Pho Hoa Jazen Tea (De Anza)
1089 S De Anza Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014, United States
I would give negative reviews to this place if I could. Their customer service is horrible––the manager especially (as of January 2019) is *extremely* incompetent. So, here goes: The restaurant messed up on an order that I made through Uber Eats. Maybe an honest mistake––it happens. I ordered the Mango Mojito drink with boba (an extra topping), but upon receiving the order from the Uber delivery guy, I found that the boba was missing. Unhappy with my order––as any customer would be––I called the restaurant to ask what happened. The lady that answered the phone was considerate; she offered a discount or free drink I could redeem upon coming there in person. I wanted some sort of written guarantee for my purposes, maybe an email or something, so I inquired. She routed me to the manager, which completely flipped the script.First, he claimed that the Mango Mojito did not come with extra toppings. He suggested this as an explanation for why I did not receive boba with the drink. This was peculiar since the form presented on the Uber Eats website *by the restaurant* presented a myriad of extra toppings, including boba. Further, I was charged for the boba, too, so minimally I should get a refund. Completely ignoring what I said, he blamed Uber for messing up the order to the restaurant. I could maybe understand that logic in some situations, but definitely not in this one. Heres why. The restaurant fulfilled my footnote requests for less ice and sugar in a second drink that I ordered, so surely they would have seen that I asked for boba in the first drink. I probed the manager again––I asked him, if I came to the restaurant right now and asked for boba with the Mango Mojito, then you give it to me? He said, Yes, but it would cost extra.YES! And this is exactly what I did through Uber Eats, so please explain to me how you *cant see* that I ordered boba for the first drink, but *can* see my footnotes for the second drink? On top of that, he started going off on how 60 cents isnt that much, Uber Eats sucks, Doordash is better, and the kicker––how the Uber Eats delivery driver is in charge of making sure my order is correct. Oh ok, let me get this straight. Now the Uber delivery driver––someone who merely transports food/drinks from point A to point B––is in charge of making sure everything that was supposed to be in my order was there? Yeah, it makes perfect sense for the delivery driver to start inspecting my drinks for boba, less ice, and less sugar. Because of the inconvenience, I asked for a discount or free drink, which was reasonable since that is something even his colleague had offered me before. He said he had no jurisdiction and I should take it up with Uber. What is Uber supposed to do? The restaurant messed up my order, not Uber. The manager even conceded that it was partly their fault, but he still refused to compensate me for the inconvenience.I thanked him for his time because there was no point in arguing with someone so incredibly out-of-sync with business ethics. What happened to the customer is always right? Point being, dont go to this place. Cupertino has a ton of other better pho and boba places.

Chicken Meets Rice (inside EatUp by 99 Ranch)
10445 S De Anza Blvd Unit 101, Cupertino, CA 95014, United States
Found this place after scrolling through yelp, could not decide between sushi, ramen, or this restaurant. Nonetheless, what got me interested in this establishment was the surprising name, Chicken Meets Rice. Quite attention grabbing. This place is located in a mini food court next to the 99 Ranch Market. The manager, Jonathan, was kind and nice enough to explain and accommodate our requests to our order. What we had ordered:1) Split Protein Box: Fried Chicken, Tofu, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Broth, and Sweet Chili and Teriyaki Sauce.2) Grilled Chicken Box, Sticky Rice, Veggie Broth, Teriyaki and Sweet Chili Sauce. My friend and I enjoyed every bite of our meals. The concept of chicken and rice is simple, but the flavors were so delicious and flavorful. Super healthy with protein and a medley of vegetables with the rice. The broths were a good palate cleanser and not salty at all. I had not eaten the entire day, so I was super pleased that this was my first meal of the day!Would love to come here again! :)
Donut Wheel
10250 N De Anza Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014, United States
Since 1976 Ive been to Donut Wheel at least a hundred times, though it was in a different building a little ways down the street for many of those years. Under different ownership, which changed sometime after the move.My dad moved us to Cupertino right at the peak of Western Civilization, in 1976. Ciceros Pizza was in a somewhat dilapidated building right on the southeast corner of Stevens Creek Blvd and Highway 9 (Saratoga Sunnyvale Road). They had the thin crust crust pizza. Now Ciceros is way over on the east side and the crust is not at all the same. its still owned by the same family so I dont know what happened. My theory is that the original Ciceros used olive oil to make the thin crust really crispy. Nowadays people figure they can save 50¢ or whatever by using regular vegetable oil -- which is just plain ignorant.Back to the Donut Wheel, yeah it was great. Open 24 Hours, so there was always a place to go. Across the street was a Bobs Big Boy, also open 24/7. Then we had Saratoga Lanes, which was always pretty much empty, but they still kept it open all night. Shoot the DeAnza College Library was open till 12,even on Sundays, with multiple Librarians. These old women who lived through the Great Depression had actual Library Science degrees, which are hard to get. It was similar to a doctorate in philosophy major back then. Anyhow, these women would help you find research articles at 11 pm on Sunday, with the microfiche. Theyd find two or three peer reviewed papers and print them out from the microfiche. It was like fun for them. 3¢ per page but they put it on your tab.Designer donuts are the thing now, so yeah, you cant do any better than Donut Wheel for the artisan donuts. Crullers with the whipped topping and strawberries, the chocolate frosted with cherry pie filling, the Oreo topped with white frosting, all different types. Continuous improvement too -- you might find something new every time. The maple frosted and white filled with bacon bits on top is a bit much though, I dont know about that one.The modern day Donut Wheel is still the best place on the planet for Apple Fritters, dont forget the Apple Fritters. Blueberry fritters too, but theyre not quite as good, I think its the moisture content of blueberries is less than apples. For lunch its just right, they have croissants stuffed with ham and cheese (and jalapeños if you want). Plus a Monster for your drink.
Pineapple Thai
19369 Stevens Creek Blvd STE 120, Cupertino, CA 95014, United States
I will start by saying the food is amazing, however, today was the third time Ive visited this place by myself and the service is actually terrible. I waited tables for a really long time and I generally tip more than 20% because of how hard waiters work and how terrible they can be treated, however, today was the first time Ive truly been disappointed. If I had had only one poor occasion (clearly two), I wouldnt be writing this, but after 3 times now, I felt like I needed to write a review because the service is just that poor.Today I ordered and after at least 5 minutes of waiting, my server still hadnt brought my drink - I ordered a pineapple ice tea and a water - so I finally asked the host/manager and he went and had the server get my drink. When she brought the ice tea, I asked again if she could bring water and she said of course. It never came. I would have asked a third time, except she never came back.I also ordered an appetizer (summer rolls) and specifically asked to have them come out first, but they didnt end up coming out until after my meal (funny enough, the last time, I asked for the same thing, but they actually never came, presumably because they forgot to put in the order?).It was a different person who brought out my meal and I didnt get a chance to ask them for water, but I thought surely my server would come back and ask if I needed anything. It wasnt until after I finished my meal, a different server came and asked me if I needed anything, but at that point it was too late, so I just asked for my bill. The food really is amazing, but the service is consistently poor, so please keep that in mind when visiting.
