Food was good, waitress was hardly there. She brought my food and didnt come back for at least 15 - 20 minutes. But overall good eats, I ordered the 2 item combo which comes with soup and salad. Miso soup was tasteless salad would of been great if it wasnt for the over spiced salad dressing. My Chicken katsu and tempura was great. Good amount of food and cooked to perfection.

Great priced sushi. Amazing quality no fishy smells tastes like butter great cuts perfect amount of lean meat. No sauce or Wasabi needed for sushi. Freshest tasting salmon I have had in the area!

Went for dinner and the food was amazing. Everything tasted fresh with good presentation and flavor. Staff is polite and fast and a nice atmosphere to dine in. The rainbow ice cream is a must try for dessert! A little expensive but definitely worth it for the size and portions. Had no wait time on a Tuesday night

The food was okay. The service was okay. The light fixtures and all horizontal surfaces were very very dusty. Every time someone opened the kitchen door dust rained down on our table. Unfortunately we wont be returning just too grossed out. Oh and we made friends with a dead fly.Not sure why one of our wontons was not toasted but the other three were. The food was okay my husband was just very grossed out that every time the kitchen door opened and closed the dust would rain down from the light fixture onto our food or into our drinks.

I love the food. Service is great. Reasonable prices. The restaurant needs overall clean up. Bathrooms are not clean. The carpet is 100 years old. I should have looked at the bathroom before I ate. I am going to suggest to the manager to get this place cleaned up. I will not recommend to my family and friends. They would not eat here if they saw the condition.

Food was tasty and priced with inflation prices. The service was excellent. Hostesses could be a bit more friendly. The sushi chefs were friendly and fun. There is no conveyer belt for the food to move around. Cool feature if they had it but not a deal breaker.

Very clean, staff was very friendly. You share the table if there are 4 or less with other people, which is fine. Everyone at our table was nice. We loved watching our food being cooked in front of us and the chef cooking and giving us a show, too.The food was very good. Just dont order appetizers because by the time you eat your cooked food, you will be full.

Sushi is always a great idea! My first time visiting this elegant little place in San Dimas. From the moment we arrived, nothing but a great experience. From the outside, you cant really tell how nice it is. We visited for lunch; however, I decided to order outside the lunch menu. I could not be more pleased. I ordered the 1/2 roll trio. I selected the Crunch Dragon roll, Salsa Ceviche roll, and the BSC roll. All three were exquisite. Soooo much flavor in every bite. I decided to try the Butter Cake for dessert. Another winner. The service was great. Thanks, Nathaniel. Youre the best! I will definitely recommend this place to everyone.

My family absolutely loves this place. My wife made reservations and we were seated close to our reservation time. We didn’t wait much on a Friday night at 5pm. The food was absolutely perfect. It’s what you expect from a hibachi place. It is a bit pricey, so be prepared to spend some money. The staff is friendly and attentive. The chefs working there are some of the hardest working chefs. Make sure to take care of those guys too.They are not doing the “fire shows”. I don’t know if it’s because of COVID. But they are interactive with the guest.

Cooks are good. I always enjoy my food. Waiters inside are decent. Kids at the front desk are horrible! I’ve had 3 of the worst experiences dealing with their front desk staff. They act like high school kids just ‘chilling’. Front desk is more concerned with their cell phones then providing the proper adequate service. Called in an order showed up before it was ready. Paid for order & was told to wait at the tall tables till food was ready. Waited a few good minutes before asking if my food was ready. Ooo yea it’s right here on the counter.If you are able to survive past the front desk you just might enjoy your food. That front desk though is an absolute joke!August 5th 2023 update. I’d like to order more food from this place but again that front desk is pathetic! I’ll just cook for myself.

My family come here often and as of the the last year or so the service and food quality is really not the same! The service has been terrible, with 1 waitress waiting on 5-6 tables. I went today with my kids and after 10-15 mins I had to go ask if someone could help us. The food quality is sub par! It’s disappointing because we really did love this place!

