Monkey King At The Brewery
1708 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Nice place to get a quick bite. It’s not a full service restaurant like the Monkey King down the street. This one primarily focuses on quick bites to share. Nevertheless, the Asian fusion food they serve is still very good. One unique aspect of this location is that it’s right next to Alameda Island Brewery. You are able to bring their beer into Monkey King and vice versa with their food.

ONON - Fresh Korean Kitchen
1795 S Alameda St E #102, Compton, CA 90220, United States
I love this place! This is Asian Fusion semi fast food place. Its a Korean bowl place. Picture Chipotle for Korean! You get to put whatever you want included in the size and protein choice. I didnt even think to take pics of my food, next time for sure! I had a large bowl with a little spring mix salad, Korean beef, roasted Brussel sprouts and zucchini, tomatoes, English cucumbers and peanut salad dressing for the salad, top with sesame seeds and fried scallions! This bowl was so delicious especially the Brussel sprouts! I went to the Compton location and the gentleman helping me was excellent! I told him it was my first time and he let me sample the chicken and beef, he was patient with me because they really have a lot of choices! Must try! Locations in Norwalk, Compton and Torrance!
Ohgane Alameda x Vons Chicken
2211 S Shore Center #160, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Ive been coming here for years. Always have great service. Food is great, I mostly come here for the Kimchee Fried Rice, its my favorite.Always loved coming here until recently, my friends and I came for a birthday dinner for 12. We never came with that much people before, its usually 4 of us. When I called in saying we have 12 people, they said it was too late to do reservations (which I totally understood, it was day of) the gentleman said to us it may be a long wait for our table for our party of 12, no problem. When we were finally seated, to our surprise they sat us 2 different tables. I asked for a big table but they failed to tell me big takes has to be reserved ahead of time. I so wished the gentleman told me when I called and arrived. I wish I had warning we would be seated at 2 tables. We let it go and made it work.We had 4 picky eating kids with us. Ages of 4,5,7,9. All we ordered the kids was a side of fries, which they didnt even finish. When the bill came, to our surprise we were charged for 4 kids all you can eat. I spoke with the waitress and she said their policy is kids HAVE to be charged the all you can eat regardless if all they eat are fries. Fyi per kid was about $17. THEN they realized one kid was 9 so they changed it from kid to adult price which is now approx $35. I lost my mind! They said on their menu it said this policy but when I checked myself, all the menu mentioned was the all you can eat ages which is between 3-7 years old. Nothing about being charged for kids all you can eat regardless if kids just eat fries.Im so disappointed on our experience. This experience put such a bad taste in our mouth and dont plan to come back. To make matters worse, before the hectic occurred, I told the waitress its one of my friends birthday and they never came to sing happy birthday. As much as I loved this place. Never again. Rip off!!!
Hang Ten Alameda
2315 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Went to hang ten to celebrate my daughter graduating highschool, party of three. We were seated, orders taken, food served and then the lady that was setting up a professional photography shoot started using her flash, and I mean FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH, rapid and bright. We ask her if she would be doing this the entire time, yes was her answer, we asked if she could please put an umbrella in front of her table in order to try and block out the horrible flashing, it did not. I switched seats in order to try and enjoy my meal as I am very photo sensitive and wear sunglasses everywhere I go. The owner or maybe it was the manager came by the table and started to discuss with me the situation and it was up to me to make the decision in asking their hired photographer to stop. I had food on my face and all over my hands as I was enjoying my food and found this quite awkward. We purchased soda pop and purchased the refills. Our bill for three people was $280 before tip, the food was good but the atmosphere sucked. The drinks could have at least been comped as an apology for the insane amount of flashing. All other guests were warned coming into the restaurant, we were not given that chance.
Little Joes Express
1410 Encinal Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Little Joes is the sleeper neighborhood restaurant. A very unassuming sliver of what appears to be your run-of-the-mill greasy Chinese spoon establishment actually turns out some fantastic Cantonese cuisine. With a 5 year old, our standard test Chinese fare (to see where this particular restaurant falls on our scale) is fairly, well, standard, but they are executed well here. The house special fried rice comes with diced bbq pork, sections of chicken thigh meat, slices of beef, and 3 or 4 large prawns. The dish isnt too greasy, didnt taste of stale cooking oil, and doesnt leave a pool of oil on the plate, which means the chef is cooking with high heat and a swift hand.Cashew nut chicken and broccoli beef are our other yardstick dishes, and Little Joes are served with satisfyingly fresh ingredients. The cashew chicken had evenly cooked vibrant zucchini, celery, and a few button mushroom halves. No old, yellowed celery stems or squishy squash past its prime, and a very generous scattering of cashews that didnt force us to ration each scoop. The beef with broccoli had tons of fresh, crisp broccoli (almost too crisp, could have used 30 seconds more cooking time!) And thankfully, slices of tender beef that hadnt been given the usual Cantonese treatment of baking soda to puff it up. Im not a fan of pillowy puffy beef so they win points for leaving the beef and chicken unadulterated! The establishment is small and very bare-bones; we ate under a flourescent light with a tv showing a sportsball game so the gemütlichkeit, or ambiance was not supreme, but the food was done very well and we knew what to expect. Take-out seems to be the preferred way of enjoying their food, but dont be dissuaded by their sparse dining room!
