Lively sushi restaurant. Everything I tried was delicious (see attached photos). The Crazy Fish Roll was fantastic! The Ramen was good, the names salmon was delicious, and the sashimi sampler was spot-on. If you can catch a Groupon, youll be loving life!
This place is a scam. I placed an online order through their website but the restaurant was closed when I went to pick it up. I never received any food and have not been able to get in touch via phone, email, or DM for a refund.

Cool place to hang out right across from the pier. They have fancy drinks and sushi rolls that are kind of pricy but tasted delicious. You can get the edamame appetizer spicy or regular.A lot of their sushi rolls have some kind of heat in them, so it was kind of difficult for me to choose something non-spicy because I dont like too much heat. Ended up getting the Manhattan Roll, which was crispy shrimp, cucumber, avocado on the inside and tuna, yellowtail, salmon on the outside.The service is very nice and friendly, and it was a great environment to hang out at the high top tables and just chat and catch up until closing time on a Saturday night.
This is a must visit spot. Not just for the fresh and amazing sushi, but for the awesome experience. You have to go and sit at the sushi bar!! You will meet the four brothers- Efren, Martín, Beto, and Cali. You will feel like youre part of the family when you are done. They are hilarious, and they make the best sushi. Definitely recommend the yellowtail with jalepeños and the crunch roll. Yum. The dessert fruit plate was amazing as well.
Rok Sushi Kitchen provides a great dining experience! There are several positive things to review and a few cons. First, the sushi quality and quantity are above average; they take pride in fresh ingredients and great combinations of flavor.The space is a bit cramped, and the music can be a little loud, making it difficult to communicate with your party, in addition to hearing over other patrons.The bar is well stocked and and fairly priced. The bartenders and sushi chef staff are very friendly and helpful.I would recommend Rok Sushi Kitchen to those who enjoy good sushi and an active atmosphere.
Loved the sushi and chill vibe. Blackened tuna was so great. I loved the sauce. The Late Night Hermosa roll has a delightfully amazing kick. I love that this place is locally owned also. Easily a new fave. ❤️

Sydney was great! Awesome and caring server. The food was good on the whole and their happy hour specials cant be beat for the price. Avoid the oyster shooters unless you want a full shot of soy sauce.

Great chefs and amazing food. The mix of flavours and textures is simply breathtaking. The owner was very welcoming. The drinks did take some time to come out so we were offered the sake on the house which was a nice gesture.On the other side, the waiter clearly lacked experience. Did not remove the empty plates unless we asked, We felt rushed because he brought the bill before we were done or asked. This happened twice. I was also surprised to see the mandatory 20% gratuity is included in the bill. I asked and was told it was the usual practice for a party of 5 (we were 2 adults & 3 kids). It’s ok in the sense that I would have tipped anyways but I would have preferred having the choice.

I wish I could give negative 100 stars. This restaurant has horrible customer service. My husband and I walked into this restaurant hungry for dinner. We sat down and contemplated the menu. Then the owner of the restaurant came to our table and asked us to move tables and if we didnt that we wouldnt be able to be served. I said that I was ready to order and that the table they sat us at was fine. The owner then started yelling at my husband and I that we would not be able to be served and we ended up leaving the restaurant. Extremely horrible staff member, they will treat you horribly and Im sure your food is not safe either considering how horrible their staff is to treat their customers. Good luck, this place sucks!
Honestly amazing. I’ve tried multiple places after moving up to this area and this has to be the best. Not only the best sushi but the best atmosphere. The owner truly cares about his establishment and it shows. If you get a chance to go in and meet the father son duo of Micheal and Kyle you are in for a treat! My fiancé and I not only had such a good time hanging out there but also couldn’t stop talking about how good the food was. Our sushi chef Beto was phenomenal. The fish was amazing but the chef made the experience. Highly recommend.

