I stopped in this week with a friend for lunch. The food was amazing, we loved the moo shu pork and the lunch special was very generous. I had the mango chicken which was something totally different and really tasty. The service was great and they were right on top of my iced tea.The only thing that I did not love was the atmosphere. Its a cute little restaurant and could be made much nicer with just a little bit of cleaning up and maybe some fresh paint. There was some stock sitting around in the restaurant, which unfortunately seems fairly typical at Chinese restaurants. Otherwise, the food was amazing and we will definitely go back for that!

This place is great, the food is excellent- every time. Im vegan, and I can only vouch for their veggie options, and I will say they are great. The have a large menue and most items can be made veggie. They have great sauces and flavors, and all dishes that Ive had have been top notch. My wife and I like to come here at least once or twice a month, and every time we leave looming forward to coming back again and trying another dish.

No buffet but the food is very good. They also make the time and effort to know their individual customers and their needs. I think this is actually more out of kindness than business acumen as I witnessed it with a homeless patron whom they treated like a king.

Great little place with a charming Chinese decor. Very friendly staff and willing to explain anything on their very extensive menu. The items we ordered were all very fresh and so delicious. We ordered the wonton soup and hot and sour soup. Both perfect in texture and flavor. We also ordered a plate of pork dumplings and a plate of vegetable dumplings. Both tasted so fresh, although I personally prefer the pork, which had plenty of flavor.Prices were moderate, but reasonable. This was our 1st visit and a pleasant experience.

My family has been coming here since before I was born. The menu is fairly extensive and everything (Ive tried it all over the years) is good. The folks working there are kind and attentive, the restaurant is tidy and well anointed, and the prices are low for the sheer amount of food. I cannot sing their praises enough.

Had a slight disappointment when today when I found out that their Japanese chef was not available and that the Japanese food on the menu was temporarily not available, but that just goes to show how much they believe in authentic and good food that dont push chefs that havent mastered certain recipes to cook. I had the curry with chicken and it was still delicious, even though it wasnt what I came to get. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming and sets the atmosphere. And the service is great and friendly, not only knowing menu items but also showing a passion towards all of them.

We wanted away from the beachfront crowds so we stopped and grabbed some quick takeout from this place not long before they closed. Staff was super friendly and even brought our order out to our car.While we were deciding what to order a couple eating at a table told us theyd been coming to Chopsticks for 30 years and have never had a bad meal! We ordered the Chicken Chow Mein (which was actually Lo Mein- but some of the best Ive ever tasted and I am a Lo Mein FAN!) and the Sweet and Sour Pork. The pork was perfectly cooked and crispy with fresh, crispy vegetables and traditional sweet and sour sauce.Definitely check this place out if youre in La Mesa!

Absolutely wonderful food. Also very friendly service. Came with my wife, 10 month old son, and parents and they took amazing care of us. Even brought a special baby bowl and spoon for my son so he could enjoy as well (we didnt ask, they just brought it for him)! Will definitely come back.

Im not a picky eater, but the food isnt simply worth the price. I paid $21 for honey walnut shrimp. I had 7 pieces of shrimp that tasted like honey... youre better of eating at Panda Express. Service was also trash. 2 people worked the front, my drink wasnt taken for 8min, and then I got my drink 5min later. There were 3 booths filled (including mine). I wish them well, but I was not very happy at all. Im literally going to chipotle right now because Im still hungry.

We ordered for delivery, it came on time. But the food was worse than underwhelming. I ordered shrimp egg foo yong. This meal is supposed to be and EGG pancake with vegies like bean sprouts, water chestnuts and eggs. Fried into a pancake that should be juicey with a gravy, and shrimp over the top. This was a very dense cake of I think rice, flour and chopped shrimp. There was no flavor, and very MINIMAL gravy. My husbands dinner was just pa lot peanuts, chestnuts and an over abundance of celery with chicken, beef and shrimp. MINIMAL. We wont be returning.

Our family loves coming to Chopsticks Inn. The noodles and other dishes are fantastic. My daughter is absolutely in love with the Egf Custard Buns and asks EVERY week to go! Service is wonderful. Wish theyd change out the tables and chairs.

So, were sitting across the room from another couple. It was their first time eating here as well. I bring this up because they asked the waitress how long Chopsticks Restaurant has been in business.35 yearsSo I missed 20 years of really good Chinese food. Thats how long Ive been in La Mesa.Try the Wor Won Ton soup for starters. The stock is next-level. Pork fried rice and spicy crispy beef, excellent. Even the dim-sum sampler was as good as, and in the case of the chicken dumplings, better than what I can get at, say, Jasmine. No joke. Im not saying they ARE better, but Im not as inclined to drive to Kearney Mesa as I once was. What a find.

