Chef Tony

First of all, its good and crowded. We arrived at 0950, 12/31, and already a queue of about seven or eight groups waiting ahead. Once its occupied, the second rounds have to wait outside and at least one hour waiting.Second, tips, DONT order the house special Roast Crispy Chicken with Black Truffle. Yes, its wonderfully crispy, but the black truffle dipping sauce on the side had no black truffle smell AT ALL. The sauce was tasteless and even a plate of Chinese garlic chives blossom (韭菜花) would be better, even though I dont like to eat Chinese garlic chives blossom.Third, DONT order any dish that should have a strong fragrance. Like Shrimp and Pork Dumplings with Black Truffle, Deep Fried Durian Pastry. They didnt have the smell they should have.Otherwise, all the rest were good or acceptable. Every dish met the standard, they were traditional, and they were authentic. Here are some recommendations:Shrimp Wonton with House Spicy Sauce. It was mildly spicy, the spicy everyone could handle it. The wonton was full of shrimp, soft, tender, and delicious. The sauce was full of flavor.Deep Fried Japanese OctopusIt was only the octopus feet without the body, you could read it from the menu if you know Chinese. It was crispy and very well seasoned.Shrimp DumplingWhich was steamed and fresh, very tasty, and very classic. Textbook level.Deep Fried Shrimp Spring RollIt was deep-fried but not oily at all, which was good, no one likes a mouthful of oil.Rice Noodle Roll with ShrimpRice Noodle Roll with Minced Beef and Chinese ParsleyFor the rice noodle roll, the shrimp one was better than the beef one, you still can order the beef one in case you already had the shrimp dumpling, shrimp wonton, and shrimp spring roll, too many shrimp in Cantonese restaurants.Deep Fried Pork DumplingThe personal favorite dish in any Chinese breakfast tea restaurant rarely had a bad one.Coconut PuddingThe pudding was in rabbit shape, order it if you have kids with you. The next lunar/Chinese year is the rabbit, its a good fortune hint.Something not that good:Juicy Pork DumplingThe shape of the dumpling fails. The juice of the dumpling fails.Wok Fried Radish Cake with XO SauceThe green bean sprouts were undercooked, even in their raw stage with an unpleasant smell. The cake was not even warm.

1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle
148 E Duarte Rd, Arcadia, CA 91006, United States
I tried the beef noodle soup, the dry spicy noodle, the beef wrap and the pig ear. All were delicious. The soup was light and flavorful, the noodles plentiful and chewy, the beef soft and tender. The wrap had a nice contrast of savory with some sweetness. The dry noodles were similar—savory and sweet with a hint of Szechuan numbness. Not my favorite flavor but this was subtle enough that it was enjoyable. I especially liked that you can choose a wide variety of noodle types and can see the chef hand pulling them in the back. The prices here are fair, and maybe slightly cheaper than other similar spots I've been to that charge $18 for a less generous bowl of noodles. Definitely see myself returning here in the future.

Quickly Cafe
171 Live Oak Ave Unit E, Arcadia, CA 91006, United States
I used to Love this place. It'sbeen a few yrs that I'veThe been in as I don't live in the area anymore. I was very disappointed walking in initially. Completely different. I now I can't say how long it's been this way, but it seems as the owner takes no pride in appearance.0- in cleanlinessI ordered 3 drinks and was immediately turned off by the looks of the place. A completely green fish tank full of algae as soon as you walk in. Dusty faux vines hanging all over the place, cob webs, and chairs I would not sit in.The connected restaurant looked abandoned, dark with a weird smell.THE RESTROOM was disgusting!I still had hope for the drink. But that was also a disappointment. I ordered 25% sweetness and it tasted like pure syrup. There was stuff floating in my drink which I mentioned and was told it was tea leafs. After experiencing the lack of cleanliness I couldn't take their word for it as they too seemed unsure, and ended up tossing the drink.I do not leaving negative reviews but what had happened to this location is a serious heartbreak

Monarch

Monarch, the sister restaurant of Chifa headed by the Leon family (aka my fave restaurant fam) is spectacular. You can expect exquisite decor that transports you to a dreamy blue space with similar but diff vibes from Chifas emerald green. If Chifas motif is the heart then monarch is the cloud. Perhaps they symbolize the heart and soul but regardless, the food is exciting and new spins on old favorites. We ordered the addicting curry noodles (its true, its addicting!), the steamed sea bass with olive tapenade (the olives are Chinese olives not CA olives and had an almost seaweed flavor to it - loved), the beet cake (its like turnip cake but dare I say, better?), the dads beef noodle (more traditional and very yummy), cocktails (all very interesting- I got the sesame old fashioned which was eyebrow raising and kept me curious throughout the meal). The desserts were a mix of house made (like the wonton cannoli which was amazing), and Collabs like the fudgey black sesame brownie from flouring la, and the vegan ice cream with pea flower and dark choc was a hit w my kid who has a dairy allergy. I love how beautiful the space was, how delicious the food was (the menu is still in soft opening limited menu but will continue to be built out), how family friendly it was (love the many pages coloring book and the colored pencils in a case), and how spacious it was (with great parking). Something tells me Ill be a regular here like I am at chifa!