Visited this restaurant July 2021. Food was amazing! Super fresh and delicious! Owner went out of his way to see that my friend and I were seated in comfortable area and servers very attentive. Was a great evening out after the shut down and reopening is so difficult for many restaurants! For sushi and atmosphere you will not be disappointed! Lovely evening and amazing food. Wow, what a great place! Its in a cool location right at the Hermosa pier; the food and service were fantastic.I sat at the bar and the bartender made me feel like a regular even though it was my first time there, taking the time to introduce himself and talk about some of his favorite drink options.I had two sushi rolls here that were excellent, definitely good quality and all things considered I feel it was fairly priced for the location and quality of food. Will be going back very soon!
My experience was humiliating here from jump. When I walk in I waited 10mins and everyone seem to busy to show me a seat. When I seated myself, immediately someone came to correct me to a different spot. Ok, so I figured maybe they’re busy. But 5 mins later when a Caucasian couple came in they were immediately seated. So I’m looking at the menu waiting for someone to come take my order, as I’m waiting I notice servers attending to that couple that just walked in, yet no one has even bothered to offer me water. I decided to sit back as I turned on my timer to wait and see how long it would take for a server to come take my order. Well it took 1hr 30mins before someone casually walked by me and said “Are you ordering anything today?” I politely said “maybe about an hour ago, but I’ll take a black tea for now” Meanwhile I was starving but I could not support this kind of service. So while I’m drinking my tea, I hear someone say directly behind me, “we have to clear out some customers to make room for our reservation party” I then turned around and ask if they worked there and the person proudly boasted that he was the owner of the joint. I then proceeded to ask for my bill, it was extremely obvious my presence was not wanted there. I Felt so humiliated and discriminated against it was like experiencing what my ancestors went through in modern day. Racism is like a iPhone it’s face change’s with time

Great place for quick Sunday sushi lunch! Our server Dave was awesome. We ordered the salmon skin role and the skin was burnt instead of crispy. It had a horrible taste. Dave took it off of our bill without a fuss. We plan to come to ROK sushi every time we visit the South Bay.
Hard liquor, Saki, and Japanese beer selection is good but regular beer selection is lacking and they dont carry any hard ciders. Sushi is a bit over priced, but always very good in taste, freshness and presentation. The host/hostesses and bartenders are not very friendly and seem a bit pretentious. However, the waiters are great and the sushi chefs are outstanding (Efren ? and his brother or maybe its his cousin or maybe both work there too) have been sushi chefs there for years (as long as I can remember!) and are true gems in personality, friendliness and skill!
This place has bad reviews on Yelp so I kept avoiding it. I decided to give it a try last night and Im glad I did. Great and friendly staff. The spicy edamame was great and the sushi was fresh and delicious. Will definitely go back here.
Oh my. Dont waste your time. At least if youre ordering Sushi for take out. We found the food to be mediocre at best; the fish was mushy, the veggies were soft and the flavors were just okay. Sorry guys, but we were so excited and hoped for more. As for the ambiance, we went there for a drink after work one day, but it was so loud we couldnt hear ourselves think. Good luck. My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience at Rok Sushi Kitchen.... we decided to sit at the sushi 🍣 bar.... BETO(the comedian) & his crew was amazing...the energy, the laughs, the stories, the history and family all in one... will definitely come back... thank you for the fried banana dessert...BOMB!!!
Best sushi in the south bar. Great motorcycle parking right out front too. There is an A in the window and ROK Sushi has earned it too. The restaurant is very clean. The staff is always very friendly, great food plus great service and the best location too. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would.
This place has very good sushi in a trendy atmosphere. It can be very loud on the weekends. This would be a good choice if you like excitement, but it comes off as quite commercial. If you are looking for a quiet traditional-Japanese place with a real Japanese sushi chef, then dont choose here.
A friend of mine had an art show in the upstairs area and it was beautifully staged and Rok was incredibly gracious! Besides all of that, the food is incredibly delicious and they have fantastic handcrafted cocktails.

