bite to it (that chewy texture one would expect from a bowl of ramen), and doesnt really pair up well with the heavy tonkotsu broth.BrothHad some flavor, but a bit muted. However, given the lack of flavor, it was still pretty salty.ToppingsBarely any toppings to go with the ramen, only comes with pork and green onions. This is the standard in which I judge other ramen places. There is almost always a wait to get in so be prepared but once you are eating I doubt youll even care. The Rosemead location is small, which definitely adds to the wait time, but it packs a mighty punch. It might be a little intimidating at first - you customize your noodles, broth, oil, and any additional items you want with your ramen. A little experimentation wont hurt, its all delicious. Get the spicy miso with your order. Others have noted that the gyoza is good and I cant disagree. Most places drown their gyoza in oil and practically deep fry them within an inch of their life. Honestly speaking, this one is way much better than the other ones, such as the one in Little Tokyo. Here are some points as to why I heavily, again, HEAVILY prefer this one.1. ( Not confirmed)There is this amazing piece of appetizer called Cheese Egg roll. Now, my memories may not serve right, but the last time I was at the LT Shin Sen Gumi, it was around $4.00 for 3 of them. Here, $3.75 for 6. So here I am wondering if there are other ones that the one in downtown charges more, just because tourists are willing to pay anything pretty much.4. No shouting!As much as I love the brand, I wasnt the biggest fan of those muscular guys who shout on top of their lungs right next to you every time a customer comes and goes. I walked in today after a rather short wait, there wasnt a menu at the counter where I sat so I asked for one, and then I was ignored for 45 minutes. Had to leave because I would have been late for work.Moral is: speak up if you need something.
