ROK Sushi Kitchen

Been here a few times, with friends. The friends have been dozens of times and whenever we are in town, we liked to go there. The last time, We walked in, they had all the customers in one small section, while the rest of the place was empty. What happened to social distancing? For the convenience of servers, I presume, they were lining tables up close to the sushi bar... to save steps maybe??? Anyway, We would have liked to have been seated separately, so we didnt have to listen to the conversation at the table next to us (they were talking loud and the music was loud). Do you consider that maybe people go during the less busy hours because they dont like crowds? The guy behind the bar came out (Im guessing in is 50s or 60s, didnt get his name), was so-so if I had to judge in friendliness... seemed like he was put out, having to leave the bar and come seat us (with literally 2 other parties at tables and no line)...gave us a few seating options and my friend questioned him about not allowing us to sit at a particular table. It was reserved. My friend didnt understand that you could reserve a specific table. So she questioned why we couldnt be seated at that empty one. Its an understandable misunderstanding (LOL), an opportunity to educate, since we didnt know this was a thing... instead of patience and a gracious explanation, the guy just said this isnt going to work, I cant make this work, I gave you choices. (He said no to our inquiries about 3 different seating options) To be fair, my friend had come across as assertive, and was confused, but not rude at first, and the rest of us were pleasant and patient with the situation. There was no reason for him to be short or rude or anything but gracious. When my friend said Im going to tell all my friends not to come here, he replied Oh Im so scared, very sarcastically. I really couldnt believe someone in a position of customer service would even have this as a response. I imagine the whole scene made the other customers uncomfortable. I give them credit for our prior experiences as I believe the food is good and they have a decent happy hour. Parking can be difficult, so plan ahead for driving around and paying metered parking.
Pok Bar Poke Prince

Just went there and ordered a thai iced tea. After waiting about 15 minutes as they served the family ahead of us, we ordered a thai iced tea. As the more aged guy made the thai iced tea, he filled up the cup with ice... a lot of ice. It was overflowing with ice. He then put the thai iced tea in there and was struggling with the ice and milk addition. We made the comment that THAT is just waaaay too much ice. He then started to remove the ice and gave up. He created a new drink with less ice and presented it to us. When we got it, it had gross little white chunks from the powder creamer he used. Who uses powder creamer on thai iced tea? It is normally with evaporated milk or normal milk. Powdered? And then he said it is because he was rushing and couldnt mix it properly. Well, he should not serve something unless it is ready to be served. I had already paid for this so I asked for a refund. The guy then pretended to give the refund and provided the receipt. I returned after realizing he tried to dupe me and said that the receipt didnt say anything about a refund. And then he processed it again, quickly and correctly, and looked at me with a blank face. No apologies. Nothing. Very disappointed. It was a clean place, nice and airy... but the lack of customer service really made this experience so disappointing. I enjoy supporting local businesses... but not when they suck.

Trader Joes
1100 Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, United States
I love my Hermosa Trader Joes. I know where everything is. Not every T.Js is the same as far as stocked products so when I am forced to go to another one I miss this one. This location always has a wonderful selection of fresh flowers and some small plants (right outside the entrance doors for plants) When it is peony season I go crazy for them. $8.99 for a lovely bouquet right now they have antique pink shade, gorgeous. So trader Joes if you have never been is smaller and has mostly their own products. I love everything and better still are the prices than just about anywhere. I have my favorites and you can even Google Top picks at Trader Joes and get options if you want to know more. If you are a wine enthusiast you will LOVE their selections. They have champagne and so on and beer.. they have all the fixings for a fabulous Charcuterie board, I love the cheese selection and meats. Even paté. You can make it as decadent as you want grab some amazing organic wine and you will be the hit of the small gathering.Have fun take your time and look at everything. Check out their new products shelves! You will love this market.I love the new product section. They stock new products regularly. I now follow some blogs and get Google news trader Joes updates. May sound crazy but as a single person (I care for my dad) making a meal for one of a pain until T.J. ny dad is on soft foods so I can get bone broth and soups and make my own. I LOVE the rib eyes at this location and have almost perfected broiling one in my air fryer. The fresh fruit and veggie section is better than ever. Some prices have gone up as per everywhere since covid. But they are still the best buy and value and so many organic options.I also love the staff. Everyone is happy and kind. When do you see that?
Barans 2239

