I wouldnt come back. Its OK. Probably worth a try. I oddly liked it at first but it got worse the more I ate. I have some minor weird problems with it too. Its like Chinese Pho or Ramen. Straight forward. Noodle soup with toppings. There is some other stuff but that is their main specialty and its fine.The taste is kinda unique. Had a bit of a bitter, medicinal quality to the broth. Not overpowering, but the hint is there. The overlap between medicinal and culinary Chinese herbs is pretty large so I do appreciate this taste being taken there. Probably could have been done to the point where it actually tastes good but...My main gripe is the 2 inches of iceberg lettuce tucked between my noodles and toppings... Ummm... Yeah... What?! Hot lettuce is terrible. Hot, soggy lettuce is even worse. This is really weird. Greens are one thing. But this is not even in line with the flavor or culture profile. Not that iceberg lettuce has a flavor... Its just weird. So unnecessary.Given their little bridge crossing story, I do appreciate the separation of broth from the noodles and toppings. This seems like about twice as much broth as necessary but thats not technically a bad thing.Extra lettuce and broth arent bad. But they arent adding anything either. They are the appendix of this meal. Edible. But not really serving any real purpose and if they werent here it would be totally fine.Milk tea is overly sweet and over priced but that is what you get when you buy beverages by the glass, cup, or shot. The sweetness grows on you though and the chunks of red bean mixed in very nicely.This place is OK. Its food. It somehow tastes worse the more you eat it though.

TL;DR; Food was above average, but dessert was a bit disappointing.Came here for dinner on a Friday night around 6 pm. The place was quiet with only one single customer besides us.We were greeted and seated upon arrival and offered hot tea. We decided on curry beef fried rice, chicken curry, and a side of fried fish.The food came out quick and hot. All three items were tasty. The chicken in the curry was tender, and the curry beef fried rice had nice flavor with a hint of spice.However, service was a bit lacking. There were three staff, but only one person up front, so I had to walk up to the counter to order dessert and later to pay for the bill.For dessert, we ordered a Ube cheesecake, coconut milk with black rice, and yogurt with assorted fruit. All three desserts were mediocre. Especially the cheesecake. The cheesecake was dense and tasted powdery.Overall, I dont think we will be back.

While I dont consider myself a expert with Chinese food, I do have a lifetime of eating it.The offerings here are authentic Chinese, mainly Southern Cantonese style. So not your super spicy Hunan or Northern China kind of flavors.The ingredients are fresh and cooked perfectly. The only thing missing is the amount of spice in my curry noodle dish.The owners run this business and really care about their customers.The restaurant is easy to overlook because it is part of the motel in back. But its gems like this that make it worth seeking out, a genuine hole in the wall.The seating is simple so no frills here. Its a place to eat the ample portions. Cost is about average but slightly above a similar place in say Oakland Chinatown.I recommend choosing any of the lunch specials even for dinner, as those are the best value.Overall, I recommend this place if you want to fill up and have a great menu to choose from.

We are a family of three including a 13-yr-old. We popped in having only heard of Top Hatters and driven by it so many times. No reservation, just a walk in and we were sat in minutes, even had a choice between inside and out. Got lucky. We sat outside.Its a concept menu thats not very kid friendly--but we managed. I dont mind QR ordering, though Ive only seen this ordering method at comedy clubs.The menu is very imaginative, and descriptive, though its tough to know if it will be enough food to satiate. The raw oysters were medium sized with an overwhelming taste of citrus--not extraordinary. Our small plate was tender meat bites wrapped in Viet herbs with a dipping sauce (see photo). These were a great way to get the palate jump started. The Kohlrabi Salad offers fresh flavor and crunch as well.Our main dish was a medium-sized Rockfish (see photo). The presentation is impressive, and the flavor pulls through from skin to bone. We were impressed how meaty and hardy the fish was, made for great fish wraps using the herbs and lettuce. Of all the sauces, the tamarind paired best with everything.Our 13-yr-old loved the short rib, especially the ramen that it comes with. We got lucky, but the short rib is likely the only thing Id say is kid-friendly.The front of the menu explains in great detail why they choose to use a QR code for ordering. One of the reasons stated it makes for fewer ordering mistakes. However, we were given the wrong side to our fish and I was left scrambling to my phone to double check. They fixed it, but it was strange I was the one who had to check the order.Service was very friendly and we were checked on by multiple people. The food and drink were well made, flavorful, and satisfying. However, as others have mentioned, it is tough to justify the price point when there are other options nearby that offer more variety.

