Batch & Brine is a new restaurant in downtown Lafayette, CA with a stylish menu featuring artisan burgers and gourmet fare. These are suggestively paired with selections from one of the best on-tap beer list Ive come across to date. With more than 20 beers to enjoy its no wonder Ive been here three times already.Walking into the restaurant takes you past a patio that feels spacious and open, and there is a really great high-top dining bar that runs along the front. There are heaters for cooler nights. Inside, the decor is warm and welcoming. Its a very well done combination of wood, metal and brick with art that looks like Texas graffiti. On the first visit the restaurant was nearly packed. I had the Au Poivre, which is a burger served on a pretzel bun with a warm side of this incredible green peppercorn sauce. This burger really stood out to me. The burger was cooked perfectly to my medium order. On my second visit I ordered the Sierra. It was very different in flavor but each bite was a delicious combination. My third visit was literally a mind blasting new flavor experience. On the advice of the waiter I ordered a lamb burger called the Merguez. He said it was spicy. Every restaurant says their whatever is spicy. He insisted - this is a spicy lamb burger. So it arrived with my salad and balsamic. The first bite hit me with a combination of lamb, pickled red onions, pickles and heat! The lamb had a distinct red color to it. Each bite allowed the spiciness to build and by the end I was reaching for my pilsner to cool it down. The combination was really flavor focused and not a dish that was just hot for the sake of bragging rights!I gave 4 stars for one reason. On my second visit, it was incredibly busy. The kitchen overcooked the burger (I ordered medium). The one thing I lookout for at a gourmet burger place is the consistency of the kitchen and how perfectly they get the meat between visits. The Sierra burger was good, and if I had ordered well done it would have been perfect. That said, they are adjusting. The menu is extremely good, the beer selection is unparalleled in this area and I plan on being a regular at Batch & Brine!
