Worst sushi(and ramen/ fried tofu) I have ever eaten. I tried Japanese food almost every I go cause I like it. When I saw the pictures here, I thought it would be good. However, the ramen was just like the instant noodle; the fried tofu was only fried outside while the inside was just “tofu” no flavor; oh the sushi I have to say the sushi is so awful. As u can see in the picture, they are not well-made. The rice is over-cooked, the fish is not fresh. Just like some reviews had mentioned, they are like being frozen in the fridge for a couple of days and when needed, they are carried out and made it after microwaving. Anyway, I would not recommend anyone to this restaurant.
Ventured out Friday for dine-in adventure for sushi at Yamas. The menu was extensive and the server was helpful. The fried tofu appetizer was average as was the miso soup. The bento box had plenty of teriyaki chicken and California rolls. The rolls were underwhelming, the salad was fresh with a nice dressing. Our other dish included the Green Peace rolls and Spicy Tuna rolls which were average for taste but a good size.
The best thing we ordered here was our cokes. The tempura has way to much bread and the shrimps are little like cocktail. The seafood was fresh.
I really enjoyed the foods and the service with my mom on her birthday along with my nephews and my sister in law and her boyfriend

I feel like the rolls are somewhat loose; I always have one or two that fall apart on me. However, they still taste good and worth the cheap prices. The roll portions are average, but the sashimi portions are fairly big. I think the sashimi is only available for lunch, I couldnt find it on the dinner menu.All in all, I think its a great place (came back to back days!)
Nice cozy spot. Went 13 years ago when I lived there and had a chance to return to Monterey try it again. They did not disappoint. The menu was improved, presentation was great and the flavour of every item I got was amazing.Id suggest it to anyone that finds themselves in Monterey, CA.

Food is great just the service was not what we expected. One of the employees there was being very odd and continued to ignore my mom and I. This older lady constantly went to every table asking if everything was ok if anyone needed anything but every single time she would skip my mother and I. At first we thought we were just imagining things but then when she finally approached us, it was to give us the bill. The lady quickly put the check on the very edge of the table causing it to almost fall on my mom and the lady just immediately stormed off. We finally got up to pay and the lady just snatched the bill from me and was avoiding all eye contact and when I asked her a question she completely ignored me and left. I don’t know why this lady was being so rude to my mom and I. We did notice we were the only ones there that were not white or Asian and were the only ones speaking Spanish at times. Like I said, the food is good but if you want to be feel discriminated for not being Asian or White, this is definitely the place to go.

Came at 2:15pm, saw a sign on the door that the restaurant will be closed until 2:05pm, but the door was still closed. After waiting 10-15 minutes one of the staff told me that they will be closed until 05:00 pm. Bad service.
Absolutely delicious & no matter what you order you wont be disappointed. My daughter loves the sushi, and as it being my first time with the rest of our family we ordered this marinated beef dish called cheese bugousi (has no cheese on it, lol), chicken fried rice, and my son got the pork Ramen, and everything was absolutely amazing. Plenty of meat quite the opposite of most other restaurants where the rice is your main filler. Not here. And the prices were very reasonable. I cant wait to go back. Id give it 10+ stars 🌟 if I could. And our waitress was super attentive. The outdoor seating was nice, but if you go a little after 6pm Id recommend bringing a jacket, because you may get chilly. The sushi restaurant three steps ahead. Best service from any sushi restaurant Ive seen on the peninsula. Not going to hesitate and talk about the original names for roles, the lunch specials and the timing of beginning the festivities. This place is good for big groups, or independent young people. Really enjoy coming there