Restaurant is closed. Like for good. Unfortunately, their outgoing voicemail does not say so, and DoorDash thinks they are open as well. I just spent an hour waiting to pick up a dinner for my son and me (after ordering via and paying DoorDash), went to the restaurant to pick it up... to find it closed! Could you not at least change the voicemail, let DoorDash know... So hangry, and not taking a chance on them ever again!
The happy hour menu had a wide selection of things to choose from and the food came out quick and tasty. The service was also prompt and friendly. I never had Miso soup with sesame seeds in it before, but it was really good.
Fish wasnt fresh. It was very dry and has some bad smell and the server wasnt friendly at all. I also told him to separate one of my side dish and he put it all in one bowl and hes blaming at the cook about not understand him. He start touching my plate and he wants to put my side dish onto my plate. Thats not very nice and professional and I dont think it was a two sides in the bowl. I believe he was just lying to me. Hes not a good server.
Needed to grab lunch on Saturday - so we popped in for a couple bento boxes.The rolls were great, however the salmon we ordered was flavorless and chewy.Position size is just right, but you really have to nail your fish to be a great sushi spot.Look forward to hovering it a second try perhaps on the future.

Worst Ramen ever. I know you guys offer Sushi as your specialty but please remove the pork based ramen from your menu. It is watered down, tasteless and you used Cup Noodles for the noodles. For being such a prominent restaurant we were surprised how disgusting your Ramen was. I mean if your offer it on the menu and I pay for it I expect at least average even if your restaurant focuses on Sushi. Good service but gosh we wish we hadnt ordered the Ramen. Remove it from the menu unless management is actually going to make an effort to improve the dish.

The bar tender said he had a hang over, and he acted like it, cursing and being loud with employees, condescending.He then told us there was no lemonade, later, at the table, our server said there was indeed lemonade.However the food was good, as usual.Just get a better bar guy please.

Great sushi; Great, creative rolls and Ramen and other tasty entrees for kids. Full bar which steps it up a notch for non-beer and sake lovers. The sushi chefs have been around forever and dedicated to their art. Best of all is its across for the Hermosa Promenade and a 150 yards from the beach.

Food was okay. But this was by far the slowest restaurant Ive ever been too, especially in the Japanese category. I spent way too long here for simple dishes. They also forced an 18% tip with only 5 adults. There are plenty of better, honest options in the area.

This is a really great place for a date and ofcourse to eat sushi. The food is delicious and the service is on it. They have an excellent variety of sushi, sashimi, and sake selections. They bring your food in order as it should be and quickly.Its located directly catty corner to Hermosa Pier with local bars and other restaurants.Parking can be quite tricky but they do have a parking structure a few blocks away by Chase Bank.Definitely read the parking signs and feed the meter or youll be having quite an expensive night.It can get a bit chilly by the ocean so bring a sweater or jacket just in case. The Comedy Club is near by so you can eat and go there afterwards. Outstanding location, tasty dining, and eventful entertainment all in one spot. Fun for groups, dates, or even solo if youre up for an adventure. Enjoy!

Rok is a pretty decent sushi restaurant. We ordered the chicken karaage, a 20 piece sashimi plate sampler, and a couple beers, which set us back around $70. Was it worth $70? Not really. Was I happy to have a $40 groupon? 100%. Our waiter was super nice and personable. We were there for my best friends bday, so we received a free banana tempura for free which tasted so good!Overall: Rok is a good sushi restaurant, just a little expensive for what it was.
This was my first visit to Rok Sushi even though I have heard great things about it!! The Sushi was delicious! You must try the wonton fish tacos and the Bruce Lee roll!! Thanks to Sushi Chef Tony who made our taste buds tantalized and our experience exceptional!!!

This is the Best Sushi Rest in the whole South Bay Area. The 3 Brothers from GDL they Rock and Cook the Best Sushi Money Can Buy around there. Go to the Sushi Bar and when you Done, they will Treat you with Banana Tempura.If you dont know whats is that, then you been Missing a lot.

