Miso hungry! Stopped off in Calistoga for a little sushi. The miso soup was very nice. The sushi was fresh and tasty. My wife had the ramen and wasn’t very happy, the broth was not very tasty and the meat had a funky flavor. Having said that the waitress was very good about it, and it was dealt with in a professional manner.

The plating was lovely, the food was okay. Inside the restaurant however is a faint tinge of urine. My friend and I chose to ignore it because we were extremely hungry, the service was very slow but I dont know maybe there were take out orders and we just werent seeing anyone come get them. My soup spoon had lipstick on it so I set it aside on the table and tried to drink the bowl without a spoon but even the bowl had a strange after taste. The waitress didnt seem to care that I put the spoon off to the side with the bright red lipstick facing up and was usually gone before I could mention it, rarely ever to return again. Im pretty sure if I did say anything I would have just received the same spoon with it wiped off. I dont know if I went when the B team was scheduled but the rice was very chewy for me and the flavors somewhat lacked so I wasnt entirely impressed. Over-all it isnt a bad spot but if youre a seasoned sushi consumer.. maybe go somewhere else

Sushi Mambo disappoints on multiple fronts. The excruciating wait times are nothing short of infuriating, turning what should be a pleasant dining experience into a test of patience. I had to wait 1 hour for uncooked noodles! The uncooked noodles served are a culinary misstep, a blatant disregard for basic cooking standards. However, what truly sets this establishment apart is its abysmal service. The staffs incompetence and lack of attentiveness transform what could be a redeemable meal into an exercise in frustration. Sushi Mambo needs a serious overhaul to salvage any semblance of a positive dining reputation.

The taste is average, the service attitude is not good, three people gave two glasses of water, we were still chatting, the waiter kept coming to take our dishes away, and before we wanted to leave, the waiter handed us the check! Very bad feeling, will never go again!

I come here actually once a week and I’m finally writing a review.I definitely find it worth the money and mussels mania is my favorite appetizer!I suggest trying the Philadelphia roll at least once! It is very good and even someone who doesn’t like sushi agreed they enjoy it as well! :) Philly roll and Oreo mountain shown in pictures.

5 star restuarant located in Calistoga, CA. Sushi Mambo is beyond amazing and the soup that is not on the menu is worth requesting. Recommend going in the middle of the week around 2 PM to avoid crowds. Your palette will be scintillated with dazzling tastes and the food is always fresh. Try the Bento Box if you are unsure what to order.

Try the miso soup, I thought they were all the same till I had it here. All other rolls were excellent, but heads up the lobster roll, forgot the cute name, but it does not have chunks of lobster more of a paste, was still very good, but different from what we had imagined.

I hate to write a bad review but I hope this will help people make informed decisions to dine here or not. In short, if you like authentic Japanese cooking then this place won’t do.The food was most certainly not authentic Japanese cuisine and it’s easy to tell that it wasn’t cooked in the way it’s supposed to (in Japanese cuisine). I had curry rice to go and picture shows the curry soup I got (curry is supposed to be gravy-like texture and flavor but what I got was a diluted bland soup.)Other than that, the place looked nice and the server was great.

I popped in for a late, light meal and the experience was excellent. Sophisticated and friendly, the sushi was tasty, nice selection of wine for a small venue and the background music was excellent. I was so excited to go to Sushi Mambo and have a lovely meal in charming Calistoga, but it wasnt meant to be.This was the worst service I have ever received at any restaurant Ive ever been to. When you walk in, the waitresses ignore you for 5-10 minutes and then finally tell you where you can sit, in a sullen way. As you order, they are extremely rude and give you sassiness and attitude. The food took forever to come out (about an hour) and the waitresses did nothing to communicate or apologize. All of the tables around me were complaining about the wait for their food and were met with rude responses.They also messed up our order and a few tables around us without even an apology.The food was OK but wasnt worth the extremely long wait or rude staff.My suggestion to the business owner....fire your wait staff and start over. Teach them that customer service is one of the most important things in a business or learn this yourself and embrace it. Otherwise, you should just throw in the towel. Ive dined all over the world at the finest restaurants and this was hands down the worst experience I have ever had. Shameful.

I’ve been in the biz a long time and although we were the last ones there, he offered dessert and completed our dining experience. That’s the sign of a pro! Great quality food, at a reasonable price (especially by the standards of sushi and Napa Valley, neither of which are cheap.) We usually do carry-out for convenience, but the inside seating is cozy and nice atmosphere, as well. We dont eat out often, but have had at least 4 or 5 meals and never been disappointed. Favorite dishes have been the Mt. Fuji sashimi and rice bowl, the Fungus Among Us tempura-battered spicy-tuna-stuffed shitake mushrooms, the beef sakiyuki, and the special High Roller and Main Lovester rolls. Im glad we have a place like this nearby!