Ive been to Benihana and other tepanyaki restaurants previously. This was my first time at Shogun and I really enjoyed our dinner celebration with my family there. We went with kids and the staff were all very friendly and they gave superb customer service. The chef who cooked in front of us was entertaining and fun. We all ordered different dishes but I would highly recommend their lobster and ribeye steak. I ordered calamari as an add on and it was also delicious. They did not over salt or over cook the food. We didnt have to wait very long to eat so I would highly recommend Shogun for future reservations especially for a large party. Its difficult to find a place to eat good food that can accommodate large parties. We had 9 people in total.

Shogun Restaurant is always the place to go for teppanyaki. The food is absolutely excellent. The service is good, the drinks are good, and the show is great as well. tonight we had Billy, and he was just great. Funny as well as clearly talented in the teppanyaki style of cooking. I always suggest the shrimp and ribeye, cuz thats just the best surf and turf I know. Absolutely recommended!

Went by there tonight little after eight. Place packed as usual, I tried to get the attention of someone to place a to go order. As soon as Alex heard it was a to go order I now had his attention. He proceeded to tell me that I was last call for to go orders. I asked for a menu. He then told me again two more times that I was last call.I pointed this out and asked did he want to take my order or not.Owner Manager think about this. I spent 25.00 dollars. Now think of how many others are turned away. Now multiply that by how many days Alex works.Your hours serve till nine. So now figure maybe two loyal customers turned away each day he works!

Short wait to be seated. About 20 minutes wait to take our order after being seated. Ordered a Coke with no ice (see photo of all the ice). We also ordered a tea and the waiter insisted on trying to refill with water even after being told it was tea. Food was ok. Cooking show was subpar. Cook dropped a bunch of mushrooms on the floor. Waiter was waiting on multiple tables and was not very efficient. First time visiting Shogun. Not impressed.

I have 1st dined at this location around 2010ish prior to my retirement in 2015. My coworkers and I would go there for lunch periodically and celebrate birthdays. Since I had a very special birthday after my retirement, I decided to invite a group of 15 to celebrate my birthday at the newly renovated Shogun to experience the reported upgrades myself. Wow am I glad I did that!The service was fantastic! It reminded me of the restaurants that I dined at in Sasebo Japan; and, on a par with those restaurants in Sasebo, Japan. The service was outstanding. We were seated within five minutes of our reservation, and we were greeted and served by our two hostess who took care of all of my guests and their needs.I ordered the House special which includes filet mignon, colossal shrimp and fried rice. Miso soup and salad were fantastic. I would highly recommend this establishment for their service and their fine food. It was great! Enjoy!

We love picking up our father and going to eat at the Shogun Restaurant in La Verne. He always gets a kick out of watching them cook the delicious food. The shrimp, filet mignon, fried rice are my personal favorites. The cooks make everyone feel welcome and we all have a good time. Recommend this place for dates, family and friend gatherings.

However, attempting to try this place via takeout was a real an inconvenience.Really wish I can give a review based of their food, but this one star is earned due to the difficulty of getting their food via take out!I had called in several times over a span of 1hr to place an order, and no one picks up the phone!I then drive to the place, and attemp to place a take out order at the restaurant. I am told the wait for food is 1hr... Not a pleasant experience. Really need to focus on their takeout services.

We visited on a Thursday evening. We had about a 30 min wait for our group of 9. Also because of COVID restrictions we had to be seated at two separate tables, but they were close to each other so it was fine. Our sever was very nice and attentive throughout our meal. She made sure to check on us often for drink refills and clear empty plates. I ordered the Yakisoba noodle dish with Chicken. It came with a side of stir fried veggies and fried rice. Everything was delicious.