This should have been disclosed as soon as I told our waiter we were using a Groupon I told our waiter we were using a Groupon at the beginning of our meal, I usually do this so the server can disclose whatever information is required, or at least be prepared) I took this as an insult. I typically leave 20% but this time I felt jipped. Because I asked why the 18% gratuity was added, my boyfriend decided to leave a $20 tip (20% would have been about $13 on our bill) . I wasnt happy about this but I allowed it. The service was somewhat friendly but not that great.The ONLINE MENU is NOT UPDATED:::I wanted to be sure I would like what we got before I ordered my Groupon, so I looked at the online menu so we could prepare and order something both of us would like, my boyfriend isnt a huge sushi fan, so I liked that there were pasta options online. When I got to the restaurant the menu had completely changed. There were no pasta options, only noodles. This was super annoying!!!I ended up getting the dynamite roll and my boyfriend had the teriyaki noodles with chicken. The dynamite roll was very good but sparse! The teriyaki noodles and chicken was very ordinary, I have made better.Overall, I may give this place another chance, but most likely not.

NASTY OYSTERS!!!! We ordered an appetizer of oysters from the bar. No kidding it took 30 mins to get the order. The plate arrived with 4 large shells containing large pale oysters already covered with cocktail and sriracha sauce. The first bite was an unforgetable sensation... warm, mushy with no taste except for the sauce. WTF WAS THIS! Came to the conclusion that the reason it took so long was that someone must have run to the store and bought oysters in a jar. They were smothered with sauce to cover the poor quality. We immediately complained and were not charged. WILL NEVER GO BACK
Dont go here expecting authentic Sushi! Be smart go inland or more south like Asaka or Arigato in RB. But these tiny miniscule rolls are ok & they have a late nt happy hour here which most ppl dont know. Makes the wines cheap & you are rt there at the piet to go out after. Service is great & lots of options, drinks are strong & well priced but this is NOT top notch Sushi but still a fun place w many food options. Been here about 10 times. Chef Cherryl

A nice Japanese restaurant in a nice setting. Had their edamame, a sushi combination platter, and their spicy tuna roll. Their spicy tuna roll is not something youd expect and worth trying.
Food was terrible, by far worst sushi I’ve ever eaten. The sushi roll I got tasted spoiled. Service was good though waiter was attentive to the issue and didn’t argue.

I cant remember the names of everything but will go back to the menu to find em. pick anything on the menu and youll love it!Maybe it was a lil dehydration from our long beach walk but Even THE WATER was good! Lmaooooo brought me back to life with a lil lemonA few things we had:-blackened tuna with some kind of black pepper sauce... It tastes familiar like the way mom makes simple canned tuna (thats a high compliment bc hers is really good and I love my mommy! lmao) but elevated to x100 with the presentation, fresh ingredients-gyōza... My go to starter. I have to get them everywhere lol-lobster and crab hand roll... AMAZING light with crunchy things in there! I wanted another right after but realized they were closing and wanted to be considerate although they never rushed us and even sat a party very close to/past closing time-late night Hermosa... Bestie gave me one off her plate-- A MAZ ING! hot (temp) which I love but let cool a minute or two if you dontThe drinks were great too! Fuzzy on the correct names bc.... I had 3 lol! But a fleur paradis something like that. Light fresh, yuzu drink--love loved it my fav of the night and it looked sparkly lol-a something with mint and gin in a tall glass-- loved it!-a reddish something with a warming feel to it-For saké sake and a mule... Bestie loved!

2022-10-31 18:48:05If I could give more than five stars I would definitely do that! I don’t know why it’s taking us so long to try out this sushi place but it is absolutely the best in the area! Not only does it have a super cool vibe to the restaurant, the chefs are hilarious, but the food is on a different level! Every roll that we tried was so good! I can’t wait to go back to this restaurant!

