Been visiting tofu house for years. Their tofu soup and stone bowl dishes are great.Tried the fried tofu and mushroom dish for the first time tonight and it was delicious.But... The prices have continued to increase to the point that I no longer feel like the value matches the quality/service. Prices have increased 35% since 2020.

Never had the hot stone dishes before this and let me tell you they were HOT. The rice on the bottom of the bowl continues to cook as you eat and get SUPER crispy. I got the tofu bowl which was seasoned well. They give you a bunch of eggs that you can crack to put into your hot stone bowl to cook them. Lots of little dishes before which were nice. This place was hopping on a Wednesday. The plaza that it’s in is all food establishments so the parking here gets crazy busy at night.

We were seated quickly, and as soon as we sat down, they gave us banchans. That was a nice surprise as the kids were really hungry when we arrived. We got Combo B1 (bulgogi and chef special tofu stew - they said meat is the same size as the entree but the tofu stew is smaller than the regular portion tofu stew), crispy fried dumplings, japchae, and another regular order of chef special tofu stew. Everything was tasty and the portions were large. We had way too much food for 2 adults and 2 kids. They charge 50 cents for a bottle of water but at least they inform you ahead of time. Service was fast and courteous. Credit cards accepted. Parking lot can get very busy. Overall, this is quite a gem.

Had a great dinner there. There were not a lot of people. They were very efficient. Got our food served within 10min. I had the seafood special soup. Very delicious. Only that the portion is too small. I like the complimentary appetizers. They also gave us raw eggs to put in the soup. The pot is so hot that it can half cook the eggs.

Food is solid and value is good. The ambiance and service need work though. Eg I’m not really trying to listen to top 40 pop while eating. If you’re going to play pop, at least K-Pop would be more on brand.Service wise, they didn’t have hot water available, only cold water or hot tea.

1. I love crispy rice, but not plain black burnt rice. I showed the waiter that most rice are black burnt and asked for a change.2. The replacement of my Bulgogi, they added water to my rice and gave only 1/3 of the rice amount. My rice was wet. I showed it to the waiter, and he tries to convince me that this is how it is. (I had Bulgogi more than 50 times in my life, I told him this is not the right amount of rice). And so he gave me a bowl of rice and charged me for it. He looked at me like Im a bad customer.:( I’m here to enjoy food not looking for a bad experience….

Not very crowded on a weekend. Compared to The Fire Spot, I would rather going to the Fire Spot but unfortunately that place has a super long wait-list...This place offers hot stone fried rice, tofu soups, combo with meat and soup. We ordered combo #1 and Fried rice meat party. The picture is deceptive for combo #1 as it is just short ribs with a mini bowl of seafood soup. The fried rice meat party was okay with the portion.The service is not good. The plates are very hot but they were not careful and it almost touched our phone on the table. They also wanted take away dish that was not done for us. The bottled water is from Costco but there was no upfront reminder that the water is not free. This came as a surprise to us.The side dishes are complimentary and you can order more, which is nice.

The pictures say it all. The food is burnt to cancer level. The dish look dirty, crack on it and you have to pay for the water, they dont even tell you up front about the water. the cashier/manager is not friendly at all, keep looking his phone while we raised hand to get help.The hotpot doesnt look like the picture, tiny and more tofu than seafood.Tofu house used to be my favorite but for $17, a overcook and burn dish is definitely as a statement I dont care what customer think attitude.Btw, they dont have a print out receipt but still a hand writing receipt, no idea how calculate the cost and tax. If they miscalculate your bill, (very likely), who knows.Not recommend it.Btw, look at the other reivew two weeks before me, same bad experience.

A friend recommended this spot for lunch. We were greeted and seated rather quickly. I ordered the tofu soup and my friend had bulgogi rice. It was absolutely delicious. The broth was so flavorful and the soft tofu held so much flavor from the broth. I also appreciate how the side dishes were filled when we finished them. I’ll most likely be back again.

Want to leave before we order any food . The server makes us feel very uncomfortable. But he bring side dishes. Dont want to be rude so we stay. Side dish look dry and already eaten... We still continue with our adventure because this plaza is so hard to find parking. Food was not as good as expected. Will not come again.

