Shogun Restaurant
695 S Rancho Santa Fe Rd, San Marcos, CA 92078, United States
I'd like to write in about my experience visiting your restaurant in San Marcos, CA. I visited on Friday April 28,2023. I made a reservation for 8 people, and we were celebrating two birthdays in our party. The food was decent, drinks were TERRIBLE, our server was decent, but the horrible service we received from the manager, Charm was the nail in the coffin. Before our drinks and appetizers even came out we were approached by Charm (the manager) and she asked us to keep our voices down. We weren't disrupting any neighboring tables, and we were actually sitting in a more isolated table towards the left side of the restaurant. We were all shocked that we had been asked to stay quiet and keep the celebration to a minimum. Once drinks finally came out, 4 out of the 7 we ordered were sent back because they tasted terrible, or they weren't anything like the ones pictured in the menu. One appetizer made it to the table, while the rest of us waited. Finally our chef made it out, and he was pleasant and helpful. He immediately knew that something was going on because we were all chatting about it. Our chef, Santos tried his best to help make it less akward and help come back from the comments she made to our table. During the whole dinner show, she stayed around our area almost like she was babysitting us the whole time. One dinner was also made incorrectly, but we dealt with it. We asked to speak with her again towards the end of our dinner and then she took a while to come back. A few of us let her know how we were feeling about the all around service, but she only apologized. We had two members of our party who had never been to Shogun, and the rest of us had been there plenty of times and had never experienced what we did that evening. None of our drinks or meals were comped and we will NEVER be coming back to this location again. I hope that this helps better the service at this location, and hopefully someone else won't have to deal with such a terrible overall experience.
Pan Asia Buffet
707 Center Dr, San Marcos, CA 92069, United States
Been looking for a good Chinese buffet and of course standards aren’t always high at these kind of places. I saw that some of the reviews said they were really rude here but honestly, as someone who has traveled all across Asia, it’s pretty normal for restaurants not to be super nice or what not to you. It’s not authentic and in Asia they don’t work for tips because they don’t accept free money like that. So when I face rudeness at an Asian restaurant is doesn’t bother me as long as the food is good. The spread at this place had so much! They had a hibachi grill, the sushi selection was so fresh! Actually all the seafood was fresh! The rolls too! The chicken wings were nice and crisp! Perfect! The meats were okay I thought the octopus was over cooked a bit but still good. And the desert was delicious! They all tasted super high quality. The marshmallow I dipped in the chocolate fountain was magical! So delicious and fun! Their ice cream was also really good with a great variety of topping!10 out of 10 will be back!
Kinaly Lao and Thai Food
1252 E Mission Rd #3036, San Marcos, CA 92069, United States
One of the best Thai food restaurants that I have dined at in California. Small but friendly atmosphere with good friendly service. The authentic dishes and the quality of the food in combination with the taste makes this place a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys great Asian cuisine.W Treadwell.
Curry & More - Indian Bistro
113 S Las Posas Rd #111, San Marcos, CA 92078, United States
Been here at least 10 times in the past 3 years. Food is fantastic! Visited with my family last night and will never ever return. I dont know how one man can completely ruin an experience to warrant us from never returning. The other reviewers are right about the owner. In the past he would just stand in the front and mind his own business and greet the customers. Last night he did exactly what the other reviewers were complaining about. He hovered over our table trying to hurry us up. Instead of a waiter assisting us he decided to take care of our table and the other tables. He came to our table many times if we were ready to order drinks, apps and dinner. We said we needed a few minutes please. Then he said well you need to order dinner because our kitchen is closing at 7:40pm and said it very rudely. My mom ordered garlic naan and he gave us plain naan. He proceeded to argue with my mom insisting she ordered the plain. Instead of making it right and getting us a garlic naan, he walked away. Because the bussers were so kind I gave a 20% tip but will never ever return again. In all my years of dining experiences I have never been continuously treated this rudely. He was doing the same thing to the table next to us. I dont know what happened to this establishment, its sad to see it drop from my list.
Panda Garden
742 S Rancho Santa Fe Rd, San Marcos, CA 92078, United States
I used to go to a restaurant called China Wok in Restaurant Row to get Chinese food, but unfortunately they closed down due to the pandemic. Im pleased to find that Panda Garden has been able to fill that need for asian food in this area. Theyre quick and allow you to call ahead. Theyll make catering trays for large parties and provide you with utensils if needed. Theres usually not a wait and they currently dont have indoor dining.
Umai Sushi
730 Nordahl Rd UNIT 108, San Marcos, CA 92069, United States
I am a sushi lover. After reading the good reviews, I brought my family to eat here for the first time. What a disappointment! As we were walking in, there were two young men sitting and standing right by the entrance watching us walk in. They were clearly sushi chefs, but no greeting. Just staring like those punk kids who hang out around liquor store. This made my wife very uncomfortableSushi were small portioned and not authentic. Plates were dirty. They looked like they were just wiped with a dirty towel (I could see smears of grease or whatever it was). Edges of plates had broken off and had jagged edges. Udon noodle soup looked like they just opened up an instant udon you buy from Asian markets. The owner should be ashamed of him/herself for running a sushi restaurant like this. They have a good location for a business and good servers, but they need to step up on their quality of their food and invest in some new plates and bowels.I wont be eating here again.