Prices are great. Military friendly. Able to get seats very quickly on a Friday night. Strange critique - the sushi rolls are too big. They literally fall apart from the weight. Thought the tempura was good. The staff couldnt say what kind of raw oysters were being served. If you dont know where the oysters come from, you probably should not be serving them. Just saying. The place is a bit chaotic. Had to ask multiple times for utensils, glasses, napkins, etc.
The sushi is the only good thing about this place. Its not terribly expensive, and has always been fresh when Ive ordered it. However, the service is downright sub-par: glasses run empty, 10 minutes before even taking an order, and never checking on us after food was delivered. The place had maybe half of the other tables occupied, and three total servers. The chicken katsu seemed it had been sitting under a warmer for 10 minutes. Only go here for sushi, and only if you dont mind waiting for mediocre service.
So Gross 🤮 please do not eat Ramen here it is not good! Pork was so dry like sand paper and it’s not Cashu Pork! Noodles are not same as other ramen! Would not recommend do not go! Staff was okay but didn’t speak much English was very hard to communicate and She was very short with us. Not an inviting atmosphere they sat us by the door felt strange and mono tone.
Ill be making this place a regular spot for last minute eats. Its a very unassuming shop front, but the food speaks for itself. Staff is more than helpful. Prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous.
For a person that cant for about three weeks, it hurt to just drink their good soup. There food is amazing. I had surgery and wanted some of their amazing broth. They gave me a free bowel of broth and I will be back again. Very nice place to enjoy large portion of wonderful sushi. I had to come and drink their soup because it has always been the best. You have to eat not some rolls but a little undon soup. I dreamt about it in the hospital. They have really good menu that says we have to keep coming back. Thank you for the free soup and I say keep it up...
We love Yama Sushi and usually come 3 times a month. Its a little more expensive than the other fast options available but isnt that what you pay for? A sit down experience with fresh food that has real ingredients in it? We always get the Bento boxes with include miso soup, 2 or 3 entree options, salad, and a rice bowl. Quality food with a reasonable price.

Ive loved Yama Sushi Bar for a while. Today, our service was not as great as usual. I asked for the salad with tiny squid or baby octopus, but got one with shrimp.My husband ordered the sushi, but we were served sashimi, which was quickly remedied. The food was delicious, as usual. I hope that our next visit is better.
Since going the first time about two months ago Ive been twice more. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. The food choices are more than an eye full and the food is fantastic. I have several people coming into town over the summer and Ill be looking forward to taking each to Yama for a meal. Five stars, every day, all day!!

Great place! I came in 20 min before closing and they were as pleasant and nice as if I was the 1st customer on opening day. The hostess was especially attentive and gracious. Nigiri was fresh and perfect. Had the B52 roll, Im no lover of sauces, but this was fantastic! Will be back again tomorrow for sure.
Ok quality. If they can improve the quality of soya source and give customers a little more, it could have been much better!It doesnt cost much to improve this, but it could have a huge change of the flavor of the expensive sushi.The quality of the rice is not good either.I wont go back.

Good food but horrible service, I look online to see what they have and online it says rolls 50% but when we got there. Their was a sign that said menu had change, so no 50% off, so we went in anyways to eat. The begging part was good but once they took our order they took along time to come with our food, than once we got our food no one came to check to see if we wanted refills on our drinks and once we where done eatting our food, the server that took our order was too busy talking and one was off on her phone. There was only 3 groups in the restaurant. I had to flag down another worker that was cleaning tables to get our checks. She was only one doing her job.
Okay. Just okay. The meat in their ramen is gross, and doesn’t taste fresh: dry and tasteless. The soup and noodles are great, but I feel like there were too many ingredients and it didn’t really work. The sushi in the bento box was good, but I’m not sure what you’re supposed to eat the rice with.
Terrible, I would rate this as one of if not the worst sushi in the Monterey area. It was one of those experience where you are mad when you leave because they charged you money for that food.