I came today after work to have dinner with my bf in the bar area again and felt like the bar tenders definitely lack service at the table top bar areas . It’s understandable that it gets a little busier around the evening but it shouldn’t take 15-30 for a bar tender to check up on his tables . We were celebrating my moms birthday and made reservations for a large party of 23 people (originally) over the phone. They asked for a deposit to hold the reservation, to be paid in person before the event, which was understandable. Upon paying, we updated the number of people to 26 and they were absolutely fine with it.The day of the event, our whole party was NOT on time so we couldnt be seated. They were EXTREMELY accommodating, considering the arrival time of our last guests being an hour AFTER the specified time. We were directed to a waiting area (the bar) which was fine by me! There were tables where everyone chatted and ordered drinks while we waited.We were finally seated when everyone arrived and everyone was super nice even though we were all over the place and unorganized. They were very professional and took all of our orders and the chef cooked our meals right there for our entertainment. It was cool and everyone loved it!The only minor complaint was a misunderstanding as to how the bill would be paid so my brother ended up with the entire bill🤦🏻‍♀️. We straightened things out, and the concluded our memorable night.Other places I had previously tried to make reservations at, had so many rules and restrictions like no outside cake could be brought in so you could only buy cake off of their menu! Ridiculous! Shogun welcomed us celebrating our mom and kept our cake in their fridge until we were ready.I totally recommend them and will be returning again soon ! Thank you!

My heart is aching as Im writing this because of the burn incident that my son was exposed to at this restaurant! We had a very devastating experience on Sunday April16th, 2023 at this restaurant! One of the employees dropped a tray of hot soup on my son! At least 3 or 4 bowls dropped on him on all his left side. The soup was for the table next to us! Tables are too tight to each other! No enough space in between! Instant redness and rash showed on the affected area! None of the employees offered first aid help to him! I jumped from my seat to help him with my dry cloth napkin, so his shirt wontstick to his skin! Then, dad took him to the restroom to check on him. After a while, only another waitress and a manager named Eric came to see if everything is alright! To our shock, none of the staff are trained or ready in case of such incidents of burn since no one offered any kind of help! We packed our food which we couldnt eat since this happened, paid our bill and left with a complete dissatisfaction! It was a nightmare to my family! My husband called today and asked to talk to the owner but was informed by Eric the manager that he cannot give us a phone number to contact or complain. He only gave him an email to write a complaint. Well never go back there! The waitress who dropped the hot soup on my son was spotted still serving other tables! We heard that shes new there! It shows that they hire people without offering training which can cause a disaster! The service was bad too! We ordere some appetizers first, and they came at a different time! Our spicy edamame came so late! Table was untidy and sticky! We asked for soy sauce, it came after my kids finished their appetizer! The plate where they put the sauce in was untidy too! You always feel rushed in that place! The cook also splashed an egg towards my sons plate and side of the table and the floor! A complete dissatisfaction for sure of this restaurant!

I love this place its one of my favorites! Its better than any other similar places including Benihanas. The food tastes amazing, the portions are good, everything is just yummy. The dimmed lights make the atmosphere relaxed and intimate even though youre sitting with other random people.

I have been going to the Shogun in Pasadena for over 25 years. This was my first visit to the Laverne location in March 2023. Our server, Vi, was excellent. She was attentive and intuitive. Although I read that this location was recently updated, it did not appear to be the case. It looked a little worn. As with my last few visits to the Pasadena location, almost everything was overcooked. I ordered the Chicken and Shrimp with fried rice. The shrimp was the least dry item on the plate. It seems Shogun may want to retrain their cooks to maybe not cut the chicken and/or steak pieces so small. It may help with the meat not getting so dry. I even asked for my chicken to be taken off the grill and the cook cut it up a little smaller, added sesame seeds and left it on for another minute.

Although the meal should be an experience, overall I was not impressed. We were handed our menus and immediately asked for our drink order. I hadn’t even opened the menu. I ordered a light Sapporo because it was someone knew they’d have. Next the waitress asked for our appetizer order. I informed her I needed to look at menu. A few other guests at table ordered sushi rolls. Waitress said she’d come back and check to see if I decided on an appetizer. She never did. After drinks were served, we placed our dinner order. My husband ordered NY Steak and scallops. I ordered filet mignon and scallops. Others at table placed their orders. Our cook came to the table and started the set routine. He did a good job with the ‘show’. When he began cooking the proteins there were 2 chicken pieces, 4 NY steaks and 1 filet mignon. As the chef began serving us, he gave me NY steak. I said I had ordered the filet mignon (which he served another guest) and said all of the beef portions were the same. That they were all filets. If a chef doesn’t know the difference between two cuts of meat then he needs more training. Needless to same I was disappointed and dissatisfied.

