I visited Shogun for the first time on a Saturday evening. I didn’t have a reservation but that was no problem and was seated immediately. Our server was kind & took our orders within a timely manner. Drinks and sushi were delicious. Chef also cooked our meal to perfection. The entertainment was fun & light. Definitely would recommend!

We were hungry for sushi, so we sat at the bar. The sushi was amazing, the New York New York roll is my favorite! The bartender was very friendly. We will be back to try the Teppen style dinner.

My expectations were exceeded in every category. Its main local competition (Benehanna) which I had experienced a few times is in a amateur league compared to Shogun.Our chef was an amazing & skilled entertainer as well as chef.

Today was our first visit here. 5 stars; would **definitely** recommend. Arnel was our hibachi grill artist and he was simply amazing! The kids really enjoyed the show and he cooked our food per our preferences and to perfection. Andrea was our server and she was very attentive and kind. A perfect lunch experience for a party of 7 includingtwo 8 year olds and 2 teenagers. We left stuffed and with plenty of leftovers for dinner later!

Brought the kids and mother in law for lunch and it was a blast!!! Most affordable hibachi meal ever and the chef and server were both above expectations. We love going to Shoguns and my 2 and 4 year old were laughing and smiling during the cook.

I think the place is going downhill. The food was underwhelming. I had to ask the chef for the sauces to be put out after half of our food was on our plate. And, I didn’t care for them. Usually the sauces are the tipping point to bring out the flavors. I didn’t like the creamy ginger sauce, very bland. They do not have low sodium soy sauce “anymore”. The chef was talented and gave a heartfelt show for the kids.

Of the three local places we have visited over many years. This was always our second most popular location.Everything was as expected, seated, right away, service was good, chef had a nice routine and patter. food was consistent as usual and very tasty and more than we could eat.Convenience factor definitely plays part for the area.

Visited this place on our Anniversary day with our two kids. We ordered New York Steak, Shrimp, and Teriyaki Chicken. Many thanks to our Teppanyaki chef Pepe who made this occasion extra special. Kids had so much fun. Definitely recommend it.

Havent been here in a very long time because they were messing up.But now I see, they changed up.Mostly hibachi & a few tables without.Still serving sushi, but they got rid of the ramen. It hurt my soul.Staff are friendly and attentive. Competitive prices.Came here for a birthday party & was not disappointed by the chefs performance.If youre doing low carb like myself, I ordered the dish that were on skewers with the shishito peppers & the sashimi plate. Both were delicious! They didnt have any soda, so water with lemon it was.The chicken fried rice was tasty, the sushi looked beautiful & the chicken yakisoba was a huge portion.The kids got mochi ice cream but they only had 3 flavors. Sadness.They seem to have a better staff & could hold 6 people at the hibachi table, so Id come again.

Good Japanese tableside teppanyaki restaurant. Food was tasty and fun to see it cooked right in front of you. These establishments are never cheap but. You wont leave hungry. Get in there on your birthday for a fun hat to wear while you eat.

Had a reservation at 7 pm and all people showed up on time. They refused to seat us and let in two parties who got here after us. When told we were next in line, we waited over an hour to sit. When we got there, the plates were still dirty. The food was however amazing and once we sat down, the service was decent. I’d recommend the restaurant but not this location for sure

I have been coming to this place for over 12 years. It is my kid’s favorite place to celebrate important events. Unfortunately in recent years I’ve seen a decline in service.I understand that many restaurants are struggling with personnel, but the way this is addressed is important. Some restaurants will tell you upfront that they are short and that the wait time is long.Today I made a reservation at 1:00 pm. I was told to be on time with my full party in order to receive service. We arrived sharp at 1:00 pm.We were seated until 1:25 pm. By 1:40 no one had even approached to ask if we wanted something to drink.At Shogun you are seated with other people. The other people decided to leave, so they sat another group.We informed the waiter that we were ready to order, but we were informed that since the other party was not complete, we had to wait until they had the full party at the table !!!Finally at 2:16, we had the cook cooking our food. When I order soy sauce, I waited 15 minutes and it never arrived, I stood up, walked to the bar and requested it myself.Later, I requested a bag for our left overs, again, it never arrived, I stood up myself and went to the bar again to request it.Lastly, we waited for over 15 mins to receive our bill. Since the waiter never came, we just walked to the lobby where the waiter finally met us with the bill.I have NEVER not paid a tip. However, today was the first time in my life when I left only 8% tip.I have never been so disappointed at this restaurant than today. It was probably my last visit after so many years. The service has been declining since covid.Food was great as always. The cook was great.

