Wow this is the best sushi around! If you like overpowered sauce and overcomplex rolls this is not for you, go to Arigato. However if you want the highest quality fish and rolls built to taste it then this is it. Amazing for both takeout and dine-in. I will be back for sure! Thank you.
The food was absolutely amazing and the owner came out and introduced himself. Some of the best sushi I have had in a very long time. Highly recommend to everyone! Lots of flavor and the fish tasted fresh!
Our favorite place to eat. The food is excellent. We are not really sushi eaters but the combo plate that allows you to order a CA roll, teriyaki chicken, and tempura combo is exquisite. The owner/chef is very friendly and involved wi5h the guests. Were not karaoke folks but had fun listening while we ate. Perfect family small business to support even though we moved an hour away from Carmichael we eat Japanese here.
I had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant when my husband and I recently ordered take out. The online menu they have linked on here (through Google Drive) does not have accurate prices. We paid ~$10-15 more than we expected when it was time to pick up our order. Be aware if you are looking at their online menu!To the owners: please update your online menu, otherwise it is false advertising. Good sushi and close to where we live but we will not be returning because we feel the online menu is misleading.

The food is great but we received very poor service. After the first meal came, the second one came 15 minutes later, and the waiters didnt really see concern, so I was forced to leave no tip even though we got the second meal for free.
Showed up at 6pm with three people and seated, (forgotten about) order taken at 6:20pm, (forgotten about?), 6:50pm and we ask about the food to be told it’s maybe three tables back. A table that got there well after us gets served.Not a great experience, forget not get tbh served, it’s the wasted time that cost the most!
10 out of 10 would go again any time. Was very happy with how patient and kind they were to my wife on the phone. When we went to pick up our order the owner was working very hard at the bar an still made time to thank my wife for our order. The food quality, service, price and even location where great across the board. Anyone leaving a bad review doesnt understand quality service. We will be back.
Had the best sushi last night! I have never seen a sushi chef work so quickly and so vigorously!!! Go Jimmy!!!!!! He is a true artisan....arigato for great food and service. The Alex roll is divine and so lemony. This place has a great ambience too. Well designed and very original. Well worth the price, which isnt really outrageous either. Love this place and a Carmichael gem for sure :)

Delicious fresh food, great portions especially on the bento combos. Highly recommend the short ribs and honey spicy chicken, as well as the pepper fin. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is welcoming and friendly. Whenever Im in the Carmichael area definitely gotta stop by and say hello to Jimmy!
Was excited to try out a new sushi place after reading reviews, however we showed up at 7:30PM on 10-17-22 and they were closed! Hours on Google show open 5PM-9PM. Tried calling them, no answer. Had to go to a different sushi place and it was great. Not coming back here.
Hands down the best dragon roll Ive ever had in my life. The place is very cute inside, the owner Jimmy is awesome, makes all the sushi himself and is kickass. Very very very good sushi Im amazed Ive never been to this place before.
Absolutely the most horrible dining experience I have had in my life, without exception. We waited 15 minutes to even be greeted or get a glass of water. Ordered at that time, received miso soup and then were completely ignored again. The sushi chef flitted around visiting all the regulars who came in, one of whom was served within 5 minutes of being seated. Then another table who had almost arrived an hour after us was served- that was when we left. An hour to prepare two sushi rolls? This negative review is well earned.
Great staff, they are all very nice. The bathrooms are clean and spacious, with no smell. Theyve got tables for 4, and 8, but chairs can be moved to accommodate more or less. They have an excellent menu, and the food itself is amazing. Theres a sushi bar where you can see the sushi as it is being made. It does get very full and busy so service can be a little slow.
They always greet you as soon as you walk in. I cant speak for everything but I live the Sexy Rolls stuffed with a crab mixture. I ask for crunchy topping and their special sauce and Jimmy, the owner always, always makes it perfect! Its wrapped with Salmon and nice quality, not fishy tasting at all.I had a meal there too once with a friend and it was excellent as well!!
So glad we finally got to try this hidden gem! Every single dish we got was absolutely delicious and on point, from our calamari tempura app, to our sushi rolls, bento box and deep fried cheesecake. We will be back very soon and we cannot wait for our next meal with you 🙏🏼🙌🏽
My friend ordered the salmon lovers delight roll for me as I dont know much about sushi. I do know I loved it! Crab and avocado stuffed roll with salmon strips atop. Great flavor- tasted even better the next day. Darker kind of romantic ambience inside. We sat at the bar to watch the chef work his magic. Highly recommended. Can wait to go back.
The food here is excellent. Im not even a sushi fan (my gf is) but this place always delivers good taste and quality from the Gyoza to the California and 49er rolls. Fried rolls have tempted me out if Bento boxes because raw fish disgusts me.AMMENDED REVIEW.Im changing my rating because my initial complaint was about rudeness. That has changed drastically and the staff are very gracious and nice, even when slammed busy. This is a stark contrast to my initial visits.Now 5 stars.