I LOVE their seafood combo tofu soup. My friend got their dumplings tofu soup. Either way - order a tofu soup! Their bon chon are always great, I love their radish. They also provide a raw egg if you want to add it to your dish as well. Their portions are very sufficient and priced well. Highly recommend.

This place is okay. Not good, but not bad. Their best quality is that the food is very hot (temperature wise). The food did taste somewhat “off” - like they used the wrong or no seasonings. There are restaurants I would come back to… this is not one of them.

I heard they changed ownership and is back to being good and can confirm it is back to being good.Chefs special soup: 9/10. I got it spicy and i could use a little more heat. I like things on the salty side so i might be biased that it needed a bit more salt. Plenty of seafood in the soup. Solid. It is very hot coming out so let it cool down. Also, if you want your egg runny, drop it in after it cools a little or its going to cook or get mixed in.Various pickles: 10/10 every meal opens up with various pickles. Spot on although the kim chi itself is my least favorite.Service 10/10. Quick and friendly. I prefer to have my bill immediately so i can pay and not have to wait. They brought out the bill once the meal was served which i 100% appreciated, but i think some might find this odd.Atmosphere: 7/10. Nice. It is smokey when they are cooking so they could probably use a new vent. I did notice a giant AC as an ok partial solution.Price: $$ standard pricing. $20 after tip per person.

We originally planned to eat at the korean restaurant across the parking lot but the wait time was too long. We opted for Tofu House and we were happy we did. No wait time, the dining area space and decor was much larger, but most importantly the food tasted delicious. We were hungry the combos made the perfect pick. I went with the galbi and soft tofu soup. Add on the korean pancake appetizer and we walked out full and happy. Will be back.

Would have been nice if they told us they would give us water bottles instead of water in a glass and charge us. I would not have ordered a green tea if I knew it was gonna come in a bottle. They did not give an itemized breakdown and they applied a service fee although the service was average. Server didn’t really have a personality and didn’t make the experience anything above average. We were a party of 7 so I guess that’s why. The food was good. I got the number 3 bul go gi with glass noodles. The beef and broth was very flavorful. Some of my friends who got the hot stone dish were met with burnt rice at the bottom of the dish. Would not come back again.

One of the best Korean restaurants Ive tried in the U.S. Located in a small shopping center which makes parking difficult but is definitely worth it. All of the dishes are of the same quality as the ones Ive had in Korea. Definitely recommend their soon tofu soups.

Ill admit, I was thrown by the name and thought this was a vegetarian establishment. That is not true and many dishes dont even have tofu (although the tofu in my soup was excellent). The thing that sets this restaurant apart is the hot stone bowls that continue to cook your food. You can let the rice get as crispy as you like and even crack an egg right onto your meal!

Seated pretty quickly and it wasn’t busy busy. We ordered the Bibimbap on a regular bowl with no meat and Kimchi Soft Tofu Stew. We also ordered a Kimchi Pancake which was pretty solid. Overall it was a solid place, sides were nice and the main dishes were solid as well.

Rode in from Northern California starving. Our party of two was exhausted and needed fuel ASAP.It was absurd how fast we got our food. As soon as we got to the front door, I blinked and I had a hot stone bowl steaming in front of me. I got the crispy rice meat party and I can definitely recommend it.The server had a sixth sense in when we needed to re-up on our sides. Every time I grabbed the last piece of daikon from the bowl, this guy would pop up beside me and say, CAN I GET YOU MORE OF ANYTHING?All in all, a great experience. Been a long time regular. The food is excellent I do love the ambience and it is very crowded so if you are not comfortable sitting literally next to someone on each side of you this probably isn’t the restaurant for you. Excellent value the staff is efficient it’s a great place to get a good meal and get in and out for a reasonable price.

Seriously SOOOO good. Even if the wait is long they bring the food out fairly fast. The food is so flavorful and the kimchee is delicious. The menus is simple and easy to understand. Everything I have ordered has been delicious. The only con is the customer service. They are constantly trying to avoid you unless you are ordering or paying. I always have to ask multiple times for water/anything and they ALWAYS forget or pretend they cant see/hear me when they are right in front of me. But the food is so good, Ill come back even though customer service sucks.