Overall a disappointing experience. The food was fine, but the servie was not great, especially for as much as we paid for the dinner. The bus boy dropped off carry out boxes as the chef was leaving. Clearly they were just trying to get us out of there. They didnt sing happy birthday to the 10 year old we were celebrating, then of course the bill was inacurate. Needless to say, we wont be going back and wouldnt recommend to others.

But it did not make up for the 1 hour wait for the chef to come, or the fact it tasted like a teriyaki shop. Extremely disappointed in the service at this restaurant today. I asked 2 employees to bring my son a birthday hat. They both did not after an half an hour. I asked for a simple draft Sapporo I had to get up and get it myself unfortunately. Told the manager she did nothing about it at all. No sorry no nothing. Almost tempted to just walk out of this place at this point. I will not tip a dime for this service.

I’d like to write in about my experience visiting your restaurant in San Marcos, CA. I visited on Friday April 28,2023. I made a reservation for 8 people, and we were celebrating two birthdays in our party. The food was decent, drinks were TERRIBLE, our server was decent, but the horrible service we received from the manager, Charm was the nail in the coffin. Before our drinks and appetizers even came out we were approached by Charm (the manager) and she asked us to keep our voices down. We weren’t disrupting any neighboring tables, and we were actually sitting in a more isolated table towards the left side of the restaurant. We were all shocked that we had been asked to stay quiet and keep the celebration to a minimum. Once drinks finally came out, 4 out of the 7 we ordered were sent back because they tasted terrible, or they weren’t anything like the ones pictured in the menu. One appetizer made it to the table, while the rest of us waited. Finally our chef made it out, and he was pleasant and helpful. He immediately knew that something was going on because we were all chatting about it. Our chef, Santos tried his best to help make it less akward and help come back from the comments she made to our table. During the whole dinner show, she stayed around our area almost like she was babysitting us the whole time. One dinner was also made incorrectly, but we dealt with it. We asked to speak with her again towards the end of our dinner and then she took a while to come back. A few of us let her know how we were feeling about the all around service, but she only apologized. We had two members of our party who had never been to Shogun, and the rest of us had been there plenty of times and had never experienced what we did that evening. None of our drinks or meals were comped and we will NEVER be coming back to this location again. I hope that this helps better the service at this location, and hopefully someone else won’t have to deal with such a terrible overall experience.

There were no people waiting, and only two tables were occupied in the entire restaurant, yet we felt rushed. They took my childs napkin, my napkin, and the knife for cutting the steak. We couldnt engage in much conversation, as it seemed they expected us to leave as soon as the chef finished cooking. I didnt even have the chance to finish my drink or sushi.I recommend visiting the other Shogun location, as theres a reason its always packed. Im giving two stars because the chef was pleasant. Additionally, the childrens chairs were unsanitary, and even after requesting a cleaning, there was still food stuck to them.

Onion soup was fantastic, fried rice was literally the best fried rice I’ve ever had by a landslide, the filet mignon and vegetables were beyond delicious and the shrimp was great as well. Excellent portions sizes and even better taste. I genuinely cannot recommend this place enough as it is absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait to come back!!I cannot remember the chef’s name, but he was from the Philippines.

Only downside on those tables if youre sitting with some tough-crwod strangers that dont show any emotion especially when the chef tries their best to entertain the guests. Fried rice is the bomb.

This is a tough one. Overall, the experience was good, the chef was great, and the quality of the food was good for the price. However, some of the key elements were just not that enjoyable causing me to think about if I would return. The mustard sauce tasted more like thousand island, the fried rice, steak, and lobster were just bland. However, the vegetables, shrimp and scallops were particularly good.All that said, the night was still enjoyable due to our chef. One of the better ones.

Appalled at the service we got on Valentine’s Day.Got sat at 730… table next to us got sat at 8… they got their salads appetizers and chef at 830 we hadn’t even got our salads or appetizers at that time. That is someone else’s food. It would have been nice for her to communicate she was busy or backed up, that’s all it takes.It was my birthday and I told them I didn’t want my desert or a celebration at the end due to the horrible service at the end.I missed my plans after dinner ON VALENTINES DAY due to the almost 3 hour sit down here when multiple tables have left when they sat after us.I will never be returning to this location due to the lack of management and non existent server communication. All it takes is simple words and communication to let us know what is going on and management or the staff could not do that.

