This is kind of an out of the way spot which is taking over an old pho restaurant.I flew in late to Oakland airport, I need something warm and homey. Frankly, I was itching for a good ramen. Having lived in the Bay Area many years, I knew I could find something like that. This place wasnt too far off of my path, and it was late and they were still open.Walking in the place is fairly unassuming, yet there is still some customers there. Almost that closing. I asked quickly if it was too late to grab a ramen, the kind gal could be said please have a seat.Looking around, I saw several tables that were covered with dirty dishes and uneaten food. Well that wasnt necessarily a great first impression, at least they had a good rush.Sitting down I received a menu, and a glass of cold water.Looking at the menu there was a variety of ramens to choose from, and so I went to my go-to Tonkotsu. Almost nothing better than a Tonkotsu with Chashu late at night. Done that many times after hours in Tokyo.Anyway I had to add Gyoza as a side to complete it.First come out the gyoza, and their fried on all sides. That is not my first choice, and this is very common when prepared by non-Japanese. I bit in, and while decent, they were not great. But the Ramen came out, and I was very excited. It smelled right, the broth was piping hot, and there was several good pieces of Chashu.First, I sip the broth. It was good and hot. Second, I slurped the noodles, they are firm, warm, and perfect flavor. I grab a little sneak bite of a Chashu, Its warm, nice savory flavor, and a good thick piece. Im pleased. I dive in. Before I knew it the ramen was gone, Gyoza, pretty much gone, and I was very full. The broth was nice and hardy, with a savory thick flavor, and simply it was a calming experience before hitting the hotel. For me my final question is always would I go back? The answer is a definite yes. Though I probably would not get the gyoza. But if youre looking for a good ramen, I recommend.
Kigawa Bistro
2108 Marina Blvd, San Leandro, CA 94577, United States
Under-rated japanese restaurant. This is your close to home cooking type of food. You would wish you could have it every day.As many have highlighted, the ambiance is great! The color scheme is easy on the eyes. There are plenty of decor to keep your mind occupied while you wait for food. The main dining area can roughly occupy 30 max. Thats smaller than most sushi restaurants. Luckily, they have an outdoor dining option that started at the height of covid. My first visit here was because my wife and I really needed quality time outside of the house at that time, and they were able to provide that experience. The impromptu outdoor patio still looks like in need of improvement, but it kept them going through the hardest part of covid. And Im glad theyre still around.Fried dishes are crisp. Raw fish have their distinct taste individually and do not just taste fishy. The unagi don came with a sunny-side up fried egg, sweetened by the unagi sauce, and also seasoned with furikake. The Sashimi 15-piece they served us came in a decorative stand and had a bonsai tree with it. Much more impressive than a sushi boat or any plate.Of the times visited, Ive been surprised by their foods taste and quality. I would definitely recommend coming here. But dont crowd or flock. Parking is very limited and is relative to their capacity.Enjoy!

Rock & Roll Sushi

I live in the neighborhood of this restaurant less then 5 mins away and have been coming here since they opened. I have ordered many times for dinner and many times for lunch and they have always been great. During Covid-19 they have taken necessary precautions for the communities health which I can appreciate, but what I cant appreciate is them using Covid-19 as a means to benefit them. When you call in to order they force you to give your credit or debit card information over the phone to complete your order, so whether your food is great or not.. you have already paid.I have gone along with it, because hey its Covid-19 BUT what ive never been told once on the phone is because of Covid-19 we will not do any refunds That would be nice to know if I am giving you my money before even seeing the food. As I said before usually the food has been great, however I ordered Chicken Karage yesterday for lunch and it was the first time I have experience Gray Fried Chicken. I went home called and said hello, my Chicken Karage is Gray and I am sending my mother down to return it for another batch, I was immediately met with resistance from the order taker and he said it was not grey and he didnt know what I was talking about.Long story short I went back and there myself personally and ended up in a large argument because I demanded a refund, however they would not give it back to me for their gray fried chicken. The order taker took the extra step to go behind a divider that was not see through and grabbed a hidden sign saying we dont take refunds do to covid-19. They hide the sign so customers cant see it, and they argue with customers if they are not happy with the food and say its your problem not ours.In closing I think its important for this restaurant to realize how many small businesses have closed down because they didnt get the support needed or better yet could not have with the type of business they have. This business seems to think that we need them more then they need us and they dont appreciate their customers business, you can tell over the phone how they force you to give your money before even seeing the product and dont mention they dont do refunds. I will NEVER be going back to this restaurant and really could care less about them as a business because I was so offended how I was treated. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.If you skip to the end, dont get the Chicken Karage, it is grey and soggy and thats just how they make it. And by the way after about 10-15 mins of arguing a man came from inside the restaurant and spoke to the order taker I was arguing with in another language and told him to give me my refund. So they can give refunds, they just choose not to and also choose not to take accountability for their food.