Sue Thai Om

That place is off the hook, fantastic! I have no clue what the other reviewer is talking about.. every other site (urban spoon, yelp, etc) has glowing reviews of this place, and its easy to see why.Their won-ton soup is the best I've ever had – just wonderful. The green curry is still making me drool just remembering it. The heavenly noodles lived up to their name (especially with rice noodle substituted for the crispy). The fried spring rolls were so crispy as to be unreal. The jasmine rice smelled wonderful, the basil is fresh.. everything you would of course expect in a good Thai restaurant and then some.My family of 4 stuffed ourselves like pigs at the trough, and even after a healthy tip, walked out of there under $50 and had food to take home. The only complaint (and that one small) of the evening was that they were a little slow in seating us.This is the kind of place where once the cook had filled everyone's orders, came out to personally ask how we were doing and to play with our 3 y/o daughter. This is just a small, wonderful, Thai restaurant - and well be visiting it many times in the future.
Panda Express
670 W San Marcos Blvd, San Marcos, CA 92069, United States
Chow mein was mushy, teriyaki chicken was barely cut and mushroom chicken was way too greasy. I'm not usually one to complain about a fast food restaurant, but this experience was bad. The lady behind the counter asked us if we wanted to wait for fresh chow mein, but we were on a time limit because we had to go back to work so we just took what they had. It shouldn't have been served at all. It ruined our lunch. The mushroom chicken was disgusting and greasy too. Definitely not as fresh as it's been before. When I came back to see if there was anything that could be done, I got attitude from the cashier and she said “Well I asked you if you wanted to wait for the fresh chow mein.” After her and the other cashier exchanged their dirty looks towards me, she offered to give a fresh portion of chow mein and mushroom chicken. But I rather not have been served at all. The two ladies were unfriendly and not willing to hear what I had to say. This place has bad service.
Onnys Thai Restaurant
1903 W San Marcos Blvd #100, San Marcos, CA 92078, United States
If you are seeking the most authentic, the best and most adventurous Thai dining location in all of upper San Diego county, this is the spot u need to go!!! This location is fairly new, having been open roughly three months shy of a year from when this review was published. The restaurant is fairly small and is smack on the corner of very busy, intensive traffic intersection, yet whenever I go (which is when I see the rush of vehicles originating from palomar airport road heading into my city of san marcos, coinciding with their happy hour) the restaurant is almost vacant! The general manager and I have come to agreement that those big circular decals they invested in for the purpose of sticking on the windows and the fact that they chose the location right in the corner of said busy intersection do them absolutely no good. It seems like the rush hour traffic is just so bent and focused on getting home or doing plenty of other things besides having adventurous Thai dining. Despite the fact that the place is right out of the corner of their eye, those people are missing out by not checking this place out! Seems like social media and the web may be better marketing strategies for them. As far as the food is concerned, it is by far the best thai food i have ever tasted, a complete foodgasm for lack of a better term. I usually get the chicke pad see yu with no spicy because i am not a big fan of spicy, but if you love spicy then they can make your entreè as spicy as you want it. The spring rolls complemented by the sweet sauce are also a really good appetizer. I usually attend this establishment for their happy hour and craft beers on draft. Their handles are usually rotating so do not be surprised if a couple weeks later you see a craft beer that was not there before. Due to the fact that this is a Thai restaurant, you can always find their signature Thai lager Singha on draft, which is very delicious by the way. Back then they only had four beers on draft but now they added two more for a total of six! My favorite one is the latitude 33 ipa. They also have a bunch of other crafts in bottles as well as wine. I highly recommend going during happy hour which is from four to seven post meridian pacific standard time because there beers are only three bucks a pint, which is almost a steal for quality craft beer. I also love the owners because they are very friendly as well as the staff that works there, that is another huge reason I go. I hope their business thrives so eventually they can sell the restaurant and move to Thailand, I can only hope for the best. Team pink always supports team purple!!!im out for now, peace!
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue - San Marcos (Inside Walm...

Im leaving a one star review to hopefully get the franchise owners attention to details! We were in Wal-Mart on the evening of 12/22/2021 and decided to stop on the way out to grab some dinner to take home. It was about 8:10 pm when we made the order and it was for 1 Loco Moco plate and the 3 meat Protein Plate over cabbage. Each order came with egg and I asked for scrambled on the Protein plate. It took about 15 minutes to receive the food, two guys were working and it seemed a bit slow for the amount of people there. We got home and opened our food and it looked decent. I sampled a piece of the egg on my way to go sit down and my egg was crunchy! I spit it out and was crunching on eggshell. I spit it out and rinsed it under water to make sure that is what it was. Sure enough. I looked around my plate for any other clues to more eggshell and it looked fine. I had a few bites left and yet again. Really? The Loco Moco was enjoyed until about 1/2 way through that plate there was eggshell in it also and that was a sunny side up fried egg.In the restaurant industry you cant serve this to people and hope to survive. The facility was less than clean but the guy at the register was friendly. A little training for the guy in the back will go a long way.