I recently visited Shogun in San Marcos, and while the chef and food were decent, I was disappointed with the overall experience. The restaurant was unclean, with dirty glasses that were served to us. When we asked the manager to clean our table, it seemed like she did the bare minimum, passing a dirty rug over the table without even removing the plates and dishes.While the food itself was okay, the lack of attention to cleanliness and hygiene was a major issue for me. Its disappointing to have a dining experience that is negatively impacted by something as basic as clean glasses and tables. Despite the friendly attitude of the chef, the poor service and lack of attention to detail really detracted from the overall experience.

Had a great time here with my girlfriend. The host was bland and the server brisk but it was easy to overlook when Chef Ding Dong started cooking for us. His in-your-face method was a great and something I really miss from our pre-covid world. We shared the table with a group that sat across, easily further than 6ft and felt comfortable. I called in my order on the phone. I was told that it would take about an hour, no problem. It was three entrees with sides and an appetizer. The worker told me shed call when it was ready. Over an hour passes and there was no call so I decide to show up anyway. The food was 100% ready to go waiting for me. Whatever, I can deal with it. When I finally got back home and opened my food, I only asked for one modification on a single entree and it wasnt adhered too. I was also not informed that there was shrimp in the steak yakisoba. I *abhor* shrimp. The taste makes me gag. So I picked it out and tried it anyway and the food is just mediocre at best. Not worth $100 for two adults and one kid. Chances are I wont visit again, and definitely not on my own. Would be three stars if the price was reasonable for the quality.

First off I would like to say that I am from the Temecula area so I have been to the shoguns multiple times and had very good experiences out in Temecula area. when I went to the shoguns in San Marcos I had a horrible experience first off I would like to say that the place is run-down disgusting inside holes in the carpet the ceiling tiles are missing and it looks very dirty our server cook didnt even play music when I asked him about it he told me that the music was broken they asked if I had a special occasion I told them it was my mother-in-laws birthday... they never came once to wish her a happy birthday it was embarrassing that restaurant needs to be shut down it doesnt even serve good beer I ordered a Stone IPA and I drink it and it didnt taste right so I thought maybe it was something so then I ordered a Ballast Point sculpin IPA and that also taste like crap either the lines arent cleaned or those kegs have been sitting for awhile. make the drive to Temecula and check out the show guns out there that will be the real Shogun experience. I tried to contact their website to let them know how disgusted their restaurant is running but nobody has reached out to me I will post the photos I took.

Arnel is the Best, takes his time to serve to perfection. We have tried shoguns from San Diego to Temecula and this place has been our favorite. We dont have to worry about parking and do not have to worry about being turned away due to capacity. The staff is always so attentive and keep the exceptional customer service.

The food is amazing here! I got the spicy chicken here from a chef named “Santos”, and it was really good! The Teppanyaki shows here are always so entertaining to watch! Please double check your bill before leaving the restaurant and MAKE SURE YOU CHARGED what you ordered. I was over charged and when I realized that I was already gone. A party of 10 people, one of the order was cancelled, the waitress Karina still ended up putting the cancelled order in our bill. Anyways I have file a dispute for that over charge. Dont bother making a reservation because youll have to wait either way. Then youll have to wait a hour for a chef to show up and another 30 for your food to be done. By that point youll be annoyed and not enjoy the tricks the chefs do. The food is subpar and not worth the money or the wait. All workers were nice so thats a plus. Disappointed with the staff yesterday. Usually good service and food. However, yesterdays experience was horrible. We made birthday reservations for 12 people but when we got there they refused to sit us because we exceeded their 10 person limit. To be fair, the hostess did inform us of this rule which we understood, so we asked if the party could be split. The hostess gave us the green light after consulting with her management team however, like I stated above when we finally arrived and the staff refused to sit us. Like i said, I totally understand their policy but they could have called us back before this day or before we arrived and just said hey we cannot accommodate your request.. Either way, we still had fun eating at the old california mining company and they even accommodated 2 extra people placing us at a party of 14. For future WARNING, Shoguns will not accept you if you exceed 10 people.