I am the brother of one of the owners. I live and work on Bainbridge Island, just outside of Seattle. My wife and I are sushi freaks. One of my clients from San Francisco reached out to me to gush about how amazing her experience at Sushi Mambo was. I had shared that we believe a sushi restaurant can be judged by how fresh the Hamachi is and that Sushi Mambo has the best Hamachi weve had. My client is telling all of her San Francisco friends about this gem of a restaurant! I am so proud of my family for seeing over 26 years of success, through the crash in 08, earthquakes, floods and Covid! Only a restaurant with a dedicated, loyal, passionate following could survive, thrive and grow through so much adversity. Jose was born a chef. I remember when he was an apprentice under one of the top sushi chefs in Japantown, SF. He had and has the best fish market connections for the freshest fish, shrimp, scallops and now here he is, the top sushi chef in Napa Valley!

Had dinner here with my wife. The place is a whirlwind of servers racing sushi to patrons. It took a while for anyone to acknowledge we were there. The ceviche is great and the sushi is good. We had creamy scalloped hand rolls and a few other rolls. We sat outside and had a very pleasant conversation with a couple from Italy.

Ok, this place does a lot of maki (rolls) and theyre decent. Fish quality is also good. Nigiri cuts are heavy handed and hard to eat.All this being said, the tempura here is lights out. Like, if it was a tempura restaurant, its an easy five star. The udon is also popular, though I havent had it yet.You should go here. Just order the tempura and maki and go easy on the nigiri.

The service is good, and the decor is decent. The nigiri we had was just OK, but the rolls were really pretty bad. They try to be too creative and put so much stuff on top of the rolls that you can’t get a single slice in your mouth. And the combination of flavors just doesn’t work, at least not in the rolls we ordered. The wine list is also pretty disappointing.

Im giving 4 stars because the food was 5 stars and the service was 2 stars so Im rounding up :) They told me food would be ready in 40 minutes when I placed food order. I showed up 45 minutes after ordering and they told me it wasnt ready (no apology or explanation) and ultimately I got my food 60 minutes after I ordered (and 20 minutes after it was initially promised). But the food was excellent. So they just need to work on customer service, I think if the food is that late, you comp a dish (or at the very least, apologize!)

The shrimpgasm sushi roll was huge! Took three bites to eat each piece. All of the sushi was good and well made. The only thing that ruined the experience was a big white pickup truck idling in front of the restaurant blowing exhaust fumes on us while we sat outside on the patio, but that wasn’t the restaurants fault.

This is a pretty small sushi restaurant. It does feel quaint and cozy in the inside. Staff was understaff, which was understandable. As for the sushi. My husband and I enjoy sushi and is one of our favorite food. This place unfortunately was disappointing. We order two rolls off of their special menu and was super excited for them. The menu did not state that the rolls were going to be deep fried. Because the two rolls we ordered were deep fried, it also cooked the raw fish on top of the roll which caused the fish to cook on the bottom. That was a disappointment. I ordered a sake nigiri and that was alright too. If you really crave sushi and youre in Calistoga, this place is okay.

Very nice customer service, however prices were different than on website (I understand website says prices are subject to change, however $5 per order is a little much to not acknowledge on the website, especially considering it is take out only.) Sushi, unfortunately just wasnt that good either, it was falling apart (seemed to be due to the take out box it was placed in, all of the rice was sticking to it, and peeling off the sushi every time I tried to pick up a piece, maybe parchment paper would help ), and just seemed to be lacking in flavor. I hope, and suspect sushi mambo is usually better than this, however this was my first time trying it, and unfortunately it was disappointing.**EDIT** the owner very nicely refunded our meal, and we hope to try it again in the future, excellent customer service! Best sushi Ive ever had!!! Ive been here often, although not as often since they moved from Napa to Calistoga. Not only is the fish fresh, tender and delicious but these guys are real artists with every plate! Love to sit at the bar and talk to the owners and watch as they create these beautiful works of art. We got two ramens (one pork and one chicken) to go and it wasnt authentic. It actually tasted horrible. The noodles were clumped together and I dont think the noodles are actually the usual ramen noodles. The soup was not flavourful. Pork ramen broth usually has a strong broth taste but this just wasnt it! Sad to say that cup noodles would have tasted better than this $13 ramen..

Ate here on a Friday at 1pm. Miso was amazing but the rolls, although tasted ok, were very loose so hard to grab. All rolls, except tempura rolls were very lacking in presentation. Even though the place wasnt that bussy, the server took the order, gave the check and absent in between.To top it off, place is also pretty wam inside on a hot day. Overall, I think 2 stars is a fare review/assignment.

We were waiting for food for one hour and once it arrived we were not impressed at all.Too much rice on nigiri and rolls. Fish wasnt good cuts and not that fresh. The sushi rolls i ordered all tasted the same. But thats pretty easy when nothing has taste. Its hard to screw up chicken karage, but somehow they managed. No flavor except in the sauce, which had the consistency of tar and the flavor of..... I dont actually think that flavor exists anywhere else so its hard to describe. Overall, service was nothing special, the food I might serve to my dog. Dont waste the money for this.

