Great sushi and fresh sashimi are offered for reasonable prices. I tried the Ceviche roll that had no rice in it and it was very good. I did not like their way of paying the bill before I got to see the receipt. The receipt was printed optionally after paying. The place is too noisy as well. I dont know, their walls do not absorb the sound, they reflect it. But their sushi is good and worth trying at least to order it to go

Was very pleasantly surprised. It’s in a shopping mall complex and you walk in and the atmosphere is clean and everyone is so friendly and attentive. They get fresh produce and it tastes really good. They have a ton of toll options most of them have a tempura element to it. Definitely will come back.

I was recommended to come to this place and for a first time customer I was disgusted! The woman on the phone had recommended this roll to me and I decided to try it and asked for no cream cheese due to my allergies, I picked up one piece and as soon as I did I noticed there was cream cheese and a surprise to my eyes, there was a long strand of hair IN the roll. Absolutely horrendous!! Never again.

People come back here and rate it 4 or more stars? Why? I ordered the teriyaki “entree” which apparently includes one scoop of white rice a small portion of chicken cut into tiny pieces and maybe 2 ounces of sliced vegetables… and no teriyaki sauce or flavor. I’ve had better teriyaki bowls from a grocery store for $8. Oh yeah this “entree” was $22!!! But it did come with a small house salad with nasty house dressing. Who keeps coming back and paying for this lol. Service at the door was great, greeted with a smile and directed to the counter. 22 dollars… why??? So disappointed when I opened the food container lol. What’s hilarious is the bowl is $2 less for the exact same thing… wonder how much smaller the portion is? Maybe I just ordered the worst item on the menu and nobody knew how to make it because nobody orders it?

Ive tried them all in East County. If youre looking for the best cuts and the freshest fish, look no more. I always ask Chef what he recommends and have never been disappointed. Plenty of cooked options for non-sushi eaters. Rice, noodles, teriyaki etc...It does get a bit loud when its crowded but that happens everywhere.

The food is great but with each visit the service has gotten increasingly worse. With this last visit. me and my wife walk in and are told to sit where ever. When we choice our spot it took a while to get drinks. No one ended up taking our order not sure why. We ended up leaving.

The rolls were awesome, but the service wasnt so great. My friend and I seemed to annoy our waitress with not knowing what we wanted yet. It was our first time there and we werent sure. Then we were forgotten about to order for a while. Then once we got our appetizers, our waitress comes back asking if we want dessert. We commented about eating our rolls first, that we were still waiting on, and she admitted to forgetting about them. She even added that it got busy and she wasnt paying attention. Why would you tell your customers that? It seemed unprofessional and she was kind of rude the whole time.

I got a bento box. The fried rice tasted very funny, and the water tasted dirty. The tempura was ok, but the teriyaki chicken was of poor quality. The service was terrible, a very quiet high schooler who forgot portions of our order and made more than one mistake otherwise. My husband got some mediocre ramen and some coke that was so flat we sent it back. On top of all that it was pretty expensive, $15 for his ramen and $16 for my box. Their sushi might be better but I wont be back to find out.

First time there and the nigiri and handrolls were excellent. You pay a bit more, but its worth it for a place that doesnt overdo the rice to keep costs lower and that has excellent quality fish. I can understand why some of the reviews mention service as a problem (from the servers, not the sushi bar). But sit at the bar, dont be shy about calling over a server when you need one, and youll be fine. They all appear to be high school and college girls, so how much do they really know what theyre doing? If youre looking for amazing service and dont mind mid-grade sushi, go somewhere else.

They forgot to put cream cheese in my PHILLY roll when thats what makes it a Philly roll and I also received the most botched rainbow roll ever with only 1 slice of sushi roll of shrimp in it and avacado botched all over the roll, i grew up coming here and the quality has declined, sorry to write this review but you guys can do better!!! Ive tasted so much better from tabu! If I get food poisoning Im gonna be so mad because the fish tasted a little so fishy too!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in SD county. Fantastic food, reasonable pricing, great staff, owner leading from the front! The fried shrimp appetizer is amazing and a super value. All rolls and salads rock! A trusted place any night.