We had visited a nearby yarn store with friends and Shogun was in the same parking lot. There were 4 of us and it was right before the main dinner rush, around 3:30pm on a Saturday. The 4 of us were seated in the dining area on the other side of the hibachi, we were alone for most of the time. Our server was wonderful and friendly. One of our group members had a specific dietary restriction and they were able to find dishes and order without any fuss. There were TV screens in the corners and a socket at the table with 2 USB slots. Every so often there would be a tambourine, but, as we were in a large secluded section, it was unclear what it was for. The prices were extremely reasonable and the food was tasty. Would definitely go back.

My absolute favorite teppan place.Why? Because its simply GOOD. So good. Its a great place for families, a celebration, bringing a date - anything. The quality of the food is excellent. Sesame chicken with Yum Yum sauce is my favorite. Their salad dressing - ginger and garlic - is the best around. My only complaint these days is that they changed the base of their onion soup, which also used to be my favorite, and now its more like miso (which I dislike intensely). It can also be rather pricey, but you get a lot for your money.Get in their early because they fill up quickly. Great for lunch, too! I am so disappointed because this place used to be the place to go in La Verne. We made grill reservations for a group on Friday. About 15-20 minutes into our food the waiter was trying to kick us out! Taking away the plates? I wasn’t even done with my food 🥗 or beer? I spent over $300 for a dinner and I felt soooo rushed! That will be the last time I take someone I love to dinner there. I felt embarrassed with all the people I invited. It was my first time there and I was curious about them. It is a sit down restaurant very much like Benihana. They have a sushi bar, a regular style restaurant area and the Teppan style (Benihana) where you sit around the grill and the chef cooks everything in front of you. I liked it very much. First time here for my wife and I. We went for dinner but Teppan side extremely busy. We elected to be seated in a regular booth and ordered dinner. Short wait and we were served our miso soup and salad that came with our meals. Should have know when we tried the luke warm miso soup the rest of the night wouldnt be much better. After like 15 minutes my wife receives her meal shrimp tempura, although the shrimp was hot, the fried rice just barely warm. I waited another 10 minutes and asked the waiter 2 questions, (1) when will I be receiving my order of chicken teriyaki? (2) what happened to our order of edamame which never came. He apologized and said he would check on my meal, I told him to cancel the order of edamame. 5 minutes later he comes out with my meal. My rice was also just barely warm and immediately I noticed my chicken was a a little tough and was probably over cooked. When we were almost done a supervisor came over to apologize about the edamame and asked how everything else was. I told her about the chicken being tough. Her response was yes because its grilled sometimes the chef over cooks it and that sometimes happens I said to myself WOW. We of course dont plan on going back.

The food was excellent. Kinda pricey but worth it occasionally. Be mindful that they cube their steaks. Also, they are on the thin side, about half inch, so when you ask for medium well, the steak is cooked right through. However, the steak remained juicy. There are many choices for sushi, well worth exploring even if you havent had it before. Where do I start with my frustration. I came here with family for a birthday celebration. Was informed that it would be an hour wait which I had no problem with. After over an hour passed, an empty waiting room, and parties walking in and being seated within a few minutes, I had to say something. She later came with a manager I assume, as no formal intro was done. Manager came and told me the same thing the hostess did. I dont need someone tell me the same thing twice when I am frustrated. They can minimally acknowledge their shortcomings and that would have made the experience a bit more tolerable. I hate to say that they have lost a faithful customer who always introduced and encouraged everyone she knew to come....yeah that wont be happening anymore. So sad as the food was always appetizing and chefs are great, but front staff and sitting hierarchy ruin the experience.

The manager, I believe Jose, needs to teach his staff about no high chairs at the high top tables. He also needs to teach them about no booster seats for babies. He says that high chairs at high top tables are a safety hazard. He also needs to understand that giving booster seats to babies is also a safety hazard, as the baby can fall out. He is obviously a bad manager by the way he spoke to us and handled the whole situation including his staff. The only reason why I am giving one star is because of the food. The family and I come here once in a while for the great food and funny cooks. The cooks always have something fun for us to watch, like onion fire volcanoes or spatula music. The food is always of high quality and the service is ok.