I rate this restaurant a zero star because of the food. It doesn’t look like a real Korean restaurant. I have spoken in Korean to the worker and they’re not Korean. They are Chinese people. It explains why the food tasted blend and the soup was not what I expected. MSG was in the food for sure. Japchae noodle were so greasy and they’re not supposed to be that oily. 맛이 없어요. I know the difference between my Korean food. The only thing that is good to eat is the kimchi cucumber (김치 오이). Overall, zero star. One restaurant I will never come back to eat in San Diego.

They used to be super fast woth orders, have eggs for free on the tables have free juice at the front, free water and everything. The quality has gone down consistently each time. Great little spot for a quick soup and rice meal. Very tasty, never had a bad meal. The pace of service is very fast, so much so that newcomers might feel rushed, but their service model is based around very fast food delivery and order processing. Fairly price and one of our favorites.One other thing that could bother some is the fact that the dining room can get a little smoky at times from the crispy rice... If a lot of people order it at the same time and the doors are closed it can build up pretty fast. But Id say its part of the experience 👍

I would’ve expected much better for somewhere so close to LA! Rating context - obviously this is not Park BBQ, but my rating is relative to say a Hodori in LA’s K-town. Meal started off promising with a tasty kimchi banchan. I got the #1 combo with LA galbi and the chef’s special seafood soondubu. The galbi was burnt and lacked any of the sweetness or sauce profile expected of galbi. Also not a big quantity. The soondubu also lacked any flavor. No depth, hardly any flavor. Also not cheap - the combo was $28 plus tax & tip. Quantity and quality for price were very low. You’re probably better served spending a bit more next door at the AYCE Korean BBQ for $32. They also don’t provide tap water!! Have to pay for bottled water!! Who does that?! Apparently San Diego Korean places. SMH.

Unfortunately they no longer do free beverages, they charge for bottled water with no option of tap water, and they only give one small egg per dish now, all this in addition to the prices going up a lot from my last visit a few years ago. Id understand if the prices jumped 20% to give the same experience but when the experience is 20% lower while the price is 20% higher, the math doesnt work out for me. Food is still a novelty and comes out quick, but it feels overpriced now for the amount of meat and veggies you get which is honestly very small. The price made sense when i could add 3+ eggs to my dish to have enough protein but the ground chicken this time was maybe 3oz or so on a $16 dish?? Thats not a good deal imo. Worth a single novelty visit but not worth coming back again to me.

Good food and fast service, I especially like the Seafood 🦞 fried rice & I asked them to hold the octopus 🐙 . You get free mini appetizers dipped in their sauces....The interior is set to have you eat and get out, NOT to hang out too long or bring a date to impress. Seating and tables are picnic style, very basic. The seats are not that comfortable and you feel a little claustrophobic because there’s not much elbow room. Parking is difficult at times but manageable. Overall the food is Tasty and worth the trip 🚙

I have mixed feelings about the Tofu House. The staff is friendly. The menu was rather limited. My girlfriends soup bowl (which they heat in an oven) cracked and the bottom fell off and she couldnt finish her dish. We asked for a credit. Our waiter offered us $2 off of a $15 dish. I said you should make it $5 off. The waiter said Oh we cant do that. Seriously? They should have comped the entire meal. Another issue was the lack of proteins in their dishes. Seafood tofu dish came with two shrimps and small quantities of the other seafoods. My meat party rice dish came with two tiny pieces of korean-style flank steak and small quantities of other proteins. Much more rice than protein. I jokingly said to my girlfriend that they have to make a profit.

Fish cakes smell like it has been in refrigerator with open lid for a month. I also noticed kimchi sauce on newly served fish cake. It is highly possible that they reuse leftover.They don’t know the proper temperature for hot stone. Due to its extremely hot temperature, the restaurant is filled with smoke.Server is also terrible. To rush us to eat fast and leave, he serves check with foods.