No idea how this place is a 4.9 on here. You people really need to leave Carmichael for your meals. The sushi here is incredibly average, the rolls are small, and comparable sushi can be had at those 50% off rolls places. Yes, those places are comparable to this one, and in many cases, bigger and better.On the bright side, the service was really good.If this is really the best sushi place in town, as others have put it, Ill be sure to leave Carmichael and dine in other parts of the city.
This place is just killer. Amazing food, great service, and the perfect atmosphere for stellar sushi. The owners, Jimmy and Paige are very passionate about what they do, and it shows in the food. The rest of the wait staff is at the very top of their game without being clingy in the slightest. Give these guys a try, you will absolutely NOT be disappointed.
Absolutely delicious, starting going to eat out here a few weeks ago and cant get enough, jimmy is an awesome guy, and eating here is always a pleasant experience, its my go-to Japanese recommendation for great food and at a great price too, atmosphere is cozy and inviting as well to boot!
Writing this before I even finish my first rolls from here :) this is quality sushi 👌 fresh, amazing taste, and well crafted. Not an obvious greedy profit maker like a lot of these places with all rice and hardly any ingredients. Both the M.I.A and the deep fried spicy roll I ordered are packed full and absolutely delicious!
My daughter and I were deciding which new sushi spot to try and this had good reviews. Upon entering everything was clean and we were sat immediately. When I saw the menus falling apart with little hand drawn asterisks to notate imitation crab I was extremely skeptical. I ordered a few rolls without crab and my daughter ordered a few with. Everything came out with great presentation, crispy, fresh and delicious. The server was very nice and attentive. We will be back. I bet their guests initial impression would improve with some new menus :)
This is my sushi joint. They never disappoint on the flavor. Its always yummy and delicious. The staff is always super nice! They have a good selection of sushi rolls. Tasty hot sake and small but good beer variety. The bento boxes come with tons of food. Overall great place for lunch and dinner.

Best sushi in town ! From the high quality fish to the delicious hand crafted rolls. Jimmy, who owns the restaurant and his wife Page are always wonderful. Fast friendly service, great food. My personal favorites are the hot night and going crazy rolls!! I love salmon and tuna, the spice of the hot night is perfectly paired for the cool cream cheese in the going crazy. Only down side is they do close mid day so you have to plan for lunch or dinner to not have your heart broken by lacking tasty sushi in your life. They also can get really busy so it can be nice to order Togo before hand so you can have you sushi ready to when you get there !
This is proudly our neighborhood sushi place. The food is excellent, the ambiance is warm but modern and Paige and Jimmy are fantastic. We are fortunate to live near such a wonderful locally owned business.

I enjoy this place so much! The food is amazing and the people are so friendly!! Good prices, and amazing sushi!The only downside is that they close randomly. Its not that the hours are incorrect, they just close early every now and then.