I have had several problems with Tabu recently even though I have been a customer for over 8 years. Recently service and quality control have dropped.The restaurant used to be packed all the time. Now its semi empty. The good part is that there is now more parking.They need to step up their game like in the old days.

First, the customer service was outstanding! Everyone we encountered was friendly and very attentive. So good in fact, they could teach many other restaurants how to provide good customer service to patrons. The food came out quickly. They were generous with the salad and the dressing was tasty but it was just the basic premixed and bagged salad. The food was just okay but they treated us to a yummy dessert for my sons birthday. Because the service was good, I would return. They were very nice!

Ive been here 2 or 3 times now and the food is delicious. Especially the sushi. The workers there are cool and the waiters can be a slow BUT thats because they are always busy, so I understand. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because last time I came in I ordered the Spicy shrimp ramen bowl. Dont get me wrong, it was straight fire. Super delicious. Great spices. Only downside was the egg was extremely overcooked and the shrimp overcooked as well. Other than that everything else was top notch. Ill be coming back.

Tony is the best head chef / manager / whatever that Ive ever met. I used to always come in here with my ailing grandma and he would go above and beyond to make her laugh and feel welcome. We was crushed when he heard she passed and it was nice to see that she made an impact out in the world.Tony is an amazing chef and found this particular type of truffle oil that makes hamachi sashimi taste so freaking good it melts in your mouth. The fact that there are nearby sushi places that have higher ratings is a joke, as this is the best sushi you can find in East county. The food is absolutely top notch (they buy the best of the best fresh fish they can find) and the staff is nothing short of incredible. The only tiny little gripe I have is that they use horseradish based wasabi instead of the real stuff, but I dont know of any sushi places that do shell out for real wasabi and I doubt regular diners would even be willing to pay for it.If you want good sushi in east county, you cant do better.

Excellent quality sushi, especially if you are vegetarian. Ask the main chef Tony for vegetarian options off the menu, he is quite creative and offers a lot of variations. Lots of options on the menu for fish connoisseurs, and even some other options like teriyaki bowls, if your friends won’t eat sushi.

Today I ordered rolls. Well, they turned out to be very tasty! I really liked the rolls, but I noticed that the guy who made the rolls was not wearing gloves. Also, other chefs were without gloves and they did not have a mask on their nose, but this is not a problem. Please make sure your chefs use gloves to cook, this is very important for hygiene. I had to use cognac for disinfection. for this reason I put two stars

Its not a bad Sushi bar, I no longer eat raw fish after getting food poisoning. Not for me I dont want Parasites in my stomach. I did not get sick from Tabu but there all the same raw is raw. Had the Spicy Shrimp Ramen, it comes with a spicy garlic broth but I couldnt taste the garlic and it was overall watery. The noodles were too firm to my liking. Im unsure if the egg was supposed to be hard boiled but it was HARD BOILED. Shrimp was tough. All this for $13 and its a cheaper dish. There are better and cheaper places.

First off I dont mind paying more for good service but when you screw ups simple order and charge $30dlr more for the same order you get every time and all your told is everything is going up. The sashimi appetizer was just thrown in a Styrofoam box along with a California roll that was messily put together. I judged this place by the pictures and the reviews. Will never order again.

Didnt take a photo at the time since Im not a big online reviewer, but thought other clientele might want to know this. We had the Del Mar Roll, Lemon Cilantro Roll and I had the Eel Hand Roll. All three items were quite delicious. This place is way different compared to the last time i went (pre-Covid).

The service here was chaotic good. I order a hot rod roll and the crispy salmon skin. The crispy salmon skin roll never came and the hot rod was missing many of the key ingredients (no jalapenos or sriracha). I was told the the chefs make it different each time which kind of voids the whole purpose of a menu in my opinion. They brought me the missing ingredients though and after some construction on my part the roll was good and everything tasted fresh. The calamari however, was tough as leather. I wont be coming back, they did do a good job splitting the bill as we requested for our party of 6 though.

The yellowtail was good, but the salmon and tuna had to be tossed as it had a funk to it and was not edible. The gyoza was tasty, but super sad to have had to throw away the fish. Lesson learned.

Good sushi place. I enjoy the quality of their food. The service is good and quite friendly. Parking is fairly easy and they are open later than some other places. My only critique is that the majority of the sushi rolls that they have are nearly identical to one another. There is not a ton of variety in what they offer, despite the numerous menu options. Only slightly different takes on very common ingredients. Still I would highly recommend this place for a good quick bite.