2023-02-14 05:58:49I looked like a typical sushi place but I sat at the counter and turned out it’s like having an Omakase experience. (yes, the menu is pricey indeed, but for the quality I think it make sense). It very stood out that I can 100% tell the sashimi is better than a random sushi restaurant or Japanese supermarket.The owner was around and he said that they have limited golden sake. I have no idea because I’m not very into it but seems like they have a big collection.I barely found free parking at Hermosa beach. There were some spots a few streets away from the beach. You just have to walk a bit. It’s only 1hr parking though.

2023-11-03 02:44:46I hear this place is really good from my wife. I tried to have a date night with my wife starting with dinner. I called multiple times and left messages. No return call. I also used the reservation service that they have on their website. They didn’t have any luck for 3 days trying to reserve a table for us. I was really looking forward to that place.

2019-07-25 17:16:36Not a bad Sushi experience at all. Very friendly staff and some great dishes beyond the Sushi bar norm. There was a very strong variety of patrons both tourists and locals which was interesting to say the least. The way the location is branded and presented is definitely a win in its own right so enjoy your surroundings. The beach is just a few blocks away! #sushi

2023-07-10 21:11:32They have a great happy hour. If you buy specialty rolls your bill goes up really fast, but they are delicious. I recommend, but I think part of the price is their close location to the beach.

2023-07-05 17:07:03Been here a few times, with friends. The friends have been dozens of times and whenever we are in town, we liked to go there. The last time, We walked in, they had all the customers in one small section, while the rest of the place was empty. What happened to social distancing? For the convenience of servers, I presume, they were lining tables up close to the sushi bar... to save steps maybe??? Anyway, We would have liked to have been seated separately, so we didnt have to listen to the conversation at the table next to us (they were talking loud and the music was loud). Do you consider that maybe people go during the less busy hours because they dont like crowds? The guy behind the bar came out (Im guessing in is 50s or 60s, didnt get his name), was so-so if I had to judge in friendliness... seemed like he was put out, having to leave the bar and come seat us (with literally 2 other parties at tables and no line)...gave us a few seating options and my friend questioned him about not allowing us to sit at a particular table. It was reserved. My friend didnt understand that you could reserve a specific table. So she questioned why we couldnt be seated at that empty one. Its an understandable misunderstanding (LOL), an opportunity to educate, since we didnt know this was a thing... instead of patience and a gracious explanation, the guy just said this isnt going to work, I cant make this work, I gave you choices. (He said no to our inquiries about 3 different seating options) To be fair, my friend had come across as assertive, and was confused, but not rude at first, and the rest of us were pleasant and patient with the situation. There was no reason for him to be short or rude or anything but gracious. When my friend said Im going to tell all my friends not to come here, he replied Oh Im so scared, very sarcastically. I really couldnt believe someone in a position of customer service would even have this as a response. I imagine the whole scene made the other customers uncomfortable. I give them credit for our prior experiences as I believe the food is good and they have a decent happy hour. Parking can be difficult, so plan ahead for driving around and paying metered parking.

2021-08-29 21:52:35My hubby and I came here randomly and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was upbeat and chic, but not too fancy (we are at the beach after all!). The sushi was good (yellowtail sashimi was 💣) and reasonably priced. There was a DJ too which made it even more fun. Sushi party? Sign me up!

Been here twice in the last 2 months for special occasions and all of the appetizers and entrees Ive sampled have all been absolutely delicious. All of them were plated beautifully and photo ready lol. The staff is stellar! Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain the dishes to us which was very helpful. The restaurant is practically on the beach so it has that cool, casual beachy vibe while still maintaining its modern and trendy look. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Its perfect for date night, celebrations or just any time you want to have some good food. They also offer several dishes that are non sushi related a kids menu and have a full bar. (I got my 75 year old mom to do a sake bomb!) Also, theres a public parking lot within walking distance if youre not lucky enough to get a meter spot. Personally I cant wait to go back!

2023-06-30 05:17:06Very nice atmosphere and the sushi was so fresh and delicious. The Tap Out Roll might be one of the best sushi rolls I have ever eaten, Amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant.
