Chopsticks Inn Restaurant
8687 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
I am vegan and I went here 1st time and I am disabled I wear a walking boot. therefore i move slowly and i first went to the restroom to wash my hands and i came back undecided on what to get and the restaurant was empty a small family sat in a booth in front of me the waiter came to me and i had questions and had her gv me more time to decide i went with the vegetarian noodle dish and i noticed the noodle was egg noodle and i asked if they could change it to glass noodle rice noodles she said they don’t carry that kind. I then asked to order another vegetable dish the waiter said ok walked away before i could choose my protein to go with the meal and which according to the menu stated it came with ur choice of meat: tofu chicken beef etc i ask for tofu she told me that would be extra because that dish doesn’t come with ur choice of meat. i said ok and she went back into the kitchen was there for a little while and a customer came in during this time to pk up order and she came back with my order and i tasted it. the waiter then went back into the kitchen and made a remark in her language to the cook who replied in laughter and they both laughed and she came out finally to give the person waiting for their pk up order. as the restaurant was still empty the cook and the waiter could not hv been referring to anyone else in the restaurant for i knew she felt annoyed by me requesting changes to my orderthis was my 1st and Last time I go to this restaurant and though i had my food pkd to go i didn’t eat another after i tasted not that it was noticeable nor was it great and I just didnt feel right to eat something after an experience like that?one star bc i had to put something.
Tamarind Thai Restaurant
7970 University Ave UNIT 310, La Mesa, CA 91941, United States
Wednesday night dinner for two... The food was very, very good. The menu was comprehensive, yet not overwhelming. We ordered the combination appetizer platter, as well as an order of mixed vegetables with chicken. The food was fresh, delicious, plentiful, perfectly prepared, and served in a very reasonable timeframe. Each sauce was just right. The pricing was very fair. I would definitely return for the food.In my opinion, the wine offerings were over priced, and most of the wine options were not compatible with Thai cuisine. Perhaps a bit of consultation with a wine specialist could enhance the pairings, and assist the servers in their recommendations. (Our wait person recommended a Cabernet Sauvignon with the most delicious and light chicken and vegetables. The staff was friendly and attempted to be helpful, but seemed baffled not only with the wine recommendations, but also by my friends inquiries regarding what they thought were the best items on the menu. Knowing how to respond to such questions without accidentally denigrating the other selections on the menu would be helpful. The entire environment is really quite casual, beginning with the exterior. Although there are a few really lovely features (the gorgeous floor, as well as the mural on the wall outside of the bathroom) the ambiance doesnt do justice to the delicious food served in this tiny treasure. In my opinion, a brief consultation with a professional designer could elevate the entire experience to the same level as the delicious food.
City Tacos
8325 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
Ive first ate at City Tacos at their North Park location and this La Mesa store has the same high quality tacos from there. Ive visited this location four times, twice at night and twice during the day, it is a wonderful restaurant to eat at and hang out with friends. This isnt a cheap taco shop to buy tacos or carne asada chips, the tacos here are higher priced but feel about 1.5 to 2x bigger than than typical street tacos. Three or four tacos plus a draft beer should set you back $16 to $25 depending what you get. The tacos here are perfect, I really love the Borrego taco w/ Lamb & the Portobello Mushroom taco they are my favorites. Especially on the Portobello taco, I have been hooked how they make it, plus the corn, & cotija cheeses toppings gives faint tastes of an elote. The tacos arent overly filled up but I always seem to spill some extra out when halfway done. What I love about the menu is how they have icons to help you with you decide; spicy, paleo, vegetarian, & what kind of tortilla it comes with. There are about 19 tacos available and they have a specialized taco every so often. You have to order sides, there doesnt seem to be a combo kind of meal when you order tacos.Coming here for food should amp you up, it has a lively atmosphere, with upbeat pop tunes from the 80s to now & very attentive employees taking your order and serving you tacos. It is a very hip place and happening place, so if youre expecting something more quiet, or having a strategic boring by the numbers business meeting wouldnt recommend it. If youre looking to start the fun nightlife somewhere, Taco Tuesdays here can ignite it with a live DJ mixing in an assortment of genres, you wont miss it if youre navigating with your ears. Though Im not sure if there are DJs here every night, I would assume there are on Friday or Saturday. They dont have a large selection of beers on tap, four craft beers and they got an assortment of bottles to drink to make up for it. The salsa bar is full of selections and never have I seen any condiments look like theyve ever been sitting outside for too long where they dry up. There is parking in the rear and you can enter thru there as it leads to the patio where it has a small bar. Outside seating is nice at night as they have outdoor heating and the building does block some of the wind. City Tacos got my attention at the original location in North Park and the La Mesa location keeps the high standard.
Himalayan Cuisine
7918 El Cajon Blvd P, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
Calling all Omnivores, Herbivores and those in between! ? ?Okay, so I NEVER write reviews. But Himalayan cuisine deserves 5 ⭐️. If Gordon Ramsay ate here he would give nothing but rave reviews. Trust me. this is the best Indian food AND hospitable service you’ll have in SD. PLUS* I’ve tried them all. *Side note* This is the perfect place to go to eat if you’re trying to adjust to life post pandemic (and you have anxiety about it, I mean let’s be honest here, it’s been a minute since we’ve been around ppl, been able to practice our social skills). Also, this place is vegetarian friendly! They have a whole section dedicated to that, (vegetarian to vegetarian ? ??♀️? Order the vegetable samosas, paneer Tikka Masala and cheese Naan) Everyone who works here is so kind! They genuinely want you to have a great experience and the food! You’ll want to savor every bite. If you’re thinking about ordering in or going to this amazing restaurant STOP thinking and just go/order. you can thank me later ?
Submarina California Subs La Mesa
5454 Grossmont Center Dr, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
I havent had submarina in YEARS!!! And the expectation was high to say the least, and this location did NOT disappoint! I got there right when they were opening and having been in food service 90% of my adult life, I know its tough to greet the 1st customer with happiness and bubbly personality but these workers did just that! They were even training a new employee and were so patient and kind to her, I was delighted. The owner rang me up and was kind enough to exchange some pleasantries too. Food didnt disappoint thank goodness, I think my heart would have broken!