Went here with the husband and enjoyed my sushi rolls and garlic edamame. He ordered the ramen, which honestly did not look appetizing and was sent back before a slightly better version was dropped off at our table. It also had a poached egg cooked all the way through instead of a soft boiled egg, which was weird. I wish I had taken a picture of it... While I wouldnt recommend this place on their ramen, the sushi is very good.

Multiple staff came by to pick up a used napkin, etc. Decent prices and great food. Interesting demographic: wait staff was attractive white women, cook staff was hispanic. Great Japanese food. Ordered food via DoorDash and ordered the Chicken Teriyaki. The portion provided was sooooo small that it wasn’t worth the $9.00 I paid for. The fried calamari was so hot that it burned through the styrofoam it came in. Aren’t styrofoam containers banned???!!! The rolls were mostly stuffed with mayonnaise imitation shredded crab and hardly any salmon, tuna or scallop! This place used to be one of the best sushi places I loved eating, but the quality of food has gone downhill!

Tabu sushi bar is one of my favorites. Im happy we found a great place in east county. I think sitting at the sushi bar is the best spot so you can talk to the chefs. Definitely try the kai roll (no rice, wrapped in cucumber) and the lemon cilantro. I like to start with a 3-3-3 sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail) and some hot sake.

Outstanding sashimi off the chefs specials list. Toro & scallops amazing. Salmon belly & red snapper also delicious. Requested yellowtail with fresh sliced habanero on top for the finisher. So happy. Sometimes ridiculously long waits, sometimes just long waits, sometimes notably small rolls, sometimes missing wasabi and gari, sometimes sub-prime fish.... Japanese food with a hot twist. We have eaten here for several years and their sushi and dinners are quite good. Their specialty, or at least something they do well is sushi tacos and burritos. If you sit at the bar they are happy to make special sushi for you. The full dinners are big and reasonable. Tables are small. Ambiance is only fair. Noisy. If you get here by 6 you will find room. Later than that, maybe not.

Got there at 6pm and left at 7 we ordered 6 rolls and a noodle dish, the only thing we recieved the entire time was dry noodles with barley any chicken no one approached to apologize about the wait we asked the waitress how much longer after waiting an hour she says 15 minutes I will say She wasnt rude about it until questioned why it took so long she says there backed up there was 3 other 2 people groups besides us so not sure what was backed up then there was 2 younger waitress that were speaking to 2 customers and wow talk about migraine she never stopped and was louder then everyone eating this was the worst experience ever no customer service and horrible service, and I forgot to mention that the waitress and chef had words about us that Im not sure if they think we couldnt hear being only 6 or 7 feet away but They were wrong

I call it the fast food place of sushi. I hardly eat there and I work right near the place. Sushi is my favorite thing in the world and my friends and i have eaten at many places all over San Diego. Eel is one of my favorites and so I orderd the sweet thing roll the last time I went. It has eel and shrimp tempura in it and It did not taste fresh at all. The eel was not firm but mushy and the tempura shrimp inside had no crunch to it. My friend said she thinks she saw them take it out plastic wrap which would explain why something with tempura shrimp was prepared so fast and tasted soggy. The priceys are way to high for the quality and sizes. I use to get the Teriyaki bowl once in awhile but even those have gone up in price. theyre not worth the amounts of meat to rice ratio now. I say the only people who really enjoy this sushi are people who dont eat sushi often.

I walk in and they have a sign please wait to be seated so i wait... And wait until someone finally asks if im picking up... Only then do i say no... Im waiting to be seated. I finally am able to choose my seat... So i choose next to the wall and notice a few small fruit flies flying around, so i shoo them away and sit down. I order and the moment my food comes more start to encircle my table trying to attack my food. I again shoo them away and turn around only to realize upon further inspection the wall is covered with small fruit flies!!! The enture time none of the people that work there seam to care one bit about this unsanitary and and annoying presence. I only ordered the beef bento box, which was pretty good, the beef was a bit dry, but it was overall pretty good. I cant stand eating in such disgusting conditions... I will unlikely return because of it.