This place has some of the best service Ive ever experienced. Ordered one time and the waitress knew what we wanted everytime after. Even after a 4-5 month break.Took some friends and waitress listened to what they like and made excellent recommendations.
I will admit, I was close to giving it a 4/5 because the original waitress was making a few mistakes (not giving a spoon after she delivered the soup, then giving me a dirty spoon after I asked for one), but then I realized she was just an order taker and they placed her back on the phone. The new waitress made sure our food was good, drinks were full, and everything was going well. The Sushi chef even came out to give us our rolls. My mother and I enjoyed them. Hope you will as well!
Food was alright. Nothing particularly special, not bad rolls. However, the owner seemed to disregard much of COVID-19 safety measures. He had his masks on his chin, with his whole mouth exposed. He was hugging customers. There was a customer waiting for the pick up order without a mask, but he didnt say a single word. It took ONE HOUR for my order. Even worse, I was told 30 minutes, so I went there to pick up after 30 minutes, just to wait another 30 minutes. No apologies. Highly unlikely Ill go back there.

FRESH fish, excellent prices, wonderful chatting to the sushi chef. He has a fantastic story and lots of history around the Bay Area and Sacramento, is very engaged with the customers, and offered us multiple rounds of sake and appraisers as we waited. Quaint and cozy hole in the wall place. Will definitely make this our go-to sushi place near by.
Fast, good and decently priced. We were seated quickly even though it was a Friday night. It is not very large on the inside and located in a bit of a dodgy strip mall but the great services, food and prices make up for lack of ambiance.

I am a weekly regular at Tonari. The staff is always very friendly and the food is equally delicious. I cant get enough of their dynamite sauce and the rolls are easy to eat. I have had issues with tough seaweed in many other Japanese restaurants but not at Tonari. Overall I am very pleased with the amount of food you get for the price you pay compared to other japanese restaurants in the area. Everything is fresh when I get it :)
I got the 3 item dinner with teriyaki beef... and it was the highlight.. the beef was super tender it was wonderfully marinated, definitely did not need anymore sauce on it. My husband got the dragon roll, which he absolutely loved, and the nigiri plate. He said the nigiri plate lacked options really. We would still suggest this place anytime. The people were nice and the food was yummy, although prices are a little higher than we would like. Mine was $16 plus my tea and his was like $30 plus his soda.
First time coming here, the place is small but good. The service was good and the food wasnt bad it is a bit in pricey side but sushi places tend top be. I would drop by if your in the area craving sushi.

Truly amazing sushi, the chef Jimmy is a great guy who is always very friendly and very talented at making sushi. We always get the manzanita and at least 3 other rolls. The decor inside is nice and a bit more casual than other sushi joints that want to go with ultra modern club look. They serve a variety of alcohols as well.
Twice we’ve tried to check out this place. Twice they’ve been completely closed during their posted open hours. Save your energy, go somewhere else.Note to the business, the least you could do is update your operating hours. Do better. You’re in the service industry.

They have a great selection of beers!A friend and I dropped in till celebrate my birthday. What an absolute delight. They have edamame plain, garlic, or spicy. The garlic was obviously roasted to perfection! At the end of our meal, the server brought me a piece. Of. DEEP. FRIED. CHEESECAKE! This is something I should never have discovered and now I want more!I can not wait to return.

Came here for sushi to-go, and it was prepared in a shorter time than estimated. The rolls (caterpillar, 49er, Sacto) were absolutely delicious. I wanted to order the Sacto w/o spicy crab, and they were perfectly willing to accommodate. This is definitely going to be my familys new favorite sushi place! Super delicious and cool atmosphere inside. Highly recommend.

This is a great little place for Japanese food. The sushi rolls are delicious, they have wonderful sause. The teriyaki beef is yummy, and the crab stuffed jalapeno poppers are awesome!
The sushi was good. The flamming dragon was fun! The service was okay since the two servers were kept busy with a large party that was very needy. Will go back if in the area again.