Half the menu is off the menu. Call ahead to make sure they still serve what you want since the menu is very inaccurate, even the menu in store had large sections that are no longer available. Good food but went there for the items that were no longer being served.

I arrived at this restaurant with high expectations due to the reviews. When I arrived I waited for 10 mins with no line in front of me. When I was finally seated and ordered it took 15 to 20 minutes to receive my food and it wasn’t busy. The food turned out to be sub par and left me extremely dissatisfied and disappointed I will not come back.

The service here was really good, enough to get a great tip. The almond chicken was great and the bbq pork was ok. I alone ordered the egg drop soup and it was extremely thick. Almost like a thick pudding. I kept doubting it with each bite I took, but didn’t listen to myself. Then today I woke and could not stop vomiting. I can almost guarantee you it was the soup. My husband did not order it and he was fine. We were actually there one other time we realized once we got there but could not remember the visit, now I know why, the food was mediocre. Never again

My Family stopped in for lunch and we were seated fairly quickly. However no one ever came back to our table! We waited as the server walked past us for over 15 mins. Not a full house and theres only about 6 tables. Being able to see and hear around us, as everyone else has been served drinks and had a chance to order, we were concerned. These other people came in the same time and after us! Feeling a little disappointed being over looked for quite some time. We left and went somewhere else. It did smell good though...

Im sorry to report that the food was less than mediocre. I hadnt eaten here in a few years and it was a disappointment. Egg rolls and fried shrimp were frozen and overcooked. The steamed rice wasnt even fresh. We ordered cream cheese wontons, my daughters favorite. They didnt bring them. Go figure. The service wasnt what I remember either. We had a less than satisfactory experience. Sad to say. My daughter commented that Panda Express is better. I dont eat there and I will not go back to Chopsticks. Good eating to you all.

We had ordered delivery on a few occasions before, and decided to go there and pick up some food for a change. Its in a quaint mini mall in downtown La Mesa. The atmosphere is subtle but gracious and walls and cabinets are covered with antique asian furnishings that give it personality. You want to look! The food is great and the prices are reasonable. Service is good and usually fast. Well be keeping Chopsticks for years to come.

Took daughter in law for belated birthday dinner! Food was excellent as always even got son to try new Chinese dish he liked it! They gave us free soup as it would take time to fix all the different dishes we wanted. Excellent service this place always gives a great dining experience.

My wife and I ate here last night and this is our second time at this restaurant. I have given the Chopsticks Inn five stars based on the fact that they are close by, the food is very good, the people at the restaurant are very nice, friendly, and so on, plus the prices are fine. This is not a super high end fancy five star place, but the kind we can visit on a regular basis. And we have been looking for a good Chinese place to eat since our long time one closed about two years ago. The Chopsticks Inn does serve some Japanese food too BTW. They also have dim sum. Last night we had shrimp with pineapple and honey walnut sauce. A great dish that we had never had before. We also had soup, egg rolls, and. beef and votable dish the waiter recommended. All good.

I dont know where all the good reviews came from, but the food I just had was pretty bad. Yakisoba noodles were boiled way too long before frying. They were super soggy and mushy. The taste was super bland and not good. Crispy pan fried noodles were soggy and not crispy, and the taste was indescribable, I really dont have a word for it. I took a couple of bites and threw it in the trash. Even the char siu bao wasnt right, the bun part tasted weird, and the filling had no flavor. Everything I ordered was bad. They got two stars because the noodle dishes were loaded with meat, but they need to be seasoned and cooked properly. Somebody really needs to be tasting the food before serving it. Its pretty bad. The other negative reviews were spot on about the food and soggy noodles. Perhaps they have more than one cook and I just got the bad one today. I dont know I wont eat there again to find out.

I found this local gem when I had a craving for dumplings. What a wonderful surprise! Their extensive menu offered my family something for everyone. Thai, Dim Sum as well as Chinese dishes. While they are struggling without having their dining room open, my order was fresh, hot and delicious. I had shrimp dumplings and house stir-fry rice. This place has THE BEST VEGAN meat dishes in San Diego. Its tough to find a good Chinese food restaurant that uses a mock beef/chicken but this place has got it!! The atmosphere is a little run down, as is often the case with small mom and pop Chinese restaurants. The food is pretty good, just not outstanding. Nice that they actually have a few actual fish dishes, which other Chinese places tend to shy away from.Update, Nov/16: Im upgrading my review to 4 stars. Looks like theyve retooled the menu a bit, and the quality and service both seem better. Definitely worth trying.

They just handed us their menu without saying anything they walked away. After the terms take our order they told us that they discontinued more than half their menu. They then demanded that we choose something else quickly off the menu. The food was okay glad that it wasnt more expensive.