WaBa Grill
1907 S Alameda St #101, Los Angeles, CA 90058, United States
So hard to find parking here. Finally parked on street, walked in to find that is small inside. In this location they still ask you if you want onion in your food instead of having it out for you to grab like other locations do. Another thing I noticed is their sauce containers are way smaller that at other locations. I dont know if this location is as busy all the time or I just came at their peak hour but there was a line. Food took a while to be ready cause the ladies there werent fast enough and were chatting. And while I was there one person came back saying they got wrong order. I dont think I will stop at this location again for those reasons.
Hang Ten Boiler Alameda
2315 Santa Clara Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
We arrived at Hang Ten thirty minutes before closing on a Sunday night... The waitress was definitely going to spit in our food...There were still a lot of people inside and another large party walked in a minute after! We were immediately seated and the waitress hurriedly came by multiple times to ask us what we wanted within the first couple of minutes. We decided to share a pound of shrimp (because they dont do half pounds) with H10 sauce and the H10 fries. Im sure this place is compared to Boiling Crab occasionally but I feel that they are completely different in taste. The H10 sauce is super thick and creamy and buttery with a bit of a tang. The Steph Curry was also very buttery and creamy and has a slight sweetness to the curry. The H10 fries were super bomb!!! The fries itself were crispy like a cracker and worked really well with the chipotle mayo, minced meat and all the delicious ingredients on top! And lastly, I was able to try the garlic noodles and they were delicious!!!I felt bad for coming in right before closing but Im glad I was able to try the food even if they spit in it!!! No regrets!!
Monkey King Pub & Grub

Worst garlic noodles ever and possible food poisoning!!!!Ive been to this location before awhile ago and remember it being good so I decided to go here yesterday to pick up dinner. I ordered garlic shrimp noodles, garlic noodles with beef, and the Mexican street corn. When I got home I noticed the noodles with beef were just swimming in a pool of murky liquid. Flavor wasnt bad but the beef tasted old. The garlic shrimp noodles tasted completely different as if they forgot the garlic and butter?! The corn was super sour and didnt taste like I remembered. I noticed a short while after eating my stomach was in so much pain and was taken over by stomach aches and nausea. To keep it short I spent the rest of the night in the bathroom.I also remember while waiting for the food a table next to me sent back their garlic noodles because they didnt like it and as they brought it back to the kitchen I heard someone say add shrimp to it. In the back of my head I was thinking the worst thoughts and praying that they werent planning to recycle garlic noodles that were sent back to accommodate my order of garlic shrimp noodles. But after getting home both orders looked as if they may have been recycled with their unevenly lenthed noodles that almost looked like they were spat out or left overs from previous customers. And with the way I felt last night, it wouldnt surprise me if they recylce dishes that are sent back from all their complaining customers...which seemed to be quite a few while I was there yesterday!Ive had garlic noodles at many places and this is by far the worst and I never plan to return again. Do yourself a favor if youre craving garlic noodles by going somewhere else....Hang ten boiler is by far much better and in the same neighborhood.
SAGA Kitchen
1707 Lincoln Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Im giving 5 stars to raise the avg score. This place is about 4.7 in my rating strictly speaking about the sushi. This is not the high profile Omakase places like Utzutzu in the area but quality comes pretty close, not requiring weeks in advance reservations for $100+ per person menu.Comparing quality to local places in Alameda such as Yokohama, Yojimbo, Sushi House - SAGA has chutoro, ottoro, negitoro and offers uni for topping in Kaisen Don and Omakase that the other three dont have. So definitely one scale higher than those places.Ive also noticed they ferment the sushi longer (granted it was intended) than other places. Hence the texture could be more mushy, but I enjoyed this. Some of the most innovative Omakase places Ive been to experiment with different days of fermentation and allowed for tasting to compare the texture of the same fish meat. So Ive learned to appreciate the difference in that sense.Within the same league as SAGA, there is Hashigawa in the area. They have better aesthetics on the sushi but thats pretty much it. Its 4.3 on my scale because I prefer more fermentation. I find SAGA to be more unique and the 20% off first 5 order promotion through the app gives me better bang for the buck. Like the other reviewer said, its a gem in the neighborhood for sushi lovers if they are consistant with the quality.I also saw others ordering sushi + ramen, or karaage, etc. So you get more options. Im skeptical of places doing too many things outside of their specialty, but at least the ramen and fried menu looked enticing enough. So Ill be trying that combination out next time (hopefully by then they can fix the issue with applying the promotion code on their app).Update 11/14/2021 - Been here now 3 times. Beats all competitors in Alameda in every aspect. Rice is better, fermentation is great, sauces are good and their Omakase menu was best bang for the buck Ive seen in the area. Prob now the best Sushi place in Alameda in its league.Their Tonkotsu Ramen broth was flavorful and love their packaging separating soup from the noodles and chashu. Their curry goes great with rice and Tonkatsu was thick and well fried. Will continue exoloring their dimsum menu.