My worst dinning experience in a while.I have been a frequent visitor to this area and the only reason I came here was because my favorite restaurant in the area is closed on Sunday and this restaurant seemed to have decent ratings.I ordered a 3 item bento box but ended up getting a 2 item box. And this is not the most horrible part yet. I was charged the price for 3 item, which is $2.00 more. I told to the host but they seems to have difficulty understanding what the problem is.In terms of food, it’s far from authentic. Sashimi was way below average and beef gyoza was as terrible as the service was.I gave 2 stars because the soft shell crab was okay.
Went during dinner time with a group of 4 on Sunday. The restaurant had a few other people there. Had green muscles and gyoza for appetizers, it was very good. 2 Udon noodle soups, shrimp fried rice, and mackerel with rice. The food was good. The waitress was nice. My problem was with the person who looked like the owner, with a scarf around her neck. She walked passed our table several times, didnt take away the empty appetizer plates, didnt refill the hot water for tea, didnt refill the ice water, and only gave us quick service when it came time to collect payment. She gave the bill to my mom, thats a No No. There was a guy in our group, she shouldve gave it to him or set it in the middle of the table. I paid with card and wrote zero for tip because we wanted to give a cash tip. I saw her look at the receipt and throw up her hand irritated as she walked to the back to get the to-go box. When she came back, she grabbed the cash tip super fast AS SHE WAS HANDING US THE TO GO BOX. wow... the food wasnt good enough to deal with her snobby attitude, so I will not be going back. I dont recommend this place.
Mustard (more like honey mustard) used in the sauce for many of the rolls was not quite to my taste, would be better with it it. Fish was fresh and service fast. Really liked the tea.
We loved the food. Shrimp fried rice is definitely worth trying. Sushi rolls are huge and really fresh catch. Vanilla ice cream was too good to be true as it tasted like India Kwality Vanilla ice cream. Kids have a straberry soda with a marble inside it, just like India Goli Soda. It was a great weekend lunch...definite visit Everytime we stop monetary. Customer service was great too...
We just celebrated my best friend birthday and they were an awesome hosts. The chief himself came to our table and said Happy birthday to my friend with a genuine smile. The food was beyond wonderful. Just loved it....
We ordered takeout tonight. We got the Kamikaze, Maui & Sun, TGIS, and Pebble Beach rolls. They were all fresh and very flavorful. The Pebble Beach and Kamikaze were our favorite of the four rolls. Quick order time and friendly staff.
I hate to write such a bad review especially because the staff was super friendly, but this perhaps is the worst sushi (and appetizer) I have ever eaten. The steamed veggie gyoza was soggy and mushy. It seemed like it was frozen and then put in a microwave for not long enough. Then the sushi was ok at best, but the fish didn’t taste fresh at all and it seemed like the tuna had been put through a blender.My girlfriend felt the same way so I know it’s not just me who had an unlucky experience.Very nice people, low prices, horrible sushi (and gyoza).
It was delightful ☺ the emat was tender and full of flavor. Honestly cant beat Ill be coming back in the future. Came with my friends staff is nice and friendly 😊 cant go wrong with the bento pick and choose all you want 😉 rice was cooked to perfection no impurities. Tho they did forget my ice cream but I cant really get mad maybe next time as always thanks for the food 🙃
This used to be our go to sushi spot because of how cheap it was and the large variety but we just cant keep giving them chances. Every time we come in thinking they will redeem themselves its worse. Everything from uncleaned softshell crab filled with salt water that just gushes everwhere when bite into it to hair in our sushi rolls. Forgetting rolls on takeout orders, charging our card more than once or even simply forgetting we are sitting at a table. Its such a bummer because it used to be the best place to grab sushi in terms of bang for buck but not worth the risk anymore.
We enjoyed a late lunch outside on the patio. The service was attentive and the food was great. My tempura was so crispy and not greasy, it was a real treat.
Ive been coming to this place for years and since Sushi-moto next to the Golden State Theatre went away, this has been the sushi place Ive enjoyed coming to. Generally kept clean and orderly with quick seating for smaller parties (4 or less) with a short wait time if any for larger ones. The tables feel a bit...small sometimes especially the ones for two people though Im a 6ft, 210lb guy.Besides that, they have a lot to offer. Their rolls are priced accordingly and for the average person, one roll will be sufficient. Their are not at all a glamourized Michelin quality sushi bar a la Jiro dreams of sushi but rather offer so many varieties and variables of rolls that youll have a great time trying each one. They of course have bento boxes, ramen, etc and have tried them and found them to be great but to me, its all about the rolls. Carmel Beach, Big Sur, and the Sake Hunter rolls have been the ones I go to when I cant decide or want something thats good.Between two people, youre looking at a tab of about $40ish dollars and thats getting 3 rolls between us, a miso soup for me, edamame as an appetizer, and some tea + water. Thats a great deal and youd be hard pressed to find a place thats this good for that amount of money. Definitely recommend!
Took 12 mins for someone to come to us and ask if we wanted anything to drink. The sushi bar was sticky and never came to clean it after we complained. Not cool in our book. We got up and left. No desires to even order. Thanks for nothing. Zero stars.
We go here whenever we have a kid free afternoon. Many of the making rolls are inexpensive and very tasty. Some of our favorites are the Pebble Beach and the Rocky. We havent really ventured away from the rolls.
Its ok. I was a little disappointed in my chicken katsu. The breast was thin and overly battered. Spicy tuna hand roll was average. I expected better from a spot in a high end retail area in Monterrey
Decent food with creative sushi rolls made to order. The service was not very attentive, we had to work to get the waitresses attention despite the restaurant being less than half full.
Waitress did not know the menu at all. The sushi was room temperature and smelled/tasted really fishy. When I asked the difference between the deluxe and regular chirashi, she went and asked and came back and said 8 Pieces for reg and 10 for deluxe. When I asked what fish came with it, was told, you know, tuna, tamago, those kinds of fish. Tamago is egg! Will not be going there. Wasted $60 for gross food we didnt even really eat.

