Shanghai Yau Fat Restaurant
1721 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91803, United States
This is a decent Shanghainese restaurant. The food came relatively quickly and the service was ok. I tried 上海炒麵 and it was pretty good. Also got 醉雞 but the chicken was a bit dry.

Luyixian

This spot offers solid, traditional Taiwanese/Shanghainese comfort food. The place maintains a high level of cleanliness, and the service is truly top-notch. The staffs food recommendations are spot-on and they are super friendly. Dont miss out on their signature dishes—the House Special Braised Beef Noodles and the Braised Pork Rice Plate. The Beef Noodle Soup boasts a flavorful broth with incredibly tender beef. Their version of the Braised Pork Rice Plate is what Id call Deluxe compared to other places—its exceptionally tasty and definitely worth the $14.99 price tag as of Nov 2023. Ill undoubtedly return to explore more items on the menu and highly recommend this spot!Quick tip: Youll find this restaurant nestled within an office building at the corner of Garfield and Valley. There are many underground parking available, so even if the ground level parking is full, its still relatively easy to find a spot.

Jiang Nan Spring
910 E Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
This is a new restaurant for Jiangnan style cuisine, which was open in April 2019.The chef Henry Chang is a native of Taiwan, not from Shanghai China. Therefore, most foods are really not typical authentic Shanghainese foods, even though they all look similar. For example, the pictured Sea Cucumber quality is very good, but the taste lacks the typical Shanghainese rich flavour taste. Another example is a fried eel with ginger hot dish, which lacks the typical Shanghainese foods. When I had a first bite, the temperature is just warm without a typical Shanghainese rich flavour taste.A osmanthus fragrans sesame rice ball soup is the best (picture is not shown) with a typical Shanghainese flavour you hardly can find in Los Angeles or suburb of Los Angeles. The lobsters are very fresh with a great presentation. The taste is fine and its meat is very tender. However, the best cuisine for lobsters will be at the Cantonese restaurants.

Sichuan Spicy Bay
1265 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Finally, I had the taste of an authentic local Shanghainese restaurant, and my taste buds seemed to be transported back to the small shop on Fuxing Road in Shanghai. The spicy pork noodles are the most classic and can’t be missed. The fried rice cakes are also delicious. Want to try every dish on the menu.

Kang Kang Food Court

When youre feeling broke and want a decent meal for under $6, come here for the combo they have. 2 or 3 item combos available. It even comes with a bowl of soup. I also really like their watermelon juice they blend up for you upon ordering.Your get in line, pick the items you want, then tell them whatever else you want to order, like watermelon juice. Then tell them the number of the table you want to sit at. Yea, its a bit confusing, but once you get it, itll be second nature the next time around. They also have the old school style shaved ice with a bunch of random asian toppings like grass jelly, red bean or mango pudding. Also check out these dragon pork dumplings that are pan fried. Theres a big picture of this on the hallway in the back. The workers are pretty foreign, so youll have to speak in simple English, not regular English.