Menya Hanabi - The Original Nagoya Mazesoba
733 W Naomi Ave Suite K, Arcadia, CA 91007, United States
The story on the wall says it all. Its Japanese ramen with a Taiwanese twist. Tbh, at first I thought this was just another Asian fusion restaurant. But boy, was I wrong! From the appetizers to the sides, even to the noodles itself, all were actually pretty good. I honestly loved their Takoyaki, Ive been trying lots of places around SoCal, and I must say, it was probably the best and the closest flavor to what I had in Japan. Oh, so buttery and creamy.Speaking of the Mazesoba, I would recommend getting their Deluxe Nagoya mazesoba and adding $1.49 for their bone broth. It reminded me of dry noodle combos in Taiwan (dry noodle+soup+sides). The noodles were bouncy and al dente, and the broth was flavorful. Would highly recommend following the recommended steps to mix the egg yolk thoroughly with vinegar. So good! All In all, they really nailed it with a good twist. Some might think the pork belly was not as tender as other ramen places. But I dont care lol. Overall, it was a good bowl of carbs that I enjoyed on my cheat day! Yum!

Maki & Sushi
302 E Huntington Dr, Arcadia, CA 91006, United States
Update: I had a mild case of food poisoning. Stomach pains later in the evening and upset stomach throughout the next day.OK, I usually try to write a fair review and look for the good in the products and services I have tried. However, this is one of the worst sushi places I have been to in quite a long time. The reason I chose this place was because of decent reviews on Yelp and fantastic ratings on Zagat. So lets at least start with the pros:Fantastic service, so at least the one star and A for effort in presentation and proportion size.Cons:I had order the chirashi and chicken kare age.The presentation was great until I started eating it. I usually like to taste the fish before dipping it in sauces but even the sauces didnt help cover the unfresh quality of seafood I had partake in tonights misadventures. I have been to many other sushi places and different types of fishes have a certain quality and taste due to their freshness. The salmon was tasteless, had a tinge of freezer burn and the texture was very chewy. Next came the sweet shrimp. Sweet shrimps are usually very buttery and are distinct in its taste. The one I had had a very fishy taste to it which covered up that buttery quality. Next came tuna, yellowtail, and albacore in which all had an extreme unfresh fishy taste to them and left a bad taste in my mouth after paying the bill.As for the chicken kare age, they looked like poorly battered frozen chicken strips. It tasted like it has been refried twice straight out from the freezer and had the texture and consistency of jerky. I have ordered a good amount of chicken kare age in the past at other Japanese restaurants and they did not look anything like what I had ordered from this place.Bottom line is that for the price I paid for the meal and quality of the food, I highly recommend not coming here for sushi.

Moxie Izakaya Restaurant & Karaoke
Top Floor, 1205 S Baldwin Ave Unit A, Arcadia, CA 91007, United States
Very heart-warming karaoke songs. There are many rich and new ones. The picture quality of the projection is very good. But it's not easy to order songs and you have to input them by hand. There are very few recommended songs. There is a 360-degree projector, which gives you an immersive feeling. The sound of the speakers is sufficient. There is a small nightclub inside the box, which is quite beautiful.I highly recommend his food. The fried chicken is delicious, the grill pans are all available, and the sushi is highly recommended.I ordered a pot of beer. The pot with lights was great for taking pictures but it was a little bitter. It's very cozy overall. It's a bit strange that the sound insulation is not very good and it's very transparent. But it's great to have ITV's like this here. Highly recommend. The service attitude is also very good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sesame Grill
308 E Huntington Dr, Arcadia, CA 91006, United States
Asian Fusion restaurant in a strip of restaurants by the the main road through Arcadia. Visually the preparation of the food was excellent, but something seemed lacking taste-wise considering the prices. The decor is modern but not thrilling enough to stand up to the pricing of the food. Overall you get the sense of an attempt at upscale but it misses a the mark.Felt hustled by the waiter with an extreme number of specials and “managers special“ discounts.. Maybe its meant to be seen positively as a deal but it made me wonder whether half of the food in the the kitchen was expired/expiring.Although Sesame is in a convenient location near the Arcadia hotels, if looking for an actual upscale place I would look elsewhere (perhaps Wistaria nearby which I highly recommend).