I cant say enough about the food here. I grew up eating traditional Japanese dishes, so I can be a bit snobby about todays Japanese style restaurants and to be honest there are only about 5 in the greater Sacramento area that I will dine in. The food here is not only tasty and extremely fresh, but it looks beautiful (as it should). I love the Chirashi Donburi, it comes with a beautiful variety of fresh sashimi, rice, pickles and sushi rice. SO GOOD! My only request would be to have more tskemono, but this is something that is invariably missing in todays American Style Japanese restaurants at least Shogun offers a couple. I will continue to come here!

Last time I was there the service was terrible, they were short staffed and the waitress was stressed out, we ordered one last item which we never got and could not wait any longer, we were upset and just wanted leave so we ended up paying for something we did not get. Get the veggie roll. Hidden in the back of the menu, this gem has fried asparagus and yam, kampyo, cucumber, about, inari, and comes with delicious house dipping sauce. Id post a picture but I ate it up too fast!

2023-05-28 04:43:10In the evening of 4/21/23 we waited 30 minutes to even be greeted or acknowledged. Tried to get the attention of one of the servers, they kept passing by us to visit other tables. Once she came by we received menus and she said she would be back with waters and to take our order. 15 minutes later she came back to take our order. At the time we were told it would be 40 minutes before our sushi would be ready.We should have walked at this point but we were hungry, and at least the two of us were engaged in good conversation. It wasnt all that busy at the time but still, our sushi came about 35 minutes later.We ate here based upon the reviews. It wasnt bad sushi and it wasnt amazing either. Just decent sushi. We just happened to be in the Fair Oaks area and stopped by. I dont plan on coming back.

2023-06-28 05:18:49Come here all the time and the sushi is always good. Takes a while to get the food sometimes so it loses a star on service but it’s worth it for the taste. There’s always seating inside and it’s a good atmosphere.

2022-07-22 01:34:55First time in, ordered a lot with family of four.- Salmon and tuna sashimi (top notch)- Shogun special roll (crispy, crunchy)- asked for a Chefs special roll (the BEST)- soft shell crab (excellent, crispy)- Pepperdine fish (tasty)- green mussels (medium size)- beef terrifyaki bowl (tender, juicy beef)- udon noodles traditional (bland, so-so)- 2x kirin largeFood came out quick, fresh, and delicious. The reviews in Yelp and here are accurate. Nice large portions of fish, especially sashimi. Balanced rice to fish rolls and NOT heavy sauced.I hate oversauced rolls because they are hiding things either fish isnt fresh or compensating for lack of fish. Didnt experience that here.The sushi chef Jimmy took his time to come over and greet us. Very friendly and personable guy.The place is a bit warm due to triple digit heat (minus star), but they try their best to keep it cool and keep window blinds up (it looks closed from the outside).Overall 5/5 will definitely return. I compared this location with multiple sushi places in 10 mile radius and this is a great value, food portion to quality. Highly recommend trying out.

2018-12-19 03:35:53Took the family here in the suggestion from a friend on my birthday and WOW. Had head nothing but good things to begin with and they did not disappoint at all. There were plenty of familiar rolls on the menu but a plethora of new things to try with the Four Seasons being a stand out above the crowd for the family and I. Easy to say some of the best sushi I have ever had!

2023-04-02 03:41:12Masterfully prepared. It was a hectic night and the shop only had one chef. He was slinging rolls out. We had to wait a bit, but it was well worth it. Some of the best Sushi Ive had around Sacramento and SF recently.

2020-12-31 22:33:51Without checking the Google Maps reviews, I never would have tried this place out for great washoku but I am glad I did. Right now with COVID-19, restaurant selection is reduced but exceptional restaurants will apparently still be exceptional. We tried the tempura shrimp and vegetable combo and a couple of rolls. The tempura is flavorful, crispy and not oily with perfect temperature. The miso soup was great and the rolls were good enough that my kids ate the food and are willing to come back again. I plan to return again in 3-9 months and see if this place can maintain their top-qualuty flavor. I was just compelled to write about this place since the flavor was among the best in the Sacramento metro area. TOTEMO OHISHIKATTA DESU!