A small money and pop Japanese restaurant. Serves the standard fare. The miso soup tastes good, and the Deluxe Bento meal is a really good deal.
Minami Sushi

An underrated Japanese Food.. As a Japanese Food lover myself, I kind of set a low expectation coming here.. Since Ive been to plethora Japanese restaurant, its kinda hard to get impressed.. But to my surprise, the food served here is definitely top notch, especially their excessive option of sushi rolls (must try), with most of them looks very interesting.. Ive tried their sushi rolls (5 of 5), chirashi don (4 of 5), and teriyaki chicken (5 of 5).. If you come by yourself, I would suggest to choose the sushi rolls, ask for recommendation if you are not sure, they are very polite, as expected of Japanese people (yes they have real Japanese people there)
Bonchon
1275 Washington Ave, San Leandro, CA 94577, United States
I have not had Bonchon before but the other day I had a severe craving for some Korean food and decided to ultimately give the place a try. I tried all 3 varieties of chicken, and a few different dishes which include the japchae, bulgogi, and pork buns. For starters the staff here is so awesome and friendly, they were incredibly inviting and let me know about their dining room opening back up as restrictions are lifting. The area around the restaurant is a bit interesting in its own way, but I will certainly have to come visit again some day soon.Chicken- huge portions, full wing, and fried to crispy perfection. I love all the chicken here and I think when you compare the size and price to your other chicken spots, this place takes the mark. The japchae was classic and delicious, but I do wish I got a bit more out of my experience with the pork buns and bulgogi. The pork buns are so tasty and could do with a bit more pork belly, probably a thicker cut would be great. I felt like after two bites it was all gone and what was left was a bit of slaw and the bun! Though, please know that does not discount the flavor which is perfect, just wanted a bit more. The bulgogi flavor reminded me closer to kalbi or maybe even gyudon, which is a bit lighter in its sweetness. As well (this is due to takeout and not being able to serve on a sizzling plate) but the bulgogi was missing that smoky, caramelized finish you get on the sauce. I ended up tossing the it in my wok and stirring it up until the juices had fully cooked down and the meat was beginning to char- at that point it was perfect!Anyway, I much enjoyed my first visit here. There are some things I would fix a bit from my perspective, but the one trouble I have when ordering at Korean restaurants is wanting a bit of everything while all the dishes are prized for groups of people or parties. Fortunate enough, I can get some Korean fixings at Bonchon for a reasonable price that goes well for 1 or 2 people to eat. Thanks for good experience I will certainly try again in the future!
Sushi Go Go

Excellent service! Amazing staff and top quality sushi! At first I was kind of curious about a sushi restaurant at that was located next to a 76 gas station.. but wow I must say I was shocked! There sushi is made fresh as soon as it is ordered! You can walk in and order. You can call into and order and you also can order through grub hub, eat 24, etc; they have amazing prices on there sushi. It is pretty cheap for the quality sushi they make! It’s like eating at a five star Japanese restaurant but the prices of a fast food restaurant Lol. I definitely recommend this place if your looking for great quality sushi! Very clean and friendly staff. When you walk in your sushi is made fresh and very quickly and will be in and out within minutes depending on what you order. They sell individual rolls and also party trays for a very very good price! So I recommend it! I would give it ten stars if I could! Sushi go go is a must!