1. Waitress took forever in an empty restaurant, brought no water, and had food on her face. 2. Brought my hot stone before anyone else got food and didnt tell me if I didnt mix it would be ruined(why is cooked rice placed on a broiling hot stone beneath raw food??). Pardon me but if my dish will be ruined without my intercession I feel you should at least say something about it. I was waiting for the others dishes. 3. Put rice on the bottom of my dish instead of the side, for it to be ruined. 4. Extremely rude staff. Refused to address the table. Blamed me for dish, refused to remove ruined food from table. We were seated and immediately the manager scolds the lady who seated us for seating us too quickly. He was very obviously in a rush the whole meal, and immediately placed the check on our table before we even began eating. He didnt tell us we would be charged for the water, which we would assume would be free. The Galbi House Special was 26 dollars and had mostly bones and hardly any meat. I will not be returning here.

Went here over 5 times in the first two weeks of discovering it. The flavors are exceptional. Service is super quick. Great value for money. During the pandemic - outdoor dining is good for dinner, can be scorching hot for lunch! Im vegetarian and they have amazing vegetarian options. I highly recommend both the boiled tofu soups and hot stone fried rice dishes! The hot corn tea is also nice!

This is the best Korean food I have had in San Diego. Many people complain about the parking, yet, that is not the establishments fault. The food was great and came out 3-5 minutes after ordering. Very disappointed! Was Dine in with my friend and ordered two chef special tofu soups for to go with extra noodles. They charged extra $2 each. We didn’t order extra noodles for every item. The receipt is not clear to read. Only can see total amount. Seem like every order they charged extra. When I asked, the waiter (a cambodian guy)and another waitress lady (not friendly) we’re not patient to answer and argued. Water is not free. There is no noodle in the two to go boxes when we got home and checked. Cheat and lied to customers! Taking advantages from customers with unclear receipt. This restaurant is not like before. Bad experience today at Convoy location. My side dishes seemed skimpy and like they’ve been sitting out for too long, not fresh at all and I came near opening time! The sliced fish cake was a bit hard and chewy from being so dry and sitting out. The cucumbers weren’t cold and didn’t seem fresh at all, wilted. Kim chi didn’t seem fresh either, I was a bit grossed out. I got the vegetarian tofu soup (spicy), not a lot of vegetables at all, in fact maybe a piece or two of Napa cabbage and only one shiitake mushroom? I haven’t been able to sleep my stomach is all in knots and hurting as if I ate something bad and I believe it’s from my lunch today. That’s the only thing I ate today outside of my usual norm, and I was thinking of the side dishes that I had today which seemed old, dry and not fresh. Didn’t seem clean either, walking in. If you ask for water they will give you a Costco Kirkland bottle and charge you as well, so be aware.

I barely post things! But I just can not stand this place at all. This is my first time and will be my last time to eat there! It literally wastes my money and time and ruined my mood! You would like to spend that not somewhere else! They literally microwave everything for you, food just take 1 minute after ordering. It comes with half cold half hot, half burned!!!! I ordered a bibimbap and it came with just meat and bean sprouts??? Every single bibimbap I’ve ever had in my life, even one’s from other locations of this restaurant, has come with vegetables like carrots and spinach. Also the bowl was so hot it burnt my rice before I even had the chance to mix it, and it was also half filled compared to other orders I saw. ALSO, I asked for water and they gave me a plastic bottle and charged me for it, without asking first. Very skeevy. Would not recommend it at all

That makes for a nice meal and well worth the wait.The servers inside are very friendly and the owner (or manager) makes sure he comes around and talks to each table. That makes the experience personal and intimate.I have some dietary needs and am still able to enjoy food here, which believe me I consider a blessing. My GO-TO place for tofu soup! I am not Korean and dont consider myself Korean-food connoisseur but Im sure this place is top-notch despite my non-acute tongue for Korean food.I dont remember when I fell in love with this place or their delicious hot soups in their fiery stone bowls but I know that my love for this place will never vanish. The soups are robust with flavor, have alot of heat in them when I request a 10 for spiciness, and their brown rice that goes with it is always sticky and soft and perfectly cooked. Loved how I could customize my boiled tofu hot pot. And they are happy to make it any way you want it. I walked in for the first time and asked a ton of questions to understand the menu. They were very patient and when I realized they were happy to accomodate all preferences (including no tofu) they had won me over. This place has been slipping for the last decade... I worry about proper holding temperature for some of their foods, though the place is cold and drafty. The acoustics are a little challenging-- with their tile floor, and all the glass. lately they have frequently mix up the spice level between our tables meals.