Our Chef, Arvin, was incredible. Everything on my Shogun special was cooked to perfection. The prices are much better than other restaurants this style. My biggest complaint was that the pink sauce was a little too mayonnaise-y. Besides that, I would say Shogun is all around better than that popular chain that everyone is familiar with.

My husband and I both got the Hibachi Steak, and it was cooked perfectly and delicious. Not a place to go on a budget, but food was plentiful and drinks were strong ;-). We had a great time!

Went to the restaurant 2 evenings ago. No one was attending the front...waited patiently for 5-7 minutes. No less that 3 female employees walked by and saw me and said nothing, they seemed to be in pre-occupied conversation among themselves. Not one said greeted me or said Hi, well be right with you. Additionally, the mr.wannabe cool bartender also looked at me several times (he was not busy nor serving anyone) and said nothing. Seems like they cater to the local college crowd.I finally left and wont be back. I will tell friends and clients about my experience and will also post my experience on my social media pages as well.Very very rude and lame customer service.

Had such a great experience last night (6-6-20), it was our first dining experience since lockdown due to COVID 19. We were welcome by the front host (Arlet), I think thats how you spell it) she was so welcoming and nice. She was able to answer all our questions and made us feel safe and comfortable. I dont really like leaving bad reviews but I feel I have to. We have been here a few times before and have had decent experiences but I think this place is going downhill. First we had a reservation for 8pm. I called and they said they would hold our reservation for 10 minutes only and our entire party had to be there to be seated. Turns out she is on drugs and the police had to be called. There was a scene in front of the restaurant. I go back inside and its now 8.30. Still not seated and I ask what is going on. They tell me they are waiting for a tables and apologize for everything and offer a discount. Then they tell me a table is almost done and then say someone called because we werent there on time and had to give my reservation up. I checked my phone and no voicemail or missed call but I let it slide because I think we are going to get seated. 8.55 still not seated no one is in the lobby except us which is now really uncomfotable. Ask to speak to the manager and am really disappointed now. I tell him 1. I checked my phone and no one called and did not appreciate them making up a story like that. 2. What is the point of making a reservation when no one in lobby and its only us. Long story short we are starving and its 9pm with no seating in sight so we couldnt take it anymore and left. My mom was visiting from out of town and this was supposed to be a belated Mothers Day dinner. Terrible experience. The place is also looking dirty and not well kept inside. We wont be back.

Waitresses do not care about the work industry and have no considerations for others waiting for food. Though still have not tried it, the service is the utmost horrid. As it smells delicious, the fury is only growing.

We actually enjoyed our Teppanyaki dinner at Shogun last night (our first time there). The food was really good, and the service was fine.The reasons Im knocking a couple of stars off a perfect score are that it was over-priced, given the atmosphere, and the atmosphere itself, was a huge let-down.While the Teppanyaki room was nice, the ambient noise was unbearable, and to get to it, you have to walk past an old, unappetizing sushi bar that was in pretty bad shape. Maybe they were in the middle of remodeling, but the wall behind the sushi chefs was filled with holes, as though things had hung there once, had been ripped down, and nobody bothered to get the Spackle and paint. Too, one of the sushi chefs was walking-around with a shrimp hanging out of his mouth, as if he was unaware that customers could see.Weve been to a number of Benihana locations over the years, and they set the bar much higher for a classy (expensive) Teppanyaki night out. We were surprised, too, that the menu prices here are, for the most part, even higher, so next time, well skip Shogun, and go to Benihana in Carlsbad, instead.But again, nothing at all wrong with the quality of the food, or the service.

I come for the Sushi bar, at happy hour prices are great. $3 cutrolls and $1 nigiri, and stone or Sapporo for $3. Im not sure about the grill hear but all the fish and rolls are good. Cool Chris rolls and such. Sushi bar and wait staff are awesome.

They remolded completely put more tapan grills in an 4 tables for sushi eating which are also the waiting area very uncomfortable to eat as a family.. Also cut their sushi menu down to maybe 8 rolls an sizes are smaller also .... Never eating here again very disappointing

I highly recommend eating at the teppanyaki grill. Like any typical teppanyaki restaurant, they do the cool tricks like fire volcanoes, the infamous egg roll, etc to keep you entertained while they cook your food right there in front of you. I ordered the lemon chicken and samurai shrimp. Both were delicious. But Ive definitely had better fried rice from other teppanyaki restaurants. My dad had the lobster, which he gave me a piece of and that was phenomenal as well.