The best meal. An awesome show. But go for lunch same amount for food with the exception of picking soup or salad but almost half the price. You will need a reservation if you go on Friday, Saturday or Sunday otherwise plan on a long wait.

The food is okay but the service is terrible. We’ve tried placing 3 different orders for takeout and each time they’ve been cancelled. At 5 pm she said they were too busy for the night so they had cancelled my to go order. Will not be investing my money here again.

The new management here at the La Verne location is horrible. A manager by the name of Monica is rude and very unprofessional. We spent over $300 that night between 2 families as we usually do 2-3 times a month and we were treated so disrespectfully by her. Our family and friends are regulars there and will no longer be coming to this location. The management prior to this was always so respectful and accommodating.

Came here for a family birthday/mothers day get together. As we waited and sat at the bar, Jesus the bartender spilled my beer not only on the counter but all over my pants. As I sat there soaked hoping it would dry in time, I was only compensated for the spilled beer. I found this to be very disrespectful. Not only did I now wreak of beer I now had to leave because of discomfort. Worst service and compensation i have ever had. If management is reading this please note of Jesuss lack of professionalism and considerstion.

This place is always good no matter what location you go to! I always like going before 3pm because of the amazing price reduction compared to the dinner price. I always do the hibachi grill for the filet and shrimp and sushi on the side. Great customer service as well which is a place to the great tasting food!

Dinner is $15+. They seat you with whoever arrives at the same time at U shaped tables where chef cooks your meal in front of you.Soup, salad, shrimp appetizer and entree for most he meals. Not as fancy a show as other Japanese dinner houses, but still a very nice meal.

Disappointed. Slow service ended up cancelling part of our order because it took too long. Plenty of staff around but nobody helping us. No attention other than taking order and dropping off food, glasses empty for a long time. Food nothing special. Ordered sushi rolls came out small, mostly rice. No plans to return when there are other options.

BEWARE! My family loves Shoguns restaurants but this location is shady! Were a party of 5 and 3 of us ordered filet mignons, the cook cooked 2 filets and split it in 3 plates. When I questioned it he claimed he cooked three filets, flat out lied!! Make sure you get what you pay for. The cook shouldnt be combining the steaks. Keep an eye on the shady cooks.Manager was informed but didnt seem concerned or surprised.

Waited for 15 minutes without being served after seated Sunday, June 4th, at dinner time with my guests. The waiter and the waitress need to be better trained for professional restaurant services. They should learn to know their manu well and learn to make professional suggestions when being asked for recommendations. They should learn to treat their clients politely and respectfully like treating VIPs. People pay and tip for not only enjoying the food, but also the atmosphere and service. I tipped the waiter/waitress well despite my unsatisfactory feeling with a hope that the manager of Shogun La Verne together with the waiters and waitresses improve their services in the days, months and years that follow. To whom it may concern,I’ve only been here maybe about 5 times and within those times I’ve noticed this place is just going out of customer service.....I don’t think understand why they continue hiring people who have no friendly service/work ethic,seems like their all college students just getting easy money being rude to the guest...my server named Allie whom is a new staff memeber was very rude to my husband and I,there was another family of three sitting with us and I definitely felt the difference between our service,I feel discriminated and felt like I was asking for too much with my refills of drinks the waiter kept disappearing on me.Although I dealt with this and paid for the bill I wasn’t even asked if I wanted a box for the rest of my food....I introduced myself to their manager in hopes that they better coach this young lady and possibly give me a better experience next time.

The lunch at Shogun was very good. We had a salad, filet mignon, chicken, vegetables and fried rice. They cook all this food right in front of you. Go before 3 in the afternoon and have the lunch menu. Sometimes it good to call for reservations. A lot of people go to the restaurant in La Verne. Enjoy!

All 6 of us had very uncomfortable evening after lunch here. Tasted great, had fun. All spent evening in bathroom and I did again 2 days later after eating leftovers. Sorry to say restaurant wasnt that concerned after I reported it to them. We will not celebrate there agsin. Bennihana here we come.