This is kind of an out of the way spot which is taking over an old pho restaurant.I flew in late to Oakland airport, I need something warm and homey. Frankly, I was itching for a good ramen. Having lived in the Bay Area many years, I knew I could find something like that.This place wasnt too far off of my path, and it was late and they were still open.Walking in the place is fairly unassuming, yet there is still some customers there. Almost that closing. I asked quickly if it was too late to grab a ramen, the kind gal could be said please have a seat.Looking around, I saw several tables that were covered with dirty dishes and uneaten food. Well that wasnt necessarily a great first impression, at least they had a good rush.Sitting down I received a menu, and a glass of cold water.Looking at the menu there was a variety of ramens to choose from, and so I went to my go-to Tonkotsu. Almost nothing better than a Tonkotsu with Chashu late at night. Done that many times after hours in Tokyo.Anyway I had to add Gyoza as a side to complete it.First come out the gyoza, and their fried on all sides. That is not my first choice, and this is very common when prepared by non-Japanese. I bit in, and while decent, they were not great. But the Ramen came out, and I was very excited. It smelled right, the broth was piping hot, and there was several good pieces of Chashu.First, I sip the broth. It was good and hot. Second, I slurped the noodles, they are firm, warm, and perfect flavor. I grab a little sneak bite of a Chashu, Its warm, nice savory flavor, and a good thick piece. Im pleased. I dive in. Before I knew it the ramen was gone, Gyoza, pretty much gone, and I was very full. The broth was nice and hardy, with a savory thick flavor, and simply it was a calming experience before hitting the hotel.For me my final question is always would I go back? The answer is a definite yes. Though I probably would not get the gyoza. But if youre looking for a good ramen, I recommend.

We arrived for dinner on a Monday evening and had to wait a few minutes for dirty tables to be cleaned up before being seated by a lady. We were placed on the other side of the counter, and promptly ignored for another 15-20min. :( Ultimately, another couple who arrived after we did had their order taken first, which was a bummer.Another employee (a man) eventually took pity on us and grabbed our orders, but apparently didnt seem too familiar with the market pricing (MP) of some of the fish (specifically, neither uni nor toro have their prices listed on the menu) and informed us that the uni would be $22/$24 for 2 sashimi depending on whether San Babara (per the sign, but Im assuming from Santa Barbara) or Japanese in origin, and that the toro was $15. With this information, we ordered a Chirashi Don ($23), a Hamachi Don ($23.50), and a toro sashimi.For the most part, we loved our fish! It came served atop a bed of ice to keep it nice and hydrated. The hamachi was a winner, as well as the tuna in my chirashi. The salmon was decent, but the amberjack and other white fish in my chirashi were a little more chewy and just OK.We still felt a little hungry after our bowls, so we added on an additional Dragon Roll ($14.50) to fill up with. Texture was good and the flavor wasnt anything to write home about, but decent and filling overall.We love fish and enjoyed our meal, but were disappointed to find at the end that we were charged $16 and change for our toro sashimi, with the staff adamant on not honoring what they told us before. Ultimately, this price difference wasnt killer, but it was still a bit of a disappointment in our experience of this joint.At least the lady came by often to fill up our tea after wed gotten our orders, I guess. Im not sure if service is hit-or-miss on different occasions, and whether our one server was just one-off uninformed, but Id probably give them at least one more chance for their tasty fish...

Wow!!! Driving home with my kids from a beautiful celebration of life and someone said I was Chinese food... So I plugged in Chinese restaurant on Google Maps and we found JL Kitchen.Dinner with some seriously picky eaters with negative attitudes... where everyone says... Wow... This food is soooo good after trying each thing... This is a first!!!This place is amazing and I hope to find a reason to go to San Leandro more often... Or just to come here works!!!