Is this place real? The location on the map shows the same as IHOP?
Nekter Juice Bar
8042 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
I entered the store at 4:45 and asked if I was too late to get service. She said no she was still open. I ordered a smoothie that cost $10.79. I saw a sign in the store advertising a free drink or smoothie with app download after first purchase. I wasn't having good luck finding how to get the free offer. When I asked the clerk to assist me, she told me she didn't know how and the owner didn't either because they are a franchise and they don't know how to work the app. I told her that if they are going to advertise it, they should know how to make it work and she disagreed with me and said nobody else has ever had a problem and she doesn't know how to do it. At 4:58 I finally got it to work and she told me she wasn't going to make my free smoothie. She laughed and said the store was closed and that I had to leave The store without my free drink that I had finally successfully downloaded the code for. I was not happy when she told me she wasn't going to make my drink and I took my tip back. She ordered me to leave several times and said she was going to call security as I was calling the Number for Customer Service for this juice bar. Then she went outside and attempted to lock me in the store with the outside lock. I threatened to sue her if she dared to lock me in the store. She then pushed her body against the door, preventing me from being able to open the door without using my entire weight to get out of the store. As I was leaving, my purple smoothie spilled all over my shirt. She stood there, screaming at me as I was walking to my car. I am a 65-year-old woman and I have never had this kind of treatment In my whole life and I will tell everyone I know never to go to this store. Shame on you!She also wouldn't serve another lady who came in at 4:59. If I was the owner of this store that would not be acceptable. You are open until the time you close and if a customer is in the store before that they should be served.I can't imagine you get enough business to treat customers this way. I just may decide to sue you for my ruined shirt.

La Mesa Pizzaworks

I loved the pizza at this large, unfussy restaurant. They didnt skimp on the quantity or quality of the cheese, sauce, mushrooms, black olives, pineapple, or vegetarian pepperoni. Lots of choices of calzones and they even have a dessert pizza, with their own apple-pie filling and a choice of four flavors of ice cream. The French fries were crispy and delicious. We also got a real two-liter bottle of Coke -- not the usual watered-down fountain variety you get at other places. The staff was very friendly and responsive. Ill definitely be a repeat customer..
El Veganito
5500 Grossmont Center Dr, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
El Veganito is by far the best, most traditional vegan Mexican food I have had! I got the horchata and the tacos de papas with rice and beans and everything was extremely delicious. The rice and beans looked a little boring and I thought I would have to doctor them up with hot sauce when I got home, but just one bite and I realized they were so full of flavor and werent lacking in any way. The cheese and crema on the tacos de papa tasted so real I almost questioned that they were vegan and definitely wish I could get my hands on some! Although they were just filled with potatoes, the tacos were super flavorful as well and the shells were the perfect consistency. It definitely reminded me of the socal/Mexican food Im used to growing up in San Diego. The horchata was very fresh and tasted homemade with a good blend of spices (definitely tasted like more than just cinnamon). I just wish they were closer to north county because I would be going every single day!
The AubreyRose Tea Room
8362 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
Went for my best friends birthday. Wonderful atmosphere. Our server was also very attentive even with how busy they were as this place is open limited days so they are bustling; especially with parties. The servers also dont use pens and pads or anything past their own memory so hats off to them. I could never. We started off with tea, the house blend. Very nice but then I moved to their peaches and cream blend and I swear if you like the quaker oats peaches and cream oatmeal packets you will LOVE this tea. Especially when you add cream and sugar to it.I also had a tea that tasted exactly like an Almond Joy... and it was pleasant. I actually hate coconut as a flavor, but it wasnt overpowering. It was chocolaty and tropical and very nice.I also had an earl grey that I cannot recall I think it had blue in the name it was also wonderful. Our starter was a cantaloupe soup that was cold and so so nice. I hate cantaloupe but it was perfect especially since the day was warm. It also came with a tea sandwich that was delicious too.Our tea tower had savory sandwiches on the bottom, scones, curd and cream in the middle and petite desserts on top.My favorites were the cucumber sandwich and the crusty bread with green beans and cheese on it.The scone was very flavorful and they have a wonderful lemon curd! Very bright and tart.Lastly I did enjoy the shortbread cookie with the peanut butter frosting on it.I will say since it was a tea, its all small portions so if you have a Big appetite you will be hungry very soon after, but if you fill up on the unlimited tea youll be alright. :)Will visit here again!