The Unagi was very good as a appetizer. ..for my entree...I ordered the Tempura Don which is tempura vegetables / tempura shrimp combination. With this meal is a small salad, miso soup ( bland tasteless and cold).The tempura was a dark brown as if they forgot to change the oil for awhile...very greasy...the shrimp was falling apart, so when I picked it up...the shrimp slid out by itself, and to my suprise it was a tiny little shrimp the size of the smallest salad shrimp I have ever seen! I asked the sushi chef, (he was very accommodating ) what kind of shrimp is this, its the tiniest shrimp I have every seen. He responded by going back in the kitchen and reorder the shrimp tempura in fresh oil...Well when he served it to me, I looked inside the large tempura shrimp and again it was 95% batter, and 5% baby salad shrimp.I told the sushi chef again, and he took it to the food manager sitting at the end of the bar....no response...Finally after some negotiations the chef took my tempura part of the meal off, since I didnt eat it.This is another restaurant cutting corners with their food quality to make money with low quality filler food. We wont go back!!
This place is a health hazard. The owner, Mrs. Kim, once boasted to me how her “smart son” would accompany the Monterey city inspector and cleverly would redirect the inspector around the unsanitary areas, thus they were able to pass the inspections! I experienced firsthand the sanitary standards of this place when I visited them at their residence, as I was their landlord: the restaurant food items and supplies have been stored in the house and in the garage, and to my horrors, both were mice-infested! I hope the mice are not part of the menu. Of what I have seen, this “restaurant” has no right to serve humans.
I like the food Im just too white to know what to order.. and she didnt speak enough English to help me. I got sex in the city. Dahha Im white and from California. It was great. Order two. I didnt. I was still hungry.
This place can get packed quickly. They offer good sushi and other items. The choose your own meals are my favorite, because you can try several items without committing to one thing for your entire meal.
Ate dinner and had a couple drinks here with a friend and it was relatively busy. The menu offered a wide variety of main dishes, drinks, and appetizers. The staff were friendly and our waitress was very welcoming.

This is where we go when we want Sushi Plus. They have the most and the most creative rolls in town. The prices are reasonable and the service fast, reliable, and friendly. Have been many times and plan to go many more.

2023-10-10 03:28:47The sushi here was good, and there were a lot of different specialty rolls (many Ive never seen before). Ramen was also pretty tasty and a good portion size.I wasnt a fan of the edamame. They just serve it to you cold and no salt or anything.

Lunch specials are absolutely fantastic, tempura assortment top tier (pumpkin AND sweet potato?? you shouldnt have..) and udon is so delicious and full of green onion... 2019-06-05 02:41:08Location: great location, it in Del Monte Shopping Center. It’s easy spotted from the parking lot. They shopping center has a huge parking lot. Love it when I don’t have to search or fight over parking spots.The restaurant is beautifully decoration with Asian decor. They have inside seating, bar seating, and outside patio seating. So I guess you can say this is good for groups. There are a variety of sushi rolls to pick from and other hot food items.The sushi is beautifully presented but the taste, it was ok. The rice was a bit over cooked for my liking. I loved soft shell crab, here they were heavily breaded, can barely taste the crab. But the service was good. Our waitress smiled a lot and she checked on us frequently.

2017-12-10 01:19:21First time here, and came with my husband on a Saturday night. Service was attentive, quick, and friendly. It felt like the whole experience took 30 minutes. We ordered three rolls (Highway1, SunRise, and Star Wars), which were all fairly tasty, and all the sushi rolls were 50% off! Woot! Both of us left happy and full! Wed happily go back.

2023-07-03 04:03:40The place look okay, little to much rice on the rolls but ok flavors nothing that’s will make me go back soon, terrible service by am pressing was the owner the lady was picking up are dishes with out been finish we still waiting for are final sushi roll and she brought the bill and pick up everything from are table very unfriendly pushing us out i ask if you are in a hurry to get us out cancel the rest of the food and take it out of are bill and she didn’t say anything just made a mean face and rude person older lady, there was 4 tables that were there before us and didn’t bother them jus us

2020-01-08 05:22:23Dinner for 6 people was great, good food, well presented and tasty, recommend the Bento Boxes, great service and friendly staff. The ambience was lacking a bit, no music or vibe though, but we made our own.