The only reason Im giving this place 4 stars is that Ive yet to dine in person. That being said, the breakfast burrito is BOMB!Know that they stop the breakfast burrito sales at noon and, as a pro tip, call ahead and order as the preparation takes around 25-30 minutes. They take orders via phone and Instagram! We did not know any of this before our arrival but the customer service was fantastic and the woman assisting us gave us all the details. She even recommended a coffee shop down the way if wed like to check out whilst waiting (we decided to hit the Saloon instead and the spicy bloody Mary was perfection).Once we acquired the goods we headed down to the beach to indulge. At first glance, the burrito was a thick stubby thing but packed some heft! Then, as we started eating the burrito we were amazed at the balance of flavor and texture! The house-made chorizo was perfectly seasoned, a place not afraid of some salt (yes!). Not to mention, the salsas were a great addition to the burrito with the Rojo being my favorite (Im a Verde girl usually).I was very VERY pleased and satisfied, and I was stuffed to the brim! To say the least, I was not hungry for hours after!I highly recommend this place and I cant wait to experience their dinner service! As a note, follow their Instagram. They offer up limited specialty pre-order burritos!
North End Bar & Grill

Way better than I expected. We came here because the Mexican restaurant next door didn’t serve cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised. The drinks were inexpensive and heavy on he alcohol. We ordered the Asian chicken tenders and garlic fries. Everything was fresh and delicious. Bartender was nice. It seemed like a cool spot for locals. We were just visiting but if we lived here I would definitely come back.

Red & Louies Pizzeria
1040 Hermosa Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, United States
Best Chicago pizza and Italian beef place in the South Bay! Originally from Chicago but have been in LA area now since 1998. Since that time, it's been impossible to find anything similar to Giordanos, Beggars, Rosatis or Lou Malnatis. I even visited Joe Mategna's Taste of Chicago up in Burbank awhile back which didn't quite cut it.My go to has been Fresh Brothers but they changed their recipe a few years ago and it's not that good anymore. Union Pizza was another that had a decent deep dish. But I finally got around to trying Red & Louie's last week and can definitively say it's the best Chicago experience you'll find out here.I've tried the following so will try to comment on each: sausage thin crust, pepperoni thin crust, cheese garlic bread and Italian beef.- The sausage and pepperoni thin crust tastes almost exactly like Giordanos. Red & Louie's has a stone fire over so you know how important that is to a crispy crust like most Chicago pizza. Thin crust pizza is excellent.- The cheese garlic bread tastes a bit like Lou Malnati's cheese bread but better. Marinara sauce is great and a perfect blend.- The Italian Beef was also excellent and comparable to Portillo's. While there is a Portillo's in Anaheim, that's not somewhere you're going to drive to unless you're already in the area. Red & Louie's also offers marinara on the side for the beef like Pop's and like some Portillo's still do.I haven't tried the deep dish yet but can already say this is one of the best restaurants and pizzas in the South Bay. It's also a good, chill place to watch some sports on the multiple flat screens inside. Highly recommended from a Chicago ex-pat!!
California Sushi & Teriyaki -Fat Kitty
703 Pier Ave STE A, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, United States
We came here for a family gathering and found the place to be a charming, everyday sushi spot. The service was excellent, with really friendly staff. Overall, the food was good, and most of our extended family enjoyed what we tried. However, for myself and my immediate family, who appreciate the quality of the fish, we werent overly impressed. We tend to enjoy raw fish like sashimi or nigiri without any sauce to mask the taste, and we found the fish here didnt quite meet our expectations in that regard. If youre in the mood for delicious rolls with sauce, this place is worth a try. But if youre seeking an exceptional raw fish experience, Id suggest looking elsewhere.
RYLA
1220 Hermosa Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, United States
I absolutely LOVED this Asian fusion spot! It was so good, I went back 2x in 1 week so I could try more stuff on the menu. The restaurant is located in a very popular spot in Hermosa Beach. The atmosphere is lively, kinda dark and a younger crowd. They have a full service bar and they do offer happy hour. My first visit was on. Friday night and it was packed and got seated at a high top table in the bar area....nice but very cramped. We had barely enough room to squeeze in with less than 6 inches between us and both tables on each side. The 2nd visit was for the late night happy hour on a weekday and it was much less crowded....most pleasant since we had more room.I love that the menu is focused on farm to table and it changes frequently depending on what the chef finds at the local Santa Monica Farmers market. We tried the following items:Shishito pepper skewers (happy hour menu)$5Pork Belly Bao Buns (happy hour menu) $13Hot Chicken Sliders (happy hour menu) $12Grilled Skirt Steak (happy hour menu) $32Nashville Spiced Hot Chicken Kaarage $18Grilled Ribeye Steak $58Yuzu Shio Butter Ramen $22Mapo Paccheri Pasta $24Chocolate strawberry dessert $14Everything we tried was great but the standouts were the grilled ribeye with the crying tiger sauce and the Mapo Paccheri Pasta ....the kaarage chicken and the pork belly baos were great too! Even the ramen was delicious! Honestly everything was really good quality with nice flavors. They offer happy hour M-F from 5:00-6:00pm and from 9:00-10:00 pm and weekends 3:00-5:00 pm and 9:00 pm- close. $2.00 off bar bites and discounts on drinks too. They do offer valet parking for $10 if you cant find metered street parking.I will definitely be back! This is one of my favorite new spots!