Rude and belligerentAccording to their web site they are open 7 days per week until 8pm. I called on Tuesday to place a to go order and message came on stating closed Tuesday open every other day till 8:30. ‘ if this call is within business hours, please hang up and call back’. Ok so now it’s Wednesday at 6:30. I place a call and I received the same automated message as Tuesday. I tried calling back several time and nobody picked up. We decided to walk to restaurant to 0lac3 a to go,order. We get there, 2 waitresses are walking back and forth serving others but not once did they say, please wait I’ll be right with you. Finally we approached 1 of the waitresses and stand w3 would like to plac3va to go order. She reply’s back, do you have a reservation? What ? We want to place a to go order. She turns and very rudely says oh you need to wait an hour and walks away! What is going on here! No customer service. I understand we are recovering from a pandemic and businesses just opened up and may be overwhelmed with the work and no help, but you need to be rude and hostile??? Further more update your web site with correct information about days and hours open, also state that you we will not pick up the phone for reservation or to go orders.

It was the only restaurant in the area I genuinely enjoyed. I would hight recommend this place. The rest of the restaurants to me was over price for the poor quality of food. Great food, friendly wait staff, and an intimate dining experience are why this is the Napa Valleys favorite sushi restaurant. Its usually hopping and busy, but the wait times are reasonable even during the dinner rush on weeknights. On weekends, youre better off making reservations, or aiming for an off time, like a late lunch, rather than dinner. Try to deep-fried Oreos! Life-changer.

I would actually give 4.5 stars if map allows.It’s not expensive, $36 for two, lunch, and $44 for two, dinner. We lived in a nearby resort, this place is within walkable distance.Staff is also friendly and helpful. But the food is inconsistent.Dragon rolls(has crab, avocado and eel) is great, five stars!Beef teriyaki don has way too much sauce on it, the beef is pretty bad, too firm and dry.Seafood yosenabi is ok, like four stars, but there’s some kind of fish in it that is too firm, like badly cooked turkey breast.

Were so happy that Sushi Mambo moved up to Calistoga after their downtown location in Napa was destroyed in the 14 quake. This is a really good spot for refreshingly tasty fresh fish. Our favorites include the West Coast roll and the Mambo Chicken salad. Pleasant atmosphere and good value.

My wife and I were the first clients at Sushi Mambo in Napa, 18+ years ago. The Napa Earthquake destroyed the original building and forced a move to Calistoga. The food is excellent. Staff is friendly, owner José is very scrupulous about fish quality and the food is always delicious! Prices are moderate, but much more reasonable than the pretentious sushi now in Napa. Well worth the lovely drive to Calistoga!

Waited 45 minutes for warm subpar sushi. Service was OK. The place is a little hole in the wall, sometimes a hole in the wall place like this can be good, not this place. The rainbow roll we got had just chunks of salmon and tuna on top of a roll with imitation crab. The rice was undercooked and tasted old and hard. Not to mention the sushi chef forgot to cut it into peices, it was basically in 1/4ths.

The sushi is top quality and worth the wait. Have fun reading the menu or talking to the sushi chefs who are two brothers Jose and Francisco. There is something for everyone on the menu! My favorites are the Fungus Amungus, Phoenix, and the Supercalifragilistic! I love something fried, something baked, and something fresh! Of course the nigiri and sashimi are amazing as well! Ask for the fatty tuna!!! A must go to if youre in Napa or Calistoga! Support local business! You wont regret it!

Food is not authentic Japanese by any measure and only decently prepared. The only Japanese person was the waitress? I Ate here twice. Once for sushi and once for ramen. Almost all sushi rolls involved either cream cheese, spicy tuna salad, or crab. Very American options, but maybe they are decent for fusion. I ordered sashimi and it was fresh enough.The pork ramen was light and flavorless, no salt, lots of sesame oil. The small handful of noodles were overcooked. I ordered more and they were also overcooked. Pork was hard boiled and flavorless (not chashu), no soft boiled marinated egg, spinach instead of nori seaweed... still cost $16 for weak soup and soggy noodle.Edit: My wife is Japanese. I live in little Tokyo, L.A. And I have a family vacation house in Tokyo, Japan. Im not sure what owner means by open minded, but lets not redefine authentic Japanese. I would have been less disappointed if I was expecting fusion food although ramen was definitely lacking. Food was fresh and well presented. Many people may like what is offered, but if youre looking for authentic then the menu options are limited. Honest review.

This Chef 0wned/Operated Sushi place is Ichiban!Not your normal sushi place, so dont expect the total Nippon vibe here. Its name is well thought out, because a touch of latin flair adds a unique coda to the menu selection. Sure, the have the standards, but I suggest you try the many of their very inventive maki. all of which Ive tried were delicious.The fish is always top notch, and ask whats on the omakase menu; youre sure to get hold of some local delicacy chef José has found. Once I was there and asked if he could make some umeboshi (japanese salt-pickled apricot) maki and he had just gotten a jar of really good umeboshi from Japan. It was heaven.