I am so happy I finally checked this place out! they have a lot of vegetarian options here a lot of meat dishes can be turned vegan, since I quit eating meat I missed a lot of my favorites like moo goo gai pan, my boys favorite orange chicken and others, I really wanted a dish they didnt have on the menuif they but they made it for me anyways and it was really great! This is our go-to place I wont go anywhere else now.

Stopped in for dinner with my son in the early afternoon. Service was great. We were seated quickly and after ordering, the food was serve hot about 10 minutes later. I had the Vegetable rice dish and my son had the sweet and pungent chicken. Bith dishes jad great flavor, veggies were fresh with a little crunch, not overcooked at all. Atmosphere was quiet even with other guests seated and eating. Take out is also available. Overall great place to eat.

We fell in love with this place. The owner is also the server and hostess. The food is expertly prepared and served. He will also customise a meal for you based on your likes. The dim sum is the best I have ever had. The service was impeccable, we were treated as if we were the only ones in the restaurant. I highly recommend it. It is a Pan Asian, meaning it has Chinese,Thai, Japanese and Laotian and a few others. Wonderful cozy place.

A lady friend and I went to Chopsticks Inn today for lunch. I had been there a year ago with another friend and the food then was excellent as it was today. My friend had the mango shrimp dish on the lunch menu and I had the chicken curry on the lunch menu. They both came with soup, rice, egg roll, and a potsticker. Cant wait to go back and eat a variety of their dim sum. Excellent food and great price.

Surprised this tucked away chinese food restaurant is not bigger. The employees were extremely polite after we arrived an hour before closing. We didnt mean to stop so late. But served us still and was completely nice about it. They boxes our food up for us and said thank you. That comes a long way with restaurants now these days. Very authentic! The food is good. But Ive definitely had better. Every dish Ive tried so far is sweet. 2 of them overly sweet. My kids love it but I dont like my kung pao chicken to be sweet or Mongolian. I get it with cashew shrimp or orange chicken. But they are more sweet that panda express. So if you like sugar syrup.... Youll love this place. Also. Its kinda of expensive for what you get. Each item is $15 or at least with tax. Its good....but Mandrin House in Otay ...is way better....I guess Im spoiled.

We really like this place and have been there a number of times. Though I dont expect to be there again. The food is great, the service is so so for dinning in. Take out is a random issue. Food is good, but your wait could be the 30min they tell you, or 90min. They dont give a reason, just Ill go check. Bascially, if the food isnt ready when they say, you might as well leave.In general, they are a little slow, and it may take a little while to get your order, a drink, or food, but not too bad when you actually dine in.

I am vegan and I went here 1st time and I am disabled I wear a walking boot. therefore i move slowly and i first went to the restroom to wash my hands and i came back undecided on what to get and the restaurant was empty a small family sat in a booth in front of me the waiter came to me and i had questions and had her gv me more time to decide i went with the vegetarian noodle dish and i noticed the noodle was egg noodle and i asked if they could change it to glass noodle rice noodles she said they don’t carry that kind. I then asked to order another vegetable dish the waiter said ok walked away before i could choose my protein to go with the meal and which according to the menu stated it came with ur choice of meat: tofu chicken beef etc i ask for tofu she told me that would be extra because that dish doesn’t come with ur choice of meat. i said ok and she went back into the kitchen was there for a little while and a customer came in during this time to pk up order and she came back with my order and i tasted it. the waiter then went back into the kitchen and made a remark in her language to the cook who replied in laughter and they both laughed and she came out finally to give the person waiting for their pk up order. as the restaurant was still empty the cook and the waiter could not hv been referring to anyone else in the restaurant for i knew she felt annoyed by me requesting changes to my orderthis was my 1st and Last time I go to this restaurant and though i had my food pkd to go i didn’t eat another after i tasted not that it was noticeable nor was it great and I just didnt feel right to eat something after an experience like that🙄one star bc i had to put something.

We ordered off Grubhub and the food came pretty quick, that’s not the issue. The issue is I ordered the cream cheese wontons, as advertised on Grubhub just cream cheese wontons. When the food arrived I opened my order of wontons, LUCKILY before biting into them I tore it in half since they are decent sized, to my horror they were filled with crab, which I am allergic! I called the restaurant and spoke with a VERY RUDE man, I told him it was wrong and could I either get my money back, or have them resend me what I actually ordered. He told me I should have specified no crab and I told him there was nothing indicating it had crab. He then got mad because I told him do you understand how dangerous that is, I could have bitten into that and gotten badly injured, at that point he started cutting me off and telling me I could have a store credit for dine in only, and was being really rude, I was like how do you expect me to have a credit when you don’t even know my name or even tried to ask? This is an old Mom n Pop shop that has been around 17+ years that I can recall. I have been going with my family since I was 8 or 9 years old and I still keep go back. They are very keen on requests especially if you have food allergies, and I enjoy their service, not to mention, I think their food is delicious.
