The raw oysters were delicious, but pricey. The tempura was 8/10. The fried chicken wings were also pricey ($9 for 4 tiny wings) but they were very good, as well. The yakitori was average. Unfortunately, while our server was very nice, she couldnt speak one word of English, so we could almost not communicate at all. I noticed some discrepancy on the bill that may have been a completely innocent mistake, but I couldnt even figure out how to bring it up and decided to just let it slide. We probably wont be back anytime soon but again, the food was good.

Visiting Oakland area on a business trip. Glad to find this gem sushi restaurant. All the food I had was great! Raw oysters, nirgiri (forgot to get pics but I had 6 pieces - 4 yellow tuna and 2 recommended by owner forgot what it was), and lobster roll. Service was fine.

My friends and I were super hungry and were walking around when we came across this place. We thought why not and decided to give it a try. It’s a small sushi place and the service is super friendly. It was around 8:30PM and not very crowded. We ordered the nabeyaki udon, badass roll, oshinko maki, and the dragon roll. The udon was pretty good, the noodles weren’t too soft and the soup was pretty flavorful. The badass roll was really good and would definitely come back to get it. The oshinko was unexpected but expected, they didn’t specify what type of pickle was in there. The dragon roll was pretty good, they stuffed it. Everything was very filling and tasty. At the end, they gave us a digestif at the end that came with oranges. It was a nice surprise and delicious way to end the meal!

The older man server was very rude to us, and messed up our food orders. Im fairly certain my friend and I will never go back to this restaurant.

An experience that was an immeasurable disappointment. The sashimi platter was low quality; the fish texture was slimy and not fresh. The rice in the rolls was not sticky enough to hold the tuna or avocado in place. Its a safer bet to have the fried rolls as anything regarding fresh fish is not recommended. I wish I had pictures of the misshapen rolls to show as an example.

As a customer since it’s inception in 1997, my wife and I have been enjoying great food and service. Not until recently when I was refused to be served a pot of hot tea even after I’ve told the female server to add to my bill the price of the tea pot. I’ve nothing against food or mgt, just making a statement of my unpleasantness for one of the Tsuru Sushi server. Thanks for listening.

Tsuru Sushi, located in E-14th St., San Leandro, California, seats about 45-49 people on a good day. So hubby & I decided to try another Japanese place just for the helluvit. Ta-dah: Tsuru Sushi! For appetizers, we had savory grilled oysters & xiu mai. Hubby then ordered his usual salmon teriyaki while I ordered chirashi (mixed sashimi, miso soup, salad, & sushi rice). Honestly, I liked the fresher & bigger sashimi portions at Angry Fish better, which could be had at a lower price, too. Service was listless & inattentive. Piped-in music was a great mood-setter. Overall impact: OK, but needs improvement.

Awesome oysters, need to figure out how they make the oysters. I really liked the shaggy tempura really good.
